A Captivating Journey into Modern Art - Los Angeles County museum of Contemporary Art I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Los Angeles County Contemporary Art Museum, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. As an art enthusiast, I was eagerly looking forward to exploring the contemporary art scene in one of the world's most vibrant cities, and this museum did not disappoint. Upon arrival, I was struck by the museum's impressive architecture, a seamless blend of modern design with the surrounding landscape. The spacious and airy galleries provided the perfect backdrop for the captivating artworks on display. The curators have done an outstanding job of curating a diverse and thought-provoking collection, showcasing works from both established artists and rising talents. The range of artistic expressions found here is remarkable. From abstract paintings that ignite the imagination to innovative sculptures that challenge conventional norms, each exhibit provided a unique perspective on contemporary culture and society. I was particularly moved by the thought-provoking installations that tackled pressing global issues, leaving me with a profound sense of introspection. The museum's interactive approach was refreshing and added an extra layer of engagement to the visit. Digital displays and audio guides offered valuable insights into the artists' intentions and creative processes, enriching the overall experience. The staff at the Los Angeles County Contemporary Art Museum were warm, knowledgeable, and ever-willing to assist, which further enhanced my visit. Their passion for art was evident as they shared fascinating anecdotes and answered my questions with enthusiasm. Moreover, the museum's commitment to community outreach and education was evident through its various programs, workshops, and guided tours for students and art enthusiasts alike. It's inspiring to see an institution so dedicated to fostering creativity and nurturing the next generation of artists. I must also commend the museum's convenient location, nestled within the heart of Los Angeles. Easy access and ample parking facilities made it hassle-free to reach and explore. In conclusion, my visit to the Los Angeles County Contemporary Art Museum was nothing short of extraordinary. Whether you're an art aficionado or just curious about contemporary art, this museum promises an unforgettable journey into the realm of creativity. I can't recommend it enough and will undoubtedly be returning soon to immerse myself in its ever-evolving exhibits.

I heard about these lights and seen photos in social media, they called it “Urban Lights.” So when we were out and about in LA we went to see them. To some it may just be a bunch of lamp post but to me it’s a beautiful street display. You can take a great photo wherever you stand and to me every angle is great! Day or night you can produce an awesome photo. When I was here there were people taking graduation photos. If you come at the right time without anyone here, you can probably take wedding photographs (that is an assumption). Anyway, if you’re in LA and looking for a little photo spot this is one to go to. These lights is outside next to Los Angeles museum. I don’t think they are connected. There is no fee to look at these light or to take photos at the site. But I do know there is a fee to get in to the museum. We didn’t do the museum, because we came near closing time. Also we parked on the street, there were meter parking on the side where we parked, we were lucky to find one. The only negative is there could be a lot of people at times so you just have to find your photo “spot.”

  • Pleng Pimchanok

Arrived at 4:50 PM. They close at 6PM. Paid 21$ for parking. The most expensive parking fee I’ve ever paid. Paid another 25$ for the entrance fee to see everything within an hour (noted we were aware of the time) Were the security people forced to be here? They looked so miserable. The old guy on the 3rd floor entry basically told me off when I tried to use the elevator and gave us the stink eyes the entire time. He ruined the experience for me. I mean we spent 71$ to be there for an hour and couldn’t even enjoy art peacefully without feeling like some people don’t want us to be there. This will be my last time here. Never had a negative experience like this at The Broad or The Getty or any other museums. Please treat your visitors better.

I love LACMA and the exhibits they always have there but this time, I was there for Friday night Jazz series. I did not know what to expect going to the event as it was my first time. Street parking which is the cheapest is almost impossible to find so you're better off just paying the $17 for parking. It's expensive but that's the best option. The Jazz night was really nice! The Los Angeles Jazz Orchestra was amazing. The music was a vibe and the crowd was great! Everyone was having a great time and there were families there with kids. It was an event for all. There are chairs set up up close where the orchestra is playing and then on the grassy area, people and families set up their own picnics and bring blankets to enjoy the evening. There were a couple of food trucks and a wine bar if you're hungry or thirsty.

  • York Jr. Seaton

This place is great. Street parking is pretty cheap and I think it goes up to 4 hours. I definitely want to stay longer next time. I plan to make a day trip out of this; 1 hour was not enough. Bring a magnifying glass cause they won't allow you to get too close to the pictures. As an artist/illustrator, I like to get close.to the paintings to see if I can learn. I'm more of a painting and illustration person; right now (Dec 2023) there's a lot of contemporary art in the industrial design and fabric design department which is cool. They do have some color abstractions if you're into that. They also have a few Josef and Anni Albers pieces if you like color theory and head scratching puzzles. They also have Tar Pits outside.

LACMA is a one of the most popular museums in LA or area. It is a world-class art museum with a vast and diverse collection of objects from around the globe so there is something for everyone. LACMA also has a number of notable sculptures, including Chris Burden's Urban Light (the most famous :)) and Michael Heizer's Levitated Mass. The museum is located in a beautiful setting and the architecture is stunning. It is a great place to spend a day with friends or family (with or without kids). Parking is plenty with $21 fee. If you have Bank of America account, it's free entrance for account holder first weekend everymonth.

I love art museums! I collect an enamel pin from each one I go to. The form factor at LACMA leaves a little to be desired. The map for the location has little to no details about where different sections were, the item descriptions are clustered in a way that makes it confusing as to which item is which. Many descriptions and displays are difficult or impossible to view well if you are in a mobility aid such as a wheel chair. The rows of the gift store do not allow a chair to swing and turn between displays. Being watched silently by staff while I struggled was humiliating. Maybe next time I will be able to give a cherrier report.

The website describes this place as “largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection of nearly 149,000 objects that illuminate 6,000 years .” What they don’t advertise as prominently is just how much of their collection is currently in storage, waiting to unveiled when their huge building project completes by 2024. The remaining art is mostly contemporary, with some interesting temporary exhibits. If you love Picasso and large dramatic modern art you may love this museum, but for many the 25$ ticket price will feel excessive for the art you will actually see. The museum has frequent free days and times worth checking out. The famous street lamp art outside is free and open any time.

  • Ben Qiu

With major construction going on and noise that can be heard in open space, as well as limited display space, $70 for two adults and two children makes no sense. The "members" sign at ticket booth is so ineligible that neither we nor several others behind us noticed it. After waiting for the turn, we were all told by the rude lady behind the glass to go to the end of non-member queue and queue up again. Wow. Covid has been over for a while, but the museum shop only allows 12 people inside at a time. And we had to wait 5 minutes before getting in. One additional star for the museum restaurant where both food and service were decent.

  • Rochile

The famous Urban Lights are free and outside, they look great at night. It was a good museum with a variety of artwork to appreciate. The museum does span 2 buildings so be sure to visit both (one across from the other) to get your full $25 experience. They do offer student discount so bring your student ID. One building is a single floor and the other building has 3 floors. Coat check was outside, near where the ticket counter was, which led to a cold walk down the pathway before getting inside the museum. Never experienced that setup before.

At the time we went (around 6pm) the museum was closed. But you could walk around inside premises. Most of the people come here to take photos of the lights arrangement inside. This light area is free to access. But not sure of the time they switch on them. After sun sent this place is so crowded to take photos. People even come here for wedding and graduation photos. Out side of the museum, there are restaurants too. Free off street parking available right in front of the museum.

Great museum! The have good variety of exhibitions with renowned artists. Access si simple and the museum is easy to explore on your own. They also have good outdoor work and some evenings they even have jazz music sessions. It’s a great option when visiting Los Angeles and you can easily spend half the day there. There are also some other museums in the surroundings. I wish the museum shop had more things, the offering was limited compared to other big museums. Ticket price is good and the food offering is ok.

Guess I just came at the wrong time. Lots to see, but also a decent amount of closed floors and galleries under constructions. Didn’t love being berated by security staff about carrying my tote bag behind me. I was sternly told with no explanation that my bag must (uncomfortably and inconveniently) be at my side or front — bizarre. Cool to see the famous Magritte. The Chinese piece was done by the cousin of the last emperor; my family has one of his paintings too.

This gallery is definitely worth a visit, offering a captivating experience. However, I would highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance and carefully selecting the exhibition you wish to explore. The expansive and awe-inspiring space is dedicated to modern and new art, with certain pieces that provoke contemplation on the nature of reality. Overall, it's an enjoyable visit.

Beautiful. I’ve been wanting to go take pics there for a while and it did not disappoint. We went during a weekday and it was fairly empty. We did not go in, so I can’t attest for the art inside, but I do remember reading that you have to buy tickets in advance. The outside is beautiful and great for pics. If parking in their garage, prepare to pay $28 even if you only stay for a few minutes.

I've always wanted to get my photo in front of the light poles here at the museum. My partner brought me here this afternoon and we had a really good time. The cost was $25 per person (outside of LA COUNTY) They also had other museums and food options at this location. I would recommend checking it out. Give yourself a couple hours to explore.

Most expensive place and it’s not worth spending. Had a worst experience first time with the employees they are literally rude. For every different section of building you have to pay additional fees. And instead of giving information the employee is rude and behaving disgustingly. I will recommend don’t pay and waste your money guys. The street lamp section is better for photography.

Art is subjective, reviews are not. $25 admission fee, $30 for parking. The admission is literal a sticker, you can save it and re enter so. Not gonna judge the exhibits, as they tend to rotate. The staff inside the galleries was nice to us, no one tries to bother us, but it seems that depends on how you look. Park has EV plugs, but will take forever to charge, just 8 amps.

It was too late to go into the actual museum, so we stayed at the light sculpture in front of the museum for photos like everyone else there. It's a perfect photo op area, but you will have to time your shots right if you want to make it appear you're alone. Unless you come very late night. It's a great spot to come by and at least visit the light sculpture in front.

I really loved this museum. It’s art all around. It’s well curated art, all the buildings are worth it. The parking is very comfortable. They have elevators to go up and down frequently. One of the greatest things to share is that as a Bank of America cards holder, 25$ tickets was for free. Definitely recommended see the images! #art #LA

Really cool museum with a nice outside area with free art sculptures. I didn’t go inside the art museum but I walked around for the outdoors portion. The streetlights piece was really cool and the best place to take photos and look around. It’s also near a nice outdoor mall called the Grove which is great for dinner and just a night out. There’s also a movie theater there

It's a nice museum but for 25$, there was a lot less to see than I expect. A few things were very entertaining to me, but I pretty much toured the entire exhibit in less than 2 hours. They are building an expansion so I can hope it gets better, but compared to Chicago and New York, LACMA is much less entertaining than the art museums there. Either way I really enjoyed the collection and works they have here.

Enjoyed the breath of modern art exhibits, curated early 21st century but expected more for the most expensive museum we visited. If you love Picasso you'll be happier than we were. Children loved the cars however and staff extremely and don't miss the garage.
