"I really loved it"

"Quite, peaceful and gorgeous surroundings"
I really loved it. As you might read on some reviews many things in there are pretty much aged and need to get fixed or replaced. But the reality was heart breaking because of not enough funding... When we went to there only older man was working and he seemed really passionate about it. He told us that pine trees in there were planted by his grandfather. Also what I noticed was there are many exotic plants in the and could sense of the passion from older generations who were . It would be good for families as another stop after or before visiting Conservation park next to it. It's roughly 20 minutes drive from Gawler area and you will encounter the beautiful nature. Tip, Do not ware nice shoes. You will find hard to avoid step on the animals' poo Plus, No reception on phones. Family pass is $15.. Animals you can see in there are koala(annabelle), kangaroos, wallabies, emus, Kakadu, gala, crow, and more birds (I don't remember...) duck and goose?, peacocks and chickens some more avariy in there...
Restrooms
There is only one bathroom and it's the one you're expecting it.
Pretty run down and shabby. The "museum" was falling in, water bowls were grubby (and we'd just had a 40 degree day so they had not been cleaned). Unfortunately its more hoarding at this stage, wish they had more money to make it what it needs to be. Couldn't tell what of the 30+ cages were empty or abandoned. And hard to tell where the paths are. They do let you in a cage with a Koala to pat though, and heaps of emus running around (owners don't do much to help so people that are scared or have small kids be prepared). Very odd experience, probably ripe for a law suit.
"Sanctuaries are naturally occurring areas that are meant to protect the endangered species from hunting, poaching and predation. Here the animals are not bred for commercial purposes. It provides a safe, healthy and secured refuge to all the wild animals"...This place is far from a sanctuary for majority of birds kept. They have no room to fly in their cages, the vegetation placed in the cages to simulate their natural environment is appalling. These birds dont need sanctuary they need freedom.
This sanctuary has been in existence since 1905 and is run by the grandson of the original owner and he seems to have dedicated his life to it. We saw Emu, Wallaby (which we fed), Kangeroo and a Koala there as well as sheep, ducks and lots of birds that owners didn't want any more. For $5 per adult it was a bargain. The road down was steep but in our automatic 2wd 7m motorhome it was absolutely fine, even after all the rain the previous night! Go visit!
Quite, peaceful and gorgeous surroundings. Much cheaper than other places. Not huge but big enough to spend a few hours. Not much parking but wasnt very busy so had no issues. Bring a packed lunch and drinks as they don't sell food or drinks here. Only issue was the toilets. They have 2 one was out of order and the other was gross. I wouldn't use it....
Great place. Loads if interaction with animals mostly friendly Emu's and Wallabies. Nice walking trails and trails. With young kids an hour was long enough to explore most of the park. $15 for a family of 4 which came with free animal food. Look forward to returning
Great place, my kids had a ball getting shown around and getting to feed the wallabies and spend time with the koala as well as a guided tour around all the different rescue birds! The workers there put so much effort in and are both lovely
Great little place, looks a bit run down but its only a small cost to enter and a cup of animal feed is included. Theres Kangaroos and Emus wandering around everywhere once you get out of the car, the Emus seem intimidating but run off when
Definitely the most bizarre experience I have had. The location is seriously in the middle of nowhere in the bush. There is limited reception. I attended here in the winter and it had been raining. The whole grounds were muddy and appeared
A very old place but really liked it. We were greated by all Emus just casually walking around. They approach you for food only. You can buy food from the volunteer staff there and feed all the animals. They had talking parrots and
You will find bigger places with more animals but this place has been open for over 100 years and for $5 an adult or $3 a child you can't go wrong. They give you pellets to feed the animals and the staff are very friendly
Awesome sanctuary, staff really nice. Good to see wallabies, cape barren geese, batongs, lots of rescue birds, wild emus and other birds wandering around. Good price and can feed animals Great solo or with family
Beautiful scenery and well-kept sanctuary. Upon arrival you are met with some curious, free-roaming emus and friendly volunteer staff who welcome you with big smiles and good energy.
Great outing for the kids .heaps of emus to greet you..fed the wallabies..patted the koala..danced with the cockies..and watched the peacock put on a display..great day..
Fun interactions with Australian wildlife in a beautiful natural setting. Staffed by friendly volunteers, and some friendly emus. Good value entry fee and animal feed.
Cash only - $5 per adult, $3 for children 5yrs and older, free for kids under 5. A cup of feed for wallaby are 50c each. (Current as at august 2022)
Looks a bit run down. It is a pity that they don't have the funding to update the enclosures. It is a lovely shady setting.
Great place to get close to nature. The people who run it are friendly and helpful. Great place for photography.
Owner was very friendly and helpful and showed us a koala! Lots of wallabies! Definitely we will go back there!
Amazing place to take the kids or even just a casual date, prefer this so much more then something mainstream.
Great place to take family , hand feed wallabies beautiful south Australian country side. $5
We had a beautiful day out there.Small but lovely place. Emus, koalas, birds, and many more.
