The Kumasi Zoological Garden, commonly called Kumasi Zoo was established in 1951 and officially opened in 1957 by the Asanteman Council as part of efforts to conserve nature with the purpose of displaying indigenous wild animals of Ghana in captivity, engage in the breeding of endangered species, offer a sanctuary for orphaned animals, generate revenue, offer a place for relaxation and recreation, and to demonstrate the linkage between wildlife and culture. The Kumasi Zoo is invariably one of the known tourist sites in the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large. It has about 40 different species with individual species numbering over 135. The zoo, located on a 1.5km square area, is between the Kumasi Kejetia Bus Terminal and Kumasi Centre for national culture. The environment at the zoo is refreshing. The chirping birds, roaring chimps, hissing snakes, crowing fowls, swinging monkeys, quacking geese, and above all, grazing donkeys and an elephant painted a colourful setting
I enjoyed the Kumasi Zoo! Comparing it to the Accra zoo I would say I like the Kumasi zoo better; it was spacious, green and had more animals. Prices range from 2-10ghc for locals and 5-20ghc for foreigners There’s a small stand you can get water and drinks, I advise you take snacks It wasn’t a guided tour like it is at Accra Zoo. We went around ourselves and it was decent. I think you can ask for a guide. Some cages had the information on the animals, some didn’t. The chimpanzees were definitely the most interesting. They would clap and ask for stuff. I saw them eat a whole lot of human food given by the guest, hope it’s safe or the zoo keepers need to advise against it upon entry. The Baboons cage at the zoo was too small from my perspective and made me sad. Most animals had decent cage sizes. I dunno the more I explore zoos I realise I prefer safaris
Honestly I had high expectations of the place given the hype that's going on lately. Visited the location only to realize majority of the animals present were infants. The worry is, most of then seemed Malnourished. The duikers appeared to have sores on the feet; could be signs of infections. Broke my heart to see them that way. Given that the animals are young, I have high hopes for the future of the zoo. But for the zoo to make waves, more animals need to be introduced and the zoo needs to be properly maintained to keep the animals lively and healthy. The location of the zoo is also something else: had to navigate through intense human and vehicular traffic before arriving there; a bit laborious for the ordinary tourist, I must admit. Notwithstanding, the zoo has a lot of promise, good enough reason for people to visit.

Kumasi Zoo welcomes you with a quick and affordable entry, making it accessible for all. While I was amazed by the diverse range of animals, there's room for improvement to enhance the overall experience. It's more enjoyable with company, as the journey can be a bit dull alone. And for those curious minds, yes, there are lions to see! Overall, it's a cool place offering the joy of encountering various animal species.

This is loving when you get the chance to play with God's beautiful creations like the monkey and the snake ,,, well I love the place being renovated and how loving the atmosphere and the environment is. Do you wanna see for yourself I'm uploading photos and videos. Check out and enjoy the beauty of Kumasi Zoo. Lots of wildlife to enjoy.
I and my family were very much excited for physically seeing almost all the wild animals we've been watching on television. I recommend you to take your family there so that the children will have the chance to see the baboons, chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, lions and lioness, crocodiles, eagle, big snakes and many more wild creatures.
It is the largest Zoo in Ghana under the Ghana Forestry Commission. It has various Animals both Ghanaian based and some that were imported. Animals such us Lions, deer, snakes, eagles, camels, other birds, various species of monkeys and baboons, etc

This Zoo is well equipped with different breeds of animals and it's very spacious.. the only downside was that I requested a tour guide and they asked me to use the map and go round myself.. I even wanted to pay a token for the tour guide but there was none available.. I wasn't pleased at all... Adieu!!!!
I especially like the lions. Never been so close before! And the baby chimps somehow figured out how to get out of their cages Oh and roving band of donkeys were sweet until they realized you had food. I enjoyed it!

The place was lovely, there were a lot of side attractions aside from going round to see wild animals. One could see the artist doing the face painting as well as the caterers displaying varieties of food.

Place is still under renovation but it is open to public. You can have a view of various animals and I think they will add more when the renovation works are done. Just need to get your guides with sufficient knowledge of the animals. Location is very strategic in the middle of town.
This place needs a little more touch than it is. Couldn't find some common animals that should be in zoo (Zebra, elephant, hippo, etc). Management can also think improving the condition of animals there. They might die of food poisoning if we allow strangers to feed them
Actually has a decent amount of animals, lions, chimpanzees, camels, ostriches etc. Just it's not very well looked after. The staff are very unhelpful and parts of the zoo look unkempt. S tidy up and having more engaged staff would make a huge difference
Had a great time learning about the different features and temperaments of these amazing animals. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and took us to see every single animal, eventhough we all starting getting tired halfway through... It
There's been some change since I was last here (which is more than a couple of decades ago). And I like the changes. Things could be much, much better. Still, I'm pleasantly surprised that they somehow managed to keep this place open and
A nice place to visit. It's Ok for me and my group, but we were expecting to see more animals. We hope more renovations could be done. In all it's a great place to visit to go around to watch tamed and untamed animals. You will love it.
If your from Ghana, you may like it, so check it out. As I am an International traveller, this was the smallest and saddest zoo experience ever.

I was pleasantly surprised when i went with my family to the Kumasi zoo. They have a lot of animals and it's really big... Bigger than they Accra zoo. The zoo guide was very pleasant and really educated us about the animals.
I like the greenery and how serene the atmosphere was. This is right in the center of a huge market but the place is very serene. The only thing is there aren't a lot of different animals and tree species to see.
The place isn't that arranged well... And labs on the cages don't match the animals description.... Flooded areas too

No tour guide. They should organize the tourists in batches and assign a tour guide to each batch so that people do not just roam about watching animals without major learning.
Few animals there to watch. Too bad. At first the place was interesting but now boring

Room for many improvements but nice. No eateries inside, no areas to sit and rest. Not all animals had information where they came from and if they did, it wasn't visible.
Was quick cool and friendly environment. I was guide through my movement

Good scenery, has developed much than before. But I was a bit disappointed because some animals are no longer available there. Animals like the Elephant and hyenas
It's a very nice place to be seeing wonderful creatures of God. But the place needs some form of renovation. And the should try and bring more wildlife animals.
It was an awesome experience for me being the first time I had an encounter with some animals like lions, camel, cobra, crocodile, eagle, chimpanzees among others.
Great place to hang out with the family. Accessing the place during workdays is difficult because it's located close to the Kejetia Market, a very busy place
I will say the place was not that bad. They had different animals including; Lions(there are two of them I most likely a male and female.I didn't really get
Very nice. Unfortunately, there are no elephants there.

Lovely place to send your kids as also to relax. Experience nature with lions, primates, snakes, crocodile and other fascinating birds
The tourist guide took time to give detailed information about all the animals available. The environment needs a little revamp
The place is being renovated. It's not a shiny zoo but it makes a nice outing for an hour an a half if you have small children.
The animals are mostly in small cages and some seem rather sad. The grounds are beautiful and the people are very friendly.
Very sad. I don't think they take care of the animals very well

A green garden with some wildlife to see . In the heart of Kumasi in Ghana , Ashanti Region …
I didn't really go inside but at the entrance, the security were so rude that I had to go back home
At first I was scared to go there but when I went there the place is very cool and the animals too
Major improvement but some renovation works still ongoing. Definitely worth the visit.
Every all great experience. They need to do more renovation

I think they sedate their animals. Which is animal cruelty
Nice place with variety of animals, plants and people.
Most of the animals are going extinct
Much Fun and Educative ....
