Local Point is a cafeteria styled diner with six food booths- The Big, Custom, and Global Kitchens, Deli (make your own sandwich), Grill (burgers), and Pagliaccis (Pizza place). If you're living on West campus, you will primarily eat here. On pricing, pizzas cost 2.75 to 4.00, the burger ~5.25, the Sandwich 6.20, and dishes from the remaining kitchens cost 5.50-8.50. If eating lunch and dinner at LP, a Level 3 or 4 plan should get you comfortably through the quarter. It should be noted that LP is cheaper than competing solutions on the Ave which cost from 5.50 and 10.50 per dish. Local Point rotates dishes on a weekly basis. While its great for predictability, it has problems. Pagliacci (four pizzas varieties- cheese, pepperoncini, a vegetable/ meat, and a primo), the Deli (its a subway, there are only so many varieties you can try), and the Grill (has only one vegetarian option) don't change their dishes. The custom kitchen makes pasta every afternoon, leaving two counters with varying dishes. If its Black History Month, the Global Kitchen won't make vegetarian food, so you're left with only one counter and if this one counter makes a dish you don't like (for instance, I dislike the vegetable rice dish), you're stuck for not eating/ eating food you really dislike during lunch for a week, while having only two counters to really chose from for dinner. Its ironic, the reason I increased my dining account level after my first quarter was because I had a sense of excitement as I entered Local Point to find out what new dish was prepared when a new dish was being introduced each day; this, has now sadly been replaced with fear or dread of a dish I don't like greeting me on Mondays that I may be stuck with for seven days. Local Point is primarily run by students with the exception of the preparation of dishes which is handled by culinary professionals. This supports the student community who get part time jobs, but it also brings me to one of the biggest gripes about Local Point, more specifically, the Deli- inconsistency. Students preparing the sandwiches do so very differently- with sometimes applying too little and sometimes way too much of a spreading. On the nine-grain, the excessive spread passes through the actual bread and disintegrates when raised to eat, making a mess, while other times, when prepared in haste, there may be an excess of onions which overpowers every other spread/ topping in the sandwich, making a rather unpleasant eating experience. On another note- service hours. While breakfast and lunch aren't a problem, dinner most definitely is if studying late. Dinner starts being served at 5:00PM and is gradually phased out between 8:00PM and 8:30PM. If studying for an exam you will be eating pizza for dinner (open till 11PM). On this note- if you're an international student and are staying on campus for the holidays, LP shuts down completely- you cannot even enter it during the breaks. Aside from being unable to get prepared food which you have come to expect from your Dining Account plan, you have only two options- go to the District Market where you can use you dining account plan to purchase ingredients to cook for yourself, or go to the Ave which doesn't work on the Dining account plan and requires money. Albeit I'm harsh on LP in this review, I believe most of this anger comes from the high expectations that were set on them in my first quarter here at the University- the food here is good and still is amazing, and I would argue is a really good value over food from the Ave if not tastier and seemingly healthier; however, with the phasing out of new dishes after my first quarter, I began to dread going to LP from looking forward to it. They have great cooks, and really support the students on campus by having almost all their posts run by students, while making amazing food, and I really hope to see my first quarters honeymoon period with LP again.

The deli is the worst imitation subway ever- 1> ask for gluten free -> get asked if actually alergic -> proceeds to not change gloves and handle bread -> contaminates loaf of bread (just because I'm not gluten free doesn't mean others aren't) 2> ask for avocado spread -> proceed to apply too much spread -> buy sandwich -> sandwich melts in hand when raised 3> ask for lettuce -> get four layers of lettuce with two sticking over two inches from the border of the bread 4> buys sandwich -> doesn't put toothpick on -> top half of sandwich falls off when leaving 5> cannot eat cheese -> 2.10$ for 4 small pieces of tofu or two paper thin pieces of vegan meat -> ask if can substitute cheese with more protein -> told no (2.10$ (w/ tax) seems a bit expensive for 4 pieces of tofu, doesn't it?) 6> like siriachi and sweet chili as dips -> no sweet chili on weekends (only two bottles circulating whole diner on weekdays)

Foods overpriced, over/undercooked, and generally bland and tasteless. Employees can be rude at times or generally unknowledgeable, but they're students who often haven't worked the job before so I understand it's just frustrating. They have an "all you can eat" during the summer when you come in for orientation, but they never mention that it switches back to regular retail during the school year so it seems like false advertising to freshman leaving their home for the first time. I'm a freshman and by week 5 I'm already tired of this place, your money would be better spent anywhere on the ave - that is, if they didn't require you to have a dining account if you live in the dorms, as to have a captive market. Needless to say that I won't be coming here after I move out Winter quarter.

Local point is overhated for a school cafeteria. They are always cheap have a lot of variety to choose from. There are dishes that you can’t go wrong with, such as the pasta from big kitchen, or the Italian club/toasted cheese and soup from the deli. Pagliacci and dub street are also really consistent with their quality, although service depends on the student workers so it might be bad. They have started to charge for drinks unless you have a $1000+ dining plan which is an unwelcome change. Avoid eggs here, they often cause stomach issues.

If you are looking to eat here daily, think again. The food out here is substandard and the menu and quality requires a complete revamp. Current students currently are frustrated with the quality and variety of food. Breakfast, Pizzas, Sandwiches, Salads and Burgers are served daily with two counters different food items daily. However this food is usually not enjoyed by students and goes to waste. The lack of good vegetarian options seems to be causing a lot of distress to students as well. A plus point though is the ambience which is really great. A variety of seating options are available.

Fruit bar never seems to change. Some of the grapes are shriveled up and do not have a good taste, and sometimes the watermelon are mushy. They always have plain burgers with cheese, which never changes. They always have fries and fried chicken. Their menu never seems to change much. The fruit bar does not seem to change much. Even though the food is all out can eat, other restaurants in University Avenue will fill you up just as well and the selection is better. The food after a while is not delicious. Dinner is especially expensive and I recommend a restaurant on University Avenue.

Salad bar used to be a good deal. Now prices have been raised. Floor layout very bad for a cafeteria serving large numbers of students. Waiting lines back across traffic lanes. There are pinch points everywhere. You have to fight your way to the bussing area. Once there, there is no flow path so everyone jams up trying to get in or out.

With breakfast cinnamon rolls with over 40 grams of sugar (DV ~31grams), Au Gratin potatoes for lunch containing 29grams, or about a 150% over your DV, and dinner Mac & Cheeses with 300mg, or 125% of your DV, LocalPoint represents a diabetic, cholesterol infused heart attack fueled by hypertension just waiting to happen. There's no way to check this information easily right now aside from going through multiple 5 year old documents on their website, with them often not including vegetarian counterparts of dishes or sometimes dishes all together!

Yummy food inexpensive option for the UW area. Although this place is focused on students, it's open to the general public as long as you have a major credit card to pay (they don't take cash). I had a build your own sandwich for $7.50, and the timid student workers made me just what I asked for, no matter how strange it sounded. Other features of note: a microwave oven available for use by anyone, and plenty of seating- great if you bring your lunch from home and need somewhere to heat it up and eat it.

I've heard of people getting stomachaches for eating salads here, and raw chicken horror stories. Personally I once waited 20 minutes for a burger, and have yet to have a meal that I actually enjoyed. This place exemplifies eating for sustenance over eating for pleasure. Plus the prices are rather high, the panda express-esque place serves smaller portions for higher prices and a most meals cost 7.99 but are usually small quantity. My dislike for this place has led me to become a better cook.

  • Jaden Swope

Small portions and expensive. But there are lots of options, healthy meals, vegan/vegetarian options. However the lines and wait times are ridiculously long. Come with lots of patience and don't be in a hurry, avoid changing any menu items in anyway, most staff don't speak English here. If you're a prospective student, there are much better food options than this dining hall, do your research. If you don't have a dining plan with UW it makes no sense to eat here, you'll just pay too much.

At this point the only restaurant I will eat at here is Dub street burgers. The only reason (and this saddens me) I will not eat at other restaurants here is that the employees so obviously break a lot of food safety rules. They dont change their gloves between orders, and they are very unclean in other areas as well. The burgers are good, but if you want extra of a topping or any specifications you have to make sure they get your order right because they often will not.

Local Point is the worst if you have food allergies or restrictions. Lack of options. Even the personalized allergy-friendly meals made by the chefs sometimes contain allergens, not to mention that these meals are not made on time due to forgetfulness. And it is so hard to ask employees about the ingredients in some foods because they just don't know. For non-allergy folks, it's dorm-level quality, nothing great. Would not recommend.

In my view it's pure dishonesty that the price for weekdays lunch went straight up from $8.5 to $13.5. it makes no economic sense unless we are talking inflation rates like that happened in Zimbabwe. Food is fine. It used to be a great place to eat that we grad students would look fwd to reopen every year. Such a disappointment. I'm not going to eat here this year for the second time. Its my wish that more people do the same.

  • Kai Zzer

During the Summer it's better. I came with a UW program and had all my food paid for. Compared to The 8, LP has more selections and no slop. At the 8, they have a long line with just two people slopping food onto your plate, here you can grab it yourself. Also, bigger and brighter( the 8 is downstairs with no natural light). Expensive if your not being paid for though. Worth tho 8/8.

  • Parmandeep Kaur

amazing!! 5 stars!!! employees uphold Spongebob’s “fine dining and breathing” motto. I am a big fan of undercooked rice and this place delivers. food is made with love and confusion. sarcasm aside, employees are sweet and they do their best. food is okay, give the workers some slack because they’re most likely students who have never worked in the food industry before.

  • Holly Merrill

Everyone knows not to expect much from cafeteria food, but local point has reached a new low. The food doesn't even pretend to be palatable and the options are limited. It feels like the kids menu at Chucky Cheese. The only upside is the seating area is spacious and airy with large windows facing the street. Overall, it is below average, even for a cafeteria.

  • Coruptxz

Horrible food. HFS does not deserve a single cent for the quality of food they are serving. It's way too overpriced. They try and incorporate global cuisine but it ends up depressing and not good. Even with low effort dishes like salads, you get the occasional protein of dead / alive bugs!

It’s “All You Care to Eat”. The problem is, the food quality is poor and you won’t want to eat much at all. It’s expensive because it’s buffet style, but they pull a fast one on you by serving subpar food. There are also fewer options available for dinner than lunch, even though dinner is quite a bit more expensive… How do you explain that?

  • Jeffrey Wang

Today is the fifth time I've asked for honey mustard on my sandwich and was given dijon mustard instead. That is like a 50% fail rate. As always, I did not realize until I had returned to my room. Please teach the deli workers how to differentiate the 2 mustards because I absolutely hate dijon mustard.

  • Adam Das

4 star in general for taste but 5 star for the stuff you get for the price. Unlimited lunch buffet for $13. Pizza, pasta, tortilla bowl, burger (not good), fried chicken, fries, grilled cheese sandwich, salad bar with lots of selections, fresh fruits, yogurt, desserts and fountain drinks!

  • Ryan Shapero

The food isnt too bad, just over priced. I just despise the feeling of coming after my classes and discovering that because it is 2:15, lunch is over and dinner hasnt started so I literally cant get food other than a salad.

Feels unclean. Seating is weird. Food is on the low side of mediocre bordering gross and way overpriced. Only redeeming quality is a huge salad bar that is a solid meal when you're too lazy to go anywhere else. Only reason I'd ever eat here is because I live in Lander.

  • David Carli-Arnold

Local Point has several different places and styles of food. It's nice, especially if you need to use your UW dining plan, but honestly the food isn't great. However, over the summer is all you can eat, which makes this place a very good value.

  • Robert J. House

Great place to hang out while studying on the weekends too although I was there to work in the kitchen. I bought some lunch and was great food too. There is even Piggalions pizza there as well. Improperly spelled I'm sure.

  • Brian lusby

Been coming here for years while at UW. Quality is consistently ehh and has been for 8 years now. I wouldn’t recommend unless you have to go.

the vegan options are either inaccurate or consistently running out by 7pm(many major dining options only open at 5). The other food seems pretty good, unless you're used to fancy food, you may not like the options.

  • Anthony Washington

Disappointed. The Dub Burger is not the same as it was a few years ago. Tater tots were good though. I want a fresh burger and instead I got a precooked burger thrown back on the grill in order to melt the cheese.

  • Ailis Murray

i got the scrambled eggs. they were pretty bad but when i was about to leave, they sprouted legs and walked away. it was kinda awesome actually. i recommend the eggs. not for eating but for observing.

  • Tristin

Great location. Has a little bit of everything. The hours are very accommodating. The only down side is the quality of food. It's definitely not bad, but its not exactly what I'd call "great".

  • kiralouwho

The perfect place for UW students to eat, meet with friends, and study. A variety of food types with vegetarian and vegan options. Prices are a little high but the food is still good quality.

  • Simola Nayak

Turkey burger from DUB Street Burgers was undercooked and I saw the unpleasant but expected effects a day later after eating it halfway. The star is for having a variety of seating options.

  • Tyler Wallace

Overpriced and tastes horrible. As bad as high school lunch. Can’t believe you are required to get dining credit and this is the type of food they serve. Scam.

The price is definitely nice and cheap, think a meal around $7, but its just a step or two above cafeteria food. I would recommend it for a quick cheap meal but nothing substantial.

  • Daniel Mar

Sometimes the big kitchen will have good things. The Pagliacci pizza is much worse than other Pagliacci locations. The mini corndogs are good and affordable at the late night grill.

  • Ethan Do

The food here slaps! The filet mignon was a perfect medium rare and the scallops were lovely. Would eat again. Eager to try their king crab next time with a side of truffle fries.

  • Connor Tee

4th star entirely due to Pagliacci, which is totally up to the excellent standards of the chain. The rest is fine. Proximity to campus housing is nice. Ebtkrly too expensive.

  • Fresh Marcent

they decided to make proportions the size of an elementary kid's lunch money. Terrible service, I would rather go to McDonalds than this dump, never thought i would say that.

  • Connor Garrett

As yes, Local Point. I've been eating here for 3 years. Most of the time it's decent or even great! It's still a university dining hall though, so you get what you expect.

  • Roseann Berg

Staff is attentive to GF options, menus and signage was clear for those with food allergies. Impossible to pay, was very chaotic to even try to get a cup for coffee.

  • William Cao

Fairly large variety. Prices are a tad bit higher than I would like. The food doesn't taste exceptionally great as well. However, there is a lot of seating.

  • Shane Squire

I can't complain about the quality of the food at it's price. Excellent quality and variety for the price. The hours of operation are less than outstanding.

  • Liam Jordan

I wish there were more healthy options for food here. Nonetheless, the chicken tenders are one of the best rubberized food products I've consumed

  • charles marshall

This place is only worth going to during summer quarter when they have all you can eat. The rest of the year it's just overpriced cafeteria food.

Very nice foodhall in an old train station. Many options to choose from, to keep everyone in the group happy - highly recommend this area

  • Jackson Marcotte

Waited almost 20 minutes for one sandwich because staff have bad order management. Dub street burgers. Good food, need better staff.

  • James Wang

It's decent for a school dining facility. Food is alright, but it is slightly overpriced and selection is limited

  • AyeitsvincentRBX

It’s absolutely horrible. The food is so expensive and the taste is not worth the price.
