The gourmet seafood pizza so tasty I have my base fin , the porterhouse well cooked with peppercorn sauce the best love it , service absolutely fantastic the girl she managed a full house on her own and on time , the kitchen hand lady did all of the kitchen dishes also great , pizza man fantastic, prices r reasonable but U pay for high standard food and service ur money will be spent well....I recommend to book early as they do get busy and it's not a very big restaurant also the whole interior has not changed since 1969 but very cool it's like nonna home lol love it U can bring it children, wheelchair is not accessible sorry, there is a lot to have if U r a vegetarian, I am sure even if ur on a diet all good . I have had takeaway pizza many times from here over the years. It is home-style pizza rather than wood fire and so may not suit all palettes but is very good. They have one of the most delicious crusts in Melbourne: it is flavourful, well seasoned, good rise and a lot of glutenous chew. Toppings are generous. They take the time to pre-roast vegetables before putting them on the pizza, meaning that they are soft enough to actually bite through and therefore stay on your slice. This is the sort of thought and care that sets them apart from others in the area. They're no frills but deliver high quality within a down-to-earth style. Highly recommend trying them out.

Very stylish artworks on the tavern walls and a very attractive and unpretentious and organic appearance walking through the doors to families at the rustic tables. Although the gentleman running the restaurant may have appeared unfriendly, I did overhear they would make a "very good one" as pronto as it came at a busy time. The 'Supreme' as ordered was exactly that, and the HUGE, fresh, brilliant and tasty, authentic pizza was thoroughly enjoyed by our group, and it in our opinion is better than 400 Gradi from Centrepoint to a '1990's burnt Savoy cracker' crust, with the flavour and texture of the base absolutely delicious. 10/10 for the product.

Trying to support local restaurants at this time and had never been here but read good reviews so i ordered a pizza. Hopefully it was a 1 off but it was a terrible pizza. One of the worst I've had. The base was tough and there were big clumps of flour stuck to the bottom. The toppings were ok but nothing special or fresh. I hate to say it but I think a dominoes pizza even beats this place Edit:I did have a pic of the pizza showing the excess flour but it seems to have been removed

An outstanding dining experience. The food was great, the service was better. One waitress to greet people, seat people, bus tables, run the till, serve the food, operate the phones, she may have been the single most efficient and effective human being I have ever encountered in any walk of life. Polite, courteous, timely and professional. The restaurant was at capacity and I could not have left more impressed.

Standard has not only been maintained but improved. One of the best pizza doughs I’ve eaten in a long time. Very tasty and just the right mix of toppings. The “capo” came out and sat with us as we discussed his process of making snd preparing his amazing dough. Which flour he uses and hasn’t looked back since switching to Italian flour. Slow rise is key. Keep up the good work. The young waitress was so welcoming and attentive to our every need. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Had dinner on Sun night and couldn't fault the Pizza's. Beautiful crunchy pizza base with heaps of gourmet topping, yum. Don't sit too close to the door as it was a bit chilly at this time of year. Thanks, will definitely be back

Wettest pizza I've ever had. Had to stop by the park to wash my mouth out at a fountain after cos it had soap on the base. Mans also got some serious low vibes too, really brings escape room energy. Still, not a 1 cos I like pizza and hate myself and will probably go back.

Very tasty pasta dishes, all the sauces we tried (3) were exceptional, gnocchi melted in the mouth, so good. I highly recommend an old favourite, the Cheesy ,garlic foccacia with sesame seeds as a starter. Delicious! You can't go wrong really, pizzas are always good too!

Rustic Italian pizzeria with excellent service. Cosy with good seats. Pizza was perfectly done, generous fresh toppings (we got the Special - Family size). 3 sizes available with 2-inch difference between each. Price wise, a bargain for the quality of pizzas. I never write reviews but feel compelled to spread the word about this place. This is our favourite pizza in Melbourne. Possibly our favourite pizza anywhere on EARTH. And we’ve tried a lot of pizza in a lot of places. Small, cosey, laid back place. They also do delivery if you phone them up.

Delicious.. go taste for yourself! For me I cannot recall a place where I enjoyed the food more than La Taverna

Our go-to local pizza place. Pizzas are absolutely delicious, the ham they use is unbelievable. Wine selection is also great at a reasonable price. Really great vibe inside, nice and warm on a winters night. Love the retro tables and chairs, give the place some real character.

We love La Taverna. It’s a great family business, run by a great family. It’s unpretentious & give generous servings of tasty homestyle cooking.

So lucky to have this place as my local pizza place. The food is excellent, reasonably priced and comes in huge quantities. It has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. Be sure to try one of Rose's famous homemade desserts.

Amazing food, absolutely loved it. The service was awesome and the quality of the food was top notch. It is a lot cheaper then a lot of the other Italian restaurant's further down Lygon street but the food and drinks were at least as good.

If I could give 1/2 a star I would....pizza was inedible, the crust was soo CHEWY I had to use a steak knife to cut it, the mozzarella tasted like liquid puke, and the toppings were definitely not fresh, over salted, the garlic butteron

Have gone to this restaurant on and off for years and it''s still good. I had the salmon pasta tonight and it was delicious. The home-made deserts were super tasty with generous servings. We really enjoyed our evening here.

Great service and amazing food. Had a mix of pizza, pastas and schnitzel and all were great. Kids LOVED the Nutella pizza too. A brilliant little local eats. We’ll be back!
