"This store is a scam"
Rushed and cramped environment. The cashiers only focus is speed, they ask how you wanna pay without telling you the total. All while you are bagging your own groceries, there's a new plastic bag ban in 2022. Navigating the covid barriers too. I much rather a self checkout, perhaps if they trained the staff on something other than speed it could be a better customer experience. The store is very small, if you have an accessibility needs, mobility or low vision shop elsewhere. You also have to dodge the plain clothes security, apparently it's the most stolen from store in downtown. I am used to being followed because of my race, so I am good at blocking it out. Seemingly fair priced and open later than some grocery stores. Close to transit and downtown core makes it a great place to pick up food on the way home.
- 8 Stars for the record. Oh...ok...so not only are the cashiers impolite and rude here, but they scam you? Ringing the same items twice...hmmm....nice. Matches the vibe and philosophy of the whole store. The girls you place at the front to be cashiers are sinking this store. They are rude, inconsiderate and wouldn't know customer service if it hit them in the face. Twice. I've been coming to this IGA for over a decade and it never used to be like this. They deliberately drive you away by ignoring customers, chit chatting and ripping you off at the till. Tactics. Efficient ones. Management knows. Does nothing. Well good for you. You went from a first class great Yaletown store to feces on a stick. Congratulations. Today was my last time there.

I have just been accused of stealing an item from this store this evening after I paid for the item 10 minutes before and had returned to the store to purchase another item. I am extremely disappointed and was embarrassed as the whole store was made aware and looked on as I waited for a shop assistant to check the cameras to see me purchase my previous item. After the shop assistant saw me on the camera making the purchase, I was asked to leave the store and was not offered any sort of apology nor compensation. I am a regular customer at this store and I am disgusted in the manner I was treated this evening.
This store is a scam. A lot of the items don’t have a price. And when they do, my godness the overpricing here is absolutely CRAZY. I paid $5 for 2 tomatoes the other day. $6 for 4 yoghurts. $8 for a handful of olives. I can go on and on. It’s cheaper to eat out than spend money on food in this store. It seems every other month they just bump their price. And that’s without mentioning how dirty it is inside, and the service is very bad. There is actually no service the cashiers don’t even tell you hi or bye. Do yourself a favour and don’t waste your money on these guys.
The rotisserie chicken was so dry, it was like chewing gum, I kept shaking my head while I ate it. It was like the chicken was left in the oven way too long, it was so hard to eat, I barely could eat any of it. I was sooo disappointed, I can’t even describe it. Like I’m going to throw it out, pretty much 80% of it is going in the garbage. My gosh like someone from head office go buy this and see what I’m talking about. Something has to change. Like don’t sell this stuff if it the texture is this bad, you will get the same consensus from everyone.
I usually visit this store frequently since I live nearby. However, recently, I've had to double-check my receipts every time. The cashiers frequently scan items twice or include items that I didn't purchase. This has already occurred 5 or 6 times, and while the money is eventually returned after verification or a recount, it's becoming quite frustrating. If this issue persists, I will have no choice but to contact the company's management or even involve the police. This situation has become intolerable!
For me, this store is just convenient. I am racking my brains to come up with something that makes it my go to place, but there really isn’t anything. It’s unusual for me to write about what a place ISN’T, but I’ll do just that: it’s NOT my go to place for vegetables, fruit, dairy, deli, meat, fresh baking, flowers… and the list goes on. There is nothing unique about it, and the pricing of products is not competitive. It’s just there, on the corner of Robson and Richards and it’s convenient.
I love this store. They have packed a good selection of goods in their small square footage. The produce and bakery items are all fresh. Lots of local stuff. It's a really great place for downtowners to pick up groceries in small batches. Lots of cashiers at all times. I'm there every day. And, thanks for stocking the 'Little Purely Purples' from the Little Potato Company! I think my request was answered! That's what's great about dealing with an independent owner.
I've gone to this branch of IGA a few times. The first time I went (to buy a redbull), I thought their prices were far too high (compared to places like Costco). However, when I went back for my second trip (to buy cake mix), I found their prices weren't unreasonable across their wide selection. The place is clean, and the staff has smiles on their faces (especially at night.) If you need a 1-off basic item like eggs, cake mix, flour, this is a decent place to go.
Very small grocery store with security staff who don't know what discreet means. Selection isn't available and pricing is sky high! Homogenized milk is $7.99 for regular Dairyland 4 litres!!! It's only $5.99 @ Safeway for the identical item. Also my fave yogurt costs $6.50 here and @ Safeway it's $4.89. Everything that was on my list cost $1-3 more than any other grocery store in the city.
I had the pleasure of visiting this IGA on our weekend getaway and it was an amazing experience! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the selection of products was outstanding - there was something for everyone. The prices were very reasonable, and the quality was top-notch. I highly recommend visiting this store if you're in the area - you won't be disappointed!
Nice grocery store in Downtown Vancouver -- their deli, bakery and produce selections are outstanding. It looks like they've been doing the "buy local, eat local" thing since way before it got hip. They don't have a crazy amount of pre-packaged stuff, so you may want to hit Giant Ego for your Combos and microwave burrito needs.
It used to be affordable and friendly staff, now it is very expensive with 100% cheaper foreign workers (mostly Indians on student visas) who just don't care. There is a good Korean grocer on Cambie and Smythe that is far better especially produce. IGA Robson has a serious weird vibe now, the Burrard store is far better.
Repeatedly stopped by during an 11-day trip here for fresh fruits and vegetables and dry goods. They also had a meat and cheese counter and a small deli. The entire store is small, but they still seem to have some of everything. Not sure how to compare prices, as I was from out-of-country and had no comparison.
I find it very insulting that a child, working the counter has the audacity to ask an adult, twice her age for ID when she's clearly not old enough to sell me the cigarettes. At least I know which store not to use again. Give one person a little authority and it goes right to their head. Will not be back
It is a classic Downtown grocery store: it is small and expensive but has what you need for an emergency. They have a good produce area, a deli area with lots of cheese, a mini bakery, some ready to go sandwiches and mini meals, ... pretty much everything you need.
This is my regular IGA, I had issues with someone years ago... but tonight... the staff was fantastic! I had a big order and went past the closing and they were gracious enough to still serve me willingly with a smile. Thanks for the great service guys!
Nice place with tons of things for your palate. Not a HUGE variety, unless you like cheese, of which they have tons. Was super glad to find this oasis around the corner from the hotel. Fair prices, efficient lines, even after work. Had every we needed.
No one speaks English, several times had to put back an item because of the miss pricing or a fine small print basically everything is miss labeled, wrong pricing. Double check your receipt. Unfortunately there isn’t an option for zero stars.
Pricey, but convenient, fresh veggies and fruits, far from public transportation, especially if you are loaded. Half year update: not using any more as it's really located not well. Just sometimes on weekends to enjoy shopping in good place.
Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Very inconsistent place. Some staff are toxic, some staff are extremely nice. The chinese butcher at the back is toxic, miserable and hates his life and feels the need to take it out on the customers. Sad life
What is going on? The small portion of bristo meal combo $10 ?!!! There is no price per lb or grams (weight ), this is a marketing technique! On top of that, The chicken was too dry and veggies was over cooked! Absolutely Don’t recommend.
They've packed as much into this space as they can, and in some areas it's hard to move around if there are a few people shopping, but overall, it's a good shopping experience. If you buy sale items, it's pretty decent.
Staff has a really bad attitude. They're always annoyed with something. With everything being overpriced, unsure if the staff is underpaid or generally unhappy. Wouldn't come back here unless my life was on the line.
Very small & regular prices tend to be a little higher than some other grocery stores BUT very handy location, friendly staff, does have some good sales, usually has some nice fruit, and has a good deli selection.
Everything has jacked up prices. If something costs $5 at your local grocery store than it would be $9 here for the exact same item. Ridiculous pricing here. But the fresh produce is nice with a good selection.
Couldnt find anything for babies (no diapers, no baby food). The employee I asked sent me to aisle 3, there you can find toilet paper and pet food but nothing for little humans.
Attention!!! Be vigilant, cashiers punch a non-existent product into the check (which you did not take, in my case, ibuprofen for $ 12). I don't believe it was a mistake!
Very good selection of products with excellent quality, prices are high, but this is on the very center of Vancouver so that might have something to do with it.
This is a great little corner spot. Prices are quite reasonable and the staff is always friendly. The only slight downfall is that they don't sell alcohol.
store a little disorganized and with very narrow aisles, only one passes at a time, but with a wide variety of products. IGA North Van is Better.
Went here looking for water and snacks and found them. Aisles are a little narrow and some prices are high but beggars can’t be choosers.
Not a great variety, some things I wanted, they didnt have. Prices are high. Bring your money as it's pretty expensive there.
this place is price gouging everyone. they have basic products here marked up 5 dollars more than other grocers. terrible. .
Make sure to keep your receipt when buying from there. A lot of their products are already spoiled.
Always check your receipt and make sure you get the right price on discounted items!
Great grocery, selection, and better prices than convenience stores.
