+JMJ...Very beautiful Church permeated by the transcendental. Lovely stained glass windows depicting moments in the life of Jesus and His Mother, Mary. Mater Misericordiae is Latin for Mother of Mercy. Stepping into this House of Prayer, one should be aware of being immersed into a little bit of Heaven on earth. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered in the traditional manner in place centuries before Vatican II. It is prayerful and conducive to reflection upon Jesus's sacrifice for all mankind. An aside: I must address a comment made by a fellow supposedly named Alonzo. I suspect that he might be a troll whose sole purpose is to interject negatively upon this Catholic community. However, if his experience is real, he should return and ask to speak to one of the parish priests. I am a black female, a revert to my Catholic faith, and have participated in Holy Mass in this welcoming Church several times. Though I live in Cottonwood, a friend and I travel to Phoenix to participate in the First Saturday devotions. My own experiences have been no different than the other Holy Mass attendees. We prayed the Rosary as a group, participated in Holy Confession, spent time in silent prayer before and after Holy Mass. And, those who felt inclined spent time socializing outside in the courtyard. Mater Misericordiae can be a place of spiritual respite for those who sincerely seek it here.

Absolutely love this traditional Latin mass! We Love Father Passo and absolutely miss Father Malain. My family and I had been coming here, since year 2016 and everything was in order then. After COVID 19 hit, things drastically changed to where the scheduling of mass times were often changed around. Ever since Saint Edwards opened, the mass times at Mater have shortened to only having TWO mass times in the early AM.We drive about 1hr away which makes it tough on my big family. It has also, caused (even though Saint Edwards is opened) to still be so overcrowded, that it’s so difficult to find ANY seating whatsoever. Sadly not even the men have politeness to give up their seat for woman holding a child. This big change has unfortunately made it so much harder for my big family to continue attending. Hopefully Father Passo could Re-add more mass times at Mater, including more HIGH Masses (since it’s SUNDAY) other then the two masses they currently have, that are low masses; that way it could fix the problem of overcrowding and availability for families that drive from afar (like us) could attend once again. We hope and pray this could be possible. God bless!

This is an amazingly beautiful church with the grace and word of our saving Lord. The staff is very hard working and dedicated to bringing a plan of salvation to those who choose the free will decisions that we are given. Yes, tragic events have happened there in the past. Father Terra demonstrated strength and strong character by overcoming a terrible situation. Father Walker was an amazing and convicted man who lives now with the Lord in peace. Faith and the love of the Lord gets us through terrible situations. What a blessing to have such a spiritual and convicted environment in our community. The focus is purely on God and not on the humans who have been chosen to do the work of Christ. We must be strong when faced with Satan. Having a place to help equip with the tools to live a Christ like life is something that should be supported.

I was so happy when I found this latin rite church. That has changed. I have a 28 year old son who is non verbal autistic. He is very sweet and well behaved in Church. A church helper approached me after Mass, and said to me that it is best if my eldest son comes one week and me the other. They feel that my autistic son is not getting anything out of the Mass and should NOT attend. I guess special need children are not welcome in this church. The church is beautiful and the High Mass is amazing , however if you are not PERFECT in their eyes do not go to this church. Please find one that will accept all of God’s children.

My absolutely FAVORITE Church to attend when we are in Phoenix! The Latin Mass feels as if I was transported to HEAVEN. It is truly beautiful. We live in CA but everytime we are in AZ, this is where we attend. The priests, Father Passo and Father Malain are heaven sent! They truly care about the souls of their parishioners. Always ready to hear confessions so long as they are available! I am so grateful and thankful to God that He led us to this beautiful jewel in the midst of a "bad" neighborhood.

There is something very, very special and Holy going on at this Church and the Mass offered by these two humble Priests. Our family loves this Church, and I can say, as a life long Catholic, for the first time, I feel something very different than I ever have before at Mass. I actually want to go to Mass, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I didn’t used to feel this way, ever. Like I said, something Holy is happening here and I’m eternally grateful we’ve found Mater Misericordiae.

The Latin Mass is how Jesus intended Priests to honor God, offer the one True Sacrifice, and for the Priest to stand before God and not facing the people. Mater Misericordiae offers just that in its purest form of the original Mass as it was intended and how it was handed down from the Apostles, based on Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scriptures. My soul has complete peace in this form of the Latin Rite Mass.

Mater Misericordiae Catholic Church is a truly exceptional Catholic parish. I recently attended Mass and was impressed with the accessibility of their confession times, the reverence of the priest and congregation, and the little red books provided to follow along during Mass. Overall, I highly recommend Mater Misericordiae Catholic Church to anyone seeking a deep, meaningful Catholic worship experience.

Beautiful traditional latin mass (triditine mass, old mass) in downtown Phoenix. They are in full communion with Rome and Bishop Olmsted has graciously asked the FSSP to come to the diocese of Phoenix and has encouraged their growth. Do you have spiritual needs not being fulfilled at other parishes? The priests at Mater work hard to give all glory to God and for the salvation of souls.

Mater Misericordiae is a Latin Rite Catholic Church. In that small, beautiful Church in downtown Phoenix AZ is a little bit of Heaven on earth. I've been to many churches in my life, but this Church is the true Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing else compares. Praise Jesus Christ for giving me the privilege to attend His Holy Latin Catholic Mass at Mater Misericordiae.

Excellent! If you’re looking for a traditional Latin Mass, then you’ve found it. Beautiful chapel, lovely traditional music and a reverent wonderful Mass....The main chapel fills up fast, so come early if you want to sit in there. But when it fills, there is an auxiliary chapel where the Mass is televised. You can’t go wrong either way. Enjoy!

  • Jared de Asis

If you want to experience the fullness of God’s love in the Mass, it’s the Traditional Latin Mass. Came here for 2020 New Year’s High Mass for the first time, completely in awe of the Lord’s beauty in the Mass! Update: I got baptized (conditionally) and confirmed in this beautiful Church! What a great blessing! ⛪️

  • Rich Gutierrez

God is good all the time! And all the time (your response). Beautiful, reverent, active parish, available for confessions, excellent guidance in confession, good homilies, but maybe a little short. A lot of support and many step up to help. Would like to see more FSSP throughout AZ. Thanks for welcoming my "busy" kids. …

Mass at Mater Misericordiae is God’s self-disclosure to us. In the actions and words of the priest here, each of them give the impression that they are here for one reason, to connect the faithful with God and to be connected himself with God. It brings us into contact with Him in the Mystery of Faith.

  • Debra Abel

A bit of heaven on earth! The traditional Latin Mass is celebrated for God with such beauty and reverence. The organist is exceptional along with the Scola. The Pastor, Father Passo, is a young priest with a wise and compassionate soul! It's a small church filled with many young, large families.

  • Justin Reany

If you love the Latin Mass this is your home in Phoenix AZ! Nice community. Holy priests. The Latin Mass is the Latin Mass. Truly bad area of Phoenix though! Why they picked such a remote, run down area to establish the parish is beyond me? But happy they are in the diocese nonetheless.

  • Ryan Of San Tan Valley

I did not know this parish exsist till yesterday. I had an opportunity to participate in the Rosary before the 12pm mass. It was a holy experience, the parish even said a portion in Latin and I was blown away on the children's ability in Latin. It's a great church with holy laity.

  • Aliana Partida

This has become my new home parish and I love it! Latin mass is beautiful and if you're looking for a place to experience latin mass then I would suggest giving this church a try. The church itself is quite small, so be mindful of that but it is still charming.

  • Matthew Smith

Beautiful parish. Building looks as if someone picked up a church in Italy and plopped it down in the Capitol District of Phoenix. Very kind and generous parishioners. The Mass is just how you would hope--polyphony, silence, reverence. Top notch church.

  • Jesse Serpa

Hello, my name is Jesse. I am a newly Eclectic Priest. Although I am a Non Denominational Priest, I would like to offer my condolences to the church and the faith. My prayers and thoughts are with the Priests and their families. Thank you.

  • Christy Zarate

I'm not a Trad, but I've attended here several times. High Mass on Sundays is extremely crowded & the isles are very narrow. Low Mass on weekday Masses are well attended. Those who love TLM will surely love this parish! I'm trying to

  • Tim Cathy Branson

Beautiful traditional Latin Mass in a standing room only beautiful Church. Lots of families and young people. When it's over, you know you've been to a Holy Mass. If we lived in the Phoenix area, that's where we would put down roots.

  • John McCullouch

So very thankful to have a Church to attend amidst all of the shutdowns. Attending the Latin Mass here is to truly see the coming together of Heaven and Earth at the Sacrifice of the Mass. Thank you for feeding the sheep!

  • Sonia Gutierrez

Reverent and orthodox FSSP priests. Beautiful Latin Mass. Wonderful experience every time! A bit of a drive (45-60 min), but definitely worth it!! Thank you Frs. Passo and Malain for helping to save souls.

  • Christopher Mattei

This church has AM confession and Mass which is nice but be advised Vatican ll Catholics it is Extraordinary Mass in Latin old style. St Mary's Basillica has Mass at 1200 for your daily needs.

  • Peter Rangel

I'm a parishioner at St. Stephen's in Sacramento but I was able to attend the 6:30 morning mass here. The chapel is beautiful, the servers are well-trained, and the sermon was great!

  • Johnathan Blauw

Beautiful Church!! The FSSP priests offer a gorgeous, reverent Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass), and the small church is beautiful inside and out!

  • michael price

A legit Latin Mass. 12th Sunday after pentecost. Thank you guys for being here. Not an easy mass to find when I'm working out of town. It was just what I needed.

  • Marial Arnold

I attend Mass at Mater Misericordiæ six days a week. I love the reverence of the Latin Mass. The FSSP priests are amazing and wonderful confessors.

  • lisette Villa

Deeper spiritual growth and devotion toward God is what begins to happen in the depths of your soul. Father Paso and Father Malain are wonderful.

  • Michael O'Squire

High Mass is breath taking, parish is beautiful. Kept finding myself looking at the church when I should have been paying attention to mass.

Nice church, though it doesn't look like much from the outside. This is a really bad area of town, however.
