This hotel has some really good points. The staff were very nice and welcoming, the housekeeping was good, my room was comfy and the rooftop lounge bar is excellent with nice food and great views. breakfast offers local food, which is really cool. I particularly liked the coffee bar on the ground floor. The location is good and the airport shuttle is very efficient and much appreciated. now for some honest feedback, which is meant constructively. To me, it feels like this hotel is very aspirational, but not quite there yet. This is for a few reasons. 1) the hotel has some great facilities. eg a restaurant, but there was no information about them in my room. Giving customers this info about services and how to use them might encourage more people to do so. 2) the hotel advertises it has a sauna and steam room, but as far as I could see, no such thing exists yet. I used the gym, which is mostly functional (some of the machines not working) but it advertises that there is access to trainers. I never saw one. 3) The room was clean and the housekeeping was very efficient - just sometimes the drains smelled quite strongly. 4) There was a notice in the room telling me to put valuables at the front desk in a safety deposit box and to fill in a form for this. I tried, and the receptionist kindly took and cared for my stuff, but told me that I should use the safe in my room, which is weird as I was literally just told not to do that. Overall, I would be happy to stay again, and with some improvement this hotel could go from good to great.

I am writing this review in the middle of the night (3 am): I can not sleep because of the noise caused by the building site located at the bottom of the hotel. Update: the day after, one of the manager made an agreement and the night works stopped. The hotel is very near to the center but it is literally in the middle of a building site. Apparently there is not a law that forbid to work during night time and the noise is tremendous. Me and my colleague could not sleep for an entire night. The elevator was broken at least 2 times during our stay (8 nights) and we had to use the stairs. This is how we found out that that the hotel is basically a work in progress building (lower floor). Do not include breakfast. I booked the hotel with the breakfast included but it is not an international breakfast. They offer mostly traditional food (which honestly I do like but not for breakfast) and it is not absolutely like in the photos on Google maps. I had to buy breakfast and eat in my room. Last but not least, we payed for a room with the park view and we got rooms with the building site view.

Building site with persons working during night time and making tremendous noise that you can not sleep.

The rooftop restaurant (lounge 360) has a beautiful scenery but their customer service is disappointing. After eating at the restaurant, I used their POS machine to pay and they had locked some amount of money as the network was poor. Because of that I payed in cash .This stayed for about 3 days when I finally contacted them asking them to fix this problem. I then got a confirmation message from my bank saying the money had gotten into their account and so I told them that I had already paid in cash but the locked amount just got into their account, meaning I had been charged twice. I went in person to fix this problem and instead of fixing it, the finance worker accused me of it and also showed me that there are a lot of pending problems like these. It’s been 5 days and I still haven’t got my money back because finance said that I needed the receipt but I don’t have it as I gave it back with the bill. I told them that there should be a receipt in the system but finance said otherwise and completely blamed the problem on me. I’ll keep updating.

I absolutely hated eating in the restaurant. No service at all. If you finish eating main course, no one bothers to ask you if you want anything else or even a bill. You're just completely ignored and it takes forever to get a bill. I even tried to get the attention of passing waitstaff but it's almost like they are trying to avoid you. I sat and purposefully waited to see how long I would be ignored after eating and it was well over 1 hour. Absolutely deplorable level of service. If you want to eat and not pay...this is the place to do it. No one will even notice you. This happened more than once. This is exactly why people should work for tips...

I have never been consistently disappointed by a bad service like Monarch Hotel. I went there a couple of times, and they have consistently managed to disappoint me in different ways. I don't know if it is a problem of management or something else, but these guys are bad. The staff were rude (just a couple of them, not all), although the building has a good view, the facilities in the building are sub-par. Not to mention their rooftop restaurant, which has the worst service in addis. I have never reviewed a hotel 1 star, but monarch fully deserves the 1 star accolade for their consistency in disappointing me.

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. The staff members were extremely rude and didn't even provide us with a place to sit while we waited for a table. What made it even worse was that when white customers arrived, they were treated differently. It's disheartening to live in a country where stereotypes still exist, especially considering that our country was not colonized. It's unfortunate how we can be influenced by these biases. A service should be fair to all customers, regardless of where they come from or who they are. It's disheartening to see a hotel perpetuating stereotypes.

The hotel has a good location. Cafe YUCCA is also well designed. They designed the book for the readers, and the cafe called YUCCA, which is located in a good location, and for the readers, and also for the book. This is good and encouraging. But their hot drink is not pleasant and satisfying, improve it. It would be good if the people in reception were trained in customer service and politeness.

Went to the rooftop bar for our last night in Addis and the manager prohibited taking photos with camera. They allowed phone camera instead which we think was really unreasonable. They said photos taken from digital camera can be printed out. LOL which century are we living in? Phone camera can definitely be printed out too. Will be leaving a very bad review in Asian community so you will be losing all potential Asian visitors.

Im glad this place was recommended to me. Great place, fantastic service at a decent price. I really enjoyed the roof top bar and the band. The 360 bar on the 13th floor has an amazing view over Addis. I really enjoyed my stay. Joseph (breakfast) always makes sure you get everything you need. All other staff as well, for example Lydia fulfil all your wishes. They make you feel welcome and home even for a short stay. Will always come back when in Addis. The room was really tidy and clean, you find everything you need.

Monarch is such a great spot to spend quality time either solo or with others. They have beautifully filled up the place with plants, partial outdoor setting let's you see Addis' skyline from the 13th and 14th floors. The food is tasty and staff are cooperative. House special a bit overpriced but delicious. ተጨማሪ

Nice view, The service was good, the staff are friendly, but as one can see from the picture, I've ordered a medium rare Steak however what I got was like a completely inferior quality grilled meat for a high price! Very disappointing!

It’s the worst building! Only one elevator works and takes only 5 people at time and half of them would be staff. It would take you 20/30min to go up with a long queue for an elevator. This is ridiculous! Don’t even consider hosting an event there or even stay there.

Nice rooms, highly recommended! I was pleasantly surprised, the accommodation was great. When I come back to Vienna, I stay only in this hotel. I cannot give a feedback on the breakfast, because I do not eat in the morning. There is nothing to complain about ተጨማሪ

The manager of the hotel bar (lounge 360) is very rude and unreasonable to tourists. He said he has this oral rule from the owner but I doubt if the owner would be happy if he does like this to tourists^^

I like the view of Addis from the rooftop 13th floor (360 Lounge). It's really nice place specially to going out for a dating. They have a very nice pizza. You can seat there drinking a draft too. Very nice hospitality.
