It is a wonderful station; especially because of the Hitchcock mosaics! Lots of character in the local neighborhood and with several independent shops, along with the ubiquitous chains, it is a great place to visit outside of very touristy Zones 1 and 2. If you take the 257 bus from Leytonstone to Stratford, on the right hand side on the bus right after Leytonstone Fire Station bus stop, is a building with birds painted all over it in honor of Sir Alfred's birthplace. That is noted by the Blue Plaque in the petrol station directly across the street from the birds building. Such a shame that his birthplace wasn't saved and turned into a museum of his incredible life and extraordinary movies but I don't know when it was demolished or if it could even have been saved. It might have even been destroyed when the Germans bombed the area during the war as several buildings were in the local area. Does anyone know when his house was demolished??
Quick Central Line Tube Service takes you in 10-15 munites to London Zone 1, Oxford Street or City (Bank, Monument, St Paul, Liverpool street). Ideal! Cheap tube tickets. There are many buses stop outside of station. Also I like that next to station there are many nice shops, cozy lovely cafés (gluten free, Goose, All You Read is Love, Costa, etc), historical pubs, attractive Victotian bit of High Street (High Road Leytonstone): on exiting turn left into a corridor tunnel towards beautiful St John church. There is Mcdonalds and huge Tesco supermarket just 5-10 minutes walk from station. There are mosaics from Alfred Hichcock movies at the station. Also within short walk from a station (look for Kebabish cafe) there are amazing painted building walls
There is never anyone there. Today I issues with my oyster card, it is fully topped up and the gates still do not open, help call point is not working and there is no one there available to assist. I tried knocking on the information window form more then one time and still no assistance. At the end had to use my contacless card, even though I have a valid travel card on my oyster. Very disappointing considering that the travel is not cheap as it is.
A relatively large tube station given how far outside of London it is. It offers good access to all sections of the line, and is easily accessible due to the large number of bus route converging at the station. Parking is easy enough, however be prepared for a long walk if the car park is full - the surrounding roads are all permitted from 9am-6pm.
After visiting Selfridge’s and liberty house coming from Bonn Street I thought I Write a small piece about Leytonstone station. Lovely little station. Quite busy mind you. But here is a few pictures showing me waiting for my train. Need to be careful which direction the train is going it goes to different ways from this point.
By far the worst train station for information, accurate timetables, weather conditions, ease of access and general attitude to customers. When it rains heavily the station has had to shut down before. There's no lift access and the next train going into London is absolutely never displayed correctly.
Double sided station with bus connections at both entrances. Unique in having Alfred Hitchcock mosaics on the walls. Shops inside. Car Parking. Serving a wide community. Some great places to eat nearby. Busy shopping centre. Multi west going platforms as two Central line branches join here.
I loved the tiled art work in the walk ways .. tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. They're really really amazing. I want to commission the artist myself ! Exits could be signed a little better -but ubguess thats what the art is for. Totally amazed .. hidden gem for an art walk?!
This Central Line station is an important hub as eastward trains divert after this stop. Station has wonderful Mural of Sir Alfred Hitchcock’s work. Sir Alfred Hitchcock was born in Leytonstone and arguably the most famous person from this area.
Six Hainault trains and a ridiculously long wait for an Epping train. This station I swear crosses a temporal rift come the evening where time literally ceases to exist. Except it doesn't, you just might die of boredom while you're waiting.
A vibrant warm area to visit or reside in. Lots of cafe's and bistros surrounding the train and bus station. A decent mix of cultures live here . I have lived here for over a decade & have always been happy with Leytonstones atmosphere.
Morning trains never on time. Running completely different times than it says on their website. Instead of every 10 min it’s 30 min. Very unorganised and unreliable! Shame to charge people so much for such a little service!
Very nice place. There are a few pubs, cafes, restaurants, a library with modern facilities, a shop selling natural products, a Matalan shop, a big TESCO, a Pound Shop, charity shops and a Mac Donald.
A quiet and tranquil area suitable for busy workers to end the day to home. Suggest no beggars are allowed to beg on streets. Not a safe place at night. Drug street selling at night.
It is surrounded by trees and green spaces and a very homely comfortable place to be,. Not the station but the place itself. Station not too bad. Helpful staff.
Line meets 2 at Leytonstone. So westbound trains are more frequent. Also sits in two zones 3 and 4 which makes tickets touch cheaper depending on destination.
As a huge Hitchcock fan, I love Leytonstone station - mosaics from many of his films are brilliant, some of the most overlooked work this end of London!
Seems to be an okay tube station with basic facilities and staffing that you expect at a place of this size. I didn't notice any step free access here
This area is calm, friendly and easy. The vibe is family knitted and i"ve yet to experience any unpleasent people. Everyone keeps to themselves
Great down-to-earth station. This peaceful place welcomes all the diverse people families and children of the world ️ …
Well done tfl the station entrance is closed, thanks for letting people know its not closed , the usual tfl incompetence.
Dodgy area. To go at. Night, daytime it is quite and nice with lots of places to go
Lovely station with cafés and shops surrounding it as well as some inside.
Wonderful place worth visiting. If you like classical cinema . . . . . .
Leytonstone is just Leytonstone. Not Walthamstow or Chingford
Tesco is here...you get all the stuff including medicines
It's a great place there are central line train station
Would leave 6 stars if I could. Marvelous mosaics!
