I simply thought I’m just booking in at just another backpackers hostel but soon realised that it felt like I never left home, Malagueta inn is a home away from home with friendly staff and a warm host, Miguel who ensured that I got the most from my visit. This place is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with pieces that tell an African story, true African art that is locally made hangs and stands from every fibre of this house with surprisingly bright colors and this theme runs through the whole house and outside too. I cannot get over the breakfast served my body still aches for the the honey oats and the tomato salsa and avo purée on homemade toasted bread and an amazing brew of strong coffee. My tongue played with local flavours and foreign spices that I will never forget! Had a beautiful serene room with doors that opened into the balcony... that is the only thing that reminded me that I’m in a city and it’s DNA awaits to be explored. Spent time exploring the coffee table reads on display, books that told about the history of the country and Africa in general. Love love loved to be here and I will return someday It’s not about how glamorous a place is but it’s about what feelings it stirs within you...every corner I found inspiration ... this is my journey...

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, like the photos. Not remotely close. It’s a dark and creepy place. I had a booking here and there was no one around. A guy on the street carried my bag up the stairs. I asked if he worked for the hotel and he just kinda nodded. He took me to a solid metal door and banged on it several times. No answer. I asked if he was sure this was the hotel. He said yes, but I don’t think he actually worked there because he couldn’t get in. Things were beginning to feel like a scam. It was a completely dark hallway in a very dark building. After waiting a while, I finally took my bag and got out of there. I’ve been to over 120 countries and all over Africa and South America and this is one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had to date. Big no for me.

The host and staff were absolut amazing! From we walked in to we left the place two days earlier, we were taken care of. Everything from deep conversations, to historical facts, to splendid recommendations was appreciated. The only thing to change was the amount of days we stayed there, which was not enough. The room was cozy, nice and clean, the bathroom beautiful and the complementary coconut we got when we arrived was the “dot” over the I that made us love this place. Would definitely recommend to a friend or two .

I loved this place so much. It’s a very welcoming place and Miguel and Martinho are such great and welcoming hosts. I wish I stayed in Maputo longer than I did solely because of this place. It’s also very confidently next door to a nice Portuguese restaurant where people chill out from morning all the way to midnight (with equally great service). You won’t regret staying here, try it out!! I definitely want to come back now

Unieke ervaring en een die je niet snel zal vergeten. Een kleine oase in een betonnen jungle. Het is een feestje voor je ogen, super stijlvol ingericht met oog voor kleine details. Anders dan een normaal hotel en voor de reiziger die geïnspireerd wil worden.

Arriving to Maputo with some airport struggles. This city Oasis was exactly what I needed. The warm welcome by Judith, Miguel and the kind staff made me feel comfortable immediately. Facilities are great (shower 10/10) too. Thank you so much!

Great little guesthouse right in the centre of Maputo with many restaurants around. The rooms are nicely furbished, as well as the outside areas. The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful for all questions that you might have about the city. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable place perfect for a short stay in Maputo. Miguel was very accommodating! Location is nice, walking distance to a couple worthwhile restaurants, ATMs and cafes. I stayed here twice and will stay again next time I’m in Maputo.

Excellent location very central plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. Full of greenery with a great sit out. Can also prepare your own meals if you wish tea/coffee available at any time.
