I was encouraged to try this place out when I saw the high ratings, but have left utterly confused. The decor is pretty, and it may be a cute place to grab a drink (although we didn’t try out the cocktail menu, so I can’t speak to that), but that’s where my positive review starts and ends. We ordered the chicken satay bao, the tofu bao, the mushroom bao, and the red Thai curry- none which I can recommend. The bao bun itself was not fluffy or pillowy like it should be and the fillings for all 3 lacked flavour. The toppings were sparse and bland, so there were just no redeeming qualities. Then the Thai red curry came, and the disappointment continued. It felt like they mixed maybe 1/4 teaspoon of red Thai curry paste with coconut milk, microwaved (some poorly cooked) minute rice, and served it up. The vegetables it was served with were fine, but that’s about it. We also paid $6 to add Satay chicken to the dish, but again, so bland. There was also a poor rice/veggie/chicken to curry sauce ratio. I’ve been to a few Asian Fusion restaurants before, and have had amazing bao, so I wonder if the positive reviews are from people that haven’t tried these types of food before? Also, at the end of our meal, I used the bathroom at the end of the hallway which was labelled as the accessible washroom. They seem to use this washroom as a storage room. There was a bike blocking the toilet, boxes of miscellaneous items, garbage, and random things in the sink. I made sure to double check the signage when I left to ensure it wasn’t labelled as staff use/ out of order because I was so confused. It wasn’t safe or functional for someone that would need an accessible washroom. All in all, a disappointing experience. I hope they can improve their recipes, because when Asian Fusion is done well, it can be INCREDIBLE!

I was pleasantly surprised with this place! I thought it would be another gentrified Asian place in the middle of a small university town but I had a great time here. They didn’t have the cocktail I originally wanted but I decided to go with a Sakura martini (I don’t really like martinis so I’m not sure why I set myself up like that, it was way too strong for my liking). We ordered the shoyu glazed tofu bites as an appetizer, the vegetarian mushroom bao and the Taiwanese braised pork belly bao, and ended with the spicy Korean BBQ pork . The shoyu glazed tofu bites were AMAZING, I really love tofu and this was so delicious so it definitely let me have a good start to my meal. The braised pork belly bao was so tender and well seasoned but I absolutely loved the sweet shoyu muchroom bao. The only dish we were slightly disappointed was the spicy Korean BBQ pork, it came a bit cold and maybe we were just stuffed from the other dishes we got but we didnt enjoy it as much. It was still yummy but it paled in comparison to the other things we ordered. I was also pleasantly surprised that they are a zero-waste restaurant! I would definitely come back here whenever I’m in the Kingston area

First impression: the restaurant is beautiful and would be a suitable spot for dates or girls night out. For some reason our table got “cold service”. In comparison to the tables next to us, which the server warmly greeted and gave dish recommendations(I think most guests were happy and well taken care of). The same server bare spoke with us when it’s our turn to order, my friend and I felt that we were treated differently. And it’s fine, I don’t like to chat at all. But when it’s time to pay she instantly got friendly and chatty. Tbh this is what made me very uncomfortable. The restaurant wasn’t so busy when we visited on the Friday evening at 6:30. But the service is incredibly slow. We waited for too long for the few bites of food. I wouldn’t recommend the Tofu Bao as the tofu was tasteless and wasn’t fresh. And all of the bao buns are not soft enough for my liking. I went home and threw up… I don’t know if my body was acting up because of the food. My friend’s stomach also didn’t feel good. Unfortunately, overall the restaurant let us down, sadly money not well spent.

11/10 experience. Everything was outstanding from start to finish. I recieved a prompt reply from their Instagram account when inquiring about reservations and they asked about allergies/sensitivities right off the bat. We were seated promptly when we arrived even though we were a little early. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The over all atmosphere was so relaxing, the music was very soothing and not too loud. I adored the decor, and everything was plated so beautifully (I had to stop myself from putting the pink chopsticks in my purse.) Lastly, everything we ordered tasted phenomenal. I asked my server to surprise me with a drink and she picked Tom Yam Siam - it was delightfully spicy and sweet. We ordered the shiitake wontons, karaage, miso eggplant dip, spicy Korean BBQ pork, and Bao sampler (tofu, chicken and pork Bao.) Hands down best tofu I have ever tasted. I did not expect the shiitake wantons to taste they way they did but I was so pleasantly surprised. I will be dreaming about those wantons until my next visit.

This place has done an excellent job for the target audience, the younger and hipper crowd, who are not there just for the food but to also have a good time with friends (and family) all while sipping on some creative cocktails and have a bite or two. I admire the owners for this and I think it’s very befitting the city of Kingston. We should have more of these culinary minds in Canada and kudos to the Miss Bao team for this. However, on a long Labour Day weekend with the house packed, the food was served very slow for two families with two pre-teen kids. My sister-in-law and family didn’t get to eat until an hour after ordering! The waiter was very apologetic though. The bao’s, wonton and karaage are good. I especially liked the sweet shoyu mushroom bao. The braised pork I found too fatty but taste is good. I didn’t care about the kimchi flatbread and banh xeo. The red curry that my sister-in-law ordered looked too saucy and they didn’t particularly enjoyed it too much.

  • Karen Jane

Lesson learned - if you go to a place with bao in the name, you should likely just order the bao. My husband and I started with the Crispy Shitake Wontons, which were cute and tasty but just almost on the verge of having too much 5-spice powder (heavy anise flavour). His main was the Korean BBQ pork belly. He thought taste was ok, but pork belly was undercooked and soggy/greasy instead of crispy. Nice presentation with various sauces. My main was the Thai Red Curry. Now, I love a red curry, and have eaten my share of them. This...tasted nothing like it should have. It was watery, and very sharp tasting, with a very, very unpleasant flavour. I can't even place what it tasted like but it was quite chemical tasting and harsh. It came with roasted veg that were far too oily but otherwise ok, and roasted chickpeas, which were fine. I did my best but ended up leaving 80% of it behind. Not in a hurry to return.

Excellent. My husband and I are new to Kingston, and we keep going back to Miss Bao. The service and food have been impeccable each time. Kudos to the front of house who were able to accommodate a last minute dine-in request for 7 adults and a baby. The atmosphere in the restaurant is trendy, but not pretentious. There’s an indoor herb garden, gender-neutral bathroom, and the servers are friendly. the food. The pork belly bao that they serve is comparable to some of the bao I’ve had in Taiwan and the Philippines. Seasoning is on point, and the fat is rendered to perfection. Vegetarians , the tofu bao is just as good. Fried crisp, but not greasy. The cocktails are delicious (and seasonal) and worth the occasional splurge. Pricing can be a little expensive. If you are looking to get cocktails, an order of bao, and a shared appetizer, expect to spend upwards of 35$ per person.

Such an amazing spot! I picked up takeout here over a year ago to try this place for the first time and just went back to dine-in with a friend. Being there this time reminded me of the excellent service they provide. Incredible communication, kind, knowledgeable staff. They inform you of the style of restaurant if you're new and recommendations on how to best enjoy it. They enquire about allergies. They quality check. They clear as you go. Theu chat as little or as much aa you like. Truly the best. The dishes are not only beautifully plated, but they taste amazing. Hands down one of my new fave spots in Kingston. They deserve all the praise! I enjoyed the mushroom wontons, tofu bao, mushroom bao, and red curry.

Miss Bao's took on the incredible task of hosting our wedding dinner and reception - and they did it on very little notice. They were extremely accommodating in creating menu options for our guests - especially when it came to guests with extreme allergies. Their staff were absolutely amazing at handling our rambunctious children and noisy guests - every person in attendance felt taken care of. The food, was beyond words. I have never eaten anything so delicious in my entire life. Their bao will now be a weekly staple in our diets. I cannot say enough about how amazing their service and food is - and their values of sustainability are equally present in the care and attention to detail of their space and menu. If you haven't been, please do yourself the honour of attending - your mouth will thank you, and your soul will be rejuvenated as you truly learn the meaning of hospitality.

I lived in Vancouver for half of my life and they have some of the best Asian food in North America there, but this place could sure compete with them. Everything is super authentic and the customer service is amazing. The food and drinks on the menu are always fantastic and really flavourful! I think the best part of the restaurant is that they get everything locally and sustainably. This just makes the experience a billion times better knowing that your food is coming from somewhere that you could go to and that they respect their customers and farmers enough to prioritize top tier quality. I have never had a bad dish from here and it is genuinely one of the top 3 places in Kingston to eat at. If you haven't gone here yet I would definitely recommend it.

  • Rob Edwards

The food is always great, the service is perfect, but Damn whoever designed this place didn’t understand acoustics. It’s crazy loud, and during Student season in Kingston it’s almost unbearable to eat inside. You can’t hear your fellow dinners speak. Back to the food, love the menus and of your prone to sharing it’s perfect that each Boa order comes in two’s. We usually order a bunch of variations and take one each when they arrive.I do wish there was a bit more variety topping wise, some of the Boa get a bit similar tasting even it the protein is different simply due to the strong flavours used.

Miss Bao is definitely an amazing addition to the growing collection of restaurants in Kingston downtown. Loved the food, loved their cocktails, great atmosphere and excellent service. For the meat lovers, Taiwanese braised pork belly bao is a must-try. I personally love spicy food, so I highly recommend spicy Korean-style fried chicken bao. Drink-wise, I tried the plum sour and matcha beer, both creative and delicious. One thing that’s really cool about the restaurant is that they are a zero waste restaurant and they have their own little in-house growing station for micro-leeks, micro-arugula etc. Will definitely come back and visit again when I’m around!!

Reviews are very misleading. Stopped while driving between Montreal and Toronto with high expectations, left very disappointed. Crispy wonton - nothing special small bites that might have been better steamed. Tasty dipping sauce that likely came from a bottle. Mushroom pate - horrible. Dominate taste was oil. Texture slimy. Fried rice paper oily. Tofu bao - I think they forgot the flavor. Bao bun, fried tofu and a slice of cucumber. Really?? Great idea poor execution. Maybe the non-veggie options are better.... At least it didn't break the bank.

I had to knock off 1 star because there was an issue with our reservation, but the staff were super helpful and managed to seat us on the patio. So other than going to the restroom I can't speak too much on the atmosphere. The food was incredible! We shared the deep fried wontons, bao trio and tan tan noodles. The service was fantastic. I didn't get our server's name , but he was great! Am looking forward to going back. And will triple check on my reservation next time.

The pork filling in the bao I got, the apple cider and the karaage were all delicious. Staff were friendly and the restaurant itself is very nice. One star off as the buns (the bread part) were pretty dry, and the mushroom Bao I got had like, three mushrooms in it and was mostly greens (very little filling). The portions on all the appetizers and meals are quite small. I’ve definitely had as good of bao at restaurants in Toronto with a similar vibe for a more reasonable price, though I strongly respect Miss Bao’s commitment to sustainability and to providing vegan and allergen-free options.

  • Belinda Fu

I had slightly higher expectations given the huge hype around this place, but the food was kind of underwhelming, portions were smaller than expected and the service was okay on a busy thursday. The best part of the meal was the pork and tofu Baos, and the appetizers were good as well. We were not a fan of the chicken bao, it was lacking sauce and seasoning, and I would recommend to skip the Red Thai Curry. Our dishes were not warm when they came out. There are just better places in Kingston for the price.

Loved the food, everything tasted awesome, the tofu bao was my favorite. Beet tartare was surprisingly good, great choice for an appetizer. I grew up in Taiwan and was really looking forward to the Taiwanese pork bao, I think it would have hit home with some pickled mustard green. Other than that everything else was on point. Loved the plating and dining experience. Customer service was excellent. Gave me a nice birthday surprise. A restaurant aiming towards zero waste and sustainability is a restaurant worth supporting, a must try in Kingston. I will definitely be coming again.

Delicious and elevated asian fusion. Stsff seemd somewhat clumsy-one server spilled my husbands veer on him and the floor, and then set it on the table without offering to refill the spilled amount. Another server dropped tray of glasses and broken glass bounced onto our table from floor and back to floor. Third server twice kicked my husbands foot which is in a very observable cast . Granted it is welcome back weekend for Queen’s and they were super busy and perhaps staff was new? Food was amazing tho! I would go back!

Perfect for a night out! Although a little pricey, I enjoyed the vibes here and the food was on point. The bao sampler was very delicious - the Taiwanese braised pork bao tasted authentic and brought me back to my time in Taipei. The ochazuke however, was a letdown... The taste was a tad too bland and I wish they used a stronger blend of green tea. Special note on the excellent service! Our server was very friendly and gave us good recommendations. We'll be back if we ever visit Kingston again.

Delicious food and a great experience! We had the pork belly bao, karaage, grilled pork, and Earl Grey infused cocktail. It was all so tasty and the atmosphere is lovely. A must-try for any Kingston foodie! Edited to add: it is very clear that the owner cares about environmental sustainability! They use compostable pasta straws and prompt for you to compost paper towels in the bathroom. I also think I saw that they grow their own herbs. Really cool!

The hours labeled here on google maps say 10pm, but this restaurant decided to close the kitchen at 9pm! When arriving at 9:05pm, we were quite rudely turned away, even though we explained that we live 90 minutes away, and even after explaining that we had been stuck on a ferry for over an hour. I’ve eaten here before and I know the food is good. But this kind of service is entirely unacceptable. I will never try to give this business my money again.

This is the best restaurant I have been to in Kingston in my three years here. The fusion food was excellent and unique. The service was excellent and attentive. The drinks are excellent and creative. And it is affordable as well-three tapas plates, two drinks, and two mains (we ate a lot and did not even finish!) for under $100. I have never left a google review before, but I liked this spot so much I felt I had to leave a review. This was really superb and I cannot recommend it enough....GO HERE!

We waited for 25 minutes after we were seated for someone to arrive and take our drink order! That said, the food is good (not Toronto quality but at least you aren't paying Toronto prices) and once we had a server she was very kind. Warning: if you are allergic to nuts you will definitely be missing out here as they are a prominent feature of many dishes. You can get the dishes without nuts but they won't be as good.

Delicious bao, specifically the satay chicken and sweet chili mushroom bao. Full of flavour and a lot of filling. The tofu bao was lacking in flavour and needed something else to lift it. I’m not one to leave much reviews but for my experience at Miss Bao last night I have to give a huge shout out to the owners. Over and beyond my expectations! Amazing food, great atmosphere and drinks created carefully by a true mixologist! What makes this place so unique also is the fact that 0 trash is thrown out!! They recycle and do their own compost with the food scraps. When your in Kingston make sure to stop in!! I ll be back soon, Thanks Again guys 12/10 Jay

Fantastic food! The bao definitely competes with what I've had in major cities across CAN / USA. The service is also top notch: I arrived a little early for my takeout order and while I waited, they talked me through some of the different sake / beer / soju suggestions. I also ordered a little too much to carry and they were kind enough to pack my takeout bags into a large box for me.

We ordered the Kingstonlicious dinner for my birthday tonight. It was a very generous 4 course meal. The pickled edamame could have been a bit more sour. The bao buns were really nice. We both really enjoyed the red curry with satay chicken. It was nice and spicy. I loved the poached pear with crumble. I would love to return to have dinner inside sometime.

  • Meredith Youngson

Love the concept. Pork bao were great…loved the toppings. The chicken karage wasn’t my favourite - pieces of chicken were large and chewy and needed more sauce to make them interesting. Smaller saucy bites would be best. The tantan noodles were good, nothing memorable - a cozy bowl of soup Lovely service and appreciated the non alc drink options

Dear Miss Bāo, Your braised pork belly bāo was completely satisfying, as was every other meal we ordered from your menu. However, the Far East Side cocktails were what made my night, just spectacular! Great decor and ambiance here; the food and drink delivers.

Excellent food with artsy look. The mushroom Bao is really something else! I recommend this place to all my friends who ask me for the best Chinese restaurant in town.

Truly loved my experience here! The food was excellent. The atmosphere was very fun. It must be said that the menu, aesthetic, and table setting was well thought out... As sometimes that can be looked over. Really loved the cocktails and Beet Tartare!

Miss Bao has easily become my favourite restaurant in Kingston. The flavours are insanely good and the service is always amazing. Have been there 5+ times and it is consistently great. Such a good vibe in there always. The summer menu is delicious!!!

Great food options, but the bao and the cocktails steal the show and are a must-try! Absolutely delicious and creative, the quality is superb as was the service. My new favorite place to eat in Kingston!

Excellent munchies! Had another great dinner there last night. Love the new summer menu but especially the small plate chicken and cabbage salad! Also their tom yum siam goes down easily, and their red curry. Love love love. Might go back today!

Cute place! Nice drinks and delicious bao. Husband and I got the fried chicken, and bao samplers with tofu, pork and chicken and the tofu bao was the best! Every bao was slightly on the salty side and the pork one was a liiiittle bit more

Home of exceptional food, staff, drinks, and atmosphere. A Kingston ON must go - you will not get better cocktails in the whole city. Aside from their outstanding menu, you will find yourself in a vibrant and upbeat but casual destination.

We LOVED our vegan meal here last night.. Had the Crispy Shiitake Wontons, Miso Eggplant, Szechuan Tofu Bao and Sweet Shoyu Mushroom Bao. The bao were jaw dropping good. I said out loud, "What the F is going on here" - it had been so long

This place is on point and a refreshing find in K-town. The food is excellent and well priced. There is a full bar with a wide range of handcrafted, quality cocktails. Looking for something simple, then grab a local beer and try out the

If you’re looking for something different in Kingston, Miss Bāo is definitely worth a try. The bāo buns are amazing so was our main course. Small but robust menu. I also appreciated that many of the cocktails have non-alcoholic options.

This meal was fabulous. Everything was super flavourful and well executed. The service and atmosphere were perfect too. We had the karaage, mushroom bao and spicy Korean pork. They were all very delicious. Definitely worth checking out!

Miss Bao is a little gem in downtown Kingston. The owners have created a unique variety of Asian fusion dishes served tapas style in a beautiful setting. All dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious, accompanied by some wonderful

The best cocktail I have ever had, Tom Yam Siam, I had to have two. Chicken karaage was quality, perfectly cooked and those Bao buns were fantastic. The pork was excellently seasoned. One of my top places downtown, 7 out of 5 stars.

Cool little spot and loved trying some new dishes. Service was a little funky but I think they had a lot of new staff. Some of what we tried was a little underwhelming, especially for the price, but overall we enjoyed our meal.

Good service and great baos! We were a little disappointed with the root salad but the baos were very flavorful (especially the mushroom) and the cocktails were amazing. A stylish spot, great for a date night. More
