Please read if you need to visit the assessor! I had to go down here to get a waiver of non assessment to get my car registered in MO. There are several offices in the courthouse, but by far the busiest and most congested is the Personal Property Tax Assessor’s. Parking to public available around the courthouse was not obvious and signage was unhelpful. Street was full. It took me thirty minutes to find anything. I ended up parking a seven minute walk away so that I would be certain I was parked in a lot that was marked Public Parking and would not tow me. I arrived midday on a Monday. I checked in online and was notified that I was 86th in line. The system gives you no indication of estimated wait time other than that. So I waited in line for thirty minutes to see the receptionist to find out wait time. I was told the assessor was no longer taking people for the day. When I pointed out that I had checked in, she took my information and told me to have a seat and that the wait was 5 hours. (I got texts telling me how many people were in front of me, but that was it.) I did overhear her telling another person to return at 8 am when they open and there would be a very short wait. There’s no information on the website about where to park, wait time, or any even information regarding when peak wait times might be. It would be nice to know that at a certain capacity, they will turn you away for the rest of the day. This is known info that could be shared with the public. I wish I knew of an easier way, possibly the office in Independence would be better, but there’s really no way to know. I hope this helps someone! In short, show up early at 7:30. You can probably park close by on the street easily this way. Check in right away on the website too. Jackson County, we have an issue that needs fixing!
These people do not care. I literally work for the federal government and have had momment when people call my office or cell phone when Im off work and helped them anyway. These people....I mean all of them that work on the 3rd floor, make right and go straight area walked right passed me and didn't even asked what I needed help with... this was at 5:00 pm, yes I know they are close but i was there and Noone was willing to help me...all I needed was to get my certified copy of my marriage license.... they lucky that I might have been at the wrong place anyway.... all those human Beings are effing horrible people.... I hope they fired half of them due to government or state reduction....
IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE 5 STARS I WOULD! I had damage extensive to my vehicle on 2 separate occasions due to a massive pothole and negligence to take care of their road. Both claims were denied due to “not knowing the potholes where there”. I find this interesting considering the 1st claim was filed a month before the 2nd one so they had clearly been a concern about the road they ignored. Why is it that i have to have my vehicle inspected to drive on the roads but the roads can be neglected and cause damage to my vehicle and the county gets to use “ignorant” excuses as to why they wont pay for any damage! Very poorly handled by the county and cleary does not care about their residence.
I ubered a very wonderful person to work here. I discovered she was an attorney of note who agreed to work for the prosecutor's office in a department dedicated soley to looking in to false convictions--to actually search them out and rectify the wrong .This gave me great joy knowing the city/state/county (?) would find resources to prioritize such a department. My cynicism with the system was readjusted that morning. A model for judicial jurisdiction every where. The person involved as the head of this Dept installed in me great confidence for without doubt she was qualified, diligent and passionate about that cause.
Had an interaction with a rude administrative assistance. LaToya is just rude. How does she even have a job there? Very condescending and unprofessional. After 7 hours of waiting she acted as if I was an inconvenience to her day. It's your job sweetheart. What is the point of asking if it's a person first time registering a car in Missouri, if the computer show this information already? Waste of time. I spoke with here supervisor and the receptionist who got the supervisor for me. They were both very nice. The cashier was also very nice.
Rude and Unprofessional! I waited 32 minutes for someone to answer the call. When the representative answered, it took her 2 minutes to decide I wasn't listening to her and put me on hold for 5 minutes.. The rest of the conversation was fruitless and degrading. Her interaction was as if she was dealing with a child. Very unprofessional, lacked compassion and absolutely not interested in doing her job. Conveniently there was no supervisors available to talk to me. The residents of Jackson County deserve better.
There was no direct rude attitude towards me but it would be a bit pleasant to have direction on where the employee is going when your sitting in the chair at a station after having to wait almost three hours in line from 11 am to 2 pm. How depressing. Though I know going to courthouses aren’t a joy..it was hot, musty, and just a very grey mood setting.
One whole side of elevators were broken so 20 people were tightly squeezing into each lift. I took the stairs after my appointment but they didn't go directly down. It was a made of taking random staircases to finally get to the first floor. So be sure sure to give yourself time to find the office your here for, it might not be as simple as you'd think!
Wait was ridiculous even with the QLess system. I shouldn't have to wait in line all day for one non-assessment form. Also, collections gets to skip the line when the rest of us have been waiting. It should be one text line for the whole assessment devision.
Went to get a property tax waiver and waited 2 hours 45 minutes. Once I got back there, there were only 3 clerks and one was on her phone with a lobby full of people. So frustrating! If I worked as slow as they did, I wouldn't have a job. Do better.
I've been turned away numerous times showing up hours before they close. This place has a problem and needs to be fixed. Btw, whoever needs a personal property waiver, look at this form they gave me and save yourself a trip.
Bad service people working there are rude i asked this lady at the cashier if their chip worked and she yelled at me saying swipe your card! Like i dont have to be your punching bag because youre having a bad day
I only came here once for jury duty but they let me go. I will say that they do not let you stay if it is already full. I was greeted very politely so do not have any bad experience with the customer service.
The most unprofessional, rude, irritating staff. They left in the middle of talking to customers to go on their lunch break. There’s a queue of 18 people and all of them leave for lunch break. terribly slow
Download the QLess app. You can’t get in line until 8am sharp. They also won’t let you in the building until 8. If I would have known about the app it would have saved me a lot of time.
Don't bother calling. Save yourself hours of hold time and just go to the location. You probably won't get much response, but it's better than death by terminal hold.
If you are going to force people to call 1 hour before jury duty, then you need to update the phone message at that time. I'm so embarrassed to live in this county.
Might be the worst place in the world to have to go to. I would rather be a garbage man for free than have to come to this place more than 1 time per year.
I waited 3 hours for an assessment. If you plan on visiting here bring a blanket, some movies and a sleeping bag. You’re gonna need it.
They wont stop sending me summons. I told them already multiple times I can't come. I do not live in an area with bus service to KC.
I tried to call the assement office still on hold as I write this. Been on hold for 54 min and still nobody has picked up phone.
Went in to get an assessment and was taken care of by Tina. She was great and made the process as smooth as possible.
Hours say 8-5 and I'm here at 9 and the doors are locked. No guards, no signs, and they won't answer the phone
You can never get through on the phone. Residents of Jackson County deserve better service
I'd rather go to the dentist. Four hour wait to get a tax waiver form. Awful
Unorganized and unreasonable waiting, just for basic paperwork.
Not too bad considering most people are not happy to be there.
be prepared with parking metter change
This place is slow and it sucks
Worst Courthouse ever
Very helpful.
