My recent visit to Mount Lofty Wonga Park was a pleasant experience overall, earning it a solid four stars. The natural beauty of this location is undeniable. The lush greenery and scenic views make it a perfect spot for those seeking a break from the city and a chance to reconnect with nature. The hiking trails provide ample opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the area and soak in the stunning vistas. One highlight was the panoramic view from Mount Lofty, which was truly breathtaking, especially during sunset. It's a picturesque spot for photography and simply enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. The park is well-maintained, and the trails are clearly marked, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors, from families with young children to more experienced hikers. The picnic areas are a nice touch, offering a spot to relax and enjoy a meal amidst the natural beauty. However, there were a few aspects that kept me from awarding a full five stars. The parking situation can be quite challenging, especially on weekends when it gets crowded. It would be great to see some improvements in this area to enhance the visitor experience. Additionally, while the trails are well-marked, some of them could benefit from better maintenance, particularly after heavy rainfall. I encountered a few muddy and slippery sections that made the hike a bit less enjoyable. Overall, Mount Lofty Wonga Park is a lovely destination for those seeking a peaceful escape into nature. With a few minor improvements in parking and trail maintenance, it has the potential to become an even more enjoyable destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Despite these minor drawbacks, I still had a wonderful day out and would recommend it to others looking to explore the natural beauty of the area. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nice nature walk..highly recommended.. Mount Lofty is undoubtedly the best bushwalk around Wonga Park, or in Warrandyte State Park as a whole, and features some of the best views that Melbourne’s inner north-east has to offer. The 5.5-kilometer circuit trail is the perfect way to take in the Mount Lofty summit and surrounding area, without getting the heart pumping too much or taking up too much time. There are several spots along the banks of the Yarra River (just off the track) that would be perfect for a picnic. This made a great spot to visit with the kids on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The vegetation on Mount Lofty’s west side (where the first half of the walk takes you) is incredibly well preserved, especially considering that the area was only added to the park in 1997. The eastern section makes for a good comparison as it’s mostly cleared land but this allows for some spectacular views as you climb and especially from the summit. The walk begins at the point where the Yarra River meets Brushy Creek, which is said to be the birth-place of a Wurundjeri elder called William Barak. Start by crossing the footbridge (over the creek) at the north end of the carpark. Warrandyte State Park officially begins on the other side of the bridge and a well-defined gravel walking track will lead you along the Yarra from here. The trail is mostly very easy to follow but after your ascent, make sure you stick right at the two junctions to descend back down to the river. Once back at river level, turn left to retrace your steps back to the carpark. Keep an eye out near the summit for large groups of kangaroos grazing on the hillside. (Bushwalking blog)

Lovely walk around Mt Lofty loop. There are many options for shorter or longer routes. We took the longer loop that took us by water points, up to the top elevation with beautiful views of the valley and surrounds. Kangaroos lazed in the sun and hopped past us on the path. Variety of flora- mushrooms, wildflowers, ferns, stringy barks. Enjoyed the sound of the river at many of the rest stops with benches. In terms of difficulty- we saw lots of small kids doing the trail. There are some steeper patches but these are short, and it’s mostly flat.

Gravel and dirt track. No dog allowed. Most people seem to do it counter-clockwise in which case there is a steep ascent early on. If done clockwise, the elevation gain is more gradual but sustained. Saw a blue tongued lizard basking under the sun by the roadside.

Visited just before lockdown lifted as it happened to be on the edge of my 15km radius. A beautiful find, grants an incredible view of the surrounding rolling hills. It's a peaceful and idyllic place to stroll around on a sunny day and has quickly become a new favourite park! There are some very steep slopes around the circuit, but plenty of sections near the entrance are more accessible. Highly recommended, brings back nostalgia of the Windows XP wallpaper to boot.

This is an excellent hiking experience. No shade which makes for incredible panoramic views. It’s hot and sticky lending the weather which then draws out the flies, so bring a hat water and good shoes Parking can be cumbersome, but y’all will figure it out, just be a considerate to the next person that’s always nice ;) big hugs everyone enjoy

A beautiful place to wander and appreciate nature; flora and fauna. The tracks leading to the top of Mount Lofty are steep, although not difficult - merely testing. The views from the top are breathtaking, and one of very few places offering unobstructed 360 degree views. The golf club, wetlands and The Lodge look very inviting from the top of Mount Lofty. I highly recommend the walk for the sake of walking, having a picnic or merely capturing some stunning views.

It’s great walk around Mount Lofty loop, amazing views from the top, you are going to encounter yourself with wild kangaroos who are very loveliest. View from the top includes golf course, lodge and wetlands. I went there especially to watch plenty of kangaroos,

An easy-to-reach place with a rich ecological park, there is a park with kangaroos/all kinds of birds and wild animals, there are surrounding trails suitable for walking and picnic locations, next to the Yarra River, suitable for boating and enjoyment. There are limited parking spaces next to the park. If there is no space, you can only look for parking on the side of the road. ⚠️ Beware of steep slopes

This is a pleasant place a good hike. Although the scenery isn't superb but it's a very nice place to take a good hike. Saw some wild kangaroos and they looked very lovely!!!! My wife and I spent about 1.5 hours here in this Mount Lofty Wonga Park and took some amazing photos and saw some really lovely and friendly Kangaroos. They look amazing!!!!

Great spot not too far out of town for a pleasant 1-1.5 hour hike. Quite steep at some sections but worth the trek up to the top of the hill for some spectacular views. Pack some lunch and have it at the picnic table at the top of the hill. There's also a lot of variation in scenary throughout the loop and the path is very well kept.

  • Mehmud Sharif

About 5km curcuit next to Yarra river. Gravel path, not suitable for prams. Path gets quite steep in places. Wear hiking boots for good grip. We saw Kangaroos! River water was so clear and cool! No toilets nearby.
Playground
Swings near car park.
Picnic area
Plenty of rest areas for picnic but not under shade

There's a nice circuit walk with parts that are quite steep. There's Mt Lofty at 130m altitude and you'll go all the way down towards the river. There's great views of the golf course and you'll be able to spy houses hidden in the foliage throughout. At a relaxed walking pace, it should take about 1.5 hours! Recommended!

What a hidden gem, lovely peaceful place next to the river Not a lot of parking and no toilet facilities though Pack some good hiking shoes, sunscreen and a hat as you will get a good share of Vitamin D out there Picnic tables close to water great place for a relaxing afternoon Lots of Birds and Kangaroos

  • Jodie Elms

A lovely walk amongst nature. A 5.5km circuit walk close to the banks of the river. After walking a gradual slope you're rewarded with a beautiful view of surrounding valley. A steep decline hill to get back to the carpark. Most mornings you can meet the local kangaroos grazing on the grass.

  • J Nightress

It is a secluded place, very nice, overlooking the golf course where kangaroos are lying and playing around. It also has picnic tables and a good place For walking around nature promising a great view! There were also few people there which gives a very private feel.

  • Anthony Kamau

Great place to walk and take hikes. The gradient is steep and challenging. The climb can be done in about 1 hour by seasoned climbers for the 4 km climb. The reward of seeing Adelaide from above is worth it and also the cafeteria at the top.

  • Brian Car

A beautiful tranquil place to visit with seating available at various spots along the river. Popular for the walking trails on the weekends - so if you’re wanting to enjoy a more peaceful visit, maybe do so during the week to avoid the

Fell on my butt, got a little lost, and stung by a bee. Despite all this it was a great walk with magnificent views. Even had a kangaroo cross my path and give me a look. Would love to bring my family next time

  • C Barrett

This is a stunning location. The views are phenomenal. Well kept tracks and trails. Plenty of kangaroos. Access points to the river. There are limited benches and seating. Signage is all but not existant

  • Angela Bowater

Great hiking or just sitting and watching the sunrise. Kangaroos are plenty and fun to watch, especially on the golf course. Take care if driving dawn or dusk as plenty around the road.

  • Andrew OConnor

Ready for a challenge! One hour walk around and up Mount Lofty will get your heart going. Breathtaking view of Melbourne hilltops, wild Kangaroo, wallaby, wombat and Yarra River.

  • Steve D

Great walking track, undulating and scenic. The main track is wide and snakes not a problem. The ‘roos at dusk are in abundance. There is a toilet but you’ll need to look hard.

Beautiful walk, full of birds, views, bush and the river all in one. We were thrilled with the closeness to home, but the feeling of complete isolation. Well worth it!

  • Adam Luckin

A wonderful walk along the river! Then I climbed to the top and had a wonderful view of the golf club and surrounding area - see my photos!

  • James Lim

The paths near the river are very beautiful! A great hike around with a decent amount of shade in the lower sections

  • chloe feng

Gangs of grey kangaroos here to see, they are very cute. Do put on lots of sunscreen, not much shades for walking.

  • Charmaine Trimble

Incredible walk. Worth the effort with amazing views and wildlife. Make sure you travel clockwise in the loop.
