I am actually very disappointed I am even writing this review as I really did enjoy this spot. But I feel I have to save others from disappointment themselves. My daughter submitted an email to Lutz per directed over the phone then gave them a call to pay for and to confirm order. She did everything they asked her to do and was very detailed in her email. On the call, she confirmed everything she wanted on the cake and was set to pick it up the following week. Upon arriving, she was shown her cake and to our disappointed it was missing a few things that we had stated in the email and ALSO spoke about over the phone... She asked to obviously fix what needed to be done and to our surprise, she received the most inappropriate response from a young lady on the floor, basically stating it was her fault.. and that she was trying to "look out for her co-worker as well." Basically blaming my daughter for their mistake on the cake although she kept showing the girl the email of what she asked for, it was clearly right in front of her. The only thing my daughter requested to change was the inside of cake from vanilla to chocolate (SIMPLE). Here we are waiting for the cake decorator/manager to come do what needed to be done... mind you it was my granddaughters bday and we were in a rush but unfortunately had to wait on the cake which delayed our party. The manager comes out with the unfriendliest most annoyed look on her face trying to "resolve the issue". This was the most unpleasant, most unprofessional visit ever! I I paid a lot of money for a cake that came out nothing like how I asked, neither did I receive half my money back or discount or nothing for my time wasted. The service was completely horrible and I wouldn't dare risking ordering another cake from this place. Not only do they not care about your time but they also will blame you for their mistakes and treat you like an annoying human being. This place has gone down hill, and sadly I will not returning or recommending.

The well known Lutz bakery have ruined my child's 1st birthday party, i went there just because i heard good reviews but the way they messed up with my baby’s birthday cake order was not acceptable & the rude staff wasn’t accepting their mistake also they were telling me the customized order that i have given; is not on their receipt record so I finally called the lady named Joanna who have taken my order for the cake she wasn’t coming out to talk to me after I told them that I am not going to accept this cake, the cake was truly look like a $20 cake bought from the regular food store. I truly didn’t see any kind of professionalism in their work. Literally, my guests left the party, waited long for the cake but it didn’t arrived on time because the order we need to pickup was at 4pm but we received the order after 7pm and on top of it the rude staff of the Lutz Bakery clearly denied to help me anything with the decoration. After juggling with them for 30mins they didn't feel sorry but tried to fix it. I am highly disappointed with this decision that I made by blindly trusting them, whoever is going there to order your special events stuff, please confirm with everything so that this will not happen to any of you.

This was not the experience I expected. I was really really excited to visit since I use to watch the show and always wanted to go there. The lady who greeted us when we walked in was very nice and told us to take our time as we looked to see what wanted. The gentleman that helped us get our order did not seem like he wanted to be there. They had full cakes on display for 2 of the slices I ordered but when they were given to us they were pre packaged which I think the gentleman should have explained to us. My brother had stopped at a rest stop on the way back home and saw the Carlos bakery slices in a vending machine which really made me feel like I wasted my time when I could’ve got the same thing out of the vending machines. The pizza slice was really good. The fruit tart was not that great, but the other pastries were good. I was just surprised that the slices were not fresh and the person helping us was not very welcoming.

Black Forest, Strawberry Whipped Cream Cake

This place is nostalgia at its finest for me and it really hasn’t changed all that much. The cafe/restaurant is gone but there is seating along the wall so you can sit and enjoy a pastry and coffee while watching others make their selections. Every table was clean and ready to be enjoyed. The pastries are beautifully presented in their cases and are very fresh so you are guaranteed great tasting quality. The staff is welcoming and patient while you make your selection. When we didn’t see our first choice in the case, he didn’t hesitate to start a fresh cake so we could enjoy the superb vanilla strawberry cake. I couldn’t resist the hazelnut meringue and black Forest cherry to go so we could enjoy them tomorrow. The coffee was piping hot and smooth with no bitterness. It is great to see an establishment that can withstand the changing times and still be as good as your memories. That is Lutz.

Absolutely stellar. Came here specifically to find sacher torte. Left with just that and a slice of dark chocolate cake. The best sacher torte I've yet to have! The dark chocolate cake was similarly incredible. Dark chocolate ganache coated a light chocolate mousse covering three layers of moist, dark chocolate cake. Unlike most cakes this surprisingly wasn't too sweet--it was perfect. Sacher torte had two layers of apricot jam, a rich chocolate cake base, and a beautiful dark chocolate coat. With multiple cases of single cake slices, whole cakes, cookies, quick breads, and pastries, you're bound to find many treats to love. With COVID the small dining area and restrooms are currently closed. That was a bummer. Quick and friendly service. Very fair prices.

I picked up my order noticed the cheesecake had a pinkish hue to it, asked the guy behind the counter if this was the strawberry cheesecake I had ordered? He answered yes…why? I then explained that I thought it was going to be the typical New York style cheesecake with strawberries on top. He then explained to me that this was not the case…the strawberries were infused into the cheesecake! With EXTRA strawberries on top!! I was like WOW! Maybe this was a good mistake…he then offered me a different piece to taste….OMG from now on this is the ONLY way I want my strawberry cheesecake and the only place I’m getting it from!!

I used to love this place until I had a bad experience this last order for my daughters bday. I ordered an avatar cake. I was satisfied at pick up. I live over a hour away. As I am driving home I hear the sugar decorations falling & as I glance they were cracking. I called the bakery & they said if I can come back. Theres no way I am driving back. I asked for a credit on my next order & they said to email them & send a pic. I did this & never received a response. No credit nothing. Mind you this cake cost me $199. I will no longer give them my business. A cake that cost that much should not fall apart in minutes.

Birthday Cake

Either I have covid or they forgot to add sugar in some of their cakes and cream/icing. I was so puzzled that I taste tasted each separate layer. One layer would have sugar added, and then the next layer wouldn't have any sugar in it. I'm so confused. I ordered 6 different cake slices, so I'm not sure what's going on. If I indeed lost my sense of taste from being sick, I will change this review.

We have been ordering birthday cakes here since the late 90s. They got the best cakes in the city. Never disappointed us. A little story about me that I've never once stepped foot inside the shop as I'm always the driver, parking outside and waiting. Today was my lucky day. There was a parking spot in front of the shop and I went in with my wife. Took some pictures for the review

We got our cakes from Lutz for our April 2023 wedding and they turned out beautifully! We requested palette buttercream flowers for our cutting cake's design, and they did a great job! Very special place - my family has been getting their birthday cakes from Lutz since my mom was a little girl, so it was extra special to include them on our big day! Highly recommend!

I order all my special cakes here and they are tasty. The service isn’t great. They have changed dramatically. They don’t do special orders as I would expect. How hard is that when you are supposed to be a specialty bakery. They don’t call you back to tell you. Terrible! They don’t have their little cafe. They may as well be Jewel.

Quality of this place has gone down. Order a cake and they didn't have the proper size package for it and used some thin layer paper to cover it. Took almost 30 minutes to pack the cake. While waiting for them to pack, I ordered a hot chocolate and it had no sugar and barely any chocolate. I felt like I was drinking hot milk.

Lovely bakery in the neighborhood! I am so happy that I stopped by at Lutz bakery today. All the cookies were amazingly delicious and literally melted in my mouth. The staff was super friendly and the owner showed amazing hospitality and generosity also. Will definitely return. They make very cute cakes here also!

My mom put in a last minute order for my birthday cake yesterday, the cake is beautiful and delicious! Thank you so much for putting such detail into my cake and following all the directions for example the almond shavings on the sides! Tastes delicious and real! This place is a must see! You feel like you're back in 1950, picking up a delicious handmade dessert that will impress even your mother in law...the staff is so friendly. Great little German bakery with various pastries and cakes that’ve been fresh every time I’ve gone. My favorites are the apple strudel and black forest cake. Coming from someone who used to live in Germany, they're (really close to) the real deal. The chocolate ganache cake is also a winner. Highly recommend!

I grew up going to this bakery. Their cakes are delicious. The strudels are worth buying and having a cup of coffee. If you need something to take when you're going to someone's home, go to Lutz bakery and grab a pastry. It is worth getting a cake, streusel, macarons, cookies, or any dessert.

I stopped by at the perfect time. Usually this place is packed. I was able to get several treats for the family nice and easily. My family had been coming to this family business for over 30 years. My grandmother loves their chocolate mousse. I wish I could have stayed for coffee.

Picked up a few pastries today with my husband. In the past I have had the cherry and cheese strudel, my favorite strudels in the city. Today we opted for a slice of cheesecake, mini canoli and a log cake. All were delicious. One of my favorite classic bakeries of all time.
