We went to the JHB Zoo today. It was a great day!! There was a buzz of maintenance and grounds keepers all over the show cleaning up all the fallen leaves, chatter from the various cleaners in the different pens cleaning up for the animals. The animals looked really well looked after and it’s the first time being able to look at the flamingos and not being grossed out by the smell. Well done!! However, the bathrooms do need some love and attention please- they were clean but several were without toilet paper, the Amazon toilets were without soap and toilet paper (thank goodness for having wet-wipes with us). Also, I think due to it being a week day many of the curio stands were closed we were not made aware that the restaurant by the old lion enclosure wasn’t opening today and finally accepted the fact that we had to have chip n dip for lunch on our way out we spotted a restaurant tucked opposite the owls- that would have been great information to know on arrival . All us moms were dying for a hot cuppa coffee and something more substantial to eat for the kids. Overall- best zoo experience in a very long time! Keep up the great work and we will see you soon! Ps! Shout out to the dude who saved the day by refilling my daughters slushy when she dropped it shortly after walking away! You truly saved the day!!

We recently visited the Johannesburg Zoo and were amazed by the diverse range of wildlife on display. The zoo was clean, well-maintained and had a friendly atmosphere. The exhibits were well designed and provided plenty of space for the animals to roam and play. We were especially impressed by the African savanna exhibit, which was a perfect representation of the natural habitat and allowed us to see the animals in their element. The staff were knowledgeable and passionate about the animals, providing us with interesting facts and information about each species. They were also available to answer any questions we had. Additionally, the zoo offered a variety of educational programs, including guided tours and animal encounters, which made our visit even more memorable. Overall, we had a fantastic time at the Johannesburg Zoo and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and educational day out. The Zoo is beautiful, big and well maintained. Went to spend the day with my family and we were impressed at how the Zoo has been kept up to standard with rules very well enforced. Picnic space were clean and the atmosphere has been very welcoming and beautiful. Impressed with how the bathrooms are kept clean though they could use some renovation. It’s a good space to visit with family and do not have to be concerned by safety. I would advice however people bring their own food, we bought hot dogs with wors and we were disappointed by the wors as it’s not the sausage saloon standard we are used to, it tasted very bad.

A fun filled day. It was honestly so much fun. The zoo is so huge, bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water (hydration is a must, especially if you'll be going in the summer). There are various ways to explore, be it renting out a golf cart, booking a tour (think safari) or walking. It is fun for the whole family, something for everyone. The entry fee and food are super affordable or you can bring your own food in. It is a very budget friendly outing that is worth your time and money. The staff is so friendly. The staff working the kiosk is welcoming and attentive. All in all, a definite must visit.

I would highly recommend visiting this zoo, It is situated in a very nice area in Johannesburg, and the zoo provides safe covered parking it is also a place to go if you are not someone who doesn't like to get trampled by the masses. The zoo was clean and well kept with numerous bathrooms, food stalls, and places to sit, relax, and enjoy oneself. There are also rides for the kids to enjoy many more entertaining things to ensure a day well spent for the whole family. Highly recommend an outing to Johannesburg zoo.

It was my first time going to Johannesburg zoo and trust me I had so much fun. I didn't know much of that place more especially about where to find or to see certain animals, but the employees there were very kind to assist me. In my whole life I wanted to see a lion, elephant and wild dog and Johannesburg zoo made my dream come true. And what I also liked about that place is that it has fun activities for kids and you can find yummy food as well and I believe there's a lot there. Please take your family there and have fun, you will thank me later.

Google maps takes you to a nursery down the road. Hire the golf cart, you get to see a lot quickly but there's a long waiting list. It's a peaceful zoo only downside is the cafe/restaurants close early and on a hot day, you can't buy any refreshments if everything is closed way before closing time and I was annoyed that 2 hrs before the zoo closes people were ushered out of the building with the animals from the Amazon. We didn't see any lions. It's not. I don't think it's value for money when you don't see much animals.

Parking well done, entrance good. Basic maintenance neglected. Fences, touch of painting, walkways concrete and edging. Food stalls are not stocked, and vendors are not on duty timeously to sell and make money. Lions is very disappointed . This place always has potential but opportunity not explored properly by management. I want to see some serious action and intervention by management. Years back, the gate/ entrance between the zoo and the museum was operational. Why not again and enter into a partnership and get the feet we need to bring in the money to this legacy heritage two places? Please

We had a fun day at the Johannesburg Zoo today with a 3, 5 and 8 year old. The kids and us adults enjoyed the whole experience. There are nice playgrounds dispursed throughout the zoo to give everyone a break from watching animals and we ended up having a picnic close to a playground. The eldest two loved the snakes and could not get enough. We also bought slush puppies, popcorn and samoesas from vendors inside the zoo. All in all a great day out which we definitely can recommend.

A wonderful experience for adults and children. The zoo has been renovated over the years and is in much better condition than I remember it from many years ago. I highly recommend renting a golf cart which costs R200/hour...an hour is NOT enough! Go early to avoid a lengthywait. There were unfortunately no gorillas which I looked forward to seeing. All the other animals seemed in healthy condition and clean environments. Great day indeed!

Took a break away with the kids this weekend and took a chance on the zoo as the kids asked for it. Really pleasantly surprised, organized, safe and very clean. Don't let the entry fee fool you it's worth every cent. You can spend the whole day and not see everything there is to see. Food options are great but take a walk around to find the right spot for you. Really recommend it for a family outing to get into the sun and have fun.

Get the golf cart, and if you think you'll just use it for an hour, you won't... get it for 2. You'll need it unless you are a really great walker. The animals appear very well cared for - given they are in captivity. The fencing around the enclosures stops you from getting great pics, but it's worth seeing if you can't go on a safari. Inexpensive tickets make it a plus.

A beautiful little sanctuary to visit with the children. They have multiple places with food stands/ trucks with food, drinks, ice cream and more. You can rent a golf cart to go around which would be a good idea because there is a lot area to cover. They also have some fair rides near one of the entrances with multiple rides from r20 if I'm not mistaken. There is also a restaurant. I paid just under r70 and just under r120 for adults for entry into the Zoo

We just love it, make sure to get the golf cart for 4 or 6 for 2 hours, very worth it makes it more enjoyable and easy to get around. Oh yes and to top it off , some carnival rides. Nice for the lil ones. tickets are about 20 rand for one and one ticket per ride, i could be wrong.Christmas lights are gonna be goooood.

Nice place to visit. Clean, plenty of animals and places to sit and have a picnic. But its sad see animals outside their natural environment, caged in and bored. Too little space for them rom, the situation with the birds is even worse. They cant literally fly. I guess this is for educational purposes, guess zoos are necessary but sad to see.

This was a wonderful family day adventure. We had a lot of fun. Was disappointed about the Aquarium that was closed already when we got there too late. We will go there first next time. The paddle boats were out of service, and some of the push carts for children need to be serviced, but we had a great time and will definitely go again

A very big zoo, you walk for hours enjoying the sight of various animals. The entrance queue gets very long during school holidays. You are allowed to bring your own food but there are food stalls around the park. My young cousins really had a great day exploring the wildlife. I'm planning on bringing my young siblings too. More

There is a wide variety of animals from spiders to elephants. 3 Kiosks along the paths to buy some refreshments. Safe parking. Highly recommended.
