Been to a Number of Mozambik Restuarants and they are Amazing as for Hillcrest it was Shocking. The Food was Appalling, the Service Rushed and they wanted you out. The Restuarant was practically Empty. Now I know why. It had just turned 9pm and we where made to feel like an inconvenience. Chairs where being put on Tables lights being Switched off, I could understand the wanting to Leave if it was late but 9pm on a Saturday. Thats Shocking. A number of things ordered never came we reminded them about this and 10 minutes later a Gloop of Seafood which had obviously been Microwaved arrived, it was unedible!! As for the Steak! I dont know where they buy their sinew from but after chewing it to the point where my jaw was in agony I attempted to eat it, only for it to get stuck half way down my throught where I had to physically stick my hand down my throught and yank it out before I ended up in A&E. I suggest going to another Mozambik Restuarant where the Food and Experience is Amazing. So Sad that the Hillcrest Branch Destroys the Name of this amazing chain of Restuarants. If it was the 1st Mozambik I had been to I would never go to this Chain of Restuarants Again. Such a Pity.

It is not my nature to complain publicly, especially when the food was so good, but nobody answered my email. I have been eating at Mozambik for many years, although, since 2020, we more often eat Mozambik food at home. I have always loved your food and your chicken livers are the best. We stopped in on the weekend and placed an order. I came back later to pick up. This was the first time I have been disappointed at your restaurant. I ordered the livers as always. If there were 6 bits of liver in the box then I was lucky. In the past the livers are in tin foil to keep them warm, this time - almost cold. And I was well within the 25 minutes I was advised to pick them up. I thought about driving back but I got lazy. This is not a complaint about the quality, the livers were as good as always. There just wasn't enough to warrant paying R60+ Please don't disappoint again!. Added 9/5/23: Just notified of 1000 views on this post - I thought I should add something here - The Mozambik manager completely replaced this with a full box of the same quality they always give. All happy now. I hope none of the 1000 views were put off by my post.

We were greeted by a friendly face, he took his time to let us decide where to sit, as it was a few of us we got a nice table to fit us all. The waiter took time to explain the meals to us and recommended others. I ordered from the winter menu, the cheesy garlic roll,stuffed with chourico sausage and cheese was absolutely to die for, not dry at all, it almost melts into your mouth. Next was the peri peri prawn pasta, which was mouth watering, we took ours mild, so it has a nice kick, but not too hot. And of course the best thing on the menu (for me) is their coconut rice with BBQ chicken. We also tried a dish which I can explain as a seafood cottage pie (sorry I forgot it's name) also from the winter menu which was also amazing and cheesy. For drinks I had hot chocolate (it was a bit watery) and a gin cocktail. All in all it was a lovely lunch and I wish the winter menu can continue . I give them 5 stars for everything, but I cant complain about anything

Celebrated my husbands birthday on the 3 July 2022 - 12 guests plus 2 - table was booked a few weeks ago to be seated on the verandah- but table was set on the inside upon our arrival service was slow- pleasant waitress but I guess an assistant would of been good . Manager did not show any interest or check on how we were doing. Orders were also mixed up. side portions extremely small and steak is a big No! Chicken and prawn ok but will not go there again. We've eaten there many times and it's always been pretty good. The service is always excellent but this time the food fell short. We both had Kingklip Zambeziana (SQ) and it was quite fishy and a huge blood line running through the middle, not very tasty, my husband left most of it. They used to serve it with wasabi mashed potatoes but now you have a choice of fries, veg or rice, they gave us both veg and rice. We had a juice and 2 G&T's our bill was quite shocking for two people, almost R700 I think we'll skip this place in the future. If I'm going to spend that much money the food should be 5 star. Total disappointment.

We arrived at 18h30 and some people in the party of 4 got their food at 20h00 . It was imediately sent back because it was cold . The food was returned warmed up but still one person did not get their food untill about 15mins later . Manager was very apologetic but not able to do much other than offer a complimentary drink . Espetadas were very underwhelming and looked more like a sosasti and my vegetables were very undercooked as I guess it was to do with my order going missing. We did not stay for desert! It's a pity because I had heard good things about this restaurant but our experience was not acceptable

Had a Proper Dinner with the Fam, celebrating a Birthday. Started with Jugs of R&R's which were TOPS . Ordered our dinner, Everyone was Happy, bully chose the hot Peri peri chicken, prawns & chips option and was sweating but LOVED IT, he couldnt finish as there was too much food. I ordered the hot peri peri , chips & calmamari, SO GOOD I smashed it!! The portions were plentiful and the price fair. The service was Excellent, the staff are pleasant and on cue and the vibe is awesome. Keep up the awesome service & foods !!!

The waitrons service was excellent, however the food took a very long time to be served to us, over 45 minutes and the waiter made a mistake with my order and I had to wait a further 15 minutes, we normally visit Mozambik at the pearls in umhlanga and there is a huge difference with the quality and also portion size of the food between both restaurants, at Mozambik hillcrest, the medium prawns are half the size of the medium prawns at Mozambik the pearls. My wife and I went for a Wednesday lunch. We made reservations and spoke to Lara and immediately saw that smile over the phone! Thompson guided us through the menu and we decided on the prawn special...great choice...fresh and well balanced. Peri peri sauce was outstanding! At the end of our lunch Lara came over to greet us...what a delightful person. Well we sat and spoke about the restaurant and were joined by Brad her husband. Little did we know they were the owners! The passion and love for the staff, the restaurant and the industry made our visit. Thanks always!

The quality of food and service keeps changing. My second last visit was a disaster. We waited 90 minutes for our food. My partners food was taken back by the manager who indicated that he was not satisfied with it and we then waited another 45 minutes for her new dish to arrive. My last visit a week ago was much better; good service and my dish was up to the usual standards. Well done guys. I had lunch with you again today and the food was up to the same standard I had become used to

Service was friendly and we had a fantastic shared platter which was good value with variety and great taste. However my experience was marred by the surprisingly expensive alcoholic ginger beer which was charged out at R59 a pop which I believe is very overpriced, I felt a bit ambushed to be quite honest, one doesn't want to sound cheap by asking the price of everything but R171 for 3 drinks? I found the menu quite pricey relative to Durban, maybe it's a Hillcrest thing?

Nice environment very relaxed and informal. Menu is good with options for vegetarians and vegans. Also catering for children. Nice option for a relaxed get together. Wheelchair access although the bathroom access might be tricky.

Service was a little slow but the food was good. When there was a issue with a dish, the manageress took great pleasure in throwing the waitress under the bus which was rather unprofessional. Other than that, we had a pleasant evening. Edit. I did have contact with management when they asked what my issue was with regard to my Google review. I never recieved any sort of comment or feedback thereafter so I suspect the comments on said reviews are only lip service.

Hi, Not sure on how you size you prawns but they do not comply to the norm. Your squid heads are way over fried. Why do you serve 5 mussels on a platter for 2? The mussels must be the tiniest ones I have eaten. The price for the seafood platter for 2 is a rip off, I can buy 4kg of prawns for the same price. You have let the Portuguese nation down. Was abit quiet tonight but the food was still very good despite myself not having the highest of hopes for the place. I had the snails to start and the flavors of the sauce matched very well. I was abit greedy so ordered prawns for the table but instead of sharing that was my main. My only complaint was that the cocktails where abit lack lust i feel they could flare up thier drinks menu abit more. Other Than that I would definitely return.

The food was very good but the service was very bad.the table next to us was served before ourselves even though we were there before them. They left another couple arrived they were served and left just after our food was served. We then waited at least 45 minutes for 2 of our table to have a creme Brulee. Like to go there again but service must be improved otherwise it will be the last time. Sincerely hope this helps. Les Fleming.

I had prawns for supper. They were extremely friendly, great service, and really good prawns and chips. They were happy to accommodate a dietary preference. It was quite evident that the other diners were also enjoying themselves. A surprisingly enjoyable restaurant.

We had a lovely night with great service. In the past we have not had amazing experiences here, but were pleasantly surprised to see improvements. The food is great Portuguese style seafood, with some delicious options for those that don't enjoy seafood. Being a huge fan of prawns and calamari, they have great platters to give you a bit of everything. Highly recommend the peri peri chicken and of course the R&R cocktail.

Had the best time here! The food was SO yummy and the service superb. Couldn’t have asked for a better double date location.

Fantastic experience. Ate there a couple of days ago with my wife. Her per-peri chicken was tender and tasty along with the coconut rice and crunchy vegetables. I had the calamari and chicken liver combo which was delicious. The peri-peri sauce was some of the best I have ever had. The service was great and the owner was very professional and friendly. We can't wait to go back.

Has become my favorite Restaurant in Durban and the Suburbs. The meals are fantastic, and inexpensive. Great place to go. Really recommend

I highly recommend Mozambik for the greatest food in town, they have an awesome and diverse menu, the decor in the restaurant is lovely, you can sit inside or on the enclosed balcony. Nice friendly staff. Oh I can highly recommend their Rum & Raspberry, order it by the glass or by a jug for the whole table to share, it’s absolutely delicious everyone enjoys it!

It's was my first time at one of the Mozambik restaurants. I expected a bit more in the way of taste and flavor of the food. The coffee what a bit of a letdown but the owners were aware and asked me how they could improve. I would definitely come back and recommend this place just because they want to do better.

This must be one of the worst restaurants in the area. Expensive Message to management get yourself plain beer glasses. If you serve a beer like Windhoek serve it in a Windhoek glass don't bring the beer in a Glass with another brewery on it. Unprofessional. Your prego rolls are tasteless. This time last year went on our first date here. Food was amazing. Sat outside talking until 2 in the morning. That was amazing. Tonight went back for one year anniversary. I have to say food was even better than last year. Nice vibe and extremely pleasant staff who go out of their way to help. It is so worth the money spent. 10 out of 10.

Found hair in my prawn curry politely asked them for a new plate of food but they instead gave me the same plate of food with more sauce. I could tell because of the salt and pepper content. When they saw this review they asked me to email them but never replied to my email. Why bother replying to a review when you won't attend to it.?

Very difficult one for me to rate - loved the food, fantastic service from Phumi... my concern is the pricing - very overpriced for portion size... On that basis alone I don't think we will be back...

Thoroughly enjoyed our evenung and only aware of there being no power because outside was so dark. Lack of power did not comprise our meals at all. Food was good but sadly, not too much grabbed my fancy as I don't eat a lot of the food on the menu but those that had the seafood saod it was great.

We went for dinner as a group of eight ladies. A very laid back, upbeat atmosphere.Everyone enjoyed their various meals and have dined their frequently. It was quiet on a Thursday but there was still a car guard, a necessity these days. Service was prompt. On the whole a most enjoyable evening.

Absolutely low grade service. Meals took over an hour to be served and the kids meals came 15minutes later. Waiter was avoiding our table. Only when I walked up to him and queried, he tells me that there's a problem in the kitchen. Prawn and steak meal was overcooked...requested medium rare.

My Mom and I absolutely love this place. Sometimes we'll even pop in for a simple cup of coffee just to enjoy the ambience. Great service, top notch food and just a lovely place to spoil a loved one. Our waiter went the extra mile on my mom's birthday to ensure she got a killer dessert.

Although the restaurant was neat, the staff friendly, the food left a lot be desired. Oily & under-seasoned vegetables, really small portions failed to impress. I literally had five chips on my plate & half a serving spoon of rice with my main. Not my favorite Mazambik in Durban.

The decor just makes you feel like you're in a beachside cafe in Ponto . The cocktails were lovely, the starter platter for 4 was great, and the prawns were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Topped off with pleasant and efficient service, and an affordable bill. Great experience.

It has the same quality food as the Mozambik franchise always does. Of course the added benefit to me is that this branch is in my neighborhood. My wife loves this restaurant- one of her favorite. We recently took friends from the UK to it and they enjoyed it.

I have always loved this restaurant but if you want a quiet place to talk, I suggest sitting on the covered veranda. My son didn't enjoy the hot sauce on his steak, but otherwise all four of us enjoyed the food. The service was very good.

Unfortunately there was a group of exceptionally noisy people who didn't care that they ruined the evening for all the other patrons.

Mozambik hillcrest was a lovely experience . You haven't tasted or enjoyed Mozambik if you haven't had their chicken and prawns !! Their coconut rice was delicious even on its own ! I would go back just for that !

Nice, service was friendly. Food was good though medium prawns lacked flesh. Finger bowls should come to the table immediately after prawns are set down. Really good haloumi starter with sweet chilli sauce.

It's definitely worth a visit. Menu has a decent variety from steak and ribs to prawns. I am a little disappointed by the lack of draught beer, they had something on tap but not my usual. Will be back.

An excellent choice...wide selection on the menu with two vegetarian options. Friendly service, great setting and location, deliciously fresh food. A cocktail menu and bar facility is also available.

The most consistent restaurant in Durban over the last ten years. Always serving up incredibly tasty food, and service is always excellent. Love the sauces, and my wife always enjoys the veg curry.
