I brought my macbook here for repair a few years ago because it had suffered some water damage and Mikey's offers reputable Apple repairs. They had my laptop for several days, and then called me to inform me they could not fix it, and they could backup my data to an external drive for an additional cost (plus the cost of the drive). I agreed and a few days later I picked up my laptop and the external drive. I also paid a diagnostic fee. I retired my MacBook and bought a new laptop elsewhere, but I kept it around. Recently I offered to give the MacBook to a techy friend for parts, and he went to check it out and lo and behold, with a bit of charge my MacBook turned on and was running exactly the same as the last time I used it years prior. I give Mikey's 3 stars because the service is fine and the staff are nice. But my "reputable repair" was ultimately a fluke that unnecessarily cost me several hundred dollars, so I personally cannot recommend Mikey's for Apple repairs. I guess I shouldn't be so trusting when going to "professionals." edit in reply to owner: I am not entirely sure how you remember who i am, but i brought my laptop in and accepted the "diagnosis" that it was not repairable, and transferring the files to an external was the only option. So you are correct in that it was not repaired, as I was not given the option for it to be repaired. I accepted that and gladly paid what I was charged (around $180 total i believe). It was not until recently I discovered my laptop was in working condition with all original files still on it and accessible. Im not sure the reasoning behind any of this, but the point stands that my issue was not resolved so i have no recommendation to offer.

My friend had a problem with his Mac computer and he took it to the Apple store in Williamsburg and they said they did not have the correct tools to open the case and that he should take it to Mikey's Hookup, which he did right away. He was told to leave the computer and they would call back with possible results about what is going on with it. About 5 days passed and no one contacted my friend so he called Mike's Hookup to find out what happened. According to Mike's Hookup, which they didn't call him in the first place, that they could not fix the computer but that they could retrieve the information in it for $170 total (not counting the $65 for the diagnosis). I told my friend that my brother who customizes computers (including this one I am using right now) could take a look at it and if it wasn't repairable then he could at least retrieve the information for free. Guess what. My brother, who doesnt even work in a technical field related job, completely fixed the Mac computer for FREE. The computer is fully working and did not need anything else. Thanks Apple for nothing and thanks Mikey's Hookup for nothing as well. Bunch of useless people that earn their money selling overpriced items instead of having the proper skills to fix computers. Customer service was horrible as well and they didn't even know how to use their own computers to return my friend's money. The register person had to call someone else to be able to return my friend's money to the credit card.

The owner of this place does not value customers or customer service. My mother bought a turntable here for me as a gift, but because the staff wanted a quick sale they did not inform her that the turntable had no speakers. I was unable to return the turntable within the two week return policy because 1. It was a gift 2. I work during their hours of operation. I called today to see if they could make an exception or give me store credit or even partial credit- not only did they say no but told me that it would "lose them money because they would have to process a return" - I am all for supporting small businesses, but not at the expense of the customer. Also - asked the staff on the phone where I might be able to sell the record player & he said "why would someone want to buy a record player?" Why would you be unnecessarily rude + bash on your own business model? I work in management for a small business myself and I would think that giving a customer store credit as an option would actually help their store & encourage me to come back. Try somewhere else in Williamsburg for your tech needs - there are plenty of other options that encourage customers to keep coming back.

My girlfriend dropped off her laptop for a display issue. The employee working said that they would be able to send it to Apple and that it could be a slow process taking ~2 weeks. That timing was going to be fine but somehow they managed to get almost every step wrong along the way: 1. They requested she share her laptop password with them so that they could login once it was returned by Apple to make sure everything was okay. Anyone who works in tech knows that legitimate services should never ask you to share your password. Very strange that they think this is appropriate and raises concerns about their security practices. 2. We were told we'd receive an email receipt. Never received one until we called three days later. 3. Three weeks later, after not hearing anything from them, we call to find out that the laptop hasn't even been sent to Apple yet! Zero communication. Claimed that they had been busy negotiating with Apple, but we called Apple the same day and have a prepaid shipping box on the way. Rescued the laptop from Mikey's and will luckily be doing this directly through Apple.

DO NOT BRING YOUR HARD DRIVES HERE FOR DATA RECOVERY! I cannot emphasize this more. Please, if you value what was on your hard drive, avoid this place at all costs. They held onto my hard drive for 2 months. When I'd call to check in, I'd ask if there's any update and they could never contact whichever person was working on the recovery. After 2 months, they said they couldn't recover the data and offered to send it to Drivesavers. Drivesavers quickly said they were unable to perform a recovery because of the damage that was done by whoever had gone into the drive before them. Luckily I was able to find a specialty lab that was able to make a full recovery "digilab" and saved my data but I've been kicking myself over and over for ever bringing my hard drive to this place to begin with. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. If anyone from Mikey's reads this and cares please send me a message. I would love to personally share how much I hate your business practices.

so… i came here because my computer wasn't charging. They plugged it in, the power was glowing orange but the percentages were not going up. they were claiming that its the charger, then claiming its the battery, did not do ANY actually diagnostics of the computer at all. I told them it is not the charger, as i tried many different ones; and that it is not the battery as it works normally when it does happen to charge. The guys would not listen to me. I took the computer to the apple store, they ran diagnostics, figured out that its the logic board (video card issue and other issues), replaced it for free (2011 MacBooks have a manufacturing defect that apple acknowledged) and gave me my computer within a couple days with a new charging port to boot. Masically Mikey's hookup is useless unless you have a very straight forward question or just have to buy a part. WIth any problem that needs diagnostics or actual solving, don't expect it to happen here.

I had a wonderful experience this week with them! On Tuesday my out of warranty Macbook Pro had screen issues where nothing displayed. I was pretty bummed because it was replaced under warranty by Apple a year ago for free. I intially went to the Apple store and they said it would be $499+tax with them (after I waited there for an hour) to replace the screen. The Apple store employee recommended that I go to Mikey's Hook Up. I furiously rode my bike there Tuesday around 6:30 and was told it would take 5-7 days for a diagnostic which was $79.99. Anyways two days later I got an email that my computer was fixed and that they replaced the screen under Apple's quality program for anti-reflective coating delamination (the Apple store didn't even mention this!). In order words I paid $0 for a new screen out of warranty and Mikey's Hook Up refunded me the diagnostic fee. Anways, this shop made my week! Thank you!

Horrible service and staff attitude. I was referred from Apple to Mikey’s for my Mackbook repair. When i tried to make an apt they told me to come in, without any questions what is wrong etc. i asked how long will it take to repair, he answered 2-6 weeks when i asked if it can be done faster because i need my laptop for work he said to go somewhere else. He did NOT even asked what was wrong or made ANY slightest effort to help. The call was literally 20 sec. very off-putting. Terrible service, especially during this trying times when everybody depends on their laptops for remote work. Hopefully they adjust their attitude and train staff better. I will be making official complain with Apple since its their Authorized Service Provider and its just bad business for Apple to refer clients to this establishment.

I don’t use to write reviews for gadgets stores but this one is outstandingly awesome. I needed an USBC to USB converter for my MacBook and I asked for the original from Apple, but the people working there recommended me to buy a non Apple one which was cheaper “since it was already tested on Apple and I didn’t needed to buy an expensive one”, which I thought it was not the best business decision, either way they cared about me not spending money unnecessarily which is awesomely unexpected anywhere. I am totally going back to this store next time and going to fully recommend it. You can find mostly any gadget for computers and phones. Additionally, you can play Pin Pon for free .

  • alix deitz

I am really happy with my experience, especially after reading the other reviews here. I brought my laptop in and was helped out quickly. The sales rep was friendly and upfront about the potential costs and time frame, and told me I would be called before any work was done ( which I like, and not always happens). They called me the day after, well before the time he said and I spoke with the guy that was working on my computer so he could explain to me what was going on. He was friendly and knowledgeable and gave me some tips to keep my ailing mac book alive and kicking a little while longer. Overall I am impressed with the customer service and would recommend them.

  • Manny R

Returned my laptop to me with a ding they tried to be sly and file off and made it worse. Didn't fix the issue but tried to charge me $250 to send it to Apple to diagnose and fix, which I can do by walking 5 minutes to the Apple Store and save the $250. Tried to keep the $60 diagnosis fee even though they failed to properly diagnose (a different shop later diagnosed for free a logic board chip burned out and fixed it for $240). Finally returned my $60 "So they don't have to hear about it again". Well, they are hearing about it again, you were not gonna further damage my property and just get away with it.

  • Aaron Edwards (guncle)

You know the that IT guy who is an authority on everything but social skills? Well, he works here and in my case was absolutely wrong in the cable he said I needed. Other sale people are helpful (and listen, not just talk). Mikey's Hook Up has a lot of electronics items in stock and I want to support them for being the first retailer of this type in the neighborhood, but it's time and cost effective for me to order online or travel to another store. If you're in the area and are certain of what you need, then it's a good alternative to the Apple store. 2 stars for me, but for others it may rate higher.

  • Tommy Maggio

I came here looking for new headphones. Ethan and Greg walked me through all of the different options for my personal taste. They were kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. At the end of the day, I didn't make a purchase because this experience made me realize the headphones I have are enough for my purpose. I would 100% come back here for anything else I need because of the experience they created for me. They also have a great selection of high quality headphones and other music equipment you may not find elsewhere. Thanks again Ethan and Greg!

  • Jonathan Boo

Just had the best experience with Max & Greg at the Brooklyn location on graham ave. My mac was overheating from what I assumed was sawdust from my shop. They popped the back off and cleaned it up for me and everything is running perfectly now. Ports work again, laptop doesn't overheat. They gave me a bunch of tips on maintenance and things to look out for too. Love the friendly neighborhood energy. Will definitely head back and recommend them for any computer & tech services in the future. ✌✌

  • Jason Loewenstein

Why is it that SO many people who work in retail (with the public EVERYDAY) have such limited social skills? Its actually quite weird that they never develop any over time. Anyway, Mikey's is very handy for picking up audio and computer related things when you cant get to Manhattan, or you want to do business with a local instead of a chain. Just beware that you might be dealing with someone who seems like they just landed on this planet from mars and are uneasy with language and their bodies... LOL.

  • Elizabeth

Thank you again for the assistance, diagnostics, and recommendation to go to Hi-Tech Electronics for my turntable yesterday. (Mikey’s has tons of parts and cables but doesn’t repair turntables). I went to hi-tech and they fixed my turntable while I waited. Awesome experience all around. Thank you again for always being wonderful folks, patient, and super helpful. Glad to have mikey’s as a resource for so many electronic needs in Brooklyn. You always have what I need.

  • Matt Buder Shapiro

They tried to make me pay $170 to diagnose the issue with my computer, which they said could take up to 7 days. This was not including how much money it would be to fix the issue. Thankfully, I know a few developers, and had them give me a second opinion. They ended up "fixing" my frozen comp in less than five minutes. Mikey's hook up is clearly trying to boost prices to make up for the fact that their company is significantly outdated.

  • Taras Galkovskyi

Folks as Mikey's Hook Up saved my day by solving the problem my corporate IT department couldn't solve! In and out in 15 minutes, with a fixed mac laptop (had to diagnose and do manual reset of a batter), bonus points for vacuuming the insides! Incredibly grateful for you being in the neighborhood and will start using your electronics shop for my every needs - no to amazon, yes to local shops! :)

  • Masha Yakovenko

Horrible business. I came in with a problem and they basically dismissed what i was saying completely, did not believe my description of the symptoms, made zero effort to figure out my problem. Their current add says they are working with everyone form pimps to whoever which i find appauling and so would anyone who knows anything about young women being taken advantage of. Good going.

  • mathew scheiner

Mikey’s is and always has been great. They’re super happy to help you find what you need, and it’s a huge plus to have a store that sells high quality obscure [audio] electronics and computer supplies so centrally located. We don’t always have time to go out to micro center, as fun as it is. New location is great, I miss the ping pong table but I never got to play on it anyway.

  • Taylor Henderson

Been in here twice to have a computer problem diagnosed. First they they just told me to buy a new computer. Second time they flat out said they can’t help me with a problem that Apple support chat told me they could. It feels like the only reason they exist is to up-charge services and sell over priced parts to the rich bougie idiots in the neighborhood. Throw the store away.

  • Grace L

I’m not sure what is going here, but the guys who work here were really mean and degrading to me. I’m not sure if it was because I’m a girl or if they do that to everybody. It was really hurtful. I just was asking them some questions because I wanted help. I won’t be going back. I cried after I left. But it’s weird fo say that, because I honestly think that’s what they wanted.

  • Macartney Morris

Poor and misleading communications. Beware. Emailed to get a quote for data recovery. Told me to bring in the machine and they'd take it to examine it for a fee of $79, applicable to the cost of any services after examination. Drove all the way over, walked in and was told I couldn't leave it without agreeing to pay $500. Needless to say, I declined and left.

  • Michael Irish

Friendly customer service, but the markups are ridiculous. Just order what you need online. I hate to say that, as I like the idea of having a store in my neighborhood, but a 30 dollar USB thumbdrive cost me 87 dollars in store. And it's a 2014 model. It's just not sustainable to have a brick and mortar store if you have to markup this stuff that much. Sorry.

  • Chris Chan

Been there before to buy a macbook. Since those prices are pretty set, its the same price everywhere. Went there recently to buy a blutooth speaker. They mark it up above msrp. Msrp was $60. They retail for $69. They said price was above msrp because its the last two, even though its a 2015 model...fwiw, amazon had the same model for $43, free shipping.

  • Randy Thompson

This place is a gem! Imagine.... you inherit a record collection... and you have let's say a pair of Technic 1200s and just want to connect via USB to your new gizmo!!! Here is where the magic happens!!!! Also a great source for vintage amplifiers for a warmer sound!!!! If you are in Williamsburgh Greenpoit area check it out!!!! Ciao for now folks!

  • Kevin Lu

I called with a question about whether they could repair my 2011 MacBook. The guy who answered the phone was nice and gave me a quote on the spot, but counseled that it might not be worth repairing since it was an older model that may break down later in other ways. I appreciated the honesty. Would do business in the future.

  • AU S Giant

They told me they could not help me with my laptop because it was modded but, they tried giving me some tips to remedy it. Although, if they could fix it, they said it would take 6 weeks to get it back. I do realize we are still recovering from a pandemic but, that seems hard to believe. I didn’t get a “hook up” this time.

  • Justin Coombs

Mikey's is your one stop shop for everything you need. The primary benefit besides being a great local place with well curated inventory is If they dont have, it they will get it - and you can bring it back if it doesnt work out or u need something different afterall. Mikey's is awesome. I've been going there for 7 years.

  • Ikenna FuNkEn

really bad customer service and rude. I explained to them exactly what I needed. He tells me to wait. Comes back 30 minutes later and says "yeah, I don't know." Complete waste of time, and they didn't seem to care. Better off going to the city where you know you'll get everything you ask for and guaranteed better service

  • Peter Ash Lee

Had an older iMac that wouldn’t turn on and the Apple store told me it was obsolete and couldn’t be repaired. The guy at Mikey’s was able to fix it and teach me a trick to turn it on and wouldn’t even accept payment for it. Highly recommend these wonderful guys and I’ll definitely be back for any repairs in the future!

  • Chris Guyot

I brought my drone in because I had been having connection issues and been repeatedly unable to solve it. The guys at Mikey’s were super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They helped me solve an issue I’ve been wrestling with for weeks in a matter of minutes. Absolutely excellent service. 10/10 would recommend!!

  • LEE MANOR

Went there to get a micro SD card that costs on Amazon $12. They sell it for $43 !! this is outrages! almost 4 times the price! I dont how this place is with repairing computers but I have a feeling that the store takes advantages of not having competition. All the hipsters who live nearby, be aware!

  • Haim Shemesh

Great place for all your tech needs, Apple needs, anything in the modern technology needs, these guys are there for you!! Beyond that, they have so many cool things for sales. Vintage amps and so many accessories! Why go elsewhere?. Mike and his guys give great service!! I’ll be back :) thank you !!

  • Jesus Figueroa

It's a good store that has what you're in a jam need even you need an audio or computer cable. However, if i know I'm going to need something in advance, I'll ship elsewhere because everything here is overpriced. The nickname for this store my friends and I gave this store is "Mikey's Markup."

  • John Ried

I don't normally write reviews, but after seeing the selection of vintage hifi stereos and speakers I had to give Mikey's a shoutout. I was looking for a turntable, but I was also able to test drive some killer Mcintosh and Marantz receivers with different pairs of speakers. Super chill spot!

  • Kirill Filatov

Terrible!!! Never try to repair your hard drives here! Don't waste your money! They charged me a $75 non-refundable fee, took it for a week or so for diagnostics, and then told me it would cost $700 to recover, and they don't even guarantee that the recovery will be fully successful.

  • Aaron Stein

They got my laptop fixed but they were really suspicious asking for my personal passwords and then made me feel dumb when asking why they needed that. They made me remove it off of the find my devices and compromised all of my passwords. Don't use this service ever a complete scam

  • Mike Kuniega

Careful, they have no problem lying to you in order to make a sale. Having literally asked "there's not a new one coming out in like a week or anything is there" and then finding out they sold me the older generation at the same price as a model that had come out the week prior!

  • R.

Mikey's is a great, reliable computer fix-it store. My Mac always seems to break down every couple of years (knock on wood) and they always come to the rescue. Service is pretty quick (three or four days) and while prices could be a little cheaper, my peace of mind is worth it.

  • Peter Lurye

Terrific experience with an Apple Warranty repair! I was able to book a same-day appointment with them; the nearby Apple Store was booked up for several days. Computer came back more quickly than they said and in perfect shape. Friendly and helpful service as well.

  • Kevin Baskin

Greatpeople as well as great service. They fixed my MacBook air. It now works perfectly and it was a great price. I highly recommend and appreciate that they valued me as a customer. They also have other products and services such as amps other things for music.

  • Anthony Pires

Been a customer of Mikey's for years, I needed some cables, and adapters to hook up some speakers in a pinch, on labor day no less... they had everything in stock and set me up with everything I needed. Friendly, knowledgable staff, and they answer their phone!

  • Dash Winterson

Was looking for an adapter that it turned out I didnt need. Guy at the shop told me how to hook up my guitar to my DAC without upselling me on a cable and knew exactly what I needed to do with what I had off the top of his head. Integrity and knowhow!

  • Jack W

They did what they said they were going to do in the time frame that they said they were going to do it for a reasonable price. They were a little curt on the phone but I probably would be too if I had to deal with the Williamsburg set...

  • Danielle Martino

I've been coming to this place for years... they are always so helpful. Various folks working over the years dealing with my crazy questions coming from knowing nothing about what I am doing! Super grateful for this place!

  • Rachel Levinson

I routinely rely on them for last minute help and they always deliver! Nicest staff, solid variety of options, and they always try to help problem solve. Would probably go insane if I didn’t have them as a local option.

  • Michael Canfield

Clutch joint. They carry all kinds of useful stuff for Apple products and otherwise. Plus helpful staff means I know I can jump over there and get answers and solutions for my electronic issues. It's happened for me.

  • Lee Manor

Called to check if they have usb C to HDMI. They told me itcit $45 And on amazon its $13! Do yourself a favor and check Amazon first before you buy from this store . These guys have special williamsburg prices.

  • Ruxandra Bklyn

These guys are always helpful and chill. They've fixed over the years at least two of my laptops. They are polite, knowledgeable, and never pushy. I trust Mikey’s Hook up. Go if you need help.

  • Brenden Michael

Glad to have these guys in the neighborhood. When it comes to accessories, they've always had what I needed and at a fair price. Saves me the trip, and the trouble, of going into Manhattan.

  • Brian B

The staff was eager to help. Even though I had one main employee assisting me, he conferred with a co-worker regarding my needs. Felt like they were knowledgeable and empathetic!

  • Holly Dowell

Speedy, friendly, knowledgable! I was helped out by Harrison and even though my laptop was pretty much unsalvageable, he offered expert guidance. Thanks, Mikey’s!

Good selection of industry standard gear. I liked that it sold the items that real musicians need instead of the items that musical enthusiasts want.
