Lady Wong has earned a special place in my heart and belly (I’ve been here 3 times in the past month)! From kuihs to cakes to pastries, its treats are consistently delightful in taste and presentation. I wish I could describe everything that I’ve tried, but I’ll have to settle for my favorites… Tiramisu: not a traditional tiramisu, yet one of the best I’ve ever had! The pandan cream is light, smooth, and velvety. The lady fingers are soaked in brown sugar and rich in flavor. It’s REALLY good. Cake: I’ve only had the calamansi so far, but I love it! Tangy, tropical passion fruit curd sandwiched between light vanilla cake and smooth coconut buttercream. I haven’t come across this combination anywhere else and it’s delicious. Kuih: the kuih has a firm yet buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture. It’s subtly sweet, which makes it perfect as a light afternoon snack. I’d recommend the talam pandan which tastes somewhat like “sweet matcha” and “brown sugar boba.” Overall, Lady Wong has an upscale interior but reasonable prices. It offers beautifully crafted desserts with flavors not typically found in the East Village. The owners are incredibly kind and attentive: they’ve always been happy to answer my questions, and, on my last trip, they even noticed that I was a repeat customer and let me sample a new item! A trip to Lady Wong’s has never failed to brighten my day. You can rest assured that I’ll be visiting again :)
@ladywongpastry is passionate about caking your day even more special! This calamansi cake (passion fruit cake) is light and fluffy, the buttercream wasn’t too thick or heavy either, the cake overall wasn’t too sweet. I know most Asians, especially older Asians, enjoy their cakes with less sugar content. Every bite is enough to satisfy your sweet tooth without making you feel like you can’t take another bite. We’ve been seeing their rainbow steamed cakes (kue lapis) all over IG and TikTok. We had to give it a try. And boy it does not disappoint! The steamed cake was chewy and bouncy with a fragrant flavor. It was so beautiful and delicious! Taro ube gateau basically melted away in our mouths. The cake was creamy but instantly liquified the moment it reached our mouths, it was the most interesting cake we had and we LOVE it. We also tried their black sesame passionfruit cake. The black sesame and passionfruit were not too strong, they definitely help balance each other out. The shell was very delicate and melted away in our mouths easily as well. Overall everything was very light and not overly sweet. The textures and flavors bring me back to my childhood days. Love the use of Asian flavors such as ube, taro, black sesame, passion fruit, pandan, coconut, etc.. we cannot wait to be back to try the rest of their desserts!
Phenomenal little dessert shop!! All of the desserts looked so delicate and delectable! They were also not too sweet so the natural flavours really stood out:) 1. Serimuka Pandan (Steamed Pandan Custard Cake) |$2.85 So, so dreamy. The sticky rice colors are beautiful, they’re like crystals. Not too sure if the bluer parts are salty egg yolk bits but I was pleasantly surprised by the sprinkles of savouriness. The sticky rice on the bottom complemented well with the lighter, smooth pandan egg custard on top. The panda was almost pistachio-like, and a little herby. Just a beautiful combination of elements. 2. Baked Ube Nian Gao (紫薯烤年糕)| $4.75 The ube flavor was strong (in a natural, non artificial way) and actually tasted a little earthy. The cake 吃起来真的很糯! Was in mochi heaven. The baked crispy shell contrasted so nicely with the sticky, stretchy baked sticky rice portion. Just in love with the textures and flavor. The shop itself is quite small (no indoor seating) but the variety of desserts there are phenomenal. In love with the fusion of Southeast Asian deserts (Singapore, Malasian, Chinese...) with western culture (mango sticky tarts and matcha panda tart). Can definitely tell that the owners are experienced and worked at Michelin-star restaurants.
"flavors of Southeast Asia" coming to the East Village is a welcome addition. Lady Wong offers interesting combinations of flavors in the form of refined desserts, savory bites, and quality coffee. the small clean interior has relaxed and modern as most of the menu items are set up in glass displays. no seating inside, just outside. the vibes are very much a coffee / tea shop with tasty eats to accompany them. the Americano i had here was really good, aromatic, and full of expresso flavor. got a sardine puff (sardines, onions, and tomato filling a long crispy puff pastry) and a Talam Jawa (two layered steamed cake of caramelized coconut palm sugar + pandan). both really surprised. the sardine puff was bursting with flavors and filled with this nice umami-ness in each crunchy bite. the Talam Jawa is sweet and soft -- didn't think it would be my type of dessert but it was really pleasant and surprised my with how delicate flavors combined together. overall, if you are looking for something off-the-beaten-path that is carefully and thoughtfully made then a stop at Lady Wong should be in your future. Americano ($4ish), Sardine puff ($4.25), and Talam jawa ($2.25) + tax + tip staff are amiable--and receptive to questions about the menu items.
Hawkers Market review #6. Slamming Hawkers Market to a close you know I had to save dessert for last. In full honesty, when I first saw the deserts in Lady Wongs glass cabinet I canceled my previous dinner reservations. How much more New York City does it get to eat at 5 delicious restaurants at the same time? No matter where you choose to eat at HM, you have to end with the absolute anchor that is Lady Wong. These deserts are so pretty, and seem to sell out minute by minute as they pull their offerings one at a time as they sell out. The mango sticky rice tart was one of the few things they even had left for me at that hour, so if you want full reign of their most popular offerings you need to get there earlier than I did. The posh elevation of asian flavors combined with classic european styles is a delicious and inspiring mash up. Matcha crepe cakes, coconut mousse, ube sweet rolls, the list goes on. If you're looking for something a little out of the box for dessert, to eat now or give to a friend, Lady Wong can deliver.
While the atmosphere isn’t really the type of place to hang out the selection and presentation of sweets is beautiful, with flavors for every palate. The passion fruit and calamansi cake is fabulous, with tender cake layers and a nice balance between the citrusy calamansi and the sweet passion fruit. Prices range quite a lot so it seems like they assign prices carefully according to item (which I appreciate rather than a blanket $8-10 on everything). I also got the pandan lotus mooncake and its filling was great! Caramelly, coconutty delicious. The staff who served me was very nice and attentive, and though I think the boxes were overkill he carefully boxed my items up.

This is one of my favorite bakeries in the city, especially considering the assortment of beautiful, chewy, and not-too-sweet desserts. Thankful that kuih can satisfy my sweet tooth without any dairy! Also lasts a few days in the fridge. They also have a great selection of other pastries that are almost too pretty to eat, but then you see their flavor combinations and absolutely devour them. Every time I've gone, the service has been kind and attentive.

Simply delicious and innovative asian inspired and themed American desserts, along with Kuih (rice flour and coconut milk based sweet). Prices are a bit high (average pastry at $7, with Kuih at $2.5) but it is definitely worth it. Instagramble presentation and flavor is strong and that feels authentic. I got the Pandan panna Cotta (brilliant with a maple syrup dispenser) that is topped with a coconut based crumble, the passion fruit pastry (great passion fruit cream center) and the rose water Kuih (great floral flavor and nice texture).
It's a relatively new place for bakery. We have been going back there since the opening, and the selections are great additions to the NYC food scene, and the quality of pastures has been superb especially the large size of sheet cakes. The store is relatively small and it could hold a long line. There are some seatings outside the shop, and it was a great outdoor coffee experience on a warm day if not too many people. Updated in May 2023, many new things since January this year!

We have been following Lady Wong on Instagram for a while and were so excited to see them finally settle down in East Village. They serve traditional Southeastern Asian pastries and various flavors of Kuih, which is one of the most signature Malaysian desserts. We got a bowl of Panna Cotta and 4 pieces of Kuih as our first try. The dessert was amazingly delicate and much more authentic then our expectations. The texture of Kuih was soft, silky and bouncy. Our favorites were the creamy Panna Cotta and colorful Kuih Lapis Sagu.
Lady Wong specializes in Southeast Asian pastries by Seleste Tan and Mogan Anthony, who lived in Singapore before moving to New York. The Malaysian-born husband-and-wife duo has cooked in 5-star hotels, resorts and Michelin star restaurants in Singapore, Malaysia, and New York. Lady Wong has Nanyang inspired pastry with a kuih boutique in the heart of New York City. Now you can slice into each pastry and dessert of authentic Southeast Asian flavors right here in Manhattan.

Love love love this spot! Cannot find such high quality Southeast Asian pastry shop anywhere else in NYC! Tried almost everything since they first opened, love the flavors but I think some of the items are too sweet for my liking. One of the thing I have to point is this Chendol cake that I bought for a special occasion, everyone at the dinner agreed that the flavor was really good but it was just too sweet. It would be great if we could customize the sweetness level for future whole cake order.
Pretty interior and friendly staffs. Good looking desserts, but unfortunately they tasted just OK. My friend ordered 4 different kinds. She had similar reaction. She liked the one with rice flour. I was hoping it’d be like those tropical fruit cakes I had at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and Asian French cake shop in Bali. My cake’s exterior was thick layover of icing with no aroma. It was very sweet and didn’t encapsulate the tropical fruit’s characteristics. Maybe I’ll stick to kubeh next time
It is a nice place with many options at decent prices. The rose kuih was nice. The Raspberry and Lychee was good but too creamy and sweet. The black sesame ball was different in taste and good, not suitable to everyone's taste as such. They had given complimentary cupcake which was good but mine had some silver balls on it. I didn't realize it wasn't edible but took them out on time. I understand it was an honest mistake but please make a note. Rating the place just on taste for now.
One of the my favourite places! If you love authentic and really strong pandan tasting pastries and kuih, this is the place to go. We got a variety of different pastries and all were made with high quality ingredients and packaged nicely. Taste was delicious! Not too sweet The owner/manager is super kind and they even provided some samples of their pandan chiffon cake. Store is clean, modern, and very welcoming. Staff and service are friendly. Will definitely be back
Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to this Southeast Asian bakery. It's been long overdue and so delicious. This location is on 9th Street between 1st and 2nd Ave. I custom ordered two cakes online (2-5 days in advance for full sized cakes) to pick up this past weekend. The Pandan Kaya Roll cake topped with coconut shavings was very delicate and light. The Ube Nian Gao was really delicious and bouncy not dense. The favorite: matcha tart and the pandan Panna Cotta.
Authentic pandan nian gao (cake). Luke from the bakery recommended the four flavors that almost always sellout each day and I’m so glad for the great recommendations. These reminded me of the traditional rice cake that we eat on Chinese new year day. Chewy texture of sticky rice cake, naturally sweet. South East Asian specialties, great for sharing and tasting with tea The interior is spotless, with sweet aroma of baked goods, the decor is welcoming.
Unique and otherwise hard to find Malaysian desserts in the middle of NYC! I tried the Vietnamese banh da lon, serimuka pandan, rainbow steamed cake, and baked pandan nian gao. Everything was excellent! I thought everything was a bit too sweet but my friends thought it was perfectly sweet and possibly not sweet enough for people who like sweeter desserts. There is no restroom in this cafe but they do have a few seats inside and several outdoor seats.
Lovely dessert shop! Some of the treats remained me of being in Malaysia or Vietnam. Want to leave a review to note there are a few vegan options for those that are plant-based and they are notated on the display cards. The woman working was kind and welcoming. Happy to enjoy the pandan layer cake in their outdoor seating. My nieces were excited for the rainbow cake because they studied the menu before and enjoyed it. I will definitely be returning!
Innovative desserts with incredible presentation!! The flavor of all the desserts here is just outstanding. This is a small shop with a stunning pastry case in East Village -- love that they have traditional Malaysian desserts, as well as baked pastries!! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area! Would recommend going earlier in the afternoon for the full selection, we visited around 5pm on a weekend and many items were sold out for the day.
Newly open southeast style dessert shop in east village NYC. Have you try kuih cake before? My personally like Kuih Lapis Rainbow (Rainbow Steamed Cake) the best. Sweet and chewy Passion fruit sesame cake, with passion fruit jam in the middle, great balance with the crispy sesame cracker! A very high end Southeast style desert, they have lots of choices like tiramisu, roll cake and panna cotta , will definitely come back for more desert
ig: thebakingredient Revisit❓: YES for pandan cakes Highlight ⭐️: 5/5 DELICIOUS pandan cakes and durian popsicle (even I’m not a super durian fan; it tests great)! I’ll definitely love to have them again. If you are looking for gluten-free dessert, give the pandan cakes a try Friendliness : 5/5 staff are super friendly and patient. : $3 (pandan cake) - $8 (cake slice) Cons: All the other desserts are little too sweet.
Top notch southeast Asian kuehs, but also incredibly delicious fusion pastries. I've been back over and over... And over and over... And everything I've tried has been fantastic. Everyone is great, too -- friendly and knowledgeable. I could eat the matcha-pandan tart all day and I live for the pandan Panna Cotta.. and the tiramisu.. and the black sesame passion fruit perfection... I think I have a Lady Wong addiction
Mmmmmm. Great place for desserts. I love everything here. The only thing that is a little bad is it does not have that much seating - 1 table 3 chairs. The service here is a little slow because customers have a hard time deciding on what to get. The desserts are really sweet and I came 2 days in a row because it is so good. Many people seem to like the lychee soda. I find it very good too. I recommend coming here.
Delicious desserts, beautiful presentation and unique flavors! This spot just opened and is already pretty popular, so be sure to go earlier in the day for their full selection. Vietnamese coffee tart was amazing, robust coffee flavor! The lychee red fruit was also very good - pretty sweet but it was a little bit tart (I think maybe there was also raspberry?). Will definitely be back to try more things!
Been going out of my way on my work commute to stop by here occasionally for a yummy treat, and what a yummy treat it is! Huge fan of their pandan latte, as well as all of their assorted baked goods. The mango sticky rice tart in particular goes CRAZY, can't recommend it enough. Service is always impeccable and the gentleman who works here is always extremely courteous and kind. 10/10 love it here.
This place has such interesting desserts and great service. My favorite was the pandan soufflé it truly was out of this world, not too sweet with toasted coconut crunch on top, the layered matcha pastry was nice! Not the biggest fan of the mango soufflé because it was more citrusy than expected, but the description does say citrus sponge. Highly recommend this place!
The Strawberry-Yuzu Mille Crepe cake has a light, tart, fresh taste. The crepe layers were airy and the yuzu cream & curd were sweet, tart, and citrusy. It was incredibly delicious. My one complaint is the strawberry flavor wasn't apparent. If you eat just the top layer, you get more tartness, but no strawberry. All in all a great cake!
Everything pandan is great here. All the SEA desserts are interesting and not as sweet, while the French inspired pastries met expectations with a twist of SEA ingredients. If you have a huge sweet tooth, go for the refine looking pastries, if you are like me, not super big fan of too much sugar, the kuih will be more in your alley!
There are a really nice selection of South East and East Asian inspired treats and pastries here. They are carefully crafted and aesthetically decorated. The sweets aren’t too sweet and because they do take a French or American pastry and make it with Asian ingredients like black sesame and pandan, it is refreshing to the palate.
We enjoyed multiple seri mukas while we were there. Our favorite was the durian fruit seria muka. Lattes and Cortados were also very good!

Beautiful, unique desserts...and extremely well priced. They taste as lovely as they look, as well. Loving the new pandan-everything SEA trend as well, and Lady Wong really leverages it effectively. Their pandan loaf cake was especially wonderful (the one that looks like a small slice of greenish banana bread)
Heaven for pandan lovers out there. First time going to Lady Wong and I tried: Onde Kaya Swiss Roll Pandan and Coconut Mousse Pandan Crepe Cake Matcha Pandan Tart Everything was really good! My personal favorites were the roll and the mousse. Can’t wait to go back again to try the pana cotta and tiramisu
We had the serimuka pandan, the Vietnamese banh da lon, the baked pandan rice cake, and this lychee cake. I enjoyed the lychee cake. The baked pandan rice cake was quite good, chewy, but a bit on the hard side. The serimuka pandan and Vietnamese banh da lon were both great but they do taste quite similar.
My first time trying it and love it! I preordered a cake the salted palm sugar caramel cake good for 6-8 servings and it was really flavorful and cute! Once I arrived of course i got more sweets: -steamed pandan -rainbow steam cake -cassava -Vietnamese banh da Lon. Would recommend!
Delicious kuih and pastries. My favorites are the Lapis, Serimuka, lychee red fruit dessert and the tiramisu with pandan custard and salted coconut cream. They serve Coffee Project coffee too which is great! Love the elegant aesthetic of the store, packaging and desserts.
The best kuih you can find in NYC. Not so sweet, great flavored and perfect texture. My favorite is serimuka. Their cakes also delicious, had Raspberry & Lychee and Salted Gula Melaka Cake, super good! Gonna go back soon to try their cassava cake and Hazelnut Royaltine
I’ve ordered 3 cakes from Lady Wong over the past year, and all three have been incredible. The thought put into every element of the cakes is so evident. They are always the perfect level of sweet, and the flavors are so unique. I love Lady Wong!
Dessert focused spot with creative flavors from Southeast Asia. There is no indoor seating and only about 3 bench stools outside so be aware you will probably be taking the items to go. Our favorites were the Calamansi passionfruit cake and
The baker/manager onsite really knew about culinary and specifically refined sugar! He specified which kuihs (only two) my husband could eat as he's got severe reactions to refined sugar (e.g. cane sugar). Those two kuihs they stick to the
I have tried a few items, including lady wong tiramisu, durian tiramisu, black sesame passion fruit cake, pandan matcha tart, grilled pandan cake and a couple of kuih. My favorite so far is the durian tiramisu. But overall, everything is a
My friend brought us a few desserts from Lady Wong, and they were so good I visited the shop a few days later. Loved everything we tried. Lady Wong does such an outstanding job of capturing the essence of passion fruit, lychee, mango, etc.
Beautiful little jewel box of a shop with friendly staff. Lots of gluten-free and dairy-free options within the traditional Kuih pastries which was perfect for me! Wish there were also a few gf df cake options because they looked amazing
I've been trying Lady Wong's goodies before the owners opened their brick and mortar shop and have recently ordered 2 cakes. Both the Calamansi/Passionfruit and the Pandan Pistachio were delicious and family+friends enjoyed them. Its not
I had such a pleasant shopping experience here today! The shop is cute and the staffs were so friendly. The lady cashier explained and introduced all the flavors patiently, which for someone like myself who knows nothing about SouthEast
Something most people may not know is they have a few incredible savory pastries - I love the puff with sardines and short rib. Super unique flavors. The rainbow cake is also delightful. It’s very gentle and creamy from the coconut!
Loved the pandan kuih. Beautiful interior of the store and friendly staff as well. They have a few stools outside if you want to eat your dessert right away too!
One of the dessert shop in the city. Serving a varierty of dishes like mango mousse, pandan panna cotta, nian gao and more. Each beautiful and delicious.
We really enjoy stopping by Lady Wong to try all the different desserts. The Pandan ones were probably my favorite flavor.
