We ordered 4 lamb bunny chows, separate from the bread so that it does not get soggy, and a butter chicken curry. Wow, this has to be the worst food I have ever tasted. The bunny chow was just water, with no sauce. Seems like they tried to use Knorr stock cubes to thicken their sauce. The butter chicken curry looked like baby food and it actually split, giving the food a sour taste. My 10 year old also asked why this sour butter chicken had no curry in. Seems you need to ask for curry in your butter chicken curry. When we returned to the shop to raise our concern about the food quality in a friendly manner, we were met by the owner, attacking us from the onset. First, it was our fault that the food was watery because we ordered it separated from the bread. Just imaging how soggy the bread would have been if they put that watery mess inside? Seems like the curry hasn't recovered from the floods in April. The owners response to the butter chicken curry is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, as she just made it now. Doesn't matter when it was made, it would still taste horrible. Just the manner in which she shouted at us because we returned the food shows how important customers are in her life. I'm sure the owner will respond to this review in her condescending manner that she always do, telling me to go get a covid test or that I am not Indian so I don't know anything about Indian food. (Refer to past Google reviews on how reviewers were attacked) How this establishment is still open boggles my mind as you can see from the many many bad reviews that no customer will ever return to this restaurant. If the owner's attitude was more of a "sorry, how can we fix this" and not a " you don't know what you are talking about and nothing is ever wrong with my food", they might have a chance. Bless the people that needs to endure this lady's cooking and customer service skills in future.

Such an awful experience. Thought we would try this place out for a bunny. From the moment we walked in, until we left without eating, the owners were rude. I can only attribute this to the fact that we had audacity to ask them to cut our bunny in half so that we could share it. We are not big eaters. We asked for knives and forks and the lady proceeded to tell us to eat like indians and almost started insulting us. During this conversation, my boyfriend said, I want to eat like a Kuli. I reprimanded him and said that he was being rude. Lo and behold, he said but here is the sign explaining the word and the lady actually sat there and said, we are proud to called that. After selecting some Coke to drink, this is all that is on offer, we requested some glasses. We were told that there are no glasses. I was like seriously. Anyway, glasses arrived along with our requested Bunny and amazement in our eyes when we were afforded the luxury of cutlery. We then requested a knife and an extra plate. She stood there and proceeded to ask, "would you like to come to the kitchen and make the food yourself?" My boyfriend lost it and told her where to fly. We got and walked out. Such disgusting service and all of this in front of other patrons. Will never be back

Love the butter chicken curry ill rate it completely a 4 star (won't visit again though) i am giving a 2 star rating for the whole experience on the location due to no masks by any of the employees or owner being worn, regardless of social distancing, there are rules and rules are put in place for protection. disappointing and quite worrying, it would be much to my concern that it is us customers that are in danger of the virus being around thoes who dont wear masks. (needless to say i had already placed my order and paid before taking note of the fact there were no masks worn, i made sure on my side to do the best i could.. This was to sanitize my order packaging and heat my food a good time before consuming)

Worst experience ever at Indian Origin Restaurant. The old lady at the counter is the rudest person I've encountered especially as the face of the company. The breyani was R75 for a handful of food and the bunny was thrown together. When we took it back she insulted us as well as my 2 year old son. I have never received such disgusting service from any business before. Not only was she rude to us but she mistreats her staff. When she eventually gave us back our money for the food that we refused to pay for we realised that Precious mistakenly overcharged us on our credit card. When we asked for the rest of our money back, she did not give it to us. Precious took money out of her purse to give to us

We were staying close by and saw that this restaurant had good reviews on Google Maps. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious. We ordered the lamb briyanni, channa masala, coffee masala and lassi and all was delicious and the portions generous. The service was very friendly, informative about the food ingredients and kind. The food is made fresh, so it takes a while but the wait is so worth it. You can sit on their balcony and see the Indian ocean as you relax in your eating experience. In the menu you will see that you're getting a great value for the money and while you wait, you'll be entertained reading the small stories printed on it about the Indian immigration to South Africa.

Very rude staff. Not suitable for children they are extremely rude. I was horrified by how they treated my son for just being a child. It was our first trying indian food at this restaurant. The staff kept coming to our table suurprisingly they didnt bother telling us indian etiquette and hence we didnt even know wether they were serving bowls or not. As for shouting at a 1 year old who climbed on a chair thats unforgivable. Its the reason why many child friendly restaurants have play areas because kids will always be kids. No one was eating from the tables. Note we didnt enjoy the food but only ate because we paid for it. Wish we could throw it up.

Fisrtly Thank you for your response, your words have just described to all your customers and the all google users how unethical you are as a business person. It is sad but true because if you must know i was extremely offended about the entertainment that you have proposed. If you indulge in those things ,please dont assume everyone is like you. P. S. I did buy my family a better meal from steers and for your curiosity , you can find your meal in the trash can at steers. (PLEASE dont judge people in the future if you dont know them or for how many people they buy for.) Good luck in the future with your business attitude.

Wow, what can my husband and I say but wow!! Sadly though we only discovered this little big gem on our last day of holiday, if we had known we would have been there everyday!! The food was totally amazing and scrumptious! The service perfect and the staff so humble and friendly!! Thank you Priya to you and your lovely Mom and friendly staff! We really had a lovely time, the wait was worth it and we’ll definitely recommend it to others and be back when we come again!! I even finished my plate which never happens !!

Well, it seems that they cook curry only after you order it but they don't tell you that beforehand. Result is you end up waiting for 2 bunny chows for about one hour on a weekday night. This is the second time this happens to us - last time same thing happened with plain Chicken and beef curry. On top of that they had us pack the leftovers ourselves - they don't go that low at Steers right downstairs. The restaurant environment is pretty bleak as well.; NOT the place to be for an enjoyable dinner experience.

This was our very first visit to Amanzimtoti, and looking for a hearty homely meal, which was unfortunate that we found this restaurant. The service is poor with very little knowledge on costumer service. We drove to the restaurant to fetch our order only to find out that the order was sold to another individual. My husband was told that the order would not be replaced and refused to service us. Really sad, as Toti is a beautiful place, and poor service like this is sad. Will never recommend this place.

While camping on the south coast, we were on our way to drive up north for some bunny chows when we discovered Indian Origin. They far surpassed our expectations with three different, but equally amazing bunnies (bean, mutton and beef)! Our three year old asked for pancakes with nothing. She was taken into the kitchen to see how her roti was made. We returned two days later for biryani. All so good! The food is spicy, but not too hot. Extra burn is added with the super spicy relish on the side.

  • Margret Mpofu

3 days later..i am still traumatized by how 1 of the staff shouted at my son. if you have 'active' kids i suggest you opt for restaurants with kids play areas. tjooo i can still hear echos.pity that experience ruined my evening.i cant give a rating of the food as it was my first time trying indian..only ate coz i was hungry and too tired to look around..1 thing though, it was quite spicy for my liking but i think that might be delicious by the dish standards.will not be returning.

Food is tasty and affordable. You need to get there early as the menu of the day gets finished quickly. The owner is friendly and happy to help. You can buy take away and also sit in and have your meal. The reason I'm giving a lower than 5 rating is because I felt the food was mild and that the place for a sit in and eat, was small and could have been better laid out. If you buying a take out my rating would go up to a 4. Some lovely pictures on the wall too.

Found this restaurant on our way to Port Edward. Though we noted in previous reviews about the staff being rude but thought of taking a chance. To our surprise, they were not only rude but insulting. While the food was tolerable, it was the interaction that spoilt the experience. This was my only unpleasant experience at an Indian restaurant. Frankly, I don’t think they care.

I eat to enjoy, not to live. The living part is an extra that comes with enjoying what I eat. And what I ate from this restaurant ( mutton bunny, beef bunny and chicken burgers for the kids) is definitely enjoyable. I enjoyed the food so much I had to phone back and complement the chef. I would recommend Eve's food and hospitality to any person local or visiting our our little gem of a town, Winklespruit.

  • Thomas de la Port

Was looking for a place to have some Curry. My wife and I are prone to only visit restaurants with facilities for the children. I phoned to confirm whether they were open and was pleasantly surprised with the friendly service we recieved from phoning to even being greeted upon our arrival. Excellent food, great prices and super friendly staff. Even our kids aged 9, 2 and 1 enjoyed. Well worth a visit.

  • Pierre Rossouw

The shop is quite small and unassuming, which makes it such a gem. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The prices are very good and the portions were more than adequate. I had a bunny and it was ok, not really amazing but the portion size made up for it

I wish i remembered to take photos of our Mutton Bunny Chows... However the beautiful Smell of Curry overwhelmed my appetite and i devoured that bunny chow with passion you only find in movies. Ive had many Bunny Chows in my life but this this was the BEST Ive ever had. Owners are awesome and friendly and you can taste the passion and love this Indian family adds to their food

  • Claire Fauchet

Amazing homely and welcoming service from Eve. She gave us honest recommendations for her food and opened us up to new ingredients used in her dishes. The food was absolutely divine. We had vegetable thali, prawn curry and a bunny chow - all equally yum! I left my handbag there and Eve took care of it whilst I arranged a courier to collect it. Will definitely go back again.

  • Antionette Ferreira

Best Chicken Bryani ever!! Friendly and quick Service. Value for money. Authentic Indian dishes. My companion had the Beef Curry and Rice which was super tender and top quality beef. Priya, advised on a lovely Indian dish for my little one, which she loved! Please don't take this little shop at face value. It's a true Gem.

The chicken breyani was not spicy. It lacked the authentic taste of breyani. Did not look appealing. The Taste is not for the Indian palette. The dhall and the soji was delicious. The mutton bunny was average. The gravy was too little. The sambles was salty. Would recommend taking a 10min drive to Galeria for an authentic Indian meal at the Oriental restaurant.

  • Carissa Snyman

Ordered the lamb breyani. It was delicious. The sambals were awesome and soji was divine. Sorry didn’t take any pics as the food was so lovely we may have eaten too quick Big portions for takeaway and even without any meat the breyani will still taste awesome with all the veggies in it. Loved it will definitely order again when I’m back in the area.

  • Melané Fahner-Botha

For sheer entertainment value and amazing food this place is an adventure to be enjoyed! Bring your own booze and a bit of patience because Eve's mother is in the kitchen making beautiful fresh food. It's not a beautiful place but it's restful and surprisingly homey despite the echoing dining hall. This place can become one of the jewels of the South Coast.

  • Shivam Sharma

Had a wonderful experience eating here during our scuba trip to Umkomhas. The food was very good, got served Soji(halwa) complimentary and it was one of the best I've ever eaten. The owner/chef was courteous and chatted to us as well about food, experiences in India, etc. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone looking for Indian food in the area.

  • Lisa Govender

I was in the Winkelspruit area and decided to try this place out. I ordered a mutton bunny and lamb breyani. The mutton bunny was average but the lamb breyani was terrible. It had no flavour or spices and the rice was mushy. It looked like plain rice mixed with vegetables and meat. I didn't even end up eating it.I will never go back. Waste of money.

  • Coenie Smit

I loved the lamb curry. Its more saucy than what I usually get elsewhere and that does a great job of mixing with the rice and makes for an excellent meal. I especially enjoy spicy foods and they did not disappoint. The staff/owners are a bit different to the usual and this place is worth a visit if just for that alone. Very friendly and helpful.

  • Stefan Meyer

I stopped on a whim and found this to be a very pleasant surprise. The people were friendly and the food was excellent. More than just the typical restaurant curry, to me it seemed satisfying as only a home cooked meal can be. The view from the balcony can also make for a great experience. Take out or sit down meals are well worth stopping for.

  • Russell Meyer

Simple decor, amazing food. This place is not to be missed if you are looking for great curry. From the samoosas and chilli bites, as starters, to the beef or lamb curry and Bunny Chow (boneless lamb) as mains, all really hit the spot. With Eve as our gracious hostess, we really enjoyed our evening with a taste of Indian Origin.

  • xoliswa sibiya

I bought a bean curry and I got soup!!! The nerve when I called to complained to be told to just bring it back and bring back the roti as well. One less customer!!! You seriously need to register for customer service 101. Then least you could do is apologies instead you are rude. Take leasons from Oriantals; the Rajs etc!

  • Shaun Calla360

First time eating here and absolutely loved. Apart from the fact that the owners were hosting a curry evening for the LOCAL Amanzimtoti SPCA, which is why we will support again, but also for the fact that their curry selection was absolutely divine. Will definately pull in here to support again. Really caring owners.

  • Default333

Best curry i have ever had. Keep it up. I'll be back for lots more. The curry, no matter which one you choose, melts in your mouth with flavor. Excellent hospitality and at a good price. Perfect for the cold and rainy days when no one wants to cook without making a dent in your budget. I recommend this place to all.

This was the worst bunny and service that i have ever had, there is only one flavour and that is hot with bits of meat. It was the festive season and the restuarant was empty, now i know why. The owner/staff are rude and uprupt. Im dissapointes as bunny is the one thing to have in durban, dont have it here

Bought Lamb breyani and curry on Friday, curry was just water , breyani had no taste at all, not even a single person at home said it was nice. They need to be taught how to cook Indian food, they really have no clue. It's horrible …

  • Connor Roberts

Walked up on this place when vacationing in South Africa/Durban. Was really impressed with the butter chicken and the lamb curry my friend got. If I ever make it back to this part of the world I will make time to go here and order again.

  • Le-Anka Duyvestyn

Unhappy client. First they charged me more than I should actually have been paying for. Only realized that when I came home. My mom's whole toasted sandwich was burned!! Bunny chow don't have a very good taste. Would not recommend.

Besides the delicious food, the service is outstanding. I love the fact that the owner speaks fluent afrikaans as well as English. We are always made to feel welcome. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty and well presented.

We loved our evening there. Lovely host. Remember to bring your own wine. We loved comparing the South African Indian style with Continental style indian food. We loved the authentic experience and seeing the passion of our host.

I’ve been to so many restaurants these passed to months in South Africa, but I had by far the best meal at Indian Origin. The food was fantastic. The vibe was great. 10/10 would recomend if you’re ever in KZN!

Friendly service.....good food. Purchased a bunny.....but slightly disappointing to note, the curry in the bunny was heavily watered down....the bread was actually wet. Nevertheless not a bad place to eat.
