I am a square-rig sailor who usually sails into the Wooden Boat Festival at Hobart. This is an excellent cafe and does great breakfasts and lunches. Its big laundromat is just APALLING. On my last pre-Covid visit, there were lots of big ships wanting to do shiploads of laundry, and at least three-quarters of the dryers and washers were out of action. There were nearly fistfights. This year (three or four years later) the SAME THING happened. They are losing a huge amount of money as well as totally misrepresenting themselves in their title. It's a cafe. Do your laundry elsewhere.

I need an effing laundry, not an effing cafe.
I really tried to like this place given all the good reviews but their "signature" Machine packed Roti bread was inedible. Maybe bland scrambled eggs encased in a wet wrap is your thing, but I couldn't stomach more than a few bites. The "chilli jam" was essentially a honey syrup with bits of chopped up red thai chilli's in it and there was SO much that it just made the whole dish sickly sweet. It was a fair serving size if you can eat it all, although for $17 I would've much rather have just gone to the local bakery. If you're dead set on this place, avoid the Roti and try the sandwiches instead as they were actually pretty decent (bread is from Pidgeon Whole Bakers up the road which is always a winner)
I ordered a coke. They brought out a cola that I'd tried before and knew that I didn't like. When I said "oh sorry, I ordered a coke", they told me this was the only cola they had. I said I didn't like that one could they take it back, not only did the refuse, one of the staff by the door made a grant gesture of scoffing as if I'd asked the most ridiculous question in the world. She was incredulous for all further interactions with out table. Disgusting behaviour from service staff. In the end they refused to refund me for an item I didn't order or consume.

Tasmania trip (last minute as usual due to ever changing covid restrictions ). Breakfast at @machinelaundrycafe - not many options around for breakfast on boxing day, but luckily they were open! Lovely food and an interesting space! Lots of people with dogs too . . Machine packed roti bread: with scrambled eggs and chilli jam. This is one of their signature dishes - nicely done. The roti was good, and the eggs were tasty. Can't complain! . The old new egg dish: scrambled eggs with feta, garlic sourdough, beetroot relish, crispy pancetta. Delicious scrambled eggs! Adding the pancetta is a must .

Came after recommendations from a friend. Service was good, seated pretty quickly and food was served quite quickly as well. Extremely friendly staff which is always good to see. Ordered a cappuccino which was ok, a light roast so a recommend double shot for anyone who likes their coffee strong. Ordered the packed roti with scrambled eggs. Average taste, the eggs and roti didn't have much flavour, flavour mostly came from the sweet chilli jam/sauce. The roti was quite tough to cut through. Overall, an ok experience.

went there this morning and ordered a caramel iced long black and the caramel was handmade which is fine but once put in the coffee solidified and tasted horrible so I asked for a vanilla one instead cause it was disgusting and that tasted horrible too. so went to pay and I had to pay for both as the company doesn't care of the quality they won't compensate anyone due to horrible products so definitely do not recommend this place. staff are rude and inconsiderate and food was gross too

I read great things about this place and was so looking forward to a nice brunch. It was a beautiful day, a bit hot in the sun but pleasant. It was busy but we got a table quickly. The staff seemed tired and not very friendly. It was 1:30pm so I guess they were nearly at the end. Many meals were sold out and I chose the eggs Benedict but no greens or sides which would have been welcome. Coffee and food were good, but not great. I would come back and try again when it’s not a public holiday and they haven’t been pumped all day.
Loved the breakfast options while doing laundry. Super helpful and kind staff, and can get coins from the Cafe side. They sell detergent too! Quick and clean washing units, some are currently being serviced, so may need to wait for a machine if busy. Had the excellent Parmesian and Pancetta Pancakes (small portion available), smoothie, and a great iced coffee with ice cream. Great concept place that really gave this long traveler a great start to her day. Thank you!

Best brunch experience during my time in Hobart! Great location, amazing ambience, quirky decor with the laundromat and vibrant colours all over. The staff have great service attitude, shout out to the good work ❤️❤️❤️ a must go when you’re in the area☺️ food wise, can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu. I’m personally not one for sweet food but the hot cakes were not too sweet and the combination of flavours is just right!! We had the Magic Mushies and Thom’s Thing which are really flavourful too.
So noisy at this place. The waitress who served us was lovely young person. She made a mistake with my order & owned up & apologised, which was awesome. It didn't worry me as we all make a mistake sometimes. The issue was, I went to pay & the staff member at the register tried charging me for that meal I didn't order & didn't believe me when I told her what happened. Not keen on going back there, just too loud.

Followed our accommodation recommendation for this one , high vibe this is a quirky busy cafe , you can sit and eat while your washing is going in the next room , great coffee , happy staff that are straight onto the drinks as you sit- excellent food - I had the lentil burger - charged with vegies and huge size , we also ordered scrambled egg and sausages , recommend this little gem for good quality good price .

Saw this highly rated cafe in Zomato and decided to try it on our last day in Hobart. This place is also a working machine laundry shop hence the name! We ordered the eggs Royale and Fat John. The Royale was your average brunch staple and nothing too special. The Fat John is more unique because you don't often see that in brunch places. The peanut sauce was executed well and wasn't that heavy on the overall meal. Food - 6 Service - 7 Vibe - 6 Price - $$
Its kind of a unique cafe where you have washing machine service on one side as well as serving breakfast and coffee. Ordered a massive pulled pork sandwich. Pork is very tender and jucy but I think the ingredients are not what I expected. Instead of shredded iceberg lattuce they should replace with spinich. And sourdouch should not served cold and should be toasted. Overall its just a medium cafe compare to other breakfast restaurants.
4/6 dryers were broken, and the place was packed. Not clear that it was a table service venue being quite small and full of people. We went for the laundromat side and had to take wet clothes across town to find a dryer since they broke while we were waiting for the washer. I had a nice banana milkshake but my partner reported an unsatisfactory cappuccino

Nice big outdoor table section on Salamanca Sq is nice. Iced latte on the smaller side. Had the Fat Boy and the parmesan and pancetta pancakes. I enjoyed the Fat Boy, but the pancakes were a bit too dry. Good, prompt friendly staff.

Great little cafe set in a back alley of Salamanca Place. Filled with locals, this quirky spot serves a great breakfast and excellent coffee. A great and simple breakfast menu combined with an extensive blackboard menu. The staff were friendly and efficient, and their style and character suited the cafe/laundrette vibe (it is a real laundromat and you can bring your dirty clothes to wash while you eat!).
Amazing cafe in Salamanca, great concept! Staff were super friendly and keen to help, made it a really nice experience. Really appreciated the change given for the washing machine, the latte in a bowl is an interesting concept and I absolutely loved it, the coffee was spot on - will be back when in Hobart again!

Liked what I ordered but imho would have tasted way better without the sugary stuff on this dish. Apart from that, the coffee was great, portion size was worth the $ and location was convenient right behind the salamanca market. I arrived right before the crowd started coming but with their outdoor space it was no problem. If you want or need a laundromat, you are in the right place too!
A very big shoutout to the friendliest staff members here, thank you so much for being so accommodating and attentive! The cafe offers a quirky, vintage style design with delicious brunch and coffee. Their coffee is good and their meals are big portions. You can opt to sit indoors or outdoors, where you can enjoy the sun on a good day. There are also laundry machines available here.
Set in the beautiful Salamanca Square, the Machine Laundry never disappoints. Quick service and amazingly friendly and great with little ones. Food was excellent and a really wide set of options. Highly recommended

Location only does walk-ins (no bookings) even for large groups. So if you have a group or are on. A time crunch have a backup. The gimmick of the location was cute but doesn’t add to the dining experience. Staff service once seated was great. Food arrived as ordered and they split bills.

Great local café with good vibes. Friendly staff and nice location. You can shout and watch the locals play chess on the giant outdoor board; or simply get your knickers washed and dried in the laundry facilities! Indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend their savoury muffins - not of the fainthearted... yum!

This is my go-to spot when it comes to brilliant cafe food in Hobart. Machine Laundry Cafe has an extensive list of options to choose from, but I can never go past their vegetarian options. In particular, "Thom's Thing" and "The Mental Lentil" are two outstanding options. If you can find a table outside, you are able to enjoy the vibrant Salamanca Square, too.
We dined here around 8 years ago and were so excited to see that they were still operating. It was our first destination when we arrived in Hobart from QLD. The coffee and food were just as amazing all these years later. We returned on our last day for a final perfect breakfast.

Cool cafe with an interesting menu. Great vibe. Good coffee. Decent food. Not the greatest laundromat, only 3 of 6 washing machines and 2 of 6 dryers working. Dryer didn’t get amazingly hot. If you buy a coffee they can give you coins and just charge it to your card kinda thing

Went here on a Wednesday morning for brunch and was blown away by how big their serving was. I ordered Thom’s Thing and it came with a huge mound of chickpeas, guacamole, tomato, spinach and halloumi on a thick sourdough toast. It was very enjoyable. It’s going to be noisy indoors so don’t go if you are planning to have a nice conversation as you eat.
Busy. Long waits for service. Food was good at best. Coffee was tepid/warm - although it was a good tasting bean (would have loved a hot second cup). We were not made to feel comfortable as customers at all. From the moment we walked in till the moment we paid the over priced bill.

Food was excellent bit of an odd range but works well. For those reading this is actually a coin laundry as well as a cafe like the name describes. The staff were incredibly happy to be there except one moody staff member who was less than friendly to myself and other patrons, this would have been a 5 star review if not for her
A lot of fun visiting for breakfast and a coffee. Aside from the quirky and interesting idea of merging a laundromat and cafe the coffee was superb. I loved sitting back in the vibrant Salamanca Place enjoying a delicious hot brekky. It is worth mentioning how attentive and friendly the staff are and helpful for us holidayers!
This place is overrated. $74 for 3 eggs on toast (one with bacon and one with tomato) and 3 smoothies. I could not eat my poached eggs because they were so runny/watery and the smoothies were lumpy. We all agreed that we should have gone to Rendezvous as that was much nicer.

Excellent food and service. The idea of putting coffee in a bowl is more than excellent that I finally find one Cafe that so generous to beat the fake sophistication of drinking coffee in a small potion. The menu is a little pricy but worth to spend if you are seeking for a special brunch.

This place is cool. I really came here for practical reasons, to do a wash, but the staff were so welcoming. This made me want to hang for a coffee int he cafe. I didn't try the food but everything looked and smelled amazing. Nice place friends.
Breakfast at Machine Laundry Cafe is a must for your next trip to Hobart. The 80’s tunes are pumping and the wait staff dancing. The Eggs Royale with smoked salmon, wilted spinach, caramelised onions and hollandaise was sensational. Bon appétit!
A salamanca institution. Great cafe. Good coffee, delicious food. Quite a funky vibe and I think it's even an operational laundrymatte? Hence the name... This is a great place to start your day If you're in the area, and know where to find it.
The food is outstanding! The menu hasn’t changed much in over 20 years but take that as a testament to how good it is. It was amazing then when Machine first opened and is is still amazing now. Coffee is nice but the real winner is the food.
Love this place especially for brunch. My favourite is the Roti with scrambled eggs and chilli jam, it's delicious! This place gets very busy but caters a variety of customers. It also has a life size chess set nearby to entertain the kids

Unfortunately a mostly disappointing breakfast. My partner ordered the porridge which was very tasty. I ordered the avocado with haloumi cheese. The cheese was as tough as old boots and the avocado was already turning brown.
Great cafe with superb brekkie and generous portions. Very busy for Sunday brunch and had to wait a while for coffees but wasn't a long wait for rest of our order. Roti with herb scrambled egg seemed to a crowd favourite.

Unfortunately didn't live up to the reviews. Tables were sticky, coffee was only meh- very small, not really hot (tepid actually), though ok in strength and flavour.
Highly recommended! One of the best scrambled egg I have ever had... Staff are friendly and happy. Suggest you taking an outdoor table if its not too cold!
Never can get enough of this place. We visit each time we're lucky enough to get to Hobart and it's ALWAYS excellent. Gr8 coffee, gr8 food, gr8 service.
