The Infant Jesus of Prague is a wooden statue of the Child Jesus, appx. 19 inches tall, which dates to the mid 1550s. “The Little King” wears a crown and in the left hand holds an orb and cross. Two fingers of the right hand are raised in blessing. The Infant is clothed in a simple white garment covered by a dalmatic made of silk or velvet, over which is worn a mantle. The statue once belonged to St. Teresa of Ávila. In 1556, a young Spanish noblewoman, Maria Maximiliana Manrique de Lara y Mendoza brought the statue with her to Bohemia upon her marriage to a Czech nobleman. Maria received the statue as a wedding gift from her mother, Doña Isabella, who in turn had received it from St. Teresa herself. Years later, Maria would pass the family heirloom on to her own daughter, Polyxena. In 1628, Polyxena donated the statue to the Discalced Carmelite friars of the monastery of Our Lady of Victory Church in Prague, telling them, “Honor this image and you shall never want.” During the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), in November 1631, when the army of Sweden’s King Gustavus Adolphus occupied Prague, the Carmelite monastery was pillaged and the statue of the Infant was thrown onto a pile of rubbish, where it lay for seven years, forgotten. When the friars returned to their church in 1637, the statue was discovered by Father Cyrillus. Sadly, the hands of the statue had broken off. Nonetheless, Father Cyrillus fixed up a small shrine in the monastery chapel. While praying in the chapel, Father Cyrillus heard a voice coming from the direction of the statue, “Have pity on me, and I will have pity on you. Give me my hands, and I will give you peace. The more you honor me, the more I will bless you.” Funds to repair the statue came in the way of an unexpected donation from a wealthy benefactor. An shrine in the Church of Our Lady of Victory was built to house the statue, where it can still be seen today. Over the centuries, the Infant of Prague has been a source of many miracles and blessings, such as the healing of the terminally ill and paralyzed, restoration of hearing and sight, and countless more who in humble sincerity entreat the intercession of the Divine Child Jesus.
There are some very nice church visits that you can make in Prague and The Church of Our Lady Victorious is certainly one of the more interesting and memorable ones to see. The church is famous for housing the 400 year old Jesus Child statue, also referred to as the 'Infant of Prague'. Thousands visit this church each year as a form of pilgrimage to pay homage to the statue, and it was certainly busy at the time we visited during our recent trip to Prague. Visitors come from the world over and have included four recorded papel visits - the last being Pope Benedict XVI in September 2009. While the nave was very busy with worshippers and student groups who were occupying the pews at the time of our visit, it seemed visitors were welcome to get fairly close to the image, and photo-taking of the Jesus Child was allowed. However the statue is small, located high up and encased in glass so there is a bit glare when you taking photos. Further, in addition to seeing the Baroque decor of the church and the iconic Jesus Child statue, you can also see the many Jesus Child outfits, which have been gifted to the church from various nations around the world. These are on display in the upstairs museum, which is open from 9.30am to 9.00pm and is free to visit. Of interesting note, the nuns of the church change the outfit of the Child Jesus statue according to a religious calendar. As such, the appearance of the statue will be different throughout the year. There is also a gift shop at the back of the main church nave for those interested in purchasing a rosary or religious souvenir of their visit to The Church of Our Lady Victorious. Overall, we very much enjoyed our visit to The Church of Our Lady Victorious and would gladly return to see the Jesus Child statue and see what outfit it is wearing when next in Prague. In the end, this seemed to a worthy inclusion on visitor 'must-see' list of attractions.
Hezké požehnané vánoce 2023 - a vše dobré v roce 2924.
The first baroque church in Prague, 1644. It holds the Infant Jesus of Prague, a wooden statue of Spanish origin from when the Habsburgs ruled the Kingdom of Bohemia and Spain. Carmelite nuns change the statue's luxurious, gemstone-laden vestments according to the liturgical season: Green - Ordinary Time Purple - Lent, Candlemas and Advent Red or gold - Christmas and Easter Royal blue - Immaculate Conception / Feast of Assumption. In Ireland, the statue is popular and is called the "Child of Prague". Irish brides hoping for good luck and good weather on their wedding day ritually place a copy of the statue outside their homes.
Beautiful and welcoming church. There is a little museum at the side of the church via a spiral staircase. Ornate robes of the Infant Jesus of Prague is well displayed. Peaceful place to spend time in prayer esp at the Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague. If you are visiting as a tourist, please dress appropriately as visiting a house of prayer. Info leaflet with brief history of the church and points of interest is available for a small fee that goes to the upkeep of the church. Recommended to get a copy. Prayer card to the Infant Jesus of Prague in various languages available free. A must visit when in Prague.

A lovely baroque church close to the Hellichova tram stop under the Prague castle. It is famous for the baby Jesus statue which has many different robes that are being regularly changed based on the religious time period. The church itself is beautiful to look at and it includes a museum of many of the baby Jesus's robes as well as miniature Bethlehems made by hand in different countries. Definitely one of the top attractions in Prague.

Barbory a sv. Kateřiny. A pak že svět není kulatý...

Peaceful and full of energy. One of my favorite places to come down and connect my self with the universe. You have masses in English every Sunday at 12pm, and in Spanish an Italian also. Just check their website for the exactly day and time. For those visiting the city, there is a lovely shop beside the church where you can find beautiful gifts and souvenirs. You can also have a quick coffee outside the church. The Jesus Infant of Prague altar is breathtaking.
It felt special to see something that I have known about since childhood. And unlike many other icons such as this, this one was easily view-able and we were able to spend a little time there - not rushed through like we are at some places like this. The church is a little unassuming on the outside, but once you are inside and close to the Infant, it is exorbitantly beautiful. A must-see for anyone who was raised in the Catholic faith.
Nádherný kostelík, za návštěvu doporučuji každému! V kostele jsou k vidění krásné prvky sochaře Otmara Olivy, velmi povedené! V zadní části kostela jsou k vidění betlémy z celého světa (především střední Ameriky) a v patře výstava věnovaná Jezulátku. Mše jsou zde slouženy i v cizím jazyce - španělština, angličtina, italština.

My trip was planned for 2 years and my spiritual experience was more than I hoped for. We were able to attend the English mass at noon on Sunday. On another visit a priest came out to welcome&talk to pilgrims. He invited several of us to the sacristy & allowed pictures of us holding an infant replica. He also gave us a special blessing, including our personal intentions, & blessed the holy articles we purchased.
The Church of Our Lady Victorious (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné) in Malá Strana, the "Lesser Quarter" of Prague is a church governed and administered by the Discalced Carmelites, and home of the famous Child Jesus statue called the Infant Jesus of Prague. The statue, a 16th-century depiction of infant Jesus holding a globus cruciger, was donated to the Carmelite friars in 1628 by Polyxena, 1st Princess Lobkowicz.

Back in the states I prayed to the Holy Infant of Prague. It was one of my mom's devotions. So when I was in Prague my sister and I made sure to find the church in which He has His Shrine and we found it! It's here inside the church of Our Lady of the Victorious. It's a beautiful church. Not as big as others but it's worth visiting. Just being there, brought peace to our hearts.

Mum is very devout of the Baby Jesus. This was an amazing and uplifting experience for her. Super happy to have been able to take her there. The Image is currently in mourning for the situation in Ukrain but no less beautiful for it. We went upstairs and saw samples of the many robes donated and the explanation of how they change according to the religious calendar.
Us Irish are obsessed with the weather and having a sunny day and use the Child of Prague statue to ensure a fine day, it was brilliant to be able to see the original statue, I was delighted with the chance. The church was lovely. I got all the info I needed, I left petitions and bought some souvenirs, it wasn't expensive. I was very happy with the while experience

A lot of pilgrims come to this church to bend down to the infant Jesus- the small statue.the entrance is free of charge. Every Sunday there is a mess at 10.00.in Czech language and at 12.00.in English. There is a museum inside. Just go upstairs and you can see some dresses of infant Jesus as a present of rulers, popes and other people. Fascinating place
If you like incredibly lavish churches then this is the place for you. Looks like it cost a pretty penny. Jesus is here, which is nice. On the ground floor he's only a baby but if you climb the stairs you can see him fully grown. We went into one of the side rooms and saw a nun using a laptop. Can't say if she'll always be there though.
The church has a museum on the upper floor, containing clothes, crowns and gifts donated to the Jesus of prague. Downstairs you will find a small souvenir shop on the ground level and of course, the Jesus of Prague. Jesus doll is just that, a small sized doll, however the church is worth visiting if you want to see the Jesus doll
I have not visited for a long time but was so good to be able to attend the 6pm Thursday English service. Mass was followed by a short Novena to the Infant Jesus. Met Fr. Victor who gave me a blessing and prayed for my family. When mass was over, left feeling very glad and my shoulders were lighter than when entering the church.
I would say it’s a must-visit church in Prague. There is a museum with outfits donated to the infant Jesus from various parts of the world. Also, you can see different cribs from around the world. You don’t need to buy a ticket.

Nice Czech beer called "Svigany" stopped in. For one ended up staying for three! And a bowl of Goulash....very clean, they are in the process of decorating a cellar bar.... looking FWD to going back next year! Easy to find inbetween the western end of the Charles bridge and the "baby Jesus" church.
Great church with numerous nonstandard architecture solutions, e.g., like the preaching stand (cut marble stone) or shining "copper" clothes of the central figures in altar wall. I really enjoyed my visit

An iconic image of Prague history, would recommend it more for the religious and cultural tourists. It isn't the most iconic or beautiful church however.
A must- go place to visit and worship especially if you are from the Philippines. The Sto Niño or baby Jesus is always popular in my home country.
Beautiful Church! Full of so much history! Truly spirit filled. Restoration work going on, but that doesn't hinder the amazing experience at all!
Krásné. Byli jsme tu o Vánocích. Moc lidí tu nebylo.

Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné a Pražské Jezulátko je hezký a přístupný kostel k rozjímání. Dostupnost k němu MHD tramvají staví přímo u vchodu.
A great experience...so much history by the infant baby Jesus....it was a great experience and a true blessing to see such a wonderful place
A před kostelem betlém a živí oslíci.
Exceptional church, original decoration, dedicated to Lady Mary of Victories.

This is a place of pilgrimage. Catholic pilgrims love to have Mass here and experience the presence of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague.
Impressive history, beautiful wardrove collection of the Christ Child of Prague, as well as the nativity scenes from many countries
Very good condition of all the fancy church. Rarely to see a little church in such fabulous ornaments and statues and condition.
