So disappointed. Been a Hoosier all my life. My husband and I are now retired. We are returning home after a two week trip to Whidbey Island near Seattle. So much fun. Had a sleeper car. The Amtrak staff were absolutely great. However--all the train depots were clean and had lots of interesting info. Except at Indy!! How embarrassing. I can't understand why a city of thus caliber could have such a rundown eye sore. I hate to think what the people on this train headed to New York will think when we stop at our Union station. The staff on this ride are boarder line compared to what we have had on this trip. I give Amtrak a 4.5. The crew on this Connecting train seem really stressed. I gave yet to see smile or friendly gesture. There are more and more people riding the rails. Please make our train station one of the best. Maybe we can get more trains here. Lots of people would travel by rail for the conventions, sporting events, etc. that we are known for. Get busy, Indy. Make rail travel to and from Indy one of the sell-outs!!
A quaint little urban bus station that is reminiscing of 1930’s design. The food court is stocked with exquisite fare ranging from days old pizza and breadsticks to an all time fav of nachos with cheese. Being the uber-conservative state that Indiana is, jalapeño peppers not available. For those of you on a sodium restricted diet, the pretzels are served sans salt. This station is centrally located to all major attractions, including Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL Indianapolis Colts. The Colts incessantly are celebrating their 35 year in town. Just a tad bit longer than the date that the Cleveland Browns high tailed it to Baltimore. If the bus station fare doesn’t meet your needs there is the American classic White Castle. Don’t fill up on too many though, as one must remember that you are riding a bus. I give this stop three thumbs up?
Thanks to you guys I figured out that the Amtrak Station IS the greyhound Station... (it's upstairs). Concience told me to go find it the night before, the people pointed me to the Old Union Station, and the people over there pointed me to Beech Grove (I know, really?) ... so WARNING!!! AMTRAK STATION IS THE GREYHOUND STATION IN DOWNTOWN INDY!! DO NOT GO TO BEECH GROVE!!! it's helpfull if you arrive about 30 minutes early (possibily earlier). It was a cool experience, but don't count on the Amtrak taking you to your destination at a prompt time. Allow like a 2 - 3 hour window. (Because you might have alot of stopping time).
After reading such low reviews I thought the experience would be bad. It wasn't at all. Union station has upgraded it's chairs. Staff was kind and complimentary. Passengers helped each other (especially people with children & elders). A bunch of Mennonite and city folk were together in my train car. A prior train derailed so our train took us half way and put us on a coach bus the rest of the way. I think grumpy and easily disgruntled people will find a reason to be in a bad mood and people who travel with appreciation & grace will have a pleasent time. :)

I was trying to travel from Muncie to Chicago. my driver made unnecessarily long stops and we got to this station 2 minutes before my layover left. the driver never gave my ticket back so i was delayed even more and missed the layover. I had to wait three hours for the next bus. Very inconvenient, the place doesn't feel safe and I missed out on being with my family. Never using them again.
I went into the terminal on Christmas Eve to get some information for my grand kids to travel to Chicago. Becky was working that morning she was very helpful and so very nice. She made sure I had everything I needed before I left for my family to have a safe and fun trip on Amtrak. We are looking forward to our trip and to seeing her again. Becky was so sweet and caring. Thank You! April
I’ve never taken the Amtrak before. I usually take Megabus, which is always a horrible experience. I thought I would change it up and try the train. It’s an additional 2 hours but it gives me a lot of work time, not to mention how spacious the cars are. The restrooms are CLEAN and they serve food and booze. For the same price as megabus.....I’d take the Amtrak train ANYDAY
This was the worst trip of my life. Yes, employees are rude and don't care. While you may be riding coach, it doesn't mean you have to be treated so rudely. Extreme prices on food and drinks , REALLY. Who charges such exuberant prices for vending machine food. I agree whole heartedly , do your best to avoid this kind of abuse while traveling.
the petty complaints were very entertaining. Station is old, but in pics, it looked clean, not one piece of litter, they work with what they have. I like the one stopped 5 times for no reason. A train stops, there is a reason, probably sharing the track with freight, freight company owns the track, freight gets priority.
Without a shred of doubt, one of the dirtiest stations ever. It's so grimy that you would think twice about waiting here to catch a train/bus. It doesn't help that some of the passengers inside the station tend to be far from the cream of the crop. A place best avoided, or at best a long hot bath thereafter.
Stranded in the middle of Kentucky with no driver. Only to get to this terminal with no air conditioning and still waiting to see what they'll be doing even though we are late we have been siting here for onother 45 minutes. The station is just dirty! Employees are rude... The bathrooms are just nasty.
Amtrak is inside greyhound station turnaround. Difficult to find way to entrance and into building. There are limited services inside. Door handles and entrance doors are broken. Restrooms are functional but not clean. Beautiful union Station waiting area near by but locked up and used as a bar.
Traveled round trip Indy to Chicago, and back the next day. Trip was long, with multiple stops along the way, but the staff was wonderful and accommodating. I had a great time, and will be making this same trip once more before the Hoosier State train shuts down this summer.
Terrible. We waited over 3 hours for our ride just to find out they have no bus drivers. There was no clarity on whether we were on a bus or a train. Nobody knew what was going on and nobody communicated updates until we asked them. Do not travel with this company.
This station is a civic embarrassment to the city of Indianapolis. Depressing, unclean, and desperately needs a renovation. This is the first thing many people see when they enter the city for the first time (if they are coming in by bus or train), not ideal.
Very very veryyyy unprofessiinal service. The bus gets delaied for 4 hours. And there is no body who can answer any Questions, no body takes responsiblity it is like a nightmare waiting out there and u dont know what to do or whom to talk about the situation.
I was travelling from Indianapolis to Cincinnati by the way. Firstly the train station is dirty, it don’t look safe. I didn’t see no security or staff. Also lots of homeless dudes sleeping on the floor or asking for money. IT DON’T LOOK SAFE.
This place was horribly managed. We paid to take a train and when we got there they told us we were riding a bus. But multiple other workers including the amtrak line told us it was a train. None of the workers were fully aware of what was
It would be nice if it was upgraded and didn't look dark and dingy. This is supposed to be a major American city the station should reflect that. It would be nice if the trip between Chicago and Indianapolis was less than 5 hours.
Amtrak ticket windows always closed, the train station lounge upstairs never available, and I was forced to spend an extra $100 for a bus ticket to catch a train somewhere else instead in Indianapolis where I was scheduled
Need to be updated the bathroom are so outdated and need to be clean often. Half of the doors doesn't lock and there was no soap ,floors dirty its just Nasty you have to either hold it or go to white castle
The place is okay. The men's bathroom on the other hand is disgusting and needs fixed. Floors are stickey and there is no mirrors and the one stall doesn't even lock. Needs to be addressed immediately
I take the train all the time from Indianapolis to Dyer and it’s always a great experience. The workers are really friendly despite the fact that it’s 6 AM. It’s one of my favorite ways to travel.
Disgusting and outdated. Not only are the facilities falling apart they are dirty. There is a constant buzzing from the lighting that could drive a person mad. Avoid this station.
Amtrak itself is pleasant l, however the Amtrak station in Indy is nasty! It’s an unsafe neighborhood, the facility is small and nasty! They need to upgrade!
I was surprised how clean the station is, especially the restroom. Typically these restrooms are nasty dirty, as are bus stations.
Difficult place. Difficult to get to, to park at even briefly, the men's restroom is horrible! I wouldn't recommend!
Amtrak is very misleading, didn’t know I had to board a bus instead of a train. The station is also very dirty
The train to Chicago stopped 5 times for no reason and just sat there. It made the trip an hour longer.
The men's restroom, on the other hand, is dirty and in in need of repair. The station is very dirty.
Great city. I didn't realize Indianapolis was such a big city. And there's so much to see and do.
Two hours dealy cuz of a lazy driver.. and i won't even talk about how dirty the station is.
Do literally anything you can to avoid taking Amtrak. Worst travel experience of my life.
Trains were extremely late but janitor's were making place extremely clean & sanitized.
Most delays caused by laziness of drivers. Most workers are rude and uninterested
Horrible customer service. The worst greyhound/ Amtrak facility I ever been in ..
I was thinking about getting on a train to move out of town
Mess smh
