So Today I went to the triangle with my son to buy some groceries and on my way back I decided to have a look at Merlin Shoes because I am looking for wellies for him, and I am thinking about changing his school shoes... the owner showed me a couple of wellies and I said "would that be possible to measure his feet because I am not sure about his size? " and then the lady said "but are you going to buy the wellies or not, because now we charge £5 for measuring if you don't buy" ... this put me off of buying anything there. I have never been a fan of that shop however I have bought 80% of my son's shoes there for the past 3 years.... I will never go back there. I always feel that if you go in there you need to be out with a pair of shoes otherwise you are persona non-grata...
Like a lot of local families, our kids have grown up with this mother-and-daughter team from having their first shoes fitted to school shoes. Always welcoming, friendly and careful with their sizing, they carry a lovely selection of stock with funky, comfortable adult shoes and a good kids’ range, especially for those who want unisex or girls’ shoes that aren’t all covered in pink, flowers and diamante. Locals pop in to say Hi and catch up even if they don’t need shoes, and the family support the local Festival. This business is a truly valued part of the community as well as just a great place to shoeshop.
We have been clients for many years and always enjoy visiting this shop run by two friendly ladies who are very experienced. This shop was originally recommended to us by our daughter's chiropodist, as we could not find any suitable shoes for her in big chain stores. It is an independent shop with a great selection of quality shoes and excellent fitting service. We would highly recommend this place for people wearing orthopedic insoles and having difficulty finding shoes right for them.
Went to fit our son for a first set of shoes, felt like the older woman saw us as an inconvenience and was quite inhospitable. Other clientele in the shop seemed nice, so might have just been an off day. Very disappointing experience for something that could have been lovely. Left without buying as they didn't stock the shoes in the colour we were hoping for. Wouldn't recommend.
Have been coming here for years for my kids' school shoes - always a good experience. Good fitting service, great selection of quality shoes. Social distancing still in place, which is a positive for me. We were lucky to turn up without an appointment and still be seen between booked customers. Very happy with today's purchase, will be back when she grows out of them!
This woman was so rude. We bought a pair a couple of weeks ago when we “only” found her semi rude. Then we went back because our older daughter saw a pair on the shop window. She didn’t have the size in the pair we liked and when we said we don’t like the alternative she was so rude, she literally kicked us out. Rude!! Never been treated so bad.
The worst attitude I have experienced ever. The women in the shop was terribly rude and demanding, she would shout at you if you tried to try on some sample shoes without consulting her first. I don't understand how a shop would survive with such behaviour. Perhaps it is time for another rival shoe shop to open.
I was so disappointed. I went into the shop and was about to buy a pair of shoes but the attitude of the shopkeeper and her assistant made me leave without. The way they spoke to me as a potential customer was not right. They have a fantastic range of shoes though, if someone doesn't mind bad customer care.
Fantastic service today at Merlin Shoes for our daughter's first shoes. Really delighted we went to this excellent local shop rather than a chain. I felt they were really looking after our daughter's feet and not trying to upsell us. Looking forward to coming back for the next pair!
I would give 6 even 7 stars if I could!! The most trustworthy and professional seller you could find in a shoe shop. We've been given plenty of advices when buying our little one's first shoes and we're really grateful for that! Can't recommend them enough!!
I went to exchange my son's school shoes a mistake they made because they sold me the wrong size and it was the same size as last year and refused to change the shoes so I do not recommend and you lost a customer after 11 years
These women know shoes! They really care about the quality of their products and are always helpful with my toddler's ever-changing shoe size. Adult shoes are also very high quality. Wonderful shop.
The shoes are excellent. However i will never shop there again as the older lady was very rude to me. We have now found another place to buy our shoes as you clearly have enough customers.
The rudest shop keepers I have EVER encountered. They are so strict and stern! A really unpleasant experience every time I go in here, so I refuse to shop here again.
My mum took me here for shoes as a kid and I now take my children! Great service and the shoes are lovely quality and exactly what little growing feet need!
I strongly recommend this shop. The shopkeepers are very knowledgeable and they advised me brilliantly for the first pair of shoe for my little boy!
Personal service and a lovely manner just instills confidence. Love this place. Always get our kid's shoes from here
I am delighted with the boots I purchased for myself a few months ago. Very good service indeed. Thank you so much.
Fantastic service, great range and decent prices. I couldn't ask for more. Wholeheartedly recommend.
Had excellent and polite service, lovely big range of shoes and will definitely be returning.
The most expensive shoe shop in England. Check it out in the Guinness Book of Records.
I buy all of my shoes here. Good, comfortable shoes and nice staff.
Bad service ever , they are really rude ....Avoid this place .
We love this shop and have been buying shoes here for years!

Really knowledgable owners, been going for years!
