This branch just opened after a remodel all summer (to my knowledge). The grounds and outside look fantastic. I was never inside prior to the remodel, so I'm just commenting how it looks now. The front has a bike rack, and there is a big porch, but I didn't see any benches or chairs. When you walk in there are 2 sitting rooms to read in, and some newspapers also. They have ceiling paintings with beautiful chandeliers, and couch and chairs. Old fashioned parlor feel. Love that. There is a front desk where I got my Orleans Parish library card from Michael, a very friendly and helpful guy who told me some stuff about the library system. There is a side room also for reading, using a laptop, writing, whatever...a few long tables and comfortable chairs. Went up to 2nd floor via an old wood staircase that just impressed me. The staircase, not the 2nd floor. Upstairs has some book cases, and DVD and CD'S and books. Not really alot here, but it's a small branch. Computer room, some more chairs. Overall, it's a cool place to read. You can get things here, but not a huge selection. They DO take book donations, and sell books, so there's that. But, it IS a beautiful property.

This branch of the library is lovely. The building is an old mansion, which is large in terms of houses but perhaps small in terms of libraries. While this means the selection is smaller for what's immediately on hand the second you walk in the door, it's one of several locations, and you have access to anything in the New Orleans Public Library system. Their website is great, so you can easily look for what items are available and where if you want to be sure you get what you're looking for. The reading rooms downstairs are lovely (see photos). I attended a wine and coloring event and it was well-organized, well-supplied (with FREE wine, cheese, and coloring supplies!), and a very pleasant way to spend the evening. The grounds around the library are also appealing; they're well maintained, there are some small garden-like portions, and it has an overall peaceful vibe. It would be nice to see more seating outside, particularly in the grassy and garden-like spaces.

I love the book sale at the carriage house! They're so wonderful there. I haven't been into the library since covid started because you have to call and make an appointment to go in, even if you just want to pick up a book that you ordered online. I think that there should be an easier way to handle book pickups if you're not actually going to look at the library..

I highly recommend visiting this library. The moment I walked in, I noticed the cleanliness and quietness. I’ve visited quiet a few libraries and it’s not common to always get those two things. The staff was very nice and helpful. Thanks to Katy for making the onboarding process for getting a library card simple and explaining all the great benefits.

Such a beautiful place. The porch is fascinating to say the least. I asked if I could just drop by just to sit on the porch and the staff happily told me "anytime". One even told me that she used to come sit on the porch before she started working there. They also have old books that are probably hard to find but good reads.

I've used the Latter Library since my college days. Recently I had the amazing experience of participating in the marathon reading of John Milton's Paradise Lost, under the direction of librarian and poet Jacob Reisman. For many years I have attended the Poetry Buffet there as well, under the direction of poet Gina Ferrara.

Great library, the staff however, are rude and very snobby.I called to make sure they were open before going. They never mentioned that I needed an appointment. I had to wait outside in the heat for 30 minutes. I don't mind appointments, but tell me when I call so I don't waste my time.

Beautiful public library. Such a unique location, feels very welcoming. There's plenty of sitting areas for reading! The power outlets can be hard to reach but there's some in each room. Great place for quiet study or to get some work done.

Beautiful library with a great little writing room tucked away to the side (first floor). But my favorite part is the Carriage House out back. Great selection of used books for sale with proceeds going to the New Orleans Public Library.

I hesitate to tell people about the amazing bargains on books at their Carriage House sales, I don't want the.competition! If you like books be sure to go and take a look.

The library ia open!!! I missed you soo much! Must wear a mask inside and those librarians are watching. "Over your nose, please"!! Love having you back open.

Beautiful building, and despite the somewhat small book/movie selection, the friendly and helpful staff has made this one of my favorite libraries in the area

Beautiful old and stately mansion once owned by silent film star Marguerite Clark. A great atmosphere for lazy afternoon reading. Friendly staff

Favorite library in New Orleans! The book sale in the carriage house is the best — open on Wednesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’s.
