I purchased a caravan from Matthew John Coles and when i spoke with him on the phone i asked him if it had any water leaks or water damage and he advised no. I advised Matthew that I was coming all the way from Adelaide to collect and he advised me that the Caravan was registered and all ready to tow away. Matthew advised me that he would have a trailer plug for me to use when i got there and when I got there to collect he advised he was in a hurry and only spent 15mins with me and didn't have a trailer plug, so I could not test the lights were working and he quickly hooked up the caravan for me and said to go to Repco next door and grab one and then he left. I towed the Caravan to Repco next door and bought a trailer plug and when we hooked up the trailer the lights were not working. We then had to purchase a trailer bar light to be able to get it somewhere for someone to look at the lights. We were advised once they took the light covers off that all the inside of the light fittings were rusted away and that all the light were unusable and had to be rewired. Matthew purchased the van from another man in Tasmania and never put the caravan in his name to sell it to me and made it appear that he signed the registration papers in front of me but it was the previous owners signature and drivers license. As i do not know anything about caravans and Matthew took advantage of that, when i got it back to Adelaide I had to wait to get it looked at due to the Brakes also not working as well as the lights. I was unaware of this as I have never owned a caravan. 6 weeks after buying the caravan and having to have it stored i was able to take it to a commercial caravan repairer and was advised that the whole caravan was water damaged and wood rotted throughout. He advised me that minimal of the Metal framing was attached to the wood inside and he was surprised I had made it home safely. When I contacted Matthew he advised I could have Damaged the Caravan on the way home and this was not his problem because the caravan was 50years old and he said the Gumtree listing advised that the Caravan was not to be towed around but was to be sited. The Gumtree ad did not say that the caravan was only to be sited, otherwise i would have never driven from Adelaide to buy it. Matthew knew i was coming from Adelaide and I told him I was going to use this with my daughter to go camping regularly. I have since been contacted by another potential buyer before me who advised that he hoped I didn't get stuck with this Caravan and that when he went to see it Matthew attempted to hide the wood rott inside the caravan by sitting on the seats inside. The potential buyer then advised me that when he saw the condition of the van he was actually scared at the thought of just towing it across Tasmania and asked how we even got home safely. Matthew knew I was coming from Adelaide and I advised him that it was going to cost $2500 just to collect it. Matthew deceived me from the start and took advantage of me knowing that I didn't know what I was looking for and he sold me a significantly unroadworthy Caravan that should have never been sold to anyone. Matthew has refused to take any responsibility and has been quite happy to walk away knowing that I am now $8500 out of pocket. I wish I had read the reviews first because it would have given me a slight idea of the misleading Business' man that he is by also flipping caravans and vehicles that he does not even put into his own name with registration, which I am assuming saves money or avoids some sort of payment that he is required to make when buying and selling vehicles. BUYERS BEWARE and do your research. Yes that Caravan is vintage but is not as described and I feel like i have been scammed, Taken advantage of and ripped off!
A blue Toyota Hilux with the number plate MJCARS was tailgating me along the highway from Kingston to Hobart (I was doing the speed limit of 100kms), they were centimetres away from the back of my car and if I had of braked at any point they would of ran into the back of my car. They then decided to honk at me because they couldn't get past. Once I moved over to the left hand lane they sped past me doing approx 120kms. They are very unsafe drivers and shouldn't be on the road!
We bought the perfect caravan for us from M.J Cars and Commercials and it was exactly what we were looking for. It was an absolute pleasure to deal with Matthew, who was not only honest and knowledgeable, but a really decent and likeable bloke. I highly recommend this business.
Dangerous Driver A blue ute with an MJ CARS licence plate has been recklessly speeding down the southern outlet, changing lanes suddenly without indicating, nearly causing several crashes. Incredibly dangerous. That is not the kind of person I want to buy a car from.
