My experience at Metro was extremely disappointing, making it the worst grocery store I've ever encountered, not just among Metro chains, but all grocery chains. The staff, particularly some of the floor managers, were incredibly rude. Today, while purchasing eight strips of butter, I had them in my cart when a lady, whom I assume is the floor manager, approached me and stated that I could only buy four. Apparently, they only allow four per purchase. However, since I was shopping for a friend who couldn't do it himself due to an injury, I explained to another lady at the checkout that I intended to purchase four sticks of butter separately using my own credit card. I wanted the butter for myself, while the other four, along with other shopping items, were to be paid for using my friend's card. Surprisingly, the same lady who initially informed me about the four-per-purchase policy suddenly changed her statement, claiming it was actually four per person. Naturally, I questioned her inconsistency, asking her to clarify whether it was per person or per purchase, as she had told me earlier. In response, she suggested calling the store manager to settle the matter. Frustrated, I told her there was no need and that I no longer cared about the butter. I realized that another grocery store would appreciate my business more. If I hadn't spent so much time locating everything I needed, I would have abandoned the items I had already purchased for my friend and gone elsewhere. Regardless, Metro has lost a customer for good. So stay away people, there's a couple of other grocery stores not that far from there, there's a Loblaws and one more I forget the name of the chain but in any event they will be more than happy to accept your monies regardless and how much you want to buy.

This Metro store at the south end of Gardiner's Road is one of at least three in the Kingston market from this chain. When you enter this store, your eyes are immediately drawn to the bright colors of flowers, fruit and produce. The produce is further noticeable because of its side-by-side, vertical presentation. Everything looks new and fresh. I shop by the fresh fish counter and smiling and pleasant man immediately comes to help. I decide on Cajun catfish and he smoothly packages it and passes it to me over the counter. I pass by the store butcher who also looks ready to help me or answer any questions. I don't think eat meat but my spouse tells me they are very helpful and do their best to cut what you want. I pass by a large dairy section and then an enormous bakery before I join one of the cashier lines. My Airmiles card is registered, my groceries are registered, I pay with my AMEX card and I'm quickly out of the store and into my car.

This Metro is well stocked and clean. The staff is accommodating. I had one incident with cheese that can be mentioned. I asked for a certain type and if that's all they had. I received a very abrupt "yes" from the associate and a point in the direction of the cheese. At the moment, I was a bit irritated. I was surprised, however, when the associate sought me out and continued to help me without asking. As with many Metro stores, it has just about everything you want. Of course, the prices are on the high end. You can, however, get the quality products you want. I certainly would return for certain products that I can't get elsewhere for a lower price.

Store is neat and clean. Staff is great. However, went there this morning for Easter shop and they only had one cashier working! So my husband went to self checkout. It was very frustrating. The machine kept saying that I'd removed an item from the bag - which I hadn't. We had a number of discount items which I had to keep asking the staff to authorize. On a positive note the staff Rose who was assisting self checkout was wonderful. She was very patient, professional and friendly. Even when my husband started barking she stayed professional. Great asset to the store. Get rid of those horrid self checkout machines and bring staff back!

This location in particular is one of my favorite Metro's; this spot has a Deli, Seafood section w/live lobster selection and a wide selection of fish, a bakery that I have yet to buy a cake from, but I will soon and the Produce section is comparable and on par with most competitors. The staff are fairly relaxed and friendly so that is appreciated. I hope to see a wider selection in the meat department; to be specific, lamb, boar and poultry. Overall great experience though! I would recommend this Metro over all of the other Metro's in Kingston.

Love the way the Store has become very contemporary and adjusted to the Customers mindset. Prepared meals include not only various styles of BBQ Chicken but also Lasagna, Butter Chicken, Wings and even Suishi. The Orange Juice section includes extra Pulp, no Pulp and mixed Juices like Mango Orange and Cranbrry Rasberry etc. Finally even the Cooking Oils span the price and quality range from expensive Virgin Olive Oil to an inexpensive Canola Oil etc. My first choice for a Grocery store experience! Should be yours also.

Asked a staff member for assistance with finding fondue broth/sauce (as Metro seems to be the only store that carries it) but unfortunately he acted like a complete space cadet saying it could potentially be in 3 different aisles, did not offer to show me, so I wandered around unable to find it and subsequently left the store empty handed. I was going to buy a couple other items with it but put them back, because why give this place my money when they can't help me with one simple thing.

I went to Metro on Gardiners Road to buy Birthday Cake . Lady at bakery Very Rude . First I point to the cake a wanted ,she threw her hands up and said I had to be more specific .. ok my bad . Then asked her to write a Birthday Greeting She said I am not writing with a pen . I am writing with icing .. ok I get it but do you have to be so rude about it .... I totally get working with the public .but if you are having a bad day or whatever please leave it at home

Positive points for cleanliness and staff. Negatives against the produce department. Produce that is on sale (not the clearance bin) is frequently well past prime. Most recent purchase (strawberries) had visible rot and fungus on most of the packages I examined. Purchased what I thought was a good pack, but found this was also full of rot. Will approach any future purchase from the produce section with caution.

It's a nice clean store with attractive displays. Well stocked fresh departments with high quality product and good selection is important to me so I prefer to shop here or at Loblaws rather than No Frills or Walmart. The everyday pricing may be a bit higher, but I often find that 1/3 to 1/2 of the things on my list are on sale. The staff all seem friendly enough and helpful when asked.

  • Patti Evans

I don't normally shop at Metro but I was getting food for my mother who is I'll. I was overwhelmed with the friendliness of the staff! I got a few things from the hot premade deli. The woman helping me was happy, friendly and very helpful :) I may have to switch my grocery store. Very intuned to safe shopping too!!

Best cheese bagels and cheese bread in town. Usually has unadvertised deals going on like when the club pack meat goes on sale in ad, they also put the smaller packs on sale, (not for the same price). Keep an eye on your scan and receipt though, sometimes stuff rings in wrong (not an issue for last 7 monthes)

  • Thunder Chicken

CSR’s are always nice & friendly to deal with, the store is always clean but sometimes doesn’t smell the greatest but receivers aren’t the best to deal with always in a grumpy mood like your bothering them & that they have better things to do then receiving your products besides that the store overall decent

  • irena tubin

Love this place, but twice the person at the meat department was only wearing a face visor, no mask. Second time the staff greating at entrance was wearing a mask with a valve. Both of these are not acceptable by the health unit and are not a well fitting mask. Staff education is needed.

  • T Dey

The staff complained about how long they had remaining for their shift while the cashier rang through my items. Proceeded to half speak to me and converse with her coworkers. I watched as she did not once look at me and drop the receipt on my items with back turned (monotone "thanks")

  • Georgene MacDonald

Very friendly staff, convenient location with lots of parking, great range of house brand products, excellent produce, nice floral selection, good baked goods, and a washroom. A well managed store that is small enough for a senior with mobility issues to navigate comfortably.

  • Eric Orser

Went in to get two hamburger buns, came out with $26 of groceries. Glad I could redeem some airmiles to save on the bill. There always something great to find at this location. A sale that wasn't in the flyer or a great baked good from the store. Definitely worth a visit!

  • shelly demers

Decent store. Was smaller than I'm used to seeing metros. Not overly organized in the layout but I'm sure if you go there frequently you are used to it. Clean as well. Shelves seemed well stocked. Will go back again if I'm in the area and need something this store sells.

  • Alex A

Probably the worst grocery store I've been to. Only positive is that they've never been too busy when I've gone. On my last visit I saw the lady sweep the floors while wearing disposable gloves and then use the same gloves to grab cold cuts to package for a customer.

  • Lizzy Craig

Lots of great product. The staff are nice (for a change). I just went to get a birthday cake for my mom's birthday. I will let you know what thats like. Not my favorite grocery store because I find them overpriced. They offer other services and thats good.

  • Alexander

One of my favourite grocery stores in the West End. This Metro location has been very well managed throughout the pandemic. With friendly staff, well stocked shelves, and great meat specials, my family and I feel safe and appreciate shopping at Metro.

  • Edith Jones

Best store in all of kingston, I shop there regularly and have been for years, best of all the management!! Couldn't have better people running the show there especially with the day and age we are living in. Always going the extra mile to help me :)

  • Hamburger !

Beautiful store with lots of selection and tons of parking. Prices generally higher than the discount grocery stores, but plenty of specials make this store worth a visit. Many vegan products available here that are hard to find elsewhere in town.

  • Shawna MacDonald

Even though it is really busy this time of year the store was still well stocked and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. You usually pay a bit more to go to Metro over other stores with less frills but you get what you pay for!

  • Matt Cameron

More expensive than most other grocery stores in the area. This location never has enough cashiers on hand resulting in lines at the registers regardless of time of day or week day. The staff is mostly quite friendly.

  • Wil Cleland

A lot of empty shelves. Some good prices on some sale items which may explain the lack of stock. The deli guy was ready before I was and weighed my order out to .02 of a gram from what I wanted. Quite impressive.

  • Stephan Moses

The most racist experience I have ever had. Good job Kingston. The late night security staff, I'm sure tried with dealing with the inhebrated but verbal abusing female in the produce sections. Brand new low

  • Nancy Talty

They have some good sale..meat..fish and etc..people are all the time nice. They give 10%off during week days to military but they don't have enough's cashier so it make the wait very long sometimes.

  • Andrew Duncan

Enormous selection of deli meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and an impressive bakery. That said, selection is lacking in some areas such as hot drink (e.g. lots of tea/coffee, but no Ovaltine).

  • B L

Love this grocery store. Produce is always fresh and they always have Turkey breasts at a reasonable price. It's hard to find Turkey every week at other stores. The check lines are a little long.

  • Hunter Dee

Conveniently open late and well stocked, but some prices can be much higher than other grocery stores! I try to only get the necessary items until I can make it to a more reasonably priced store.

  • LM Cumming

I call this METRO 1. It has a better layout and selection than some of the other ones. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Lots of parking and the plaza has many other businesses to meet your needs.

  • Vaden Ellsworth

They didn't have a very good price on live lobster at the time. But they told where to go and how to get there. It was extremely appreciated!!! Really awesome service, I will shop here again.

  • Jesse Campbell

I love their meat selection, the family packs are always great, thick cuts and definitely save money. Their little BBQ ready packs are awesome, I think we have tried them all at this point.

  • Belinda Felskie

Prices can be high but the quality of their fresh produce, meat, seafood, deli and bakery dishes is worth it. Food basics has similar products for cheaper but Metro has the quality.

  • marsha Wiggins

Friendly staff, very helpful but only 4 as had issues with my phone working so tried wifi and wouldn't connect as wanted to get a surprise bag from the app but wouldn't connect.

  • Will Bonnycastle

We avoid this place in the evenings. They often only have 1 checkout line open and I have been caught there for 20 minutes waiting to pay. Selection is good, produce is fresh.

  • Crystal Smith

Always clean and well merchandised. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are generally higher than other stores though. I really like the pizzas they bake in store.

  • Gil Strachan

  • Robert Cox

Good selection of fresh products but prices seem higher than other grocery outlets. Do like the ready meals. Staff are typically efficient and polite.

  • Phil Lajoie

High-end grocery store. Same products available at food basics or Fresh-Co for less money. Very clean, hot food counter has great deals and options.

  • Graeme Mitchell

Always busy, amazing bakery. But seafood never seems to have pickerel, even when there is an ad. I shop Metro basically for the sales only

  • Andrea Tait

Store was clean and well organized. They did not have any smaller cartons of just milk available. 500 MLS or less. They is unacceptable.

  • MonkeyMutt

Have been going here for years. It's the best store in town for buying meat. No other store comes close to the deals they put on.

  • Angie Carey

Food is fresh at reasonable prices. Check out was really quick, cashier was very helpful and friendly. Great place to shop.

  • Shandi Ratz
