This restaurants service is disgusting. We were regular customers here until recently, the last two times we have been here have ended in a nightmare. The first time I asked for a well done steak, the steak came out rare, so they took it back to cook it more and it came back only a little more cooked still pink all the way through, I didn't want to complain so I left it and let them know anyway. The next time I came I asked politely if they could not make the same mistake as last time and make sure the steak is cooked and VERY well done, the steak came out pink AGAIN despite me asking for it to be well done, I left it again and still paid $50. On the same night my husband asked for JD sauce and they've put wine sauce on the steak mind you this steak costs $70 he doesn't like wine and refused to eat the steak as it had wine sauce on it so we sent it back and proceeded to pay and leave, they then expected us to pay the 70 for the steak that was not eaten as it came out wrong. The female manager threw the eftpos machine at me and demanded I pay for everything including the steak that was 70 that wasn't eaten, then the owner came out and started abusing me saying ive eaten the whole steak which her own employee corrected her letting her know it hasn't been touched. I am now a regular at the Donnybrook pub which I advise you go instead of this disgusting place!!! Worst service I've ever been too

Firstly id like to say hiw wonderful the staff were when we got there but went down hill quickly from there.... Ordered the buffalo chicken wings as a starter, porterhouse steak with gravy for my partner & tomahawk steak for myself, but they advised the tomahawk was sold out... our reservation was at 6pm, how do they not have enough steak for a dinner service at 6pm? Anyway gave the benefit of the doubt & ordered a T Bone with pepper sauce. Entree of buffalo wings came but obviously the chef has no idea what buffalo wings are because the wings were coated in sweet chilli sauce. Once again, benefit of the doubt, started eating & the wings were raw on the inside, they offered replacement & next batch were fine. Then the mains came out, porterhouse was cooked medium & t bone cooked medium rare which was perfect, but the porterhouse was extremely chewy like the steak was partly frozen before it was cooked or just a cheap cut. The sauce for both were bland n vegetables with the meal tasted like dirt & hadnt been washed properly. Very disappointed because has heard great things about here. The beer was the saviour...

The reviews on this place are hilarious, only wish we read them all before we dined here on Saturday night. The place was empty at 7.30 on a Saturday night which should have been a massive red flag but we are locals so we went ahead anyway. Much like Kevin’s review, we found the food to be underwhelming, overpriced and somewhat disgusting. The marinara was barely edible- pasta over cooked, ingredients stale and fish tasted like they had been floated in bleach to freshen them up. My partner had the Chicken with some sort of white sauce and a cooked avocado which was a strange experience. The thing that ruined it for her was the worst tasting orange juice of all time. Seriously at $95 for a pub meal and a few drinks the food was outrageously priced for the poor quality. We spent less going out for Japanese food in St kilda the following day and realised what a rip off last nights meal was. I’d suggest firing the chef and starting from scratch with the menu - no reason this hotel shouldn’t be pumping every night given its one of only two pubs within the 5km radius. Heading back to Donnybrook Hotel next time. Sorry guys you can do better!

What an experience. My partner, best friend and I decided to try the Kalkallo hotel because everyone raves about it... We get there and got a little worried as the car park was empty and the front entrance was dark and slightly scary but then we walked in and it had this medieval theme which took us by surprise... Not complaining though because it was pretty cool to see something different, especially for a highway pub sort of thing. Anyway, sat down, ordered drinks and the waitress came over with our drinks and some dry ice for a bit of an "icebreaker".. We asked for a second round of dry ice, that is how cool we thought it was. We ordered our meals and by the time we did that, the place was full. Our meals were decent (not rave-able) and the service was fantastic. The parma did not come with ham (weird) but the crispy chicken is nice and the Porterhouse Steak is a great portion! We will be going back to the Kalkallo as the all in all experience was super cool.

When I first tried this pub at the start of the year it was good, WAS my favourite place to get ribs and lamb shank now that’s their only things that i can eat there. other they have changed chefs, management or they just don’t care but their food is cold, not well prepared or presented. My husband and I have gotten 2 different pramas (Hawaiian and BBQ), grilled barramundi (be aware the barramundi isn’t a nice cut off the fish grilled, its just the whole fish head, tail, skin and all, it looked off and smelled disgusting), a burger and gravy loaded fries all the following food was barley eatable and the general quality of their food has turned to mush We have reserved food with hairs fully aware that either one of us has jet black hair (i am ginger and husband is blonde) they also don’t read or listen to instructions when I ask for a specific sauce not to be on a burger I expect it not to be there

They make great pizza, but that's all. The drinks are overpriced and they won’t let you order a pizza to sit down. The front bar looks dirty and it looks like it has not been renovated or updated since the 1970s. If you go to the lady's toilet in the front bar, you will see how old and in bad need of an update it is. When I went in there for a karaoke night in February, I had not even finished walking into the front bar and the blond woman asked me “Are you going to buy a drink?” my reply was a forced “yes”. I had not had a chance to sit down, and see anyone I knew was going to be there, she was just interested in me spending my money on an overpriced Vodka cruiser at $10.50. I will never buy a drink from there again.

Went here spent $500 between 3 people waiting almost 2 hrs for food, complained about food being cold! Mind you it was seafood and steaks! reheated in the microwave!!!! Then returned like it was remade!!. Never written a review but this place I will never step foot in in my life! Owner couldn’t care less about the place. The saying looks can be deceiving this place is the definition of that looks good worst place I’ve ever been! Department of health needs to go through the place absolutely over priced s***hole I’ll be waiting for the food poisoning to kick in!

In a word… underwhelming. Service was ordinary and the staff seemed very inexperienced with minimal knowledge of food or drinks. The so called rib eye “filet” served on the bone was more like a tomahawk than a filet and, given the quality of the meat, it was way overpriced at just under $53. The fact that it was also over cooked didn’t help nor did the fried frozen chips and tiny pile of bland salad served with it. They’re kidding themselves by calling their bistro a steakhouse if this was typical of the steaks they serve. Can’t see myself ever going back.

Always wanted to go have dinner at the Kalkallo Hotel as we've always heard great things about it. Well I have to say it didn't disapoint at all! My hubby took me here on Saturday night and the food was absolutely delicious! The girls working behind the bar were absolutely fantastic, and same for the service to the table. The steak was cooked flame grilled and it was brilliant! The best steak I have eaten in a very long time. Take it from me if you want a great meal in a quiet friendly pub go to the Kalkallo Hotel.

We love the Kalkallo Hotel and we visit often. Unfortunately this time, there were a couple of problems with our meals however the beautiful waitress Ebony listened our concerns and dealt with them efficiently. She is so lovely and we cannot speak of her highly enough. We understand that sometimes mistakes can be made and due to the amazing service and optimism Ebony provided throughout the night, we will be back again. Thankyou so much

Their new K burger range is great! My partner ordered the original chicken burger for me and even though I didn’t get to eat it until it was cold (as I was working) it’s was very tasty! The batter of the chicken was seasoned well which was a lovely surprise! And the bun lettuce and tomato were all nice and fresh. My only gripe would be that the Mayo sauce stuff was a little on the salty side but over all was a delicious burger and satiated my chicken burger craving - will definitely order again!

Never judge a book by it's cover. This hotel looks like an ugly duckling from outside, however, inside, fully renovated. We haven't been here for years.. how it has changed. The Decor is great, the food is great, with a wide variety. Staff are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. It's easy not to see this hotel, and take the "fast food" in the area.. We urge you not to pass this gem. Take the time, park in the carpark... and enjoy a short break while heading down the freeway!!

Booked a table at 7pm got there at 6:50 seated by 7 staff were very friendly to take our order an offer us drinks came to 8:15 still no sign of order or even entree of oysters an mains were rib eye steak an salt an pepper squid by 8:30 a lady came an asked what we ordered witch was the lady that took our order an said she hasn’t put it through something went wrong sadly enough left very disappointed but will go back an try again one day as people do make mistakes

Setting was nice, my t - bone steak was awesome but I got six chips beside it and quite heavily priced for what I got as the complete meal. The 3 lamb cutlets were also pricey considering they were burnt, dry and came with not much else. Also the meals all came out separately so none of us got to actually eat together because one was finished before the other meal arrived. Other than that everything was fine. Like I said, the setting was really comfortable.

Average food at slightly higher than expected prices. Was still somewhere we went for a pub meal every now and then, however we will not be returning. Our last experience involved frozen-in-the-middle mac and cheese balls (instead of mozzarella balls) and a hair in the chips. When the staff were advised of the hair they weren't very interested and we were still charged full price despite the barely touched meals.

Ordered the beef ribs and got a meal of fat. About 10% of the ribs were edible. We told the staff and asked them to tell the chef. He said they are fatty, (we found that out) and a lot of people like to eat the fat. There was no offer of a different meal or any sort of refund. At nearly $50 I would have expected more from them. The other meals were ok. Very expensive meals and drinks. Won’t be going back.

Had a meal here, as we'd driven past a few times. Was barely anyone there, which is fine by me. Meeks were pricey, especially for steak but the special's board was great value. Fairly fast. Lovely atmosphere with a mediaeval type interior n the beer garden is very nice n very unique. Right next to the Hume though, so a little noisy.

Since the renovation we hadn't been there so decided on giving it another go. Oysters amazing, main share plate wasn't pleasant, when we were asked about our meal we weren't offered any sort of discount for the meal we complained about. Wouldn't bother returning, it's unfortunate because it could be a great place. NO one in the bar very very quiet.

I really don't want to say how much I like this place because I want to keep it a secret for myself. The food is always good. I really like the old style ambience and the fact that it is a nice old pub that hasn't been made to be modern, I like old. It has a really cool outdoor seating area. Don't change Kalkallo hotel you're perfect as you are.

Travelling back from Cohuna, exhausted, accident ahead of us, so stopped for a bite to eat. Natasha greeted us warmly, seated us and took our orders with a smile. The food was amazing, drinks nice and cold, and the service great. Would highly recommend this venue and wish Natasha all the best as she is new to hospitality. Great experience!

Completely surprised! Driven past so many times and never stopped and now I am wondering what has taken me so long! Smoked brisket was OMG and the other was baby barramundi which ain't no baby! The atmosphere is really good for an intimate meal without a lot of noise. Really enjoyed myself as did the old man which took him down memory lane

All my family had dinner there last Tuesday 18 people in total and I couldn’t praise this place more. The waitresses were so friendly and accomodating. The food was delicious, they little kids were served first and nothing was any trouble for them. This was our first time there and we will certainly be back there for more yummy meals

Quality of the food has dropped drastically. Kalkallo Hotel was once my go to place for dining out or takeaway. Now, not so much. The meat (chicken especially) is always dry, pizzas don't taste fresh, sauces/dips/dressings aren't been put as generous as it used to be. What was once a 5/5... barely a 3/5 now.

Our experience here wasn’t very pleasant. But for the few other times we have come here it had been fine. When we asked were our food was the waiter said, and I quote; “THIS IS A RESTAURANT AND IF YOU WANTED A FAST MEAL YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO HUNGRY JACKS!” Apart from that the food was nice (this time).

Food was great, but paying 95.00 for a room that is not wiped down of dust or marks. Bed itself was not good bathrooms and toilets weren't the best either. Awesome food, accommodation not good at all

Great pub, good size tables and friendly staff. Meal portion sizes were excellent, both the steak and chicken were cooked perfectly. Prices compared too the quality was 100%. With over 100 parking spaces and a fantastic outdoor area, i would highly recommend this venue for your easy going night out.

Felt sorry for the lovely bar tender She did refund the lamb cutlets. I wouldn’t even feed my dog the leftovers. He might die. Sack the chef !!! More

The food is amazingly delicious and the staff are so friendly and excellent customer service. They go over and beyond to make you feel welcomed and special for mother's day. They definitely exceeded my expectations. Layout of the place is awesome. I will definitely be going back again. Thank you.

Has alot of potential, I can see Gordon Ramsay ripping this place to pieces and making it a real success. It has improved in the last year I must admit (perhaps a new chef) but the decor and setting is a little strange. A few changes and this place could really appeal to the masses. Good luck

Great tucker. Sizzle steaks are on cast iron sizzling plates with garlic under the steak. Cutlets may have been a bit smaller meal but we ordered a side of veg and it was an awesome feed. Definitely coming back for more brisket.

Have not been to Kalkall Pub for more than 20 years. So pleased to have a friend re union lunch there today 11th December 2020. The staff are still as friendly as they where and the meals are absolutely fantastic . My friend said he will definitely ho there again.

Unfortunately , had high hopes for this establishment. Ambiance was nice , however the wait time was in excess of two hours , and the servings for main courses were woefully small considering the cost . Can definitely not recommend , you've been warned !

I ordered a small margarita pizza, first slice while chewing I felt something poke me and found a STAPLE in my pizza. Called up and they said they have no idea how it got there. Eat at your own risk. They offered a refund but want me to pick it up! HA!

Meal was nice despite the main being just warm and dessert way too hot. This time around I was disappointed, especially with such a hassle about a half cup of tea that was given and they couldn't refill as the used tea bag had already been thrown away

Called in for a quick meal towards the end of our drive from Newcastle. The menu is extensive - we had the entree tasting platter for two which was fabulous. Service staff were superb being both friendly and polite. Food delivery was very quick.

By far one of the best, if not the best pub steaks I've ever had. 450g rib eye, 500g T bone or 700g tomahawk. Cooked perfectly. Other pubs around Australia should look towards Kalkallo Hotel as they know how to put on a feed.

Enjoyed the most delicious, succulent piece of salt water Barramundi with a macadamia and pesto encrusted coating for lunch! Service was lovely, friendly and extremely prompt! Awesome work Kalkallo Hotel and thank you!!

The food is superb! Steak is big and juicy. I asked for medium rare however most of the steak was well done. Nonetheless, the entrees are delicious. The staff are friendly. Great place to eat if you’re craving pub food

Lovely roast beef meal enjoyed today. The meat was very tender and the vegetables were delicious. Not a large assortment of food on the menu. Thanking the staff for waiting on us today.

Paid over $100 for two steaks and a couple of beers. Ordered medium rare, but they both came back well done to death! Needless to say, we won't be going there again.

Pub doesn't look to inviting on the outside but the food is top shelf. Loved the brisket, I didn't need a knife, it just fell apart. Will be back for sure
