I have been a long-time member with Massage Envy. I had a massage scheduled at the Rancho Penasquitos location in San Diego today. I called the location today to let them know I woke up feeling congested and had a hoarse-sounding voice, so I was concerned about coming in for my appointment today only because how I might be received with the COVID-19 pandemic since my voice was "sick sounding". The location told me they would be taking a 1/2 credit from my account for the late call-out, so I said I'd rather come in for the appointment than lose my credit because I generally feel OK and do not have a fever (I just sound a bit congested). I was told I was not permitted to come in for my appointment and again told they would be taking the 1/2 credit from my account for the late call-out. I understand losing credit for calling out late. I’ve never called out late during my entire membership and I’m generally a laid back person who doesn’t write reviews. However, this is a special circumstance during a pandemic where I was trying to simply be honest & courteous by letting them know the situation and give the location an opportunity to reschedule me. People cannot predict when they are going to wake up sick; it is not reasonable to take a customer's credit in this situation. This is absolutely horrible customer service on behalf of Massage Envy. In fact, the message is counterintuitive and rather encourages people to come in when they're sick instead of being honest & trying to reschedule, and potentially get others sick and spread COVID-19, because Massage Envy will take their credits regardless. This is bad business. On top of this specific situation, I’ve never had an amazing massage at Massage Envy. Most of the time it’s a mediocre disappointment at best. The last facial I got (at a different location), the esthetician didn’t even put a hair wrap on me and had product all in my hair and puddling in my ears. So, I was planning on canceling anyways; this was just the cherry on top. I think it’s important for people to share their candid experiences to help others not make the same mistakes so I hope this review helps someone make an informed decision about getting a Massage Envy membership.
They upcharge you for no real reason other than "it's their clinic". First time I went there (for a facial) I wasn't even notified of the $15 add-on until after I was done. I said to the clerk, "I didn't ask for that." She replied with, "Yeah, but it's our clinic and this is our way of getting something back." I asked if I could opt out of it and she said no. I didn't argue and just paid, but I was insulted that they assumed that I just had that money to give them as I am on a strict budget and was not expecting a price other than what was listed. I was upset, but the lady I saw was really good, so I decided to schedule again, and planned to tell them I didn't want an add-on before the appointment started. I got a confirmation call (back facial) where I was told this time the upcharge was $30 and I could not opt out. $30 Tipping is around $20, so on top of the fee of the treatment, I have to pay $35-$50 every time I come in? I don't have that kind of money. At least they let me know beforehand this time.
The Rancho Penasquitos location is nice and clean and the staff is very friendly. I used to go to the Mira Mesa location, but that location looks a little tired and the therapist that I usually book with left. So I decided to try the PQ location. I booked a prenatal massage with Desiree. She applied the right amount of pressure and was sure to ask if it was enough or too much. She was able to get my sciatica pain for the mean time. If you book your next appointment before you leave, they enter you into a raffle for a free massage. They notify the winner at the end of the month. A nice little perk to keep you coming back.
This is the best massage envy location I have ever been too. I have been a member for many years. They have plenty of skilled staff and the owner of this location seems to be one of the few that truly cares about their customers getting what they are in need of. Therapists are knowledgeable and hard working. Facials are tailored to your skins needs and you have a better chance at being seen here than other locations because they have the staff! Kudos to the franchise owner as she is doing a far better job than other ME owners!!!
By far the worst massage experience I've ever had! Many of the "therapists" are poorly trained, one didn't show up at all without explanation, one sneezed in her hands and continued the massage without cleaning or washing her hands. Canceled our membership before the pandemic but they kept charging my credit card. Now, as they opened again, they started charging my credit again multiple times. Will take legal actions to get my money back. - Extremely poor massage and membership services!
A big no for this place if you need a good Massage, The therapist "Linda" is more interested In sharing her stories then giving you a service, so please simply don't waist your time and when i talk to the manager, she simply said conversation during the therapy is to get comfortable during therapy ...which is actually waisting client time and money as well and the peace they were expecting at Spa...
The. Worst. Location. Ever. They will tell you one thing on the phone and then do a whole switheroo. I cancelled an appointment with 4 hours notice and they told me it was going to cost $5 and ended up costing me more like $30. This wasn't the only time either! Not to mention they won't return your call and never seem to have any openings.
Lisa has been, BY FAR, the BEST massage therapist I have had in all my years of trying out different people. Lisa listens to what is hurting, and knows the logic behind all of the techniques and anatomy. Booked out with her 6 months currently! And will keep going back! Go see Lisa ASAP!
I went in to get a sports massage because of back and thigh stiffness. Yoyo, yes that's her name fixed me up! If I ever need to get another sports massage, I know where I'll be going. Oh and they try to sell you a membership at the end....but it's a buisness trying to up sell.
They sold me a 3 month membership I didn't want, saying the deal included 2 free hours that would never expire. I tried to use the hours months later and they said they were expired and the only way to use them was to buy another $200 membership. Bait and switch.
Happy to have followed Mandy from Mira Mesa location a couple years ago, also Tina, Eileen, and Carrieann have done wonders for aches, injuries, and age! Staff is helpful to schedule last minute, and suggest other therapists for available times.
A bit too pricey even with a membership and it took some time to find a massage therapist I really felt comfortable with who didn't leave the company, but they have excellent customer service and nice surprise promos.
I recently became a member. Used to think it was unnecessary but I love it. Sometimes the availability is not ideal but always a good treatment....massage or facial.
I only went once. My sister goes here regularly and gave me one of her credits when she saw me in pain. "Steven" did a great job. I've been feeling better since.
Very relaxing ambience and Amoree at the front desk was able to clearly and concisely answer all the questions I had about their various goods and services.
Love them. The massage therapists are great. They focus on your problem areas without neglecting the rest. We always leave here soothed and relaxed :-)
Massage was good. There was an annoying rattle in the a/c vent through my whole time there in the room...it was 'un-zen' due to that
Whitney was Amazing. Incredible personality, hands and elbows. Very deep massage and I felt great afterwards. Thanks Whitney
My masseuse was amazing! She also said it was a great working environment. I’d say this location is a hidden gem!
Do NOT go to this location. The service is absolutely disappointing. Michelle, the manager, was very rude.
They will have you sign a contract that you can’t het out of. Watch out. Horrible business.
My wife loves this place great place to go get a massage on a regular basis
I hope Linda never leaves Envy. Give her a raise - she's phenomenal!
Clean good place for massage, facials, and microdermabrasion!
Had shoulder problem. Massage really helped. Recommended.
Only one person at the reception desk. Very expensive.
Sasha is fantastic. I highly recommend this location.
