"I bought my third pair from this store in just over a year and have always received great service from all the team"
I was looking for a British handmade pair of nice and reliable Chelsea boots in several well-known stores of famous brands : Church's, C&J,... in the 350-450 £ range. Finally I had a look at the Cheaney store, a brand unknown to me, and I found a Godfrey model at 295£, a sale price instead of 425£. Their chessnutt color and style is close to the cambre model by the french elitist brand Weston, whose price is listed at 845£. But the philosophy is different because the British shoemaker awarded by the Queen in 2016 opted for a thinner top-quality box-calf leather smoother and lighter than the french choice. So they are very confortable and not give you the impression of walking with a pair of military boots or riding boots. It's a personnal choice and I found it more adapted for a casual dressing. The store in itself is luminous, spacious with a British couch where the well-mannered employee brings you your precious Cinderella's shoes while your wife and kids have a tea-break time at one of the cafe restaurants just in front of the store.
I ordered a pair of Walnut Grain Cheaney made to order fur lined boots in the Scott style in May in order to be ready for the British Winter! The shop told me how long I would have to wait and they were very accurate. The shop is sometimes a little quieter so you get a lot of attention from the friendly sales staff who let me use their toilet when I was caught short. Cheaney are becoming like the Church’s shoes of old in terms of quality to price and they often very stiff competition to Crockett and Jones in terms of value. In fact in the field of fur lined boots and boots generally. I would tender them as the best in terms of value to price out of all the Northampton manufacturers. Considering I have nearly 60 Goodyear welted shoes (though I’m not a centipede) from Edward Green, Church’s, Crockett & Jones etc I feel qualified to report. In the photo I show them tested in the extreme conditions of the Hungarian winter hiking in the hills. They were warm but not overheating and did not let in dampness!
Cheaney is a fantastic company, and Alex (the manager of their Covent Garden branch) is a real credit to the company, extremely helpful and very patient with answering any questions about all things shoe related. Since the start of the year I have become acquainted with the company after venturing into the realms of high quality footwear and have now bought several pairs of their shoes; the company has a very family feel, with staff taking real pride in what is a wonderful quality fully English made shoe. Do stop by - you won’t be disappointed!
I would like to rate them highly as they have a lovely shop with knowledgeable staff and decent looking shoes. Unfortunately however the leather sole on my shoes barely lasted a year, twice. New soles cost most of the new shoe price and take something like 6 weeks. I now have another hole in the sole on the new soles… clearly this company doesn’t make durable soles and it looks like their business model. I recall suspecting something when the shopkeeper kept subtly checking the soles when I brought them in once due to another issue.
I bought my third pair from this store in just over a year and have always received great service from all the team. I regularly drop my shoes in for a deep clean and polish free of charge, an added benefit to the investment made in these beautiful shoes. I’m very happy with my latest pair but also love my two older pairs and look forward to continuing to use this store for my shoes. The team there are also very knowledgeable and clearly take great pride in their product.
Many thanks to Alex, the store manager at Cheaney's Covent Garden location, for providing an exceptional service. He was incredibly accommodating, patient, and took his time to help me find the perfect pair of shoes. His extensive knowledge of the brand and attentive nature made for a memorable and enjoyable shopping experience. I highly recommend seeking his assistance for a truly outstanding visit to the store.
It was my first time at the store and the first in eight years buying winter shoes. I was finding the whole mission a little difficult but the store manager, Alex, was just amazing! He went above and beyond to help me and I am so appreciative and thankful for his customer service. Alex and the Covent Garden team definitely deserve this glowing review. Thank you so much!
Cheaney is my go to place for shoes. After buying my first pair of Cheaney's a few years ago I don't look anywhere else now. Not only are the shoes brilliantly made and last a lifetime but their customer service is first class. Alex in the Covent Garden store is so helpful, friendly and able to help with any question!
Great range of high quality shoes. One of the best Cheaney stores, with lots of exclusive models. Also worth visiting the Cheaney factory shop near Kettering if you're ever up that way as you can save big money on your favourite shoes.
Alex is great, made sure my size was in store in various styles for ladies. Kept in touch by text, was accomadating. Store was beautiful, they take pride in everything.
Impeccable service from Alex, who showed incredible knowledge and his true authentic love of the products. Tom, Edinburgh.
