The food was perfect. Perfectly spiced and delicious! We had two orders of tibs (opted for spicy) and the steak pieces were soft and seasoned well, and when combined with the sautéed onions and peppers and clarified butter... PERFECTION. The injera is almost 100% teff flour and delicious. The two lentil dishes (one spicy one not) were creamy and delectable. And lastly the Shiro Wat (pureed chickpeas onions tomatoes garlic). Smooth, with some spice. Delicious. The atmosphere was enjoyable, sitting outside on the patio on a warm Edmonton evening. The smells of food and Ethiopian incense were perfect. The host/owner/chef Issayas (Isaiah) is a beautiful human. He is kindly and humble and so nice to visit with. And lastly, as an added bonus, they even had Mirinida! Our favourite Orange soft drink from Ethiopia!! All in all an enjoyable experience that I'm looking forward to having again! One note, the restaurant is in Little Italy and has had multiple owners/names over the years. (Abyssinia, Momona and Mesobena). The current/correct name is Mesobena! Enjoy! My favorite Ethiopian cuisine restaurant. The host is always happy to see new faces and is very welcoming. He sure delivers an Ethiopian experience along with his dishes. They roast their own coffee and it a must try! The atmosphere is beautiful and classy inside. The owner renovated the whole thing on his own and built a patio as well. It is truly fantastic Now the food, They offer a veggie platter which is perfect serving for 2 for just below 20$ (without drink). In the dish there are about 5 or 6 different dish, i believe. All extremely well prepared and cooked. They dont usually serve salade with it which i i personally prefer when they dont but if you ask they also do. All the dishes are perfectly balanced with one another and the injera is absolutely delightful. Over all, mesobena exceed expectations on so many level and served me the best Ethiopian meal ive had in Edmonton and honestly through out North America.

We popped in to try the food this morning right when they opened, it felt so relaxed almost like eating at someone’s home. Groups of friends popped in to visit and share food. Issayas greeted us and explained the menu, we opted for the vegetarian platter and some spicy beef Tibs. We sipped tea and coffee and anticipated the arrival of our delicious food. Once it arrived the aroma from the platter made us feel like we were no longer in Edmonton, a quick cultural travel experience as we ate with our hands and savoured every bite. Issayas also gave us a healthy serving of beef K’ay Wot to try, which turned out to be one of our favourites from our meal. By this time the indoor and outdoor dining area began to fill up with regulars, laughing, eating and shaking hands. Certainly a place we look forward to bringing our friends to and sharing a meal.

Best food I've had at a resturant by far the most delicious dining out experience I've had, this place has good variety awsome and unique flavors. The coffee was also super delicious! Got the Tibs with lamb,and was some of the best lamb ever I've had. With great flavors that immediately intrigue and wash over the taste buds with delicate and delicious rich combinations of wow. The bubbly kind of crepe bread (i forget the name of it) but is delicious and soft and spongy for soaking up the flavors. Also got the veggie platter with the potato and cabbage absolutely so yummy never had anything like this and I plan to go back for every special occasion! So happy I went here for my birthday! The staff is super friendly and polite aswell! Thanks for an awsome and delicious dining experience!

The owner is very friendly and helpful. The interior is cozy, there are beautiful paintings of Eritrea or Ethiopia in the hall. The food is authentic. It is specific and not for everyone. From the outside the building looks bad. It was raining that day and the walkway was all puddle, so my legs were all wet. We ordered kitfo to go, but were a little bit afraid to eat this dish with raw meat, so fried the meat. Was not bad. They also seem to have some musical band performances

6 of us went out tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our first experience with Ethiopian food. Two of us eat plant based, and I need to eat gluten free. Our waiter/manager, Issayas helped us all navigate the menu. His guidance and suggestions were spot on. We all liked what we ordered. All the dishes had unique flavors with different spices and levels of heat. Do your self a favor and try it. We all agreed we would return.

This is incredible Ethiopian food. Not only do we get outstanding service when we come here, but you can't go wrong with any dish. I highly recommend the chicken tibs!

My first experience with Ethiopian food, but a friend brought us here for a group meal and it was incredibly delicious! The owner was very friendly and helpful, and told us about the meaning behind the restaurant name which was very interesting. Each dish was very uniquely flavoured and it was great to have many different options to try. Absolutely would reccomend and will be returning!!

I had my bridal shower Friday evening. The owner and the staff are absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and pure perfection. The decoration was simple and beautiful. I’m Ethiopian but I’ve never had Ethiopian food besides what I’ve eaten at home. This restaurant though really feels like i’m eating a home cooked meal. I’m soooo happy I came here with my friends because this place will be a lasting destination for dining for us all! Superb service and portions to share with all your friends!

What an amazing restaurant. The food here is incredible. Issayas is a great host. He cares about his customers and his culture. He could probably charge almost double for the amount and the quality. I highly recommend this restaurant. I look forward to going back and trying more of their menu.

This is an Eritrean restaurant located in a COOL neighbourhood with Spacious Parking spots. Since I came to Edmonton, no comparison with other restaurants in the area. In addition , Neaty and clean always. Tasty food and service make it extraordinary.

Went for a lunch, asked for suggestions and got perfect advice for a taster menu. Staff were knowledgeable about the choices and were very attentive and friendly. Ended it off with an amazing espresso. Would highly recommend.
