I am giving Mr. Earthman 1 star only because of his dishonesty, I am currently in the preplanning stage of asking funeral questions. Mr. Earthman told me over the phone that he doesn’t charge an assignment fee if I were to use insurance. I was surprised because I knew that most funeral homes charge an assignment fee of 3% to 5% of the total bill. Fast forward several weeks later, as a precaution I called Mr. Earthman and asked him to email me all forms that would need to be signed in the event of a funeral so that I could review them. On the form “Irrevocable Assignment of Insurance Proceeds” at the bottom it clearly states that if the funeral home does not receive funds within 30 days (it could easily take more than a month for a policy to pay off) the Beneficiary has to pay the full Assignment Amount, plus a 10% HANDLING FEE. Imagine my surprise I called Mr. Earthman to ask about this fee and he had the nerve to tell me that he was not aware of that 10% fee. I was stunned, I thought maybe I had made a mistake so I told him since I was not at home that I would check the form again when I got home. After checking the form again I emailed Mr. Earthman the part of the form that shows the 10% fee. I have yet to receive a response from Mr. Earthman despite multiple follow up requests. This is really despicable behavior and I would urge others to go elsewhere because there should be no compromise on honesty and integrity. Mr. Earthman comes across as very knowledgeable and helpful over the phone so be very careful, he would have been an excellent used car salesman. If you must deal with Mr. Earthman make him email you all forms beforehand because he can be a smooth liar over the phone. There is a good reason he went into hiding with me, he knows how outrageous that 10% fee is and more importantly he knows that I caught him red handed in a big fat lie. It’s really a shame because most people are vulnerable when calling a funeral home because they are grieving so there is no telling how many people Mr. Earthman has tricked in the past.
I was not aware of the ins and outs of making funeral preparations for loss of a loved one. My daughter had been in home hospice for a few months, but I never had the courage to look into making funeral arrangements while she still lived. Joseph J. Earthman Generations was the best call we made upon my daughter's passing. Joseph answered the phone himself. He is soft spoken, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and took the time to educate us about funeral arrangements, the terminology, the process, and was upfront with the costs without pushing to make business. Debbie is an angel walking this earth, so gentle and kind-hearted. She embraced our family with so much love and transformed a painful moment into a moment of peace, joy, and celebration of our Tati's entry into God's Kingdom. She treated Tatiana as her own daughter. She listened to our wishes and made them them happen. She assisted us in bathing and dressing our sweet little girl for the last time. I will forever cherish this moment which she called, Tati's spa day. The essential oil diffuser and the music in the background are ingrained in my soul. Tati looked so peaceful and beautiful and smelled of frankincense. That is the most rewarding moment in my life and I'd recommend this experience to everyone. Fred is a quiet and beautiful soul. He is so welcoming and kind to all the guests. He is a wonderful addition to this fine family owned business. Joseph J. Earthman Generations is a blessing to our family and we are forever grateful for the exceptional service provided.
The phone call that came late one night two weeks ago left me in shock. My niece told me that she found her mom had died suddenly of an apparent heart attack at her home in Houston. This was totally unexpected and I flew down the next day to help make arrangements for her funeral. My niece had never been to a viewing or funeral so just decided to cold call some of the local funeral parlors. She told me that she had immediately gotten a good feeling from Joseph Earthman and we decided to visit him the next day. My niece and her mom were very close so this was all very traumatic, but Mr. Earthman’s comforting manner had a very calming effect. Within an hour after our visit he was able to make the necessary arrangements - all within a couple of days of the funeral mass. He made all the appointments with the church as well as the cemetery to pick out a plot. He went over everything that needed to be done…always trying to save us money where he could and always putting our best interest first in making sure my sister’s funeral was a tribute to her legacy I don’t think we could have gotten through this without Joseph’s compassion and guidance. Joseph J. Earthman is a family owned business that has been around for generations and it shows in the care they take with your loved one and the kind consideration shown to the family. It is very tough to make decisions during these difficult times so you definitely want Joseph by your side to help you through it. Sincerely, Joan McMorrow-Ferrante
5 years ago my husband took his life after several years of mental illness and prescription drug abuse. It was a Sunday and I was desperately searching for a church / funeral home. We called Joseph on Sunday afternoon and surprisingly he met us at his office an hour later. I told him we were Catholic but had not been practicing for several years. He said he attended St Theresa Catholic Church in Memorial park and took care of arranging the contacts for a Rosary and Funeral with my husbands body there and then, cremation. It turned out as perfect as I could imagine due to the circumstances. I would highly recommend him. I saw a recent bad review regarding insurance and Joe not knowing a provision of the contract. If it were me, I would be reviewing the contract with my attorney. I suspect he is trying to make it right. I believe Joseph J. Earthman is the grandson of the original Earthman Funeral Home and I respect his knowledge and experience.
It's a difficult time for families while dealing with the death of a loved one. I met Joseph Earthman the day before my father-in-law's funeral and I knew right away that everything was going to be ok. Joseph sat with us at a table and it felt like he was a member of our family. He discussed the arrangements with us and was so helpful that we couldn't have ask for anything better for our loved one. Joseph was right there with us from the funeral, to the service and then to the grave site. He was personally involved with the entire service. Joseph went above and beyond for us.He is a kind, honest person. We will never be able to thank him enough. Even though it was a time of great sadness for us we felt happy and relieved to have been provided such a perfect funeral service for our loved one. Thanks again Joseph. God Bless You.
Joseph went way above and beyond for our family during the hardest time of our lives. From explaining the cremation process start to finish, to personally helping the doctor through the online death certificate process, he made the process as simple as possible for us, allowing us to focus on our family and grieving. Joseph was very responsive and kept us in the loop since things were still in COVID lockdown. All our interactions from beginning to end were with Joseph directly. No one wants to think about funeral services, but the reality is that we will almost all be in the position of having to make arrangements when a loved one passes. I'm beyond thankful for the services Joseph provided for my family and would definitely recommend him to others.
Fantastic people that won't break the bank. After calling literally EVERY funeral home in the greater Houston area, Joseph J Earthman Generations was the clear choice in service, quality and price. Joseph, himself, actually answers the phone. In a time of immense tragedy, Joseph and his team embodied genuine humanity. Our family dynamic was unconventional and at times contentious. Despite numerous challenges and setbacks, Joseph was consistent in his availability and flexibility to make this process as easy as possible. From start to finish Joseph and his team were incredibly accommodating. Thank you Joseph, Debbie and Fred for all that you do.
Joseph Earthman leads a special family owned and operated funeral business. There is no hype, no selling pressure, no exploitation of grieving. Instead, there is only a serenity, simplicity and clarity of the necessary processes, procedures, administrative issues and, simply said, care, of these who are deeply hurting at a most difficult period in their lives. Situated in the Rice Military/Crestwood area of Houston, his establishment is easily accessed, simply and elegantly presented. His welcome is warm and understanding. I recommend Joseph J Earthman Generations family funeral service unreservedly.
Joseph Earthman and all the staff at Joseph J Earthman Generations provided the most sincere support for our family and friends when we have called on them for funeral arrangements. We are remarkably impressed with their attention to detail and they guided us through our time of hardship without flaw. Their professionalism is exemplary. They handled every task with the most delicate fashion - going above and beyond the call of duty to comfort and ease during one of life's toughest times. I will definitely continue to recommend their services to families in their time of need.
Debbie and Joseph did a wonderful job on my father's funeral service. From the first interactions with them, I could tell they deeply care for their clients. Debbie always responded quickly with the questions that I could only think of in the middle of the night. And without fail, the answer to any question I had was always something like "yes, you absolutely can do that" or "of course, that would be a lovely gesture." Their guidance through a difficult time was invaluable. Even people who attended the funeral commented on how nice both Debbie and Joseph were.
My mother had a terminal illness, and I was in a fog. My brother came town to help me make arrangements, and Joseph made himself immediately available. Unlike our other experiences, Joseph did not try to "sell" us anything. Instead, he served as a reliable and competent resource for all of our planning. He was so genuine and personally warm, that I felt comforted in my time of great stress and grief. If I could give a person/business more than 5 stars, I would. Even if you don't live near his office, he can accommodate you. I cannot recommend him more highly.
Funerals are one of the most difficult aspects of life. I will be indebted always to Joe Earthman for guiding me through the process and holding my hand. More than just his professionalism, his kindness and personal participation honored our family. I Lost my husband but gained a friend in Joe. My deepest thanks and kindest regards. Debbie, Joseph and Fred did a wonderful service for my mother in law on short notice. Their care, attention to detail and genuine concern for the ceremony and our wishes were met and exceeded expectations. During a tough time they were very professional and steady for us.
Joseph was a blessing to help us through a horrible loss to our family. Patient, guiding, caring. We do not know how we could have gotten through this without him. Bless you and your staff for all you do in this horrible time of need for your clients.
Joe and his staff were amazing. They took care of everything. My mom would have been proud. Their price is the extremely affordable. Joe and his staff were so caring and let me lean on them whenever I needed guidance. I can't recommend them enough.
If I could give Joseph more stars I would. They were so accommodating in our time of grief. They took care of everything and their price was lower than anyone in the Houston area. Thank you Joseph and staff for helping us through dad's funeral.
Although it was a sad moment, I really liked the presentation of the viewing. You could tell Joseph J. Earthman Generations is a Family oriented Funeral Home and I would recommend him as a first choice.
I appreciate all the work Mr. Earthman provides to the families of Houston, he's my go to person when planning a funeral service. Thank you Mr. Earthman for all you!
Joe was so helpful and kind. We have had to deal with him several times recently and I can't say enough good things.
Do not order flowers from the tribute store unless you want to be embarrassed by what arrives.
The team made everything easy for the family when the family needed it the most.
