If you are in New Orleans and you do not go to Joe K's, y'all r missin one of the most important culinary experiences of your life. Period. I was in New Orleans for a couple of days and I am glad I could make it to this wonderful place. I had watched some great reviews of this place on YouTube and read some online and all of them were right. They open at 11am and the tables get occupied pretty soon. The place is well lit with big windows and the ambience is just right. They have a bar at one corner and the kitchen is visible from the tables. They have a bigger space indoors for larger groups of diners. We ordered the daily special, the split pea soup, the regular house gumbo and an eggplant napolean. It was raining when we were there and the split pea soup and the gumbo hit the perfect notes on that rainy day. The split pea soup was rich and creamy and we savored every bit of it. We had tried gumbo at every restaurant we went in New Orleans by then and theirs was right there on the top. It was just perfectly done, thick and savory with perfect level of salt and seasoning for us. The eggplant napolean with rum sauce elevated the whole dining experience for me. It was rich and creamy and the run sauce was just perfect, sweet and creamy and hint of that rum. Damn!! It was just great. We concluded our meal with the bread pudding as our dessert and what should I tell you abt it!!! It was so freaking good. The pudding had crusty texture on the outside and warm and moist inside. The taste of cooked butter on the pudding was fantastic. Wish I could have more of it. The whole experience was a pure joy and I can't recommend this place enough for trying out authentic New Orleans cajun food. Our server Stephaney was great and I found all the servers attentive and they would clear the tables and clean it as soon as the customers left. Everyone seemed to work in great harmony. A must visit place!!! À bientôt Joe K's!!!!

We googled “restaurants in garden district” while visiting and this place was one of the top options. I am so glad that we decided to eat lunch here. I immediately loved the look of the place when we walked in. We both started off with a cup of red beans and rice and ate that deliciousness quickly. I ordered the Wednesday special which was chicken cordon bleu. It came with new potatoes and I subbed the mix veggies for macaroni and cheese (I always have to get that if on a menu). Excellent meal!!! It was a large portion and I wanted to save room for dessert so I ate half. It was a perfect late night leftover meal after hitting up Bourbon Street. My husband ordered the other special which was brisket braised cabbage and rice with gravy. I had several samples from his plate and it was so good. We split a bread pudding with rum sauce to get the full New Orleans experience and it was wonderful. Our waitress, Lindsay, was wonderful and cheerful the whole time. The whole experience was 5 stars.

The staff was friendly and the food was great. It gets very loud and the restrooms are only single stalls for both men and women's restrooms, so lines form quickly. The jambalaya was incredible. The fried green tomatoes were yummy, especially with the shrimp and sauce. The gumbo was good. The trout tchoupatuilas was tasty, as well. The kids' popcorn shrimp was good in taste and quantity. All entree sizes were very generous. The blackberry cobbler is the best I've had at a restaurant.

This was my second experience here and it was as great as the first. I had a bowl of red beans of rice as an appetizer, it was good but be careful it came out very hot. I also had a Caesar salad before my meal as well, I really liked it but my gf did not, it was very heavy on the dressing. For my entree I had the hamburger steak with the default sides of green beans and mashed potatoes, along with the addition of some Mac and cheese. The steak comes with onions and brown gravy on it. This whole meal was perfect for me, one of the best homestyle meals I’ve had at a restaurant. Similar to something your grandma would make you. My gf got the fried catfish, which I didn’t try but she enjoyed. It is definitely a large serving though, so don’t let the price steer you away. The service here was great as well! 5/5 will definitely come back

I went here on recommendation of a local chef I met at a bar in town. Said the country fried steak would change my life. While the country fried steak was good, I was a little disappointed it was pork and that the gravy was brown rather than white, and the green beans were a big disappointment as they were clearly canned. That being said, the other stuff I got were all great. The cup of gumbo I got as a side was good, the corn and crab beneigts were crispy and the sauce served with them was amazingly peppery. The real star was the eggplant napoleon with crawfish and shrimp. Was one of the best things I ate my week in New Orleans! Overall definitely worth checking out, if for the eggplant napoleon alone

Really enjoyed our first meal in NOLA and this is where we ate. Great reputation and it didn't disappoint. The place was very busy on a Tuesday lunch with a mix of "us tourists", lol, and many locals. Service was excellent. Friendly, confident, fast and great menu knowledge. Comes from great training, so kudos to management and/or ownership. Fried Green Tomatoes were perfect. The Jambalaya was a tad dry but loaded with meat and was EXTREMELY tasty. My wife's salad with Blackened Shrimp was fabulous and PACKED with local Shrimp. Very reasonably priced and, again, fabulous young lady server. We WILL return the next rime we are in NOLA.

Extremely slow service here, even if they aren’t busy. Came here this afternoon to eat an early dinner and ordered a chicken Caesar salad and shrimp Alfredo. We waited until we were almost done eating to order to go for my father in law, and we told the server and she said she would be right back…we waited close to 20 minutes for her to come back. We were waving trying to get her attention but she kept hanging out with her coworkers and messing around in the kitchen. Food was good for the price and the amount of food, but I wouldn’t come back again just because it took over 1.5 hours to get out of there.

During our wait we were super entertained by a gentleman playing the sax (terribly) outside. I enjoyed it tbh. Upon getting seated, it was small, but jot crowded. Service was prompt and accurate. The prices were reasonable. The food though.... it was sooooo delicious. The fried green tomato appetizer was phenomenal & so was the baked catfish. I was full, but couldn't stop eating. I even stole from my table mates plates a bit. Definitely would go back again

This is a must visit in New Orleans. If you're a foodie or just looking for a great place to eat, this is the restaurant to visit. I started with the fried green tomatoes and they were the best I've ever had. The entree was something is usually don't order but that's about to change. I ordered the trout tchoupitoulas. I was full about 3/4 of the way but it was so good I finished it. Lightly floured and topped with shrimp and crab meat, you almost can't go wrong. I highly recommend this place. Staff is friendly, dress is casual, prices are fair.

Amazing food, wonderful staff and wonderful atmosphere!! I will be returning soon! Joey K's has been on my list of restaurants to go to for a few months, it did not disappoint! The service was fast, friendly and accommodating. All the food offerings sound amazing and the chalkboard specials are fantastic. Also the cocktails are great and affordable. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu!

Dinner was great! We got the cornbread, fried artichoke hearts, jambalaya, and a shrimp po boy! Dylan C was an amazing server! He was friendly, kind, and didn’t mind us tourists asking him questions about what to do and where to eat. Please give Dylan a raise, he was nothing but a joy and constantly had a smile on his face which is so nice to see as new people to this amazing city. ☺️

This small place in the big easy is dropping some fantastic family favorites and we had a chance to experience it for ourselves. The red beans and rice with andouille sausage is a dish I would come back here for, because I have never had better red beans and rice with the perfect flavor of the South until now. The lady enjoyed chicken fried steak, which was actually two pounded-out pork chops battered and fried with mashed potatoes and gravy. A hometown heavenly hot spot for sure

I liked the sweet corn hush puppies and rice and beans. The dessert (chocolate brownie a la mode) was also really good. My main course however, the shrimp and mushroom fettuccine, wasn't as good. It just wasn't very flavorful and didn't have that creamy buttery taste that you would hope for in a fettuccine alfredo. I had to add a bunch of hot sauce in order to make it more flavorful.

I got there at 11AM because I’m on a business trip and needed a place to hang out and do some work before my meeting. Ended up not being able to get any work done because I couldn’t stop eating! The corn and crawfish fritters were out of this world and the hamburger stuck was perfectly cooked. Sides were green beans and mashed potatoes, which I cleaned off the plate. Service was exceptional and attentive.

We stopped in her randomly while walking through the garden district. A hole in the wall diner feel, the staff were friendly and it seemed a staple local watering hole. The corn bread was fantastic and the coffee was awesome. It was a happy accident to stop, and I would certainly go in again if I was walking the area again. This would be a frequent breakfast spot of mine if I lived in the area.

The bartender was quick and heavy on the pour that made for great drinks. Our food came out super quick and very hot. The red beans and rice were very tasty, the crab and corn bisque was amazing; however, the eggplant Napoleon was the best. The shrimp was fried to perfection and the eggplant was prepared to perfection. This is our new place to have a great time.

I used to come in this place in the late 90s and remembered it being good, returned recently and I think it's even better, good sized portions of excellent comfort food to soak up the previous evening's bad choices. Some of the best fried catfish I've had, red beans and rice were perfect, fried green tomatoes were on point, as was the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. Service was quick and friendly. No complaints, glad we stopped in.

On our visit to Magazine St. we passed by Joey K’s and decided to split an appetizer (the seafood and sausage gumbo) which was delicious. We sat at the bar and I had their Pimm’s Cup which was great too. The servers were friendly and attentive and overall the place had a casual laid back atmosphere. We’re glad we passed by and would definitely stop in again the next time we’re in the area.

We came here on a recommendation from our tour guide as well as the pictures. We were really wanting to try the crab beignets, but sadly that was part of their old menu. I had the gumbo for an appetizer and it was ! The jambalaya was spicy, but dry. I wasn't able to finish it. My friend has the shrimp salad. The shrimp were very tiny, but she said it was well seasoned.

I’d say this one is more 4.5 stars because of the service (or lack of). The food is great and is good value for the portions you get. It could just be the seating location we were given by the staircase, but our server took a very long time to come get our order and we had to ask someone to find him to get our check. It was a very souring experience when we really enjoyed the food. If we come back to the area we might give it another try.

First time eating here and let me just say it was delicious. The portions are nice size, menu was very comforting and the cost was great. The menu offered daily specials, this was New Orleans comfort food at best. You must try the Eggplant appetizer, we were blown away! Staff and atmosphere were nice as well. Whether you are strolling on Magazine street or just looking on the internet for some place to eat, I suggest checking out Joey Ks.

Food was good. Lamb shank was tasty but too salty for my taste, didn't enjoy the canned green beans. Fried green tomatoes was really delicious, but the portion was petite ( 4 slices of tomatos). Pasta was not drain properly, full of water at the bottom. Not enough sauce to cover all the pasta. Just like the toasts, not enough butter to cover the toasts.

The food was absolutely amazing. We stopped on a whim, and so happy we did. The staff were all extremely friendly as well. We started with the onion rings which are hand battered. The batter was light, and onions were soft and tender. Fantastic. For our main meal I had the steak burger and my wife had the roasted Turkey. Both meals were extreme flavorful and much larger in portion size than expected.

  • Michelle A A

Loved the chicken and cornbread and red beans and rice. Mashed potatoes- no. Amazing dessert. First server was great. Second was not my favorite but other people there were really sweet so I want to note that. Recommended this place to several of my peers attending a conference in NOLA this week. I would go back again.

Solid downhome Louisiana cooking. The savory crab-and-corn beignets, eggplant Napoleon and jambalaya were all pretty tasty, although they lacked the last little detail that would make them truly memorable. The blackberry cobbler is so-so. Good selection of local beers. Cheaper if you pay cash.

Friendly and good service. There are so many great options. We ordered the Eggplant Napolean for an appetizer. It was fried eggplant stacked with fried shrimp and a crawfish creole sauce. YUM!!! We had the grilled chicken salad and the white beans with breaded pork chops. Everything was seasoned and really good. For dessert, the brownie with ice cream. Great dinner.

Delicious! Our waiter was very attentive and service was quick! You walk In and immediately get a cozy home style restaurant feel. The food was delicious! Not pictured is the hamburger steak my boyfriend devoured. The egg plant as great, i wish i would have gotten it as a meal. My only complaint was the trout was just slightly over cooked. Definitely give it a try!

Great experience. Restaurant was busy but we were able to be sat immediately. Great atmosphere Food tasted amazing - the gumbo was true Louisiana gumbo. The beignets we're more like hush puppies with a different breading, and tasted amazing! Loved it! Got the trout - great taste and flaky. Large portion size with good amount of shrimp. Overall great experience!

I can't believe I haven't written a review for these guys yet- I've been bringing my food tour guests here since I started! Great location for tourists (get out the French Quarter already, what are you doing?) and locals- the place is full

Food was absolutely phenomenal. It tasted fresh and very well seasoned. The Corn and Crab bisque that was available at our visit was delicious as well. Dustin was our waitor, and he was top-notch. He kept the glasses full and even gave us

Cute little local place, daily special was chicken cordon blue, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Shrimp stuffed peppers and braized cabbage. Everything was very delicious!!

This place is a gem on Magazine. I was down in the area taking the wife to lunch at a little spot around the corner. There was a wait so I got the waiting vibrator coaster thing and decided to walk a little. Didn’t expect to eat anything

One of our favorite restaurants in the area was jam packed wall to wall on this trip to magazine street which caused us to try out a new location. Lucky for us, not even a block up was Joey K's. We weren't planning on "creole" fare for

While taking a walk through the Garden District of the Crescent City, came across this lil' gem of a place and was happily satisfied with our experience. Our waitress, Stephanie, was informative, friendly and suggested the Eggplant

Visited 11/25/23: Very impressed with the atmosphere and service. The appetizers, fried tomatoes w/grilled shrimp was very delicious and the artichoke dish was very tasty.

Home style food. Simple and cooked properly. Always very tasty. They really got it right here. Good service and very reasonable prices. My go to place in nola. I know I will have a good meal there. Highly recommended. More

Overall an okay experience. Wife's salmon salad and son's catfish were good. Onion rings were cold and sauce stagnant. Gumbo was not traditional. Wasn't bad per se, but it was as if someone from the North made it.

DO NOT sleep on Joey's. Fine dining food with diner sized portions, and the best cocktail prices on the block.

We tried this place out last night! The service was great, awesome atmosphere! Great food, tried the catfish fish and trout! You can sit inside or outside! Fun restaurant and vibe! Drinks looked awesome too!

We ordered 4 dishes to share and finished them all. They were unique and so good! The trout was my favorite. Thankful for an outdoor table during this crazy Covid time. Overall a wonderful experience. More

Super fun vibe here, excellent food and service. Eggplant Napoleon was amazing. Good to get outside the French Quarter and avoid the chain restaurants to sample new orleans dining. More

Family friendly atmosphere. Great service and great food for New Orleans cuisine. You'll likely have to pay for street parking.

I liked sharing three dishes with the gumbo, oyster po boy sandwich, and crawfish fritters. They were so good in this restaurant for the first time on Magazine Street.

Average all around. Service was ok, food was decent. They forgot our cornbread, but gave us a soup that they had extra, so I guess that's good. More

  • Mojo

Great place for lunch. Jambalaya was delicious as was the gumbo. Gets busy fast.
