As an audio beginner, I had a fantastic experience at Layton. I casually showed up during an afternoon and was kindly welcomed by Frank. I asked him a few questions about planar headphones and inquired about trying some headphones. As I learnt, they prefer if customers call in advance and make an appointment, but Frank had the time, so we discussed a bit, picked two headphones and a USB-C DAC, and went to one of the listening rooms. Frank gave me loads of information, never pressuring me to buy. We got a 2nd DAC for me to try after I had decided that the headphones I wanted were the Audeze LCD2-C. After some back & forth, I chose a DAC, asked Frank for a few other accessories and made my first big audio purchase. When getting Frank's advice, I felt like I was talking to a friend's uncle who had known me for 10 years, given the care he took to share his knowledge. After I had chosen the headphones, we even had a great conversation about espresso machines and mechanical watches before I left the store. After spending some time with the new headphones and DAC at home, I realized I had chosen the right headphones but the wrong DAC! So the next day, I returned to the store, where Frank exchanged the one I originally bought for the one I wanted. Thanks to Frank and the whole crew at Layton Audio for making me feel welcome as a beginner and introducing me to the world of hi-fi, as it can often be intimidating to step into a new hobby where technical words and acronyms are thrown around like everyone was born knowing them.

I've been here several times to buy earbuds over the past 4 years, and the products they stock are top notch at very competitive prices. I was looking at a particular pair online, came into the shop to try them out, and the price in store was identical to the price on Amazon. The manager is very passionate about audio, and knowledgeable about a wide array of products. He suggested a brand that I would likely not have found on my own, and these ended up being what I purchased. Shortly after walking out of the store and putting on some music, I discovered a problem with the pair I was sold. I returned and he replaced them, no questions asked. I'm very satisfied with the experience, and would suggest to anyone who has the option to go to a local brick-and-mortar audio specialty store like this as opposed to ordering online. You can try out the products on the spot, so you know exactly what you're getting. The sound you are looking for is a personal preference, and reading hundreds of online reviews will never replace actually listening to a pair of earbuds before buying them. Excellent store, highly recommended.

I had what must have been the worst retail experience ever with Layton Audio. I ordered a replacement wire for my Sennheiser headphones, as mine had worn wires near the jacks that fit into the phones. On the way home I noticed that the package had been opened, with the replacement damaged, so I can only assume I was given a returned pair by accident. As soon as I got home I called the store and was told to bring them back for a new pair. I was working night shifts on the other side of town at the time, so told them it might be a week or so before I could show up. The day I showed up, the guy that sold them to me told me it was *impossible* that he gave me the damaged pair. I tried to reason with him, but his condescending attitude and accusations persisted to the point where a yelling match ensued as he retreated to the back office. Who must have been the owner finally came out, and they refunded me, as they didn't have a replacement pair in stock. I left the store with suspicious eyes on me, and no apology. It was a demeaning and undeserved experience.

We went into this store looking for new speaker cable, and man in the store kindly took plenty of time with us, explaining to us the advantages and disadvantages, in a fairly neutral way, of the different types of wire. He also gave us tips on how to wire our apartment for sound, how to keep the cats away from the wire, and really tried to make sure he could help us. Being students, we were looking for an inexpensive option, and when he knew this, he directed us to their cheapest option without any judgement and actually encouraged us to use this (despite the fact that this surely meant a lower profit for his business). We left the store with a bill for about $23, taxes included, which probably amounted to a profit of about $10 for the store. He was kind and respectful the whole time, comfortably switched between French and English, and when we were done, shook our hands. As music students, we may be low on cash now, but in a few years when we need a new sound system (easily $800-1000), I know the first place we'll be looking.

I bought a pair of headphones for 80$, and took them with me travelling. The pair fell out the side of my bag when it was resting on the floor of the car. I put them back in the bag when I noticed--taking them out the next day, on of the cords and earphone was broken off. I emailed Layton to see if I could return the pair--I've been using headphones as long as anyone and never had a problem like this. It really appears to me that the headphones were faulty to be so fragile. They said there was nothing they could do besides send them back to the manufacturer. I find this unhelpful, especially the suggestion that they were damaged because "you dropped them". Layton will not see any future business from me and I recommend against buying from them.

I had to return my wireless headphones because it was under warranty last year in August and due to covid there was a delay in me getting a replacement. I used to call every month to check on the progress and the people who would answer the calls were extremely unhelpful and would not look into the delay. So after 6 months of waiting i basically gave up. Until I decided to call 1 last time and this person Sherly picked up the phone and said its highly unusual I have not received my headsets for so long and actually looked into the delay and was super helpful when compared to the previous people who answered the phone. And now I have finally received my replacement headphones. Thanks to Sherly!!!

I'm so glad I stopped here instead of purchasing headphones online. I had some of the best customer service in months. The man who helped me, possibly the owner, was extremely knowledgeable about his products and thought me so much about headphones. I spent about 30-40 minutes there trying on different headphones and listening to his recommendations. I found the perfect headphones, which I never came across online, because he suggested headphones depending on what I needed. I'm so happy with my purchase and I'll be returning next time I need another pair. You reminded me why I love to shop in store rather than online. It was such an enjoyable shopping experience. Thank you for your help!

Dropped by to demo their selection of headphones and see if any of them were worth upgrading from my current setup. They have a great selection on the wall that you can self-serve, and you could ask someone to open the cases if you wanted to test the high end gear. The staff member that helped me (sorry I didn't catch your name!) was very kind, helpful, and friendly. He was also very knowledgeable and I was pleasantly surprised by some headphones he recommended for my preferences. If I didn't live in Toronto I would have bought a pair of the Hifimans, since they do service them. I will definitely be coming back when I figure out which pair to buy.

  • Richard Yanaky

They were friendly, but they wanted to sell a tiny audio cable to me for $40! I can get that online for 10. I don’t know what to say… come on, guys!! That was absolutely ridiculous. Edit in response to owner: Their response here is completely counter to the in-store experience. If you scan the other reviews, other people are reporting similar. Pure price gouging, hiding behind feigned (or actual?) ignorance. My review stands as-is. Do your homework online before coming here. Disappointing. If they're as accommodating as they say they are, they would have done it in person the first time, rather than in response to a poor public review.

This place is amazing!!!! I bought a pair of AKG NC headphones from them in April of 2015 while we were vacationing in Montreal. They had just broke so I contacted Harman Support and I need a receipt of the proof of purchase, which I no longer had. I contacted the store by tracking them down from my credit card statement and Daniel, I assume an employee at the store, asked me the date of purchase and I told him. He said to give him 5 min and he found it and sent it to me via email in about 5 min!!! This is service that you don't see anymore and I hope Daniel knows that I really appreciate what he did for me!!

My headphones jack recently busted on me after 3 years, I was really bummed because my headphones are unique and I didn't want to throw them away. I didn't know headphone repairs where possible. After a quick google search and email to Layton Audio, I left my headphones there to be repaired. So happy I found this place!! I was lucky enough to have them repaired in 24 hours. Before repair I was told my MIC wouldn't work anymore, which was okay with me since I barley used it. My headphones are working again! And I am one very happy customer! Big thanks to everyone at Layton, very friendly staff!

  • Roberto Dupre

Absolutely the best audio shopping experience I've ever had. Incredibly knowledgeable and flexible staff, never tried to upsell me, and made great recommendations based on my price range. The inventory is also incredibly for personal audio compared to other places I've been, had basically everything I could ever want. And most importantly, there were genuinely good deals that I couldn't get anywhere else. Ended up paying $300 for a perfect portable setup, which would have cost $375 somewhere else. If you're into home or personal audio, I 100% recommend Layton Audio!

  • Daniel Kim

I was here a few months ago, and when I entered the store, I was afraid I might be asked to leave for spending so much time without buying anything. Instead, the owner took me aside and so willingly shared his love for headphones and music. He allowed me to try on all kinds of headphones and even opened the locked case of very nice (expensive) headphones and let me try those as well. For someone who knew very little about headphones and hifi, he provided such a special experience. I regret not buying anything then, but I would give Layton Audio an 11/10!

  • Kelsey Powell

I was only in Layton Audio very briefly to replace a cable on my Sennheiser headphones, but the service was courteous and helpful and the store itself seemed nice. They had a good selection of mid-level to high-end headphone brands. Also noticed that they had turntable maintenance supplies, which was a neat find--I've noticed many places seem to sell turntables but none of the maintenance equipment. Overall, nice little store, worth a visit if you're shopping for audio equipment or need an emergency replacement like I did.

Bought an item online, and there was a small delay in shipping. I was a bit worried since I was leaving the country next week, and needed my item before flying out. Called in to make sure there wasn’t any problems, and Sheldon went above and beyond to help! He told me he’d personally handle the process to make sure I got my item before my flight. Customer service is amazing here, I’ll be recommending this place to my friends for all of the auditory needs. Thanks again Sheldon!

  • Dave Pascoal

These guys had a receiver (Yamaha R-N602) listed on their website that I couldn’t find anywhere else. I called to confirm they really had it and the person who handled the call was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. He gave me tips on how to properly order and when I called back ten minutes later, he confirmed the order was sent. I got my receiver in three business days and I live in a different province. Thanks Layton!

  • Rap2kUSA

Never trust a seller... Bought some new bluetooth speakers since "this new model is really great !", and since it worked only a few weeks I returned then. and again. and again. Then warranty expired (because of who?) and "nothing they can do". Google "S3-BT" to see they never worked. So the seller did not sell others and didn't fix mine. So much time wasted and I never get scammed so I'm still mad at them.

Denon AH-D2000, Sennheiser HD202, RHA T10i, RHA T20, Shure SE 215, every time the right product for me, they select products, they know them, their qualities and who will love them, and I have never been deceived by Layton Audio since I live in Montréal. Notice that many of these products are not pricey, some were very affordable, incredible value for money! PS: 2 month later, now a Momentum too!

  • Abhinav Prakash

Extremely overpriced. At least 60% more expensive than amazon. I wanted a 3.5 mm to RCA convertor. The sales guy kept trying to sell me a 45 dollar unit. The lowest one was even priced at 18 (amazon has for 10). Also I am in market for a subwoofer. So they tried convincing me a $1300 sub from paradigm is only one worth buying. Yeah , cause commissions so why not, right?

  • John Christie

Because Layton Audio didn’t have and could no longer get the Paradigm speakers that I had ordered and paid for they quickly refunded my money and to make it right offered a great deal on the newer model. I wasn’t sure it was a great deal but I wanted the speaks so I ordered them. They arrived quickly and cost me 40% less than in our best local audio store. Thanks guys.

  • Christopher Skotarczyk

Great place for audio equipment. I bought some headphones recently. The staff (Jacques and another guy whose nane I can't remember) was really helpful, passionate, and seemed honest. They let you take your time trying all the different headphones without pushing their products on you. All while answering your questions. Thanks guys.

  • Fl Tremblay

Lied on the replacabilty of a broken parts (cartridge needle), sold me another cartridge and tried to sell 10$ above the tag price. Told me the mistake was actually on the tag and I was lucky to get it this cheap. Turns out, was also a lie. The tag price was the same as price on their web site. All within 15 min. Impressive...

  • Amin Ghanbari

Very kind, helpful and knowledgeable team!! Mr. Sheldon guided me through what is perfect for my needs and at the end created/invented a handle for my speakers box so it is easier for me to carry which was very nice. They go the extra mile for their customers and care a lot about them. Thanks for everything!

  • Jf Marcoux

The sales associates know their stuff more than any other major electronic store, if you're looking for high end audio equipment sold by people who know what they are talking about, Layton Audio is the place to go! After being shown a ton of models, I went with the Senheiser PXC 550 and they are amazing!

  • Jordan Peirce

I would definitely recommend this place. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and not pushy. They really know their audio. They’re very helpful and take the time to ensure you understand the product. One of my better customer experiences of late. If you’re looking at spending $$$$ on audio, check them out!

  • Bryan Gromadzki

Fantastic customer service. I found momentum 3's as a gift for my dad while searching online, staff were super attentive and went above and beyond to help me secure the last pair for a great price when there was an issue with the order that was totally on me. Highly recommend!

  • Anmol Joneja

Great place for serious hifi equipment. I met Nate, and he certainly knew his stuff. During covid you need to book a slot in advance if you want to demo stuff and it's max 2 people at a time in the room, so if you're looking at trying out something be sure to call ahead.

  • Richard Bonin

Amazing shopping experience...I walked out of their shop with headphones (2 pairs) and excellent knowledge of what I purchased. Thanks for all the information and tips given to me by their great staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for quality audio products.

  • Dennis V

If I could give 6 stars I would! Great advice, not pushy at all. I got the TV and sound system that I actually needed for less than Best Buy, AND they spent 45 minutes fixing my turntable at no extra cost! I will definately be back. Thanks guys!

  • Conner Morgan

It’s the best place in town to get audio stuff. The guys take their time to help you get the right thing. I never feel upsold, and the prices are pretty comparable to big box stores. Everyone complains that stores like this, full of experts

  • Randy Spriggs

Came in tonight to buy a AQ Dragon Fly Red. The two clerks were friendly , addressed my concerns and asked the right questions. These people are clearly passionate about audio and it shows instead of the type of service you get at a big box.

  • Denise L

I had been looking at the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 3 for a while. I was going nuts looking at the reviews online. And after a bad experience with Bose earbuds I got online, I was worried about active noise cancellation causing nausea,

  • Romanticsman

This is the best place to get expert advice on sound systems and anything to do with Hi-fi audio. The manager, Jacques is honest and very knowledgeable about audio. The staff is friendly and professional. I have been a customer here since

  • Jie Chen

Spend almost a grand on a set of Tivoli radios and speakers. Realized at home that one of the audio cables was defective and they refused to exchange the cable when i went back to the store or give me a replacement, stating that i had to

  • Ali Zed

More than ten times to this store, and still like it even though sometimes a couple of owner/salesmen are not as friendly as always. The Colombian young guy is knowledgeable and has helped me with technical information about headphones,

  • Frédérick Charette

Bought a pair of expensive Sennheiser in-ear headphones as a gift to my daughter. A month later, one ear stopped playing. It happens. Took it back to Layton Audio, who dutifully filled a repair coupon to send back to the manufacturer,

  • None of Your Business

Rude staff of supposed audiophiles who's knowledge of audio both portable and home audio and visual equipment is woefully out of date. The selection is also limited and overpriced. Older sales guy didn't believe me when I told them

  • Mike G

One of the best buying experiences I've ever had. Nectar is the man, extremely knowledgeable and helped me pick out exactly what I was looking for. Be sure to check out Layton Audio for all your audiophile needs. Much love

  • Emilio Kiskiras

My go to place for anything audio. The sky the limit here. Very knowledgeable staff and great product selection. If not in stock they will order it and get it by a week or so. I bought many things there.

Great staff! They are passionate about what they do, one employee spent 30 minutes with me so I could find the speakers I liked the most. Purchased amp+speakers today and couldn't be any happier!

  • Jean-Francois Corbeil

Bought there, father did. Came in with new bt headphones from a brand they used to carry. Too tight. Daniel saved me from buying a new pair by showing me a simple trick. They know their stuff. tx

  • Hannah Harper-Merrett

Friendly service, but I should have done my homework! … they charged me 19.95 for a simple Apple adapter I could have picked up two blocks away for 10.00. That’s quite the markup!

  • Dominic Jaar

Jean Paul is a turn tables maestro! He soldered my SME 3009 Series III wires perfectly within minutes and sold me a great new cartridge. Plays like magic! I'll be back! Thanks!

  • Samuel K.

Not sure who helped me, but their suggestion was actually the cheaper of the two options and ended up working. Great service!
