I was a member there beginning in 1969 until my ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1975. I was one of the many members at that time who are profiled in the book written about the congregation, " The Church that Takes on Trouble." There was also a film made about the church, "The Heart Cannot Run." I know that many of the principle "founders" of the congregation are now deceased. Those of use that are "Second Generation," who came as a result of the ministry of Bill Leslie, Chuck Hogren and the original UMPS / SCUPE programs are now part of the Evangelical Diaspora. I've lost touch with all of them. LaSalle Street Church was not / is not / and will never be a "Perfect Church." If you're looking for that, Read First and Second Corinthians, written in the First Century by St. Paul. If, after that, you continue to look for that perfect church, you're not only going to be disappointed but likely become a reprobate. But if you see that in spite of the flaws in that first congregation and this congregation, an amazing amount of good is done, then this congregation may be for you.
LaSalle Street Church is one of the most beautiful and "non-denominal" churches in Chicago. Arrived for a baptism and was greeted by Reverend Randall, his warm welcome put us all at ease. The pulpit was large enough to accommodate the baptismal party and font was easily accesed. We recommend LaSalle Street Church for any inter-faith celebration.
I go to church here. It is inclusive of everyone. We often have snacks after service and many homeless come by and are welcome to participate. Christian or not. Member or not. LGBTQ friendly. Just amazing people. Best church I've ever been to.
I have attended service here 4 some time now, yes I'm a member. But sometimes I was not treated as 1. Of course there was benefits, meaning I was not given the chance 2 do some public service, reading of Scripture, etc...
A community of open minded Christians loving all and living for social justice, inclusion and inspired purpose driven lives.
Community orientation is a solid reach out to the needy. Hosts AA meetings, elderly food pantry, and more.
Love it...good folks, good vibes, good news..
Great community of heartfelt loving people.
One of my favorite churches
