Once here was a Jewish retirement home, which had been built after the closure of the old Jewish cemetery in 1844. In 1942 inside the National Socialists collected Jewish people who had been captured for transportation to Auschwitz and Theresienstadt. In 1943, the old people's home was destroyed. The cemetery was destroyed in 1943 by the Gestapo. The remains of the Jews who had been buried there a hundred years before were removed. In the last days of the the Second World War dead civilians and soldiers were buried in mass graves in the cemetery. There is a plaque on one of the walls which reminds the visitors. Apart from the memorial in front of the cemetery some remained tombstones and the tomb of Moses Mendelsohn there is not much to see. Nevertheless, this place is a place of silent remembrance. Hier stand früher das jüdische Altersheim, das nach der Schließung des Friedhofs 1844 errichtet wurde. In ihm wurden von den Nationalsozialisten ab 1942 die zum Abtransport nach Auschwitz und Theresienstadt festgenommenen jüdischen Menschen gesammelt. 1943 wurde das Altersheim zerstört. Der Friedhof wurde 1943 von der Gestapo zerstört. Die sterblichen Überreste der dort 100 Jahre zuvor beigesetzten Juden wurden beseitigt. In den letzten Kriegstagen wurden auf dem Friedhof Kriegstote in Massengräbern verscharrt. Daran erinnert ein Gedenkstein an einer der Mauern. Abgesehen von dem Mahnmal vor dem Friedhof, einigen geretteten Grabsteinen und der Grabstätte von Moses Mendelsohn ist nicht viel zu sehen. Dennoch ist dieser Ort ein Ort der stillen Gedenkens.

Ein sehr bedrückender Ort. Still, traurig, erschreckend. Wer viel zu sehen hofft, wird hier wohl enttäuscht. Trotzdem sprechen die Gräber, die Fragmente der Gräber, die Schrifttafeln. Bleibt stehen, schweigt und lauscht. Für die männlichen Besucher. Bitte achtet den Hinweis am Eingang dieser Gedenkstätte. Bedeckt euer Haupt, achtet den jüdischen Glauben und verunglimpft die Grabstätten nicht und legt, wenn es euch behagt, einen Stein auf ein jedes der Grabstätten. Allemal ist es schrecklich und bedenklich, dass mehr und mehr die jüdischen Bereiche, wie Synagogen und Schulen bewacht werden müssen. Was für ein Leben in Deutschland hinter dicken Metallzäunen. Wir haben den Holocaust überstanden und jetzt? Man hat das Gefühl, das ganze Schreckliche nimmt erneut einen Anlauf!

Paseando por el barrio judío, nos dirigimos a ver el antiguo cementerio situado en la calle Große Hamburger Straße, pero por desgracia llegamos tarde a la hora de la visita. No obstante, casi adosado a una de las rejas del recinto, nos encontramos con un grupo escultórico bastante digno de observar, obra de los escultores Will y Mark Lammert en conmemoración a los 52.000 judíos deportados de Berlín, plasmando en sus caras todo el horror sufrido. Es una costumbre que cada visitante deposite una pequeña piedra en el conjunto. Una recomendable visita.

Another “must” to reflect on the inhumanity of man – look and weep. The Museum is under the stones - easy to miss. Unfortunately, I had to give the museum only 4 starts because we found that it was not family friendly. If you have young children, save it for another time. Our daughter was 8 at the time of our visit and we had to take it in turns trying to look after her away from the exhibit. We choose the book shop as the most appropriate location, however, we were glared at by the very unfriendly and frost shop lady and soon made a hasty exit.

È un luogo meraviglioso, di pace e memoria, un tempo sito del più antico cimitero ebraico della capitale, fatta eccezione per un suo prodromo a Spandau. A parte le antichissime lapidi a parete, sul muro di recinto meridionale, è distinguibile solo la lapide singola di Moses Mendelssohn, padre dell'Haskalah, il cosiddetto "Illuminismo ebraico" più volte rimossa, vandalizzata e adesso in situ dagli anni Novanta. Il resto del sito è ricoperto di edera e altre piante rampicanti che nascondono secoli di sepolture.

Il cimitero ormai non ospita più nessuna lapide, tranne una; divenuto fossa comune durante la seconda guerra dei tanti soldati tedeschi, ora trasformato in parco ....e di parco proprio non ne ha l'aspetto. Il lato inquietante di qst ex cimitero e di parco trasandato, sono le statue appena fuori di qst sito, ....aprono l'ingresso con aria di tragedia e nelle loro espressioni si percepisce il respiro della morte.

An old destroyed jewish graveyard. At first sight it just looks like a green field but that's kind of part of it's history as the graveyard got destroyed. when you walk through you will see some old gravestones. Really peaceful inside, but as next to it is a jewish school, many school kids sit around normally during day times and it can easily get quite noisy.

Site of an old Jewish cemetery that is now a mass grave. The one reconstructed grave is of Moses Mendelssohn. The entire area is well maintained, covered with ivy, with quiet walking paths. The statues by the front are very thought provoking, and you will see where the pebbles by the front gate are replaced on a daily basis.

O Cemitério Judaico de Berlim-Mitte é o segundo mais antigo local de enterramento da comunidade judaica de Berlim e data do ano de 1672. No exterior, junto ao portão de entrada, está colocada uma impressionante escultura da autoria de Will Lammert que recorda as vítimas judaicas do Fascimo executada no ano de 1957.

The oldest Jewish cemetery in the city of Berlin (not taking into account the Jewish Cemetery in Spandau, which no longer exists). The philosopher Moses Mendelssohn was berried here. The cemetery was destroyed by the Gestapo. Only few gravestones survived and Mendelssohn's grave has been reconstructed.

Es un espacio que conmemora la memoria de los judíos; el cementerio original fue profanado por los nazis, actualmente apenas quedan dos lápidas. También hay una escultura que muestra el horror que sufrió la población judía de Berlín y un mural de la paz.

Bonito lugar que recuerda el lugar donde se encontraba el cementerio judío que fue destruido por el odio del nazismo. Están expuestas algunas de las lápidas que sobrevivieron a la destrucción. Ubicado en el barrio judío.

È letteralmente un parco, anche piccolo, non un cimitero. Le uniche lapidi che ci sono sono quelle in foto più un'altra, stop. Si visita letteralmente in tre minuti, ma sono tre minuti sprecati. Meglio non visitarlo.

Ein Ort der Besinnung. Nie wieder Krieg! Nie wieder Faschismus! Eine Mahnung an uns alle! Erschreckend für mich, dass jüdische Einrichtungen heute unter Polizeischutz stehen müssen. Wehren den Anfängen!

Recht unscheinbar und überwachsen, weil aber auch leider nicht mehr viel übrig ist. Trotzdem ein Ort jüdischen Lebens in Berlin, der schon für das Grab Mendelssohns den Besuch lohnt.

Der Ort bedrückt, es ist nicht viel vom Friedhof übriggeblieben- einige Grabplatten und das Grab Moses Mendelsohns. Trotzdem sehr eindrücklich.

Sich ein wenig Zeit nehmen, in stille Gedenke in sich gehen, über der immense Schaden das irregeleitete Menschen einrichten können nachdenken.
