I went into the store yesterday on feb 4th , I was with my neighbor and we were chatting about what we were going to buy. We were greeted by a very overbearing staff member with eyeglasses and brown hair. He asked us what we were looking for and directed us, asked us if we needed help and we politely said "no thanks we are browsing" ... I walked around with my neighbor looking at items and remarked that I might get this item at family dollar later today. I remember saying that again to her, we walked around to the counter and the associate who greeted us was 6 ft away and said to another employee " is this guy a commerical for FD or what? I mean is he going to say that about everything in the store?. I mean he must have said FD 20 times". I didnt mean to offend you or your love of ace hardware sir and I'd ask in the future if you're going to make fun of your clientel then wait for them to leave the store. I bought a few things and noticed the nice woman at the counter look embarrassed for her co-worker. I feel for her too it must suck working with that guy. Anyway i won't be back there are plenty of places to go where I won't be followed around and ridiculed.

A friend tried to do me a favor and get a key copied for me. Mary’s Ace Hardware doesn’t take cash. They’re reasoning is due to “Corona” aka Covid/Pandemic that they do not but still give you paper receipts… Rude employees, who seem lost when you ask them where items are or to recommend something. If not taking cash is due to Covid then why isn’t the staff wearing masks? Are they all vaccinated with boosters? This is just a tool of gentrification to not take cash and they’re using “Corona” as an excuse. Wood enterprises manages this place and the employees said it was their decision and that they’re pretty tired of having to explain this over and over again to customers. I highly do not recommend this place. Staff is rude, condescending and anti-social, not very knowledgeable about products and continuing to not take cash after the city lifted the mask mandate, just makes it plainly obvious what is really going on here. Avoid this place if you can! Zero stars. *When asked when they will be accepting cash again, the older, Blonde woman cutting keys said “NEVER”.

Several attempts to stop at this sort of convenient hardware store near/ in the FQ. Always a hassle ... they always ask if they can help but they never can ... they don’t know their paint brand or really how to match, I always know exactly what I want and try to gently guide them towards finding or providing it for me but they are usually just interested in gossiping or shaming or any number of self important, self appointed rule enforcing that makes them feel like they are the special store for all the special people ... and if you do make it to the register with anything you may have come in for , have patience , bite your tongue or you may just get shamed out of the store or bored to death with today’s dysfunctional story about god knows what...really really please don’t shop here , I wouldn’t be this long winded if it was just one bad experience, it is every time and I’m finally fed up. Do yourself a favor go anywhere else.

While not always cheapest, there is so much more here than you get from big box stores. Excellent people, super helpful! I've read other reviews where a store get 1 star for reminding people.to pull up their mask? C'mon, all of us have forgotten or not noticed it slip down, being reminded is ok. Be kind. Complaints about not taking cash as well, it's ok. Use your card. I love not having to touch their card machine, just hover with phone. My first dozen times in Mary's even when they were on Bourbon, I felt like the staff are always hovering, but figured out they just want to help customers. They happy to leave you browse too! Everybody be kind to eachother, be safe. Pandemic is not forever!

Wowww super convenient, beautiful well organized store. Lots of great goodies upstairs! My favorite part the beautiful staff, always greeted as soon as I walk through the door. Every single staff member makes sure I am helped before I leave the building. One time I got a nut for my bike tire and the girl asked me to bring my bike closer so she could test the nuts to make sure it fit and tightened it on once I found the right nut. I don't go to any other hardware store in the area just because I want to see the super friendly, helpful, colorful krewe you've got working there. Always always leave with a smile and a little more love in my heart! Thanks for the kindness always! <3 <3 <3 Kate :)

So maybe don’t threaten to call the police when black clientele try to return an item with their receipt? “Kim,” we’re looking at you. Had a friend who is undeniably one of the gentlest, most polite people you’ll meet receive just abhorrent service from the manager for trying to find the right product for their project. My friend’s partner accompanied them and witnessed this hostility. Said friend is a black man and knew exactly what this aggression was rooted in. I love an Ace Hardware, and believe it should be “The Helpful Place.” But obviously “Mary” and her staff didn’t get that memo. Also, Harry’s was always better. #HarrysSquad

As an out-of-towner who's used the store a dozen or so times in two-week period, I can honestly say I've never been in a better hardware store in my life. Mary's is neat and organized, filled with a wide range of hardware, building supplies, and materials for most every need. The store is staffed by a friendly and knowledgeable group of employees who actually go out of their way to assist customers. Add that to the fact they sponsor food services in the adjacent parking lot to feed the local homeless population -- and you are forced to ask if there is a better home center anywhere on the planet.

Tremendous selection. To get here I happily drive past a HomeDepot store. The employees actually know what is in their store, & how to use it. Knowledgeable staff is so soothing if one is questioning his own choice of products. Any off street parking spots? Yes!! Order on line? Yes!! Do not shop here unless you go upstairs to marvel at their immense selection of household items. Beyond my imagination that I'm in a hardware store. I fell in love with this store when I happened upon a knife sharpening seminar in progress. During Covid-time they use cash only system.

Screw Mary’s Hardware! A Black man was profiled there and threatened with the police. They rented him the wrong equipment, overcharged him for it, and refused to refund his money. I won’t be back. If you feel the same way, let them know you don’t appreciate local businesses whose default is to threaten to call the police as soon as there is any kind of dispute. He could have gone to jail or worse been killed in an altercation with the police today. The only good thing about this story is knowing that if they can't even afford to give a refund they might fail soon.

I arrived at Mary's Ace just before 5 pm last Sunday forgetting closing time isn't 6. I expected to be turned away at the door but instead the cashier kindly asked me if she could help me get what I needed. Not only was I able to grab those few items, she also helped me pick out a space heater that made all the difference keeping my place warm. That Vornado is my new best winter friend and the cashier's kind helpfulness went a long way. Just want to thank you so very much for taking a few minutes and the patience to allow those last minute purchases.

My favorite place to get all my home repair necessities (and way, way beyond). I love this place. The service is always wonderful, the staff are a delight, and they truly have an amazing selection in this seemingly-small store. Another hardware store (not to be named) that I used to go to in NOLA wouldn't sell me tools unless they agreed with my reason for needing them...just because I'm a woman, I guess? Never had any such judgmental/misogynistic notions at Mary's Ace Hardware, I'm so glad to have a place I enjoy supporting after that experience!

I was about to spend maybe $50 or so, on a credit card, and I used to come here often because they're nearby, but I can't support an anti-freedom and a classist business policy of not accepting US currency without proving you have a bank account. What if you lost access after a storm and need some hardware? No cash? I asked when they plan to start taking cash again. "Never" So that is also when I will buy from them again. Boycott this, don't let it become common practice for businesses to not accept cash.

I have been shopping at this store since after hurricane Katrina, and used to tthoroughly enjoy my shopping experiences there in the past, but my last few shopping visits recently/lately, there have been very exhausting. Being watched like hawk while shopping especially by one of cashiers that works upstairs. I notice there aren't any BLACK employees working there are also. I used to enjoy my shopping experiences there, but my dollars spend everywhre and I will take my money/business elsewhere.

My first time going here and I loved it. I never write reviews but I felt I needed to for this place. The road construction is really bad all around it making getting to it very painful especially in a 1 ton dually. It was the only place that had the bolts we needed but upstairs was a place for me. Lots of unique household items. First time I ever found something for me in a tool store. And to think I almost waited in the truck. Hubby wishes I had but he will get over it.

  • Mina Bellavia

I used to love this place. Did lots of business there. After having keys made getting home and finding out there was one instead of three and then driving all the way back to the store the Woman at the counter refused to admit that she only gave us one and not all three keys, said if I wanted the other keys that were missing I had to pay for them all over again. they have lost my business and my partner’s business because of her attitude.

I rarely go there and I am asking myself WHY? It is a great hardware store. Everyone is very helpful and they have most everything you need! Today I finally found a “church key” liquor pours, a old fashioned Benzomatic ( which is better to use to light my gas stove with instead of buying a new stick lighter every month). The upstairs has great kitchen/bath items. The guys upstairs were beyond helpful and adorable! Thank you Dee Dee

We find Mary’s Ace Hardware to be very handy in the French Quarter. This is a small store but has just about anything needed. They stock plumbing, electrical, painting and many other supplies. Upstairs is an amazing home accessories department with mixers, microwaves, coffee makers and almost anything else you can imagine. The staff is not the greatest but the selection and convenience make it worth it.

  • Mark Benson

Super convenient. They have a parking lot. They're on Rampart across from Armstrong Park. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everything you'd expect in a hardware to store. Excellent paint department. And upstairs is fantastic. Gourmet cooking utensils, knives, cookware. Imported foods. Expanded pet department and everyday household items. Good prices too.

I've always been greeted by friendly workers upon entering this lovely hardware shop. The assistance to find what I need, as well as the conversations, have been nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend shopping here for your gardening and household needs. The upstairs has so many fun kitchen tools and edible goods that I need to stay on the first level!

  • Kim Welan

This is a full-service hardware store like days of yore. Staff here seems informed and helpful, I've only been here the one time but they are now "on my list" of places to go when I'm not so sure about what I need to 'get 'er done' and can use some advice about the right toll or part for the job.

  • Adrianne Montoya

Love my neighborhood hardware store! Staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They have plenty of useful stuff here, usually everything I need and more, but whatever they don't have they'll order, or tell me where to find it. Lots of local knowledge here.

  • Markesha Favis

A woman named Jo assisted me and she was very rude and unpleasant. I placed my items in her hand and she put all of my items on the counter including my receipt. I politely expressed to her that she was being rude and she laughed it off. Very unprofessional.

  • Phoenix DelSol

Friendly staff. Has 2 floors. 2nd floor had all household items like dishes, blenders, pet stuff, etc. It's a small place but they have EVERYTHING! From old style nails to bicycle stuffs to vacuums, gardening stuff and place settings... It's a one stop shop!

  • Michael Saucier

Small but very well stocked. They don’t take cash, but this is also 2022, not 1907. Never have an issue finding a knowledge employee to show me where something is. I dig this place and come here often both for work and person matters.

  • Dj Bonzz “Bones”

Happened by here leaving Louie Armstrong park and my girlfriend saw a elephant watering can she liked for a friend of hers. We carried it all the way back to Pittsburgh as a gift reasonably priced quick service …

  • Ally

Love this Ace location. Love the staff, the abundance in merchandise and don't mind the snack samples and Community coffee. Also pet friendly. There are 2 floors of home and yard products. Appreciate!

  • Israel Heller

They won’t take cash. Hard to overstate how obnoxious that is for a place that provides essential home services for regular people. Other businesses better deserve your money.

  • James Elliott

What an amazing little hardware store. Great people. Lots to look at. A little piece of history.

  • Stephen Medina

Super Helpful Super Friendly They got parking !! I LOVE going there :)

  • Amy Nicole Stewart
