"This truly is the perfect San Diego pseudo-Mexican pit stop: an enterprise that truly understands that an independent food culture around this city has evolved over the past 60 years concurrent to the mainstream acceptance of cannabis juxtaposed to the explosive evolution of surfing, and caters to the powerful bond that now exists between surfers and burritos, and the equally compelling connection between stoners and French fries smothered in random grub"

"Came here after looking at Mesa College, this place is awesome"
LET YOUR CUSTOMERS KNOW WHEN YOU'RE OUT OF AN INGREDIENT SO THEY DONT ORDER SOMETHING WITH AN INGREDIENT REPLACEMENT THEY DONT WANT I've order here many times before with no issues. Today I ordered Lupe's fries to go. The fried are normally the seasoned variety. As I opened them to eat at home, I saw that they were plain fries. I called to ask about it and they said they were out of seasoned fries today. Now I honestly understand if you aren't able to source an ingredient for the day and had to substitute, but it would be a good to let the customers know. You as the restaurant knew what supplies you have for the day. If you ran out of something, let the customers know if they try to order something with that ingredient. I then asked for a refund in which they said I would need to bring the fries back in order to get the refund. So I ended up opting for store credit since I didn't live close enough for that to be feasible (we'll see if they actually honor it if I ever decide to go back). Long story short, I'd double check your order before you leave this place since it looks like they're willing to replace their seasoned fries with plain fries and not bother telling you in advance. Who knows what else they're lying to you about in your food.
This truly is the perfect San Diego pseudo-Mexican pit stop: an enterprise that truly understands that an independent food culture around this city has evolved over the past 60 years concurrent to the mainstream acceptance of cannabis juxtaposed to the explosive evolution of surfing, and caters to the powerful bond that now exists between surfers and burritos, and the equally compelling connection between stoners and French fries smothered in random grub. The burrito that has made Lupe's such a mega-popular spot is an unnecessary monstrosity they call the "T-GUNZ Burrito." Instead of a flour tortilla as a wrapper, they use a 12" quesadilla. And they literally put multiple "Shredded Beef Rolled Tacos" into the burrito along with chunks of steak, French fries, more cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. Only someone with a Galactus-sized appetite would be capable of prevailing over the T-GUNZ Burrito -- though I'd vehemently protest against even trying. Despite the hype, the T-GUNZ Burrito is unfortunately not very good, and even if its existence is totally meant to be "hilarious," (hint: it's not) I still take issue with any place that tries to cook up rubbish that winks at you for how rubbish it is. It’s still rubbish.
I would have to admit the the food is a little pricier than your regular taco shop but Lupes is not a regular taco shop. They know how to serve up their burritos and no matter what you choose, you'll most likely going to enjoy your food. Free refills on all beverages. Yup, including the horchata, jamaica and melon flavors (other shops refill for $1.00 and up). After you finish eating, you wont regret what you paid and you'll return for more.

Parking
The only negative i give them is parking, there are no assigned parking and they share parking with other shops that get very busy too. So depending on the time, you may spend time waiting for parking. They are on the corner of Mesa College Dr and Linda Vista Rd, so expect lots of college traffic. If you do not mind dealing with a little traffic and waiting time, youll be glad that you went to Lupe's
Wow! Pleasantly surprised. It looks like a cookie cutter chain store, but the selection, flavors and salsas are great. O have not been disappointed once. Their fries are unique, filling, and tasty. I could eat there everyday... CA burritos are healthy right? Haha Edit Sept. 2022 The food is good if you ever get it. In August i waited 25min only to get the wrong burrito. When the real burrito finally came it was like 35min late and this was like 10am, not a huge rush time. This last weekend i went at 8 because it opens at 8 and i didn't want to wait 25min again so i decided to be early. Too early. They were "still opening" and it would take another 25min. Don't say you're open at 8 then. I didn't even stay bc it seems they don't know how to operate
Came here after looking at Mesa College, this place is awesome. Judging by the other reviews, it looks like it’s newly remodeled? It is really Glamorous and trendy inside, and most importantly the food is yummy! They have a large menu with modern options including bowls, signature tacos, signature Mariscos tacos, protein style tacos and of course the classic stuff like burritos, Carne asada tacos etc. Yes, the food is about a dollar more expensive than other tacos shops, but it’s basically like paying a dollar extra for having such a well thought out, versatile menu. Worth it. Oh and the service was friendly! I’ll definitely be back :) Didn’t take many pics cuz I didn’t want people to think I was taking pics of them LOL
Stopped by Lupe's today for lunch and was not disappointed. They recently reopened after a remodel as a sign would suggest and it looks great inside. Good, small selection of beers on tap as well as a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine and other bottled beverages to cater to everyone. Ordered rolled tacos and the Stoner Fries (pictured) for my wife and I to split and it was definitely more food than we needed. Also ordered a kids meal for my boy which was complete with two rolled tacos cut in half, chips, beans, rice, and a drink cup. 4 stars because service time was a little slow even for the busy lunch hour. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will visit again!
Honestly it wasn’t worth the money way to expensive the cashiers attitude was disgusting the cheese tasted bad. It doesn’t have that authentic feel to it either.I was looking to try new things n I wish I could’ve gotten it refunded. If your looking for a good authentic taco shop at a reasonable price I suggest Roberto’s taco shop on morena blvd customer service there is always on point n delicious. Save your money this place isn’t worth it sm great taco shops near Linda vista this one is just not it

This place is unusually expensive for a taco shop! The food is strange and the only men in the place with 15 people the day I went were 2 cooks. I ordered a shrimp burrito. Mozzarella, mushrooms, pico, shrimp....it was a strange combination, it tasted strange and really wasn't worth 15 dollars. If you invest in a meal here, check the ingredients of the menu items first. They make things differently. Their counter person barely helped me but was quick to turn the screen around for a tip. The place is clean though.

March 2021 - Prices have gone up. 4 tacos came up as $17 and it didn’t come with any chips. Had the fried fish taco and there was more breading than fish. The spicy shrimp taco was good. Probably one of the better values since it is shrimp and has a slice of avocado. (Fish taco didn’t come with avocado) Tortilla seemed house made. Not the ones that can be bought at the grocery store. Each taco came with double tortilla shells. I usually eat one of the two tortillas from other Mexican restaurants but here I don’t mind eating the second tortilla.
Small burrito ever I seen in my life !!!!! they use to be alot bigger more feeling where half the burrito got me full . Only two male workers Monday Oct 16 . Came all way to from Chula Vista to have a burrito because I missed it but you won't see me around anytime soon! If your employees are sick why they working !!!!! And look too small now use to look alot more open. ...

Expensive! Got the fries with the egg and the tiny little container had like maybe 15 fries. There was a giant tortilla too underneath everything, all folded up to make it not seem so empty. The tortilla took up like half the container. Last time I was here, I got twice as much for $17. This was $19 something. The food is great but felt scammed due to prices. It was also soaked in sauce

I came here for taco Tuesday. There was a variety for Tuesday special, but the menu is hidden. The employee had to verbally tell me each and every one with price. There is like 8-10 taco varieties. They basically give a discount to each taco they make. I couldn’t catch up with her. For a taco shop, the place is designed nice and modern, but no menu for the Taco Tuesday. It’s like the were hiding the discount. The food came out cool. They just need to post taco Tuesday menu.
Had the T-Gunz burrito, it's probably the best Cali Burrito I've had. Not sure if it's just because it's so massive but it didn't feel overly saucy and the fries were crisp and meat was good. It's the best but I live about 30 mins away, unsure if the 30 minutes (15 there and back) is worth it since Jalapenos is about 15 minutes from me; I'll definitely get it if I'm in the area and looking for a Cali burrito. The cashier guy was really nice the day I went (12/18).
Placed an order through Grubhub 10/29/23. We ordered a surf and turf taco, al pastor taco, a carnitas taco and a birria taco. All of them were good. We especially liked the birria taco. The least favorite was the surf and turf because the carne asada was overcooked. We would definitely order all of them again.

Honestly, best carne asada fries I’ve ever had. They’re called “Lupe’s fries” and they’re bomb. The venue has a trendy Americanized-Mexican theme going. More of a hipster-Mexican think really. The prices are very affordable and maybe even cheap. Their portions are HUGE! The fries you see in the picture are a “half-order” so be aware. You might not finish your food. The workers are super approachable and speak both English and Spanish very well. Highly recommend.
It’s taco Tuesday folks!! Thought I’d try this spot out and my wallet and I both agree. This place is doable. The quality of meat was great and the tacos themselves were affordable too. They also have soups here (beef/chicken) for when you need that liquid num-num. The fountain drinks need to be refilled though, I had to settle for coke orange or vanilla sprite… I swiped left for the coke. But sometimes sacrifices happen on your journeys, make the best of it.
Talk about a low key gem! My girlfriend and I were at Mesa college for the senior games and my dad wanted a quick Mexican spot. We dropped in and the food was great! Salsas were loaded with flavor without being spicy and the flavor was on point! We ordered the California burrito, Carne asada bowl, and Lupe fries. I would recommend each of these! We will be sure to come by again.

Welp…I had tacos for lunch and feel it was a bit blasphemous that I waited two days to visit. Everything on the menu will make the trip worth it so I went with the 5 Mini TJ (3 carne asada / 2 pollo asado) and a battered fish taco. I highly recommend ordering online to save yourself some time once you get to the restaurant..and DO NOT forget your sauces!!!

I’ve been here many times throughout the years; it used to be really good. I ordered the surf burrito, which used to be excellent. However, this time, it wasn’t as good. It was dry, lacked sauce, and surprisingly had sour cream instead of the usual white sauce. It felt more like a California burrito with rice, and the fries . Very disappointed I didn’t enjoyed at all .

literally one of the best restaurants i’ve been too in a while, it’s hard to find a restaurant that I like every single thing on the menu but Lupes has done that. along with that and how genuinely nice all of the staff upfront is it makes for one heck of a good experience!! I highly recommend eating here and just a warning you’ll probably hate chipotle bowls after trying one of theirs it is 10000x better!!!
Got a California burrito the meat was barley there it’s as if they only put one scoop for how over priced it was you would think there would be more meat it’s practically a burrito with just fries guacamole sour cream and cheese, and the ice cream smelled like dog food very unpleasant

The food is very good, but also pretty pricey for San Diego Mexican food. I have been here over a dozen times and was never disappointed in the flavor or quality of the food, I just can’t afford to eat here often because I live here. I love sharing a plate of nachos or fries with my family though. The mangonada is very good too.

Good service and nice modern look. Their food looks pretty but is kind of bland .. I ordered a grilled fish taco and a spicy shrimp taco and I almost thought I had covid because of the way it lacked flavor. Spicy shrimp taco wasn’t spicy at all had to drown it in salsa

Great food as well as service. I saw a video about the TGunz burrito and knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint and totally met my expectations. It was absolutely delicious and for $9 it was worth the price. The burrito is HUGE, I was only able to eat about 3/4 of it and took the rest to go. The only thing I didn't like was the parking, it may be hard to park if the area is busy.
I moved away from here and I miss it so much. I’m obsessed with the potato tacos and ate them weekly and they were always delicious. Sometimes it’s a little chaotic to get your order because they are always so busy but that’s because the food is so good and consistent. The lupes fries are about 4 pound

I had three tacos three different styles. All of them were simple and delicious. Chicken taco had delicious flavor and juicy texture. The carnitas tacos was excellently braised while maintaining that moisture inside the meat. Finally, the carne asada taco had delicious texture and spot on taste. If I had to pick a winner, it would be the carnitas taco.
The last few times I’ve come to the taco shop and ordered something extra like sour cream or guacamole in my burrito, they charge me but don’t actually put it in my burrito. Just got home to find out they did it again after I ask the young man working at the cash register if there was sour cream in my burrito. NOT COOL

The food was good and the restaurant has a clean modern feel. Service was good but I found the food was similar or not quite as good as lower priced taco shops in the area. I they lowered the price by a dollar or two or gave free chips and salsa this would be four or five stars.

"You get what you pay for", true statement! Expensive little joint but worth it, my daughter and I stopped by to check it out and were floored. Quality over quantity, they nailed it, definitely quality. As for quantity, big servings, sure to be satisfied. Give this place a 10 out of 10, good job Lupe's... …
Straight fire, it felt like the tacos were straight from Mexico they have the real al pastor and hand made tortillas, you can eat inside right now but it’s limited, my advice is just order your food and take it to the beach or your home and eat. Leave these dope people a good tip, they i there working hard
Good, but not as good as it used to be. Like everywhere else, portions are stingier and more expensive. Tortillas we kinda stale and breakfast burritos were mostly potato. Chips here are pretty good though. Salsas are mid.

By far, the best burrito that I’ve had in San Diego. I got the surf and turf which had perfect amounts of filling and really hit the spot. Really excited to come back again and try out other options. The place does get busy so make sure you order ahead or are okay with waiting around for a bit.
**NEWLY REMODELED** Taco Tuesdays are the best. $2.25 - street tacos I like the spicy grilled shrimp tacos. Very tasty and filling. This place is not the cheapest. But, I’ve always enjoyed the food. Never been disappointed. They have an adobada taco serving section. Very nice.
I’m really love Mexican food. I eat everyday around San Diego. But today make me feel despair. This place unbelievable burrito they make is so horrors, and waiting time is make you to fall asleep.

Fast service, friendly staff, and a wide number of options. Regardless of your meat or veggie preference, there's something here for you. They may be street tacos, but the portions are generous, and you can replace the taco with a lettuce wrap at no additional cost.
I was expecting a classic taco shop when I found this place on google but this place is closer to Chipotle than Roberto’s, mostly in terms of atmosphere (Very Modern). Food is good, I got their bowl which I actually wish more taco shops had. Simple but delicious.
Was good a few years ago, wait is still too long and quality not worth the prices. Had some really really disappointing food on the last visit. Too many great tacos shops in SD to chance another bad lunch at this place. Sorry wanted to love this place.

Not as good as it used to be. I came here last year before the renovation and the service and burrito was far better than now. Also they stopped serving chamango which I specifically came for and they didn't remove it from their menu online
T-gunz burrito is bomb! A bit pricey, but for what it has I guess justifies it. Around 12 bucks! Has quesadilla wrapping. Then inside has two rolled tacos. Carne asada with it's toppings. Plus fries. I share it with my bf. I get quite full!

First time here and was surprised by how much they put on the plate. Fries were really crispy good, great service, good company. Good place to get a quick bite and fair prices. I'm going again to try other options on the menu
The food was good, but I can’t help but feel it’s just an expensive version of chipotle. the portions were good but could be better. My wife and I got two bowels and drinks and it was about $35ish which seems pretty high.

This place is really good. The quality of the food is awesome, and the service is pretty good too. My last meal there was a couple of al pastor tacos and flan for dessert.
The smallest burrito that I have yet to see in San Diego. This place has something wrong for sure because the price for one burrito equals half a meal.

Interesting style, we will be returning. Their Tj tacos have the same ingredients as Tj tacos but hit different. From what we tried the tacos were pretty good.
I love this place! Foods are great! Price is just right. Ambiance is cozy and space is big. Try the ice cream!!! I personally love the lupe's bowl.
Absolutely love this, this place amazing for sure I will go there a lot, the food was very delicious, the customer service was amazing
I love the protein style tacos! Discovered this place on a Tuesday. Now, I definitely gotta try all the types of tacos each Tuesday
Great for a quick bite. Prices are a little above your normal taco shops, but it's worth it. Their hot cheetos burrito is the best!
Food is AMAZING & THE people were very nice. It would have been 5 stars if I didn't have to wait 30 min for my food.
Best roll tacos I've had! Stoner carne asada fries had bacon, shrimp, and fried eggs on top. Staff was amazing.
