My husband and I went to Jay's to eat a few months ago and they were short-staffed due to the fallout from COVID. Our waitress was awful, and we had to wait over an hour for our food. Shannon (waitress) was all over the map. She was hyper, incompetent, loud, and lost. She would forget to bring us basic needs, like milk/cream for our coffee. Jump to a few days ago. Same waitress, same service. Only this time, she had a dish of biscuits and gravy sitting at a table in front of us that she would eat from while passing it during her job. She would stop and cram her mouth full and continue on. She would then serve food. She was still loud, in fact she yelled towards someone who was requesting something while she was serving us. I actually jumped because she was so loud while yelling at another table about something they needed while she was facing us in our booth. It was obvious enough that she apologized. My biggest problem is the management. Shannon was eating her food (sloppily and in plain view of everyone including a customer sitting at the same table as her food), in plain sight of the management, and they did nothing. I was reluctant to even eat our food after she was eating her own right in front of us. Yet management did absolutely nothing to stop it. So it's on them. I will be contacting the health department. There's absolutely NO excuse for her behavior, let alone the management's. Disgusting. Update: The manager ensured me that he would address the problems.

All places have a bad day. They can be Short staffed, have busy times, etc. However, drama unfolded during our breakfast between our server and the kitchen. I don’t know the details but what I do know is that there was yelling so loud we heard it all the way in the back corner. Our server then announced to the whole restaurant that she was asked to leave. And we only received half of our order. I will admit that they did make it right by offering to make us the food we were missing and helped us with the bill, but even that didn’t make up for the sub par food we received. What we did we receive was cool and not cooked the way we asked ( we were there for breakfast). It just simply wasn’t a good experience. From the time we got there until the time we left, the vibe was one of negativity and chaos. Our first server told us about how they have to pay the owner $5 for messed up tickets (now I can see why) and we heard a lot of arguing and talking poorly to one another from the staff. It was just not the good ole family restaurant feel we were looking for. Definitely not the best breakfast in Nashville as they advertise on their marquee out front. It’s safe to say we won’t be back. I’d rather wait at Waffle House then have another experience like that.

In town for just a couple of days and got stuck in the hotel sick all day. Finally knew I was going to need to eat and didn’t want junk food so I was happy to come across Jay’s and even better I could get it delivered. I ordered white beans with corn bread muffins, a patty melt w fried okra, and their homemade banana pudding (that’s what sealed the deal about ordering from here). I figured that was more than enough food to last until I leave tmw. You can imagine my disappointment when I opened my bag after delivery and I was missing the pudding. I started with the beans & corn muffins as I contacted doordash. They were unable to help me and directed me to contacting the restaurant for resolution. From my time being a dasher I know that’s not normal but ok. I called the restaurant and spoke to Austin who was the manager (owner?) on tonight. He went above and beyond to get me taken care of. Brought the pudding plus some extra muffins for me himself. Everything that I tasted was delicious and reminded me of just good home cooking. Then add a handsome gentleman to deliver dessert! What more could a woman want? Lol just don’t tell my bf

Grateful. I'm not from Nashville so it's always good to find a good time place like Jay's Family Restaurant. On any given morning or afternoon, you'll find laughter and good conversations. The atmosphere is great for the family. Good food. Good portions. Friendly people serving, friendly people being served. Remember BK would say, have it your way, well, at Jay's they DO IT YOUR WAY! If you been there, you know. If you haven't, it's easy to find. On Dickinson Pike, ñear Broadmoor, oh in Nashville. I

The food could have been hotter but other than that the meal was excellent. Carla our waitress was fast, efficient and showed Southern hospitality! A great family style, with home cooking like moma makes! We will be visiting here every time we come to Nashville! Give them a chance to feel your belly! Our new Nashville favorite!

Friendly staff, great food, very much an at home vibe. Always the food arrives so fast you are just getting ready to think about starting to wait and the plates are in front of you like magic. And even with all that being said if they didn't get anything else right but their pie they would still get five stars. For starters because they have so many different types of real deal pie just like mom never made. Delicious! pie! you won't know what to do. I have a piece before and after my meal and then I take one home. Shout out to the perfect 10 that was on the cash register, who proved even paying the bill @Jay's is so very appetizing here

We are from Indiana. We were visiting our daughter in Nashville and wanted something that wasn't fast food. We found this place on Google. We walked in, sat down at a booth, and felt at home as soon as our waitress came to our table She was absolutely the best waitress!!! THEN the food came! OMGosh that food! I've been dreaming about that food ever since! There were 4 of us and we all got different things. And EVERYTHING was fantastic! You cannot go wrong stopping here to get dinner. I know the next time we're down there, we will be stopping again!

Lisa was our waitress this morning and let me tell you, she was the best waitress we've ever had hands down. She's great with kids and knew exactly where to put everything on the table and what to grab for us to make sure our toddler wouldn't knock everything over. The whole breakfast long we didn't have to ask for a thing, she had it ready to go just when we needed a refill or condiments Everything came out SUPER fast and was made fresh and delicious. Prices are incredible and serving size was filling with the breakfast combos or specials that we chose. Thank you again Lisa!

I’m not gonna lie, the food here is nothing to rave about, but I love this place. Food always comes out hot and decent, and very reasonably priced- just very average tasting… “mid” if you will. However, the service here could not be better. Twice I have gotten a waitress named Stephanie who is the sweetest, kindest human on the planet. Not only did she remember my boyfriend and I from just one time visiting, but is so friendly and kind! Several waiters not assigned to our table offered to refill my coffee and asked how the food was. Overall, had a very happy and pleasant experience here.

Not the cleanest little place to stop and eat, but our server was great. Her personality made up for things lacking everywhere else. When we see the words "Family Restaurant," we think "homemade" meals - not prepackaged, processed, reheated food. So, that was our mistake. The food came quickly but the salmon patties were mostly breading, were over cooked, and lacked flavor (I never tasted the flavor of salmon). The salad lettuce was from a bag and had no flavor, and it was limp and wilted. The tartar sauce was good.

You can only order certain foods on certain days of the week. We were there on the day that they had roast beef and gravy on the menu which is what I wanted. As soon as we walked in the door one of the waitresses precedes to tell us that they had forgot to put the roast beef in the oven that morning and roast beef wasn't available. Which was the only meal on the menu that I wanted to eat that day so it wasn't a whole lot of options. If you're going to put it on the menu, then forget to put it in the oven!!

Older, established restaurant with daily, home cooking entrees on the menu, which, if you order those, the meals are a nice value. It was quite busy on a Monday for lunch, so obviously they are doing things right. The fried chicken is fried to order, and I got the chicken tenders which were one of the best I've ever had. Service was good, the restaurant was a little dirty, trash on the floor,.etc. If I wanted some good home cooking at a good value I would be back.

Grew up eating here been in and out all my life.always been my favorite to visit when I'm around the area. Last time I went with my bf which also grew up in and out of here the food was ok The service could be better. To top it off there was a mouse running back and forth under the booths we were sitting near and nothing was done when we spoke to someone about it. Just really sad how things are now

This was suggested to us by a friend due to all the other places being closed. There was absolutely no seasoning with this food that I got, which was a vegetable plate. Now, the cornbread was really good, and my spouse got the pork chops with two veggies, and all they ate was the pork chop. The corn wasn't good, or the other side wasn't good at all. We thought it would be better than what it was, but it wasn't. The service was outstanding though.

I am still drooling over my breakfast from Jay's, and it's been over a month since I visited. My sister and I came here while in Nashville for a show, and oh my goodness, was it the best! The staff was so friendly, the atmosphere was great and the food was exceptional I live about 4 hours away, but I will be returning to Jay's anytime I am anywhere near. I got meatloaf, macaroni & pinto beans. I wanted sweet potatoes or atleast mashed potatoes. They had neither. Also, they gave such small portions. Oh, & what happened to a meat & 3 ??? The Meatloaf wasn't bad, but it's right in fridge along with everything else I waisted my money on. I left Jay's & went right to Poe Boys across the street. Ordered the exact same thing and it was delicious. I definitely got my money's worth.

Although I was only introduced to Jays a couple of months ago by my daughter and her family, this is my go-to restaurant. It opens at 5:30 a.m. so easy to stop by on my way to work. The food is excellent and the service is not only friendly but very attentive. I eat there 3 - 4 times a week. Debbie, Carla, Melissa, Lisa and all the others are the best and make you feel like family. It hard to believe I have missed this hidden secret for all these years.

The chicken fried steak was okay. I would have to suggest next remodel maybe remove the carpet and go with tile or laminate flooring. The server was okay, may have been a bit overwhelmed with all of the customers she had. 4 to 5 tables may just be too much. I would return and I wouldn't discourage others from trying the place out. Bill was $37 and $45 with a tip for 2 people. Not at all a bad price for lunch for two.

I will tell you the only reason this place gets a three notna four is price. The food is great, service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is straight our of 1970. But the cost is ridiculous. You will.spend about 12-15$ a person for lunch Maybe 20 for dinner..I highly suggest you go to Jay's but dang it is high. I visited Jays when in Nashville for business. It is a good country cooking restaurant. Nothing fancy just good Southern cooking. Great service, even when it’s busy. The place is definitely on older establishment and seems as though any renovations has been to keep the same feel as at it’s opening. Most of the menu items are solid. Their sausage is excellent. You are not going to beat their prices around town. Plenty of seating, but you may find yourself waiting on the weekend.

  • Faith “CheckingTheFactsFoodie”

I actually give it a 3.5 but ONLY because we had an exceptionally friendly server. The food was less than what I expected from a "family" style restaurant - and overpriced considering it was all pre-made and not from scratch. The facilities should consider a remodel that starts with removing the carpet.

Always great food as well as friendly and fast service. I love the daily specials. Great daily special sides too. The burgers are amazing as well. I've never tried breakfast here but it looks delicious according to the menu. wonderful pies perched in the display fridge. Nice portion sizes and you really can't beat the price. I can always count on this place for a constantly good home style meal.

We had breakfast here one morning while my mom was in the hospital. The food was good. It was hard to check out because the person taking our money kept answering the phone even though there were other employees offering to answer it. It wasn't dirty but it wasn't as clean as you would like if that makes sense.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! We stopped for lunch after nephews ball game across the street cause we were hungry. Did not leave that way! Biscuits the size of saucers and excellently prepared food. Only critique would be the price of the Country Fried Steak as it was high and the size was about the size of a sausage patty. But the taste was great. Wish they had put two on the plate.

  • R Barbee

Service was great. Was seated fast. Order food to go. The food was bland, not seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was not macking. The green beans didn’t have any meat for seasoned. Would have given them a 5 star however the waitress was on her own and doing the best she could. I actually felt bad for her. She got NO assistance from the kitchen. Even though she was in the weeds and taken care of 20 people at the same time, she kept her spirits up!

I haven't been to a meat-and-three in a long time. I had forgotten what I was missing. The food was great and reasonably priced. There was such a wide variety of food, I had a hard time deciding what to order. I thought the drink was over priced though. And everyone who worked there was very nice. I recommend highly.

Customer service experience was terrible. The food wasn't what I asked for and when I told them that, the answer was that's just how they make it. They didn't try to fix the issue or seemed to care. Food was returned.

Literally just went in to pick up a Uber order & everybody was rude. The customer service was horrible! I went on and canceled the order because I couldn’t deal. Plus it was dirty & disgusting in there. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all

Very pleasant family restaurant whose atmosphere reminisces of times past; rustic and appealing to the agrarian senses. The staff are friendly and the food has wholesome. If one enjoys meat and three style restaurants, one would want to add Jay's as a regular haunt!

Good good. I went for breakfast and it was southern and the home fries are good. They are very good with eggs over easy. Biscuit is also very nice. Reasonable prices
