I have been part of the vandy family for many years! When my little brother had cancer and was there in 2008 Sadly he passed away but was in studies, I was in sibling study over the years, now my children all go and see vandy providers. I won’t go to another hospital. It’s a teaching hospital as well, if I have an issue with a doctor or student or nurse. I ask for another one. Especially when it comes to my child care. My children are considered medically fragile, every time we have had a stayed there it’s been good. We have stayed in a sleep room when my child was in the icu, our other children was able to come up, meals were provided, child life specialist. This last stay was just this Friday. My youngest had a cleft lip repair, dr Phillips has been amazing, his whole team. From the moment I found out about my child cleft lip yet saint Thomas couldn’t give me an answer I was 30 weeks pregnant, i decided to transfer to Vandy, best choice. My obgyn, Larkin was amazing in my care. They set me up right away in less than two weeks I had an ultrasound confirming, had met with the cleft team including feeding specialist, they have followed me for the remaining of my pregnancy. Obgyn sent me right away for iron transfusions, so now I have a pcp and my kids now all see dr Miller who specializes in Autism. Yet this past Friday was great and show how amazing they are, mr child had surgery and we had an overnight stay, all the nurses where amazing. Especially our care partner for the night her name was sara on the 7th floor. She would come in and do vital and check on us, if I was waiting and she was in there and I would get up to get baby, she would have me eat will she attended to him. Which it was a long day, she would come in a night and keep him sooth so I could get some sleep. She was really amazing!!! I had really good nurse who was also sara. Like I said it’s amazing working with the care teams that each of my children have. All my children are so different, and they have wonderful doctors, and if I am not comfortable with a doctor or I need to push because I am mom and if something don’t feel right, I do push, you get good and bad at times. Overall it’s been great and I will continue to come here and bring my children. Also the communication is good, using my health to be able to get a note for my kids is so easy! I don’t have to go up there, they also try to keep us close to home! Great job vandy and all of the care teams!

It's not a children's hospital, but a residents dream or training nurse. Training is always happening at the expense of actual care. If your child has a disability, this is also the LAST PLACE to go, particularly with autism. Their doctors, and staff are not trained in behavioral health and will make YOU feel bad for having a child with a disability over acknowledgment of shortcomings. Also saw the Chief Surgeon Upperman is licensed in Pennsylvania not Tennessee. Research any and every doctor your child interacts with, as well as department heads. Overheard nurses talking about salary, and max is around $18 per hour. That's why they hire inexperienced staff and claim to teach. --‐- Further review especially after comment asking to contact Patient Relations aka The Wizard. If I could give zero stars, I would. Our (Muhammad my son and my) experience has really propelled me to new missions and raising awareness for future parents. Speak up for your child who may be non-verbal. I said to physicians, my child cannot express if he has been traumatized by his experience here (over 40 days), and I was told, "Well he looks fine to me," by a person in "leadership" who admitted to no autism training in front of many witnessses. If you believe the standards are lowered because someone cannot express their needs: #1 - lack of humanity #2 - lack of awareness #3 - lack of concern for patient #4 - lack of sympathy/empathy among other many things. Dr. Upperman arrived after several attempts to contact him, including my son disconnecting from a PICC IV and doctors not showing up until an hour later to address it and then telling me to tell him everything 8 hours later when ny son was basically on the operating table. I don't know what's up at this hospital, but it's something and it begins from the top down. Tenured professors should not be advising surgery, and this hospital has a lot of gaps for children with disabilities. Do not take your child with autism here, or if you are admitted, request to leave and go to another children's hospital. Patient Relations is also the wizard of Oz. They have a main office with no one actually manning it and I was told all work remotely, so if you have a concern, good luck.

Hospitals are busy places with real emergencies. However, they are still within the customer service realm so I definitely would like to review my experience. On three different occasions I called Vanderbilt Children's Psychiatric and they informed me I needed to go through the Children's ER for a mental health evaluation of a 4 year old (I explained I needed a diagnosis on file for my nephew to get services from Youth Villages & again they reconfirmed my circumstance called for me to head to the ER). This was odd to me so I called the Children's Hospital ER and explained what I was told, they confirmed it was correct. When I arrived on September 1 around 12 pm, I was told the ER doesn't usually diagnose, by the admitting nurse, and that Vanderbilt Children's Psychiatric only sees those who are suicidal and self harming at the age of 4, by the doctor. I was told guardians typically start with speaking with their pediatrician for behaviors in children (I explained I have already gone that route and wanted more intensive supports in place). I spent six hours in the ER and did not leave with what I needed after repeatedly asking over the phone if my need would be satisfied with an ER visit. I'm not sure if this was a communication error, or whether staff are informed to refer all mental health inquiries to the Children's ER. Either way, I felt like so much time was wasted and I could've been referred to the Mobile Crisis, or provided another resource by phone, prior to going to the ER. I'm frustrated such a hiccup could occur when I feel I thoroughly explained and double checked if going to the ER was necessary for my needs. Not to mention, I arrived at 12 and didn't leave until 6 pm with my nephew. I appreciate the generic list of resources provided by the Mental Health team; however, many, not all, were ones I already had familiarity with. In all, most people who entered U9 were friendly, but I wouldn't want any other parent needing a mental health evaluation to think they will leave with an assessment of their child during an ER visit. :)

The staff were great for the most part but the stay was pretty rough and unprofessional in my eyes as a nurse myself knowing what could have been done. My daughter was transported via ambulance from another ER for appendicitis. She was in pain all day, tired, and not feeling well at all. We stayed in the ER the majority of the time, was moved twice, and when she was finally admitted to a room, she was moved to surgery an hour later. After surgery, we were in the PACU and I told the nurse that we had an hour and a half to two hours until her grandmother would be there. So instead of letting us go back to her room that she still had, she put my daughter in a wheelchair and asked if I was comfortable taking her, said we could go to the food court and stay there until grandma got there. So for almost two hours, my daughter who is still affected by the anesthesia, hurting, and tired is falling asleep and wanting to lay down because she’s hurting in a busy hospital in front of everyone instead of letting us go back to her room to rest until our ride home was there. What is even more upsetting is that there was an order put in to go back up to her room but it was canceled and we were discharged from PACU. As a nurse, knowing that we could have been sent to her room temporarily and then discharged from there but instead sent to the food court for her to be uncomfortable in a wheelchair in front of everyone for hours, is beyond disheartening. As a nurse, our patients always come first, and yesterday my daughter was not considered at all. We weren’t in PACU for 30 minutes before leaving. I’ll always be upset over this and the consideration my daughter never had. I’d never think to put a family through that.

I was there with my very sick son august 20th and 21st. He was taken by ambulance to them the 20th because he was very lethargic, rapid breathing, tested negative for RSV, flu, and covid. His oxygen was starting in the lower 90s and heart rate was through the roof. It took the ER convincing that it wasn’t just a virus before they accepted him to vandy Er. They told vandy it was the start of bacterial pneumonia. Once we got there they tested him for strep and did a virus panel to test for all kinds of viruses. Once those came back they looked at the chest xray and said it wasn’t pneumonia but it was strep and rhinovirus. They wanted to discharge us but we were there for 6 hours without any fluids or antibiotics. He maybe had a half of a sprite and oxygen was still low at 92 and heart rate was staying around 140. I told them I was concerned for his health and did not want him discharged like this and the doctor asked what are somethings I wanted to see improve before he left. I said his Oxygen levels come up, heart rate go down, and him not having to work so hard to breathe with his rapid breathing. He suggested the only was to do all that was to suction him out so we did. It improved his oxygen to 97 before we left and he was able to eat a cookie and we were sent home. The next morning we went to his pcp and she confirmed he has pneumonia plus the other two viruses and got him a higher dose of meds than vandy. We went back last night waited two hours in the waiting room and then left and went to skyline where they transported him to centennial children’s hospital and he was admitted last night. Really disappointed in vandy

My child is use to being seen at the 100 oaks location by Dr. Lloyd. We absolutely loved her but she left Vanderbilt. We were scheduled for an appointment at this location and was denied care after waiting an hour in the waiting room. We were seen by Dr. Merrill Mcmichael Stoppelbein. She was initially nice when she first encountered us. She asked questions and showed concern. She then asked where do we live and I told her an hour away and she walked out the room. Once she returned she told me that we can no longer return due to being “outside the radius of care”. Her mood shifted drastically. The rest of the appointment was rushed, she no longer showed interested and her mannerism was beyond rude. I’m not sure if we were being discriminated due to the color of our skin or my child’s disability (he’s autistic). This was not an issue when he was being seen at the 100 oaks location. I know at least two people that lives states away and go to Vanderbilt for care. I also know people come to Vanderbilt from all over the country so why would you deny a 2 year old care. With Vanderbilt being one of the top hospitals I’d never expected to be treated this way. I drive an 1 hour away because of how great his last doctor was and the past experiences we’ve had were great. We’ve never been denied care and I am honestly at a lost for words.I don’t usually write reviews but this was unacceptable. This doctor needs to be trained on how to treat patients.

One of the worst service I have seen here. If I could give less than one star, I would. I do understand doctors and nurses deal with a lot and it is not easy but some of the nurses here just don't care. They have don't care attitude. We waited for about 4 hours and still the only answer I got from the nurse was, "We don't know when the doctor will be in and we go by seriousness and priority. " . I told them but you have to give me some estimate. You can't tell me that you will keep pushing our case for 48 hours. We sat their for about 4 hours. We saw some of the kids, didn't look the case was that serious as they were playing (some looked serious but some didn't), were given priority even though came hours later than us. They accepted that we had been there for longest. Still not even a doctor was assigned. On top of that one of the nurse was soooo rude as if she owned Vanderbilt care hospital and she was god. So, finally we went back without seeing a doctor. They kept saying "We understand", but they really don't. My son had a cut in his eye (cornea) and if there was something complicated, the longer we wait the difficult it will become. So, fast forward 14 hours we still have not been able to see the doctor because the incompetency, mis-management and rude behavior of this hospital's nurses... I am so sorry people have to go thru such experiences...

The only good thing I have to say about this hospital is the nursing staff in the PCICU are great. Surgery team not on the same page. Being told that when her diarrhea gets better that she will go home, being told once she is off iv pain meds that she will be able to go home, being told that she has to tolerate the oral antibiotics to go home. Being told there is a concern about an abscess but then nothing is being done to see if there is one Taking 15 hours from time of arrival to get her In surgery when suspecting a rupture. Surgeon told us prior to the surgery that he suspected that it was ruptured. Putting in orders before seeing their patient and then won’t listen to their patient or their parents or even the nurses They are worried about the antibiotics being on a schedule but take almost 2 hours past time to give it to put in the new order. Taking over 2 hours past scheduled time for them to be given to put in a order for the pain medication after knowing they were keeping her earlier in the day. EVS not cleaning properly, taking out trash and not replacing the bag taking linen bag not replacing that Heating pad machine had to be requested multiple times over multiple days then when it finally comes it doesn’t have the right parts for it to work and then the nurses letting people know that it isn’t working and nothing is done.

My child has been here over a year. Goof up after goof up after goof up. No communication between teams. Doctors call and apologized twice as I recorded all calls for reference and they contradict each other. No clear coordination has gotten my daughter in a lot of trouble. Now they will not even return calls and have a consistently condescending attitude and tone. They know everything until it backfires. My advice record all conversations and calls. For simple cases this place may be ok, but for anything even the least complex I’d seek help elsewhere or it may not work out well. Feel free to reach out if you need specifics. 3/9 update heading up again. Just got a call from somebody who was aware of a procedure that was about to happen, and I had not been contacted. It’s a whole new thing that they’re trying to experiment and re-running tests on my daughter for the second time because I still can’t figure out what’s going on. I spoke with another doctor whose son had a similar blood disorder, and they ended up pulling him away from Vandy. He said, and sent them to Cincinnati because of poor service. If you have a blood disorder, or any other issue, this is not the place to go. Hi, I did reach out and speak to somebody. Also put another message in the portal, and have nothing in terms of a response and over a week.

In April I gave birth to my first baby, she had been prenataly diagnosed with a heart defect, but we were told she would be just fine after surgery. Labor and Delivery was horrible, I was lied to, quickly learned that mothers giving birth do not matter, consent is not something that matters, and scare tactics were used on me to do what the doctors wanted. My baby was in the NICU and PCICU for 3 weeks, only a handful of the staff were nice to us. Being the parent of a critically ill baby doesn’t really matter, nurses and staff have absolutely no tact. I was made fun of, lied to, harassed and disregarded many many times. It is clear that Vanderbilt doesn’t think families should be together or need each other. Many days I wasn’t allowed to see my baby, many days my husband wasn’t allowed to see our child. Not letting parents be with their child is a horrible act itself and can never be understood or forgiven. Our baby passed away at 3 weeks old. I’m thankful for the very sweet nurses and ECMO techs we were blessed with the last 4 days of our child’s life, they mean the world to me. The PTSD, stress and hate that this hospital and environment have caused us is unforgivable and not something we will lever forget or take lightly. I had heard so many amazing things and wish our experience had been like that.

We’ve been coming here for six months with our son for neurosurgery for a brain tumor, MRI’s, EEG, cat scans etc. We’ve NEVER once been told that we can’t all enter the building (me, dad, son, and his mom and stepdad) at the same time. Typically we take turns, two at a time, going up to sit with him, while the other two sit in the food court, and then the doctors allow all of us to come in for results and consultations. Upon just trying to enter the building today we were told by the screening manager, Freddy, that only two of us were allowed IN THE BUILDING at all and told we had to wait in our vehicles. When we told him we’d been doing this for 6 months, driving in traffic for an hour and half each time, and the DOCTORS even allow us to be together, and this is the first time we’d been told this, he basically acted like we were lying and simply did not care. He asked us for names of the people who let us in like we’re supposed to know the names of HIS staff. He was the most unprofessional “manager” I’ve ever dealt with. We have a teenage son with a brain tumor who needs support and reassurance and everyone has been very kind and accommodating of this situation until today. This is not how you manage a business, let alone the medical field.

Tried to make an appointment and drove over an hour to have my son seen. I called multiple times to make sure my husband and my son's 3 year old sibling could come too and was told it would be fine, so I didn't look for an alternative option. Upon arrival I was held up for an hour while I was told we couldn't come in, then told we could, then couldn't. By the end of it, I was being told canceling the appointment was unfair to my son. Being guilt tripped and lied to is unreasonable and unprofessional. My husband was told he wasn't even allowed to come in to use the restrooms during this time. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR FAMILY! They will lie to you then act as if it is your fault and your responsibility to fix! EDIT: While there my husband and I witnessed a mother with 4 children being told to leave her 3 small children at the entry way, without supervision, so he son could be seen for his scheduled appointment. Eventually, she had to send her son in alone. Personally I believe you should be told beforehand that your kids can't come. Leaving small children alone is not an option! And the nerve of someone to suggest so, especially staff, is unnerving.

Excellent hospital! My daughter has been here twice for back surgery, both requiring overnight stays (five days the first and four days this time), and the nurses, doctors, and all employees were absolutely wonderful with her and with us. They even have a teacher that comes by to help situate the student if they have a recovery that goes into the school year. We didn't have to use this service (our daughter is online with an out-of-state school), but it was really cool to have the option. Dr.Mencio has been a God-send! He is an excellent pediatric orthopedic surgeon and has walked this scoliosis journey with our daughter for the last three years. Thank you, Doc❣️ You rock❣️ The nurses are gold metal as far as we are concerned! They engaged our daughter with every interaction, talking with her and listening with their whole heart. Love the nurses and nursing students❣️ Even the food is good, and the nutritionists are interactive. Kudos, too, to the maintenance staff. Y'all have a trying, often thankless job. We are thankful. I hope we never have to be back, but if we do, we know we will be well cared.

just like many others have said this hospital needs to be more accommodating to special needs children. there are a few good staff members but there is a lot of rude workers there. most of the security guards are extremely rude. I pretend like I'm asleep when they come into the rooms for vitals and the nurses and doctors gossip and talk down on every other department especially the emergency department which is not very professional. half the nurses you can clearly tell take this job as a job and the other half are more career driven and more dedicated to their workplace. they mix up things and never write them down so you get at least 30 different people asking you the same question over and over and over. they say its a smoke free campus? yeah i had to walk a mile just to vape and then i come back and you see several nurses and staff by the garage elevators smoking cigarettes so obviously that's a joke to them. overall if i could change anything about this hospital it would be that they need to be more accommodating to special needs children.

  • The Good Life

If you like used car salesmen, you will love the doctors here! Big pharma really owns them but it's the same thing as a used car sales place. We explain we don't think he needs this, they explain why "They" think he should. The moment you consider it, they take it as a yes and are slapping out the paperwork. I kept thinking there will be a point when I can tell them, this isn't what we want. Nope! They make the disease just so they can sell you the cure, which believe me, they are making bank at your cost. The parking was awful. I just kept waiting for a van or truck to hit the ceiling in the parking garage which they somehow scraped by and they have this truly remarkable way of making the 2nd floor the 1st and 3rd floor, which is truly awesome. Loved this place so much I don't ever want to go back, but unfortunately this is the only place that services this device(like at the car dealerships?), so we get to drive multiple times up here, and if said device ever messes up, we get to drive again! Oh boy! I can't wait!

I have switched to multiple different providers not because we do not like Monroe Carell but mostly because we move a lot. We now ended up going back to Monroe Carell even though we now live in La Vergne. It was the best decision ever. It is always nice and comforting to have someone to speak to no matter what time of the day you call. Unlike our most recent former provider where they will say they have doctor on-call but when you call them, no one answers. Monroe Carell has never failed to answer our call and if ever they are busy, someone will call you within 30 minutes. As a mom with a 6-month old infant, I am at peace knowing I can get guidance from nurses and doctors whenever I need one. Writing this review makes me so emotional because I have experienced being helpless because no one answers in our previous provider. And just now I had to call Monroe Carell and I am just happy that someone picked up the phone and talked me through what to do. ♥️♥️♥️

Well dang, the first time we went and brought our young infant daughter it was a good experience. (The children’s clinic at Vanderbilt of 8th floor) This time however, was awful. The resident that saw us was great until I disagreed with her about giving my baby a couple of vaccines that I knew she didn’t need… like a hepatitis b vaccine and a pneumonia vaccine. After she tried to scare me into taking them she realized she wasn’t getting anywhere with me and she ‘bragged’ that when she starts practicing at this new place soon they will not see certain patients if they don’t get all the ‘recommended vaccines’. She pretty much told me well we are done here if you don’t want to be vaccinated. I thought it was unethical. I don’t think she will last as a pediatrician. I have been a nurse for 11+ years and I would never refuse to treat a patient or care for a patient based on some personal preferences. How disappointing how healthcare has become.

  • Rachel Fugitt

My son has seen several specialists here since he was a couple of weeks old. I have been impressed with every single doctor and office we have encountered. When its your first child and you are stressed about different possible severe health issues and they can get you in fast AND put your mind at ease by getting testing and answers immediately, there is nothing bad to say. We also brought him into the ER for a stomach virus/dehydration and they were amazing. We had taken him to a different ER originally and they didn't even know how to get blood from an infant. For them to get an IV going and for him to be comfortable enough to get some sleep while we were there was amazing. I honestly can not sing their praises enough in this hospital. They are truly amazing, no one has brushed off me or my concerns, and they really know how to treat their patients/families well. I'm so thankful for such a wonderful place to take my child.

  • Cindy Janeway

Absolutely the worst professional lady on 3/8/23 I've EVER encountered. My sister and I drove 3 hours in support of a family member, 4 month old having open heart surgery, never even got the chance to say who we were there for, told there was no lounge we could wait in, couldn't go to cafeteria, was told the ONLY place WE could wait is outside!!! We had previously inquired and was told there was a lounge and cafeteria to wait. Even if I had received wrong information there was a polite professional way to say it. We had driven 3 hours and asked if we could use their restroom, we were escorted there while the lady waited outside the door and then escorted us out of the hospital. I worked as a RN for many years and even now volunteer in same hospital, I GUARANTEE if you ever find yourself in our area and in need of a visit to our hospital you will receive MUCH better service than you provided

  • LaToya Watson

You know I had really high hopes for taking my daughter 2.5 hours away to visit the pediatric rheumatology department but I should have know when the doctor asked if we knew what she did... instead of asking my daughter how she felt. She made it all about her and what she "thought" and didn't review any of the labs prior to us getting there or while we were there. She had another set of labs ran and has not called to go over there. EVEN WITH THE LABS BEING ELEVATED more than the prior labs. She asked what type of labs were ran instead of getting the paperwork that was sent to her office prior to us getting there. Like how are we suppose to remember all of the labs that have been ran out of the month that my kid has been in pain. She could not and did not answer any of my questions. We left feeling defeated! Not by her but by the system!

As a patient here for 6 years it’s a amazing hospital. everyone is super nice and friendly I had to stay a few nights before and the food they give you when you stay is super good. they have play rooms for kids that stay longer with toys, board games etc for kids of any age. they even have waiting rooms for kids that aren’t sick ,so they can play while the parent is with the sick child. the ladies who draw your blood are AMAZING at their job you can barely even feel the needle. it’s a very decorated and pretty hospital, and the nurses are amazing for example i was scared one time to get a tube down my nose (because i kept throwing up what i was supposed to drink) and the nurse put one down hers first just to show that it’s was fine. if i could give this hospital more stars i would i’m really gonna miss it.

Thank you for taking care of my daughter today. I don't care of the drive is 3 hours away! I'll forever make that drive to come there. I'm forever grateful to everyone there for the help and answers I received today. After spending 7 hours in another hospital at home and still leaving without answers and my daughter still in pain with trouble breathing I knew something wasn't right. The care and due diligence from everyone a Vanderbilt is amazing. You all listened to me and were able to take the right steps to help her from there. The compassion of everyone who played a roll in today's experience there was unseen anywhere else I've ever been. My 5 year old stayed so calm and it was so reassuring as a mom to watch. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! You have us as forever clients from here on out

My baby died here. Gavin didn't have a chance here. These are the things I wished somebody would've told me. Completely understand your child's condition. Write it down... than Google the top hospitals that treat your child's condition. Reach out to them, and ask for a second opinion or a transfer. DO IT! When the fellow said, transfer survival rate was low, we should've ran. When they kept changing his formula, we should've ran. When they said he only had 72 hrs but lived an additional 4 months. We should've ran. When you asked them not to do a brain autopsy, because there was nothing wrong with his brain, and they did it anyway. You wished you would've ran and asked for a copy of that autopsy. Don't make the same mistakes we did. Run as fast as you can, you may have a better chance than my baby.

Let’s just be clear I’m ONLY giving 5 stars to the 8th FLOOR STAFF. Got here Wednesday night round 8pm from bowling green ky by ambulance. The entire ER staff was RUDE their communication was horrible even the charge nurse had a stank attitude. I kept getting told different things about my daughter one minute we was admitted then the next there is no beds then to get told we have a bed now. Once we reached OUR ROOM the 8th floor ladies was so polite their communication was as excellent they even apologized for the ER staff said they had several complaints throughout the night about them.! Give these ladies on the 8th floor a raise some acknowledgment or something! But then ER staff last night was HORRIBLE! They lucky I had my daughter OTHERWISE I would have been a total different person

  • Jessica Sefton

I took my daughter to the ER yesterday for fever and acute pyelonephritis. We were taken back immediately after checking in and triaged. Everyone was so wonderful! Shoutout to Nurse Jaime for being so kind and helpful during our ER visit. She and the care partner were great with taking my daughter back. APRN Allyson Bost was incredible!!! She didn’t force anything upon us, but wanted to consider the best options for my daughter’s care. Her fever went down in just 3 hours after triaged and we were discharged that afternoon with antibiotics to administer at home. I’m so thankful to be a huge part of the Vanderbilt Team and even thankful to have incredible staff take care of my daughter during her ER visit. Thank you all so much for taking care of her yesterday. You’re all saints!

Vanderbilt children’s failed my baby. We were sent there from Erlanger to get the opinions of what was supposed to be some of the best lung doctors. These doctors bearly even looked at my daughter the whole time we were there and only spoke to me once. They looked me in my face and told me she was fine and only need time to grow that she did NOT need a lung transplant. They never did the ct scan that my daughters doctors at Erlanger sent us there to have done and sent us on our way. She did in-fact need a transplant and was in lung failure if they would have just done the test we where sent there for and looked closer at her case she may have had a fighting chance at life. She was 8 month old, she was loved, she mattered.

My daughter just had knee surgery yesterday at Children's Hospital and they were all excellent. Well some of the people working in the food court where you pay were kinda rude but most people in customer service usually are. Dr. Micheal Dale was one of the doctors performing her surgery and he done an amazing job with her and explaining everything to us. The entire staff that we came into contact with was very understanding (because it was our first time there), kind, professional, and helpful. If my kids ever need anything medically done I would choose them 100% of the time. Thank you all for everything you do and for making this experience as easy as you possibly could. My family really appreciates you.

My daughter was transferred to the ER here and now I understand why everyone has such good things to say about Vanderbilt. ALL of the nurses and doctors were AMAZING but Dr Jacob Basham was by far the BEST. This man went above and beyond to keep us updated talk to me personally about what was going on and what he thought was the issue with my daughter. He actually listened to us when other doctors have brushed our concerns off, he made us feel comfortable like we weren’t just patients and he truly cared. To say the least he went above and beyond. Someone give this man a raise! He saved our sanity and we are so thankful.

Possibly one of the greediest and unethical hospitals I've ever worked with. They never call you and leave a VM as to why they call. You can make payments regularly and they still turn you over to collections before even speaking with you. It happens every time we are forced to go there for our kids. Parent's get slammed with having to take their child in all the time and the least you can do is not turn people over to collections just because you want your money with in 3 months. PURE GREED for a "non profit". Disgusting they only care about money not patient care.

This hospital and it's staff are absolutely AMAZING! From the doctors and nurses all the way down to the janitorial crew. Everyone has been so helpful and kind. I've never been treated so well in a hospital. We stayed 5 days and they took such great care of not just my daughter, but me as well. They went above and beyond on every request from food and dining to finding us things to do for boredom. I can't recommend this hospital enough. They definitely know what they're doing. Great job Vanderbilt. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful!

Vanderbilt has an absolutely amazing surgery department for kids. He made it all day fasting after his early breakfast without batting an eye. He had so much fun making friends with the nurses and surgical team. They absolutely loved him! And he had fun racing the nurses to the OR. They even let Bat(his bear)go with him and gave him a bandaid in the same spot that Connor had surgery (on his eyebrow). The anesthesia messed with his tummy a little and did make him grumpy, but he is so happy to be home cuddling daddy and Bat. My brave boy.

Difficult to be heard regarding symptoms of my newborn, was dismissed as a first time mom and sent home twice from overnight stays with an issuer that required surgery. Attending was not a pediatric doctor and belittle me what I was seeing in my 5 week old. After being released for the second time went to another doctor who listened and then referred me to pediatric ENT. After surgery, could not get ahold of care team for RX questions. All the nurses on the floors were great only reason I gave 2 stars.

After several years of treatment and beating cancer the hospital made critical errors and killed my child. She was singing and recording songs they day before. Feel free to reach out to hear recordings of the doctors emails from hr and an incredible amount of other info. I hope karma comes back to these inept group of pathetic people. Many have no business dealing with medicine Reply to hospital I did. They were quite rude. I have the recordings of the calls if you would like to hear let me know.

Non-minority, and parents that have kids without disability generally have a great experience here. Anything other is treated just like that. Beware and make sure to speak up for your child. They're definitely billing your insurance for every 5 minute chat, so make sure you speak up. There's no awareness regarding autism or disability at this hospital in the majority of staff - there are one offs - but majority are there for an easy paycheck and your child with special needs doesn't fall in line.

Once in here, they take control of your childs life and you no longer have a say so. They put my son on so many different medicines that his liver failed and we lost him in April. Do not take your kids here. I had multiple people tell me they like to experiment with meds and I did not listen. I truly thought they cared. I couldn't have been more wrong. I will never forgive this place for the loss of my son. And they will not own up to anything they do. Take your children anywhere but here.

The nurses and doctors were were phenomenal! The ER department was on top of prioritizing serious emergencies over more mild cases, which was appreciated. We ended up being admitted and staid overnight. The ER department and the floor were both very nice. Comfortable beds and rocking chairs in the rooms. My son was well monitored and everyone explained things to us. I highly recommend this hospital. The hospital also had very vibrant colors and beautiful things to look at.

My 5 stars is for Mss Ukwuahi , she is the best pediatrician my son has ever had , I have gone to vanderbilt hospital many times with concerns and despair and the only thing the pediatricians told me is: your son has a virus, give him motrin and tylenol, and doctor Ukwahi is the only one who has taken the time to review my son’s history and do the corresponding tests. I am happy and grateful to have found her. Vanderbilt should have more doctors like her.

We always have a great experience when we come here. This stay however, was different from any other time. Stella was so amazing in helping us. Even just the smallest acts (using her badge to open the door so we didn't have to wait for a nurse to let us in), she has been a Godsend. Even in her own time of grief, she was always so nice to us and made our stay so much smoother. Thank you Stella! We won't forget your kindness

On 2018 when I started coming to this hospital it was a 5 stars one now is a 0 ZERO stars. The slowest Children Emergency Room in the whole Davidson County, everything unorganized, nurses joking in the hallway while your kid is laying in bed feeling sick and rude staff. This is the third time I need to wait hours and hours so a doctor can check my kid. Take your kids somewhere else this place is a joke!

The Rascal Flats Surgery Facility is AMAZING!!!! Everyone, absolutely everyone, was so kind and caring and made my grandson, my daughter and my entire family comfortable and at ease. They really put the children first and provide everything to make the child’s experience there as pleasant as possible. I can’t say enough about how the entire staff were so accommodating to all our needs.

  • William Clark

This hospital is absolutely amazing. They are leading in children's heart operations and have the best state of the art equipment. Their doctors and nurses, the kitchen staff even the custodians all are amazing with children and they are so proud to work at Children's at Vanderbilt. They did my son's aorta surgery and saved his life without ever sacrifing ours or his quality of life.

  • Kenneth McClanahan

The hospital overall is good. The communications between the teams needs improvement. It is never known who is really in charge and no one seems to be able to give definite answers. They also take too much time to make a decision. Patients stay longer than is essential. I feel due to covid, all communications in every Healthcare facility I have had experience with has gotten worse.

  • Shannon Guy

Phenomenal!!! My son has Autism and we stressed that he needed a quiet area before his procedure and the first a.m. appointment. They went above and beyond! A nurse even stopped in the parking garage to escort us into the right area. Everyone we spoke to was so gracious and amazing! Wonderful! Thank you all for being so kind and helpful, especially to my precious son!

  • Dushyant Joshi

Been waiting in the ER for over 4 hours for a viral swab test without any symptoms except for a rash, that we were referred for by our pediatric physician. It says that door to discharge time is 60 mins for minor issues which I felt is a big stretch since it’s usually hours. Met another lady that has been waiting for over 8 hours. Very disappointed by the service.

  • Dustin Manning

First off I wanna say I appreciate the work and care my son got from this hospital BUT what you are doing to the families that aren’t allowed to come and visit or have a place to sit while there is a disgrace! For those kids that have blended families but only 2 is allowed back there is so heart breaking. I don’t think we need to use Covid for an excuse anymore!

  • J C

Dr. David Johnson Dr. Ramon Correa Dr. Trent Goodin Nurse Abigail Nurse Sharon Nurse Stacey And to everyone else who took such great care of us! THANK YOU. Your hard-work, compassion, and dedication to taking care of our girl Fallon will be forever appreciated. Ensuring our stay was was comfortable and she was healthy enough to be discharged. ❤️

  • Justin Ferguson

We took our child in for care due to lack of eating he wouldnt drink he was sicker then sick couldnt find out why so you bring them to a hospital right well this one decided to call cps saying he was starving even though it was due to unknown medical reasons worst place they even keep kids from getting transplants due to covid so stay away

  • Kia Vega

My middle son was seen there for 4 years with rheumatology and they were amazing. His surgery team was great. Then he developed seizures and they did an amazing job treating him and helped educate me his with reoccurring seizures. The staff is God sent and I appreciate them greatly. My son is now 21 years old and is doing great going.

  • Sarah Ann

The nurses went over and beyond for my family and our stay for our sons surgery. They made sure we were all taken care of. We have absolutely no complaints and are so thankful we chose Vanderbilt for our sons surgery. Jennifer our day nurse was the best. From start to finish we never doubted that our family was in good hands

  • A C

My son and I were there for 5 days last week for appendectomy and recovery. Everyone was so wonderful and informative. The nurses were so patient, caring and kind. Very thankful we are blessed to have a great children's hospital accessible to us. Good job Vanderbilt! Thank you

  • Krystal Cheetham

We came in last night after being sent there to have a procedure done and they took excellent care of my daughter from the time we got there until we left this morning. From the Children's ER department to the Hospital staff to the Children's surgery staff! Thank you so much!

  • Carolyn Hoolehan

The Nurses & doctors were All nice, but 7 hours in the emergency room & to be discharged with no answers because they don’t have a clue as to what’s happening with my son & they were to busy to figure it out. Totally unacceptable & I’ve Lost all faith in this hospital.

  • Nick

Billing department are incompetent. My insurance covered a bill for surgery and almost exactly a year later to the day I get a backdated bill I should have never received. They wait till the last possible second legally to send you surprise bills.

  • Andrea Mann

I am so grateful to Dr. Kavanaugh and Dr. Karla Christian. They are exceptional doctors who took outstanding care of my granddaughter. I am extremely grateful to the entire team in the Pediatric Cardiology unit. She received exceptional care!

  • Varun Gupta

Hope there would have been an option to give Zero stars. Don't trust the hospital billing department at all. They give wrong information and charge you extra. No one in the billing department has the right information. Total waste of time.

  • Marissa Romero

This was the best experience we could’ve ever asked for. My child went in for a surgery and the whole surgical team and nurses were phenomenal. They even brought their elf on the shelf back with them to the O.R. For some pictures.

  • Jullissa Tavarez

Amazing staff . Dr white , nurse Morgan , and nurse Jennifer took amazing care and were so thorough with diagnosing my son. The long drive coming to this hospital was definitely worth it . I appreciate everything you guys do .

  • Faith Luing

One of your paramedics has openly admitted to making fun of a DECEASED little person in front of their grieving family. DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR! I will be telling everybody to choose a different hospital. Absolutely appalled.

  • Taya Bedwell

This hospital actually cares about your child’s wellbeing and they value your wait time as well by keeping it to a minimum! VUMC has taken outstanding care of my son! We are so thankful for the doctors and staff at VUMC!!

  • Alondra Fuentes

My experience here was great! Brought my newborn into the ER for vomiting, we were seen in less than 30 minutes and tests were ran immediately. All of the staff here were very informative & caring.

  • John Poland

They try the best they know to do what’s right for your child. They have a friendly caring and knowledgeable nursing staff. They have a great staff to take care of children’s needs

  • Rob S.

After visiting the er with my daughter and getting stuck in a hallway with no care I can safely say I wouldn't take my dog to this facility, let alone my daughter. Stay away!

  • bhabani senapati

If patient has to wait for more than 7hrs+ in Emergency department and still front desk Nurse is not sure when we are going to get appointment? No words for Hospital Service.

  • Amber

Procedures and protocols definitely not what I would expect from a hospital that cares for children with a high ranking, transferring to Cincinnati children’s immediately.

  • Dave Miller

Me daughter received a Stent on June 6th. Wonderful care from the doctors, nurses and staff. Can't say enough good things about our experience!

  • Anjeela Thapa

Waiting time was 5 hours and more today! When I confronted them they said it was 4:50 min! God bless this waiting time for poor children!

  • Brooklyn Aprils
