"I love Mountain View Cemetery and I walk and run with my dogs on leash daily and remember those that have passed"
"- I grew up living right on Fraser Street at about where 34th Avenue would have been - if it had been a constructed road - right across from the Mountain View cemetery - the old cemetery office and works yard was located at 33rd Avenue and Fraser Street right near where we lived - the property was approximately an acre in size - the office was a huge old house - very well kept - it was torn down in the mid 1960's and an A&W was constructed on the Fraser Street side of the property - 5 houses were built on the Chester Street East side of the property - sadly when the old house was torn down a beautiful old Vancouver heritage home was destroyed - if it happened today that house would have been saved and on the Vancouver Historical Society preservation list - would be interesting to know the history of the property before it was used as the cemetery office - one thing the neighbours living there all agreed on - we had a lot of "quiet neighbours"!"
"Beautiful and well kept cemetery"
"I was here for a recent internment with close friends and family"
"I spent over five hours in the Horne Section photographing headstones and during that time observed at least 12 dogs running freely amongst the graves"
I love Mountain View Cemetery and I walk and run with my dogs on leash daily and remember those that have passed. Today at 8.45 am I was doing my usual walk on the public paths and I was blocked on by a staff member and abusive words were said to me and threatening body language. I could not see what he was doing until I was right up to him (he was placing a plaque on the wall) and there was no sign saying path closed. I went to the office to share what happened as I was really upset and felt threatened. The General Manager greeted me and I explained what happened and he scoffed at me and said he is doing an "internment", it is an active cemetery and now you know you should just avoid staff as he was putting ashes to an enclosed place. He said lots of other condescending things. He would not listen or take on any of my suggestions. I said I did not know this was going on it would be really helpful to put up a sign to explain what is going on and close the pathway to protect staff and also educate the public. He just said there are general signs saying this is an active cemetery and staff are at work. I tried to explain again that when important work like an "internment" are going on the pathway should be closed. He also went on how people in general are disrespectful to the cemetery using it for recreation. I would like to point out the General Manager actively rents it out to movie productions - I think that is a lot more disrespectful than walking your dog daily in the cemetery to enjoy the day and pay your respect to all those that have passed. A very very upsetting experience. I love the cemetery but and it is a very loved space in Vancouver to remember so many people who have fought for our country and loved ones. But the General Manager is very disrespectful that this is a public place and he has a delicate and important role to make sure the space is respected for those that have passed, protect his working staff and protect and educate the public. I would not chose to be buried or remembered at this cemetery with such a disrespectful General Manager in place. Shame.

Beautiful and well kept cemetery. I am here on a daily basis to spend time with a lost loved one. This is not a park or a place to take a leisurely bike ride, a jog, a stroll or to walk your dog. People’s loved ones are buried here to Rest In Peace. Please be respectful and consider not treating this area as a park. Yesterday I saw someone using the grounds to learn how to drive. They had an L on the back of their car and were doing rounds throughout the cemetery grounds before venturing out onto the road with their “teacher” in the car. It was very upsetting. I’m sure many people don’t intentionally mean to be disrespectful but please consider that it can come across that way. There is plenty of parks and other scenic routes in the city. Use them and not the cemetery.
I was here for a recent internment with close friends and family. I noticed that the staff were very open to answering questions and also respected our cultural traditions with regards to burning incense and when the niche stone was put on they did a quick respectful bow. I appreciated the fact that they took the time to do all these small little things. Thank you to the staff at Mountain View for your inclusive and welcoming attitude.
I spent over five hours in the Horne Section photographing headstones and during that time observed at least 12 dogs running freely amongst the graves. I don't have a real issue with the dogs frolicking over the graves but I am appalled that owners allow their dogs to defecate on the graves and do not pick up the waste! Disrespectful slobs.
Favourite route to cycle thru on way home from vegie buffet dinner @ All India Sweets Restaurant & shopping @ Persia Market (Main & East 49th Ave.) Enter at south end (@East 43rd Ave)---across 41st Ave, & all way down-&-thru /south past East 33rd Ave---taking exit west to Prince Edward St passing thru armed services memorial section.
Well maintained peaceful place (if you're dead it doesn't matter if it's peaceful, does it?) to walk, learn to ride a bike on the paved paths, meditate, and pay respects (especially to all the war dead). In a noisy city this is a good place to get away for a while. And if you are fortunate enough to be buried here, well, lucky you.
I required some information regarding a family issue and the service provided was exceptional. Deanna was extremely professional, with her manner, her advice and she solved my issue. Given the nature of these services it takes a special and empathetic person, and I was very impressed with her and Mountain View.
One of the nicest places to walk. It is calm and gorgeous, a lovely place to spend quiet time. The views it offers of the North Shore Mountains are panoramic. The "middle" section of the cemetery is especially beautiful in early autumn as the walkways are lined with deciduous trees.
It is a nice cemetery where my sister was laid to rest. I visit her columbaria almost every week and bring a bunch of flowers. Most often, when I come back the next week, the flowers are in another columbaria! The residents might be dead, but the flowers come alive!
Beautiful, serene and peaceful. The tranquil resting grounds of the deceased. Our family enjoys walking here during the transition of the seasons, or during Fall. Photos don't really capture the unparalleled beauty of the changing colors of Fall..
I think it is a beautiful cemetery. It's a great place to walk through and they have a nice section for those who have fallen fighting for our freedom. I would imagine if someone wants to be buried in Vancouver that they would like being
A huge THANK YOU to Rachel who had an unmarked gravesite marked for us in record time so I could visit a 2X gr. grandmother and some of her family before returning to Ontario. Your friendly helpful service was gratefully accepted.
The Grounds are kept immaculate, Many old graves, lots of historic Vancouverites. Some old, ornate mausoleums. A VERY proud, private area for fallen Veterans, also very well kept. It's a little bubble of quiet in a very busy city.
I take my dog for walks out here, take a walk in the mornings here myself, and come here to clear my head sometimes. It's beautiful, it's serene and it's peaceful. Thankful that I live close by.
You could find very old gravestones, maintained and kept neatly. There’s so much life over there, great view when I visited during summer, and I’m sure it will be pretty amazing during fall.
The cemetery is quite nice and we saw the celebration hall. It's too bad we couldn't get the date we wanted for the memorial service. But staff was pleasant and helpful.
They are very professional and as they belong to the city, they don’t pitch like sales. I was helped by Diana and Daryl. They are awesome!!! Thank you very much!!!
Beautiful views of the north shore mountains. Nice place to go for a quiet walk. Looks different but stunning in every season.
Beautiful, peaceful, respectful and wonderful community events. This place is also full of facinating Vancouver history.
Beautiful place to spend one's eternal rest. The memorials for All Souls were very moving and spiritual.
