Why Is Musée d'Orsay a Must-Visit in Paris? Musée d'Orsay isn't just a museum; it's a historic marvel. Set in a grand old railway station, it's where the romance of 19th-century art meets architectural elegance. This museum is an art lover's paradise, showcasing masterpieces from the likes of Monet, Van Gogh, and Renoir. What’s So Special About Its Collection? This museum is the custodian of the world's largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces. It's like walking through a dreamy canvas of history, where every corner unveils a new, vibrant story told through brushstrokes. Does the Architecture Contribute to the Experience? Absolutely! The building itself is an art piece. Its grand clock face and the airy, light-filled atrium offer a nostalgic glimpse into the past. The design smartly incorporates the old train station's structure, blending history and art seamlessly. Is There More to See Than Just Paintings? Yes, beyond the paintings, Musée d'Orsay houses sculptures, photographs, and furniture, presenting a complete picture of the artistic evolution during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Every floor unfurls a different facet of artistic genius. How Does a Visit to Musée d'Orsay Feel? Visiting Musée d'Orsay is like stepping into a different era. The juxtaposition of classic art in a former railway station creates a unique experience that’s both educational and awe-inspiring. It's a journey through time, art, and emotion. Is It Suitable for All Ages? Indeed, it is. Whether you're an art aficionado or a casual visitor, the museum offers something for everyone. Its captivating collection and the historical charm make it an enriching experience for visitors of all ages.

Exploring Musée d'Orsay on the first Sunday of the month was a fantastic decision. Not only did we get to experience the museum's world-class collection, but the added bonus of free entrance made the visit even more memorable. The usual entry fee being waived on this day is a thoughtful gesture that allows art enthusiasts and curious minds alike to immerse themselves in the museum's offerings. From the moment we stepped into the grandeur of the building, we were captivated by the architectural beauty that seamlessly blends history with art. The natural light filtering through the iconic clock windows added a touch of enchantment to the entire experience. The layout of the museum is well-planned, allowing us to navigate through the different sections with ease. The vast array of artworks, especially the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces, left us in awe. Standing face-to-face with iconic paintings and sculptures that we had only seen in books was an exhilarating feeling. The informative plaques beside each exhibit provided valuable insights into the artist's life and creative process, enhancing our understanding and appreciation. The staff at Musée d'Orsay deserves special mention for their warmth and knowledge. They were more than happy to answer our questions and engage in discussions about the art pieces, making the visit even more enriching. Visiting the Musée d'Orsay on the first Sunday of the month was not only a smart way to save on entrance fees but also an opportunity to connect with art and history on a deeper level. This initiative reflects the museum's commitment to making art accessible to all, and we left with a renewed sense of appreciation for the artistic wonders housed within its walls.

Arrived around 9:45 on a Tuesday with a Museum Pass and no pre-booked timeslot (I don't believe it's available for this museum). There are multiple lines but if you have the MP, you will need line C1. The lines look daunting but luckily, it only took us about 15 minutes to get in. I probably preferred this museum over the Louvre just because of the sheer size of the Louvre. The Musée d'Orsay is much more manageable. First, it's much less crowded but you just need to go early because it starts filling up after 11. It's also very well organized so if there is a certain artist or a certain era you'd like to focus on, it's easy to find. My favorite was of course Monet and looking at all the impressionist paintings. And I'm not even an art person but I found myself lingering around some of these paintings. We spent about two hours there and saw pretty much everything. We did breeze through some exhibits we were less interested in so I can see an art lover easily spending a half day to full day here. Definitely worth a visit! Even if you don't have the MP.
Ha! Things are never like in the movies! Have seen small portions of this museum, 1 or 2 folks pass by as the star sits quietly, contemplating the picture. Yeah, right! Never has happened; I went through the museum on a weekday, and it was fairly crowded. From what I could tell and comments from some folks who have been there before, crowds are the norm. One example is the Mona Lisa, right? I was able to get through a crowd of non-moving folks just standing there. Fortunately, I have long arms able to elevate my arms up high enough to get a job picture. I think. Absolutely a must visit when in Paris! Only note I would add is that you really need days, if not weeks to fully see and enjoy all of this world class museum.

Stood in line at 9:30 (opening hour) and had to wait at least 45 min (no ticket line). This is something I expected so I’m not complaining, only informing others. Once inside, we had to go through security. Quite normal but the security people were quite rude. I understand it’s difficult talking to someone who doesn’t understand their language quite well and the fact that the person was holding the line is indeed unnerving for them but rolling their eyeballs is unnecessary in my opinion. The museum itself is delightful! I came into a wealthy display of classic art pieces. Saw what I wanted to see and had my picture taken at the two clocks. Wonderful experience 2-hour experience that left me with a hungry feeling

If you can only go to 1 museum in Paris it should be Musée d’Orsay. There are lots of great paintings, well laid out and explained. Decent diversity of paintings, although mostly impressionist era. I got the audio guide and thought it wasn’t worth it because very few paintings have the symbol (ie very few paintings have audio guide descriptions available). Note that it is close Monday. It is very busy on Tuesdays because the Louvre and other museums are closed. I went Wednesday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy (busy, but not a long wait to get in). You can get a combo ticket for d’Orsay and l’Orangerie which can be used within 7 days and is cheaper than buying them separately.

Part of the museum pass, and one of the top galleries in Paris so a must visit stop. Beautiful setting for the art, as it was formerly a train station (gare) hence the large clock in the main hall. TIPS: 1) If you see something in a gift shop you like, be sure to get it as they don’t have the same items sold in the multiple gift shop locations throughout the gallery. 2) Recommend to purchase tickets in advance as the lines can get long, even in November when it’s not peak tourist season. The special Van Gogh exhibit had a 1.5 hour wait! 3) Make note of the opening hours and days when planning your visit.

One of my favorite museums in Paris and all-around best places to go. The Louvre is always mega crowded, and it's not to say the d'Orsay isn't, but it feels like you've found the secretly best museum in Paris that only you know about when you arrive. The fact that it's filled with classics by Van Gogh, Degas, Manet and others only reinforces this feeling. Even when surrounded by others, you feel like part of a brotherhood of art appreciators that knows where the "good stuff" is. If you bought one of the all-museum access passes (or whatever it's called now) you absolutely must stop by this museum. You'll be close enough to the Champs-Elysees anyway, so make the effort and have yourself an enlightening time.

My visit to Musée d'Orsay in early December was a spontaneous delight, as I secured a ticket at the door without prior planning. The museum's vast collection, housed within a former railway station, is nothing short of impressive. Navigating through the stunning array of art, from Impressionist masterpieces to iconic sculptures, requires at least half a day to truly appreciate the depth and beauty of the exhibits. The spontaneity of my visit only added to the charm, making Musée d'Orsay a must-see destination for art enthusiasts seeking a captivating and immersive experience.

Everything in the museum is beautiful and interesting. Starting with the building where it is located, its architecture as a former train station adds magic to your visit. The artworks inside are simply breathtaking and quite varied in technique, style and representation. The only downside is that the audio guide you can rent is quite limited, works for very few artworks and its translations for Spanish are not that accurate. Purchase tickets in advance from the museum website and you get a dedicated queue to enter, which is practically empty compared to the other queue.

This time, I visited the museum only to see the special van Gogh exhibition. I recommend buying a timed ticket in advance for both the virtual show (10 minutes, but very well done) and the exhibit itself. The lines in front of the paintings can be obnoxious, and one has to work one's way through the crowd. It took me about two hours to work my way through the exhibition, but it was well worth it. I rewarded myself by having a nice lunch at the second floor restaurant, which itself is a piece of art with painted ceiling and gilded mirrors.

A great museum, large with multiple floors and covers some of history's finest in Van Gogh, Rodin, Monet etc. You can buy tickets online or get them free if you are 18-26 and an EU citizen. Otherwise if you miss the online sales get there early (around 9:00AM) so you can pickup one at the door for €2 less and pop right in. Lots of gift options inside as well as a restaurant and cafe. The building itself is elaborate and beautiful. If sculptures and impressionist paintings aren't your thing don't go here. Otherwise, enjoy!

This is a great museum. So many great paintings to see. If you’re an impressionism fan, you must visit this place. Monet, Degas’s ballerinas, Cezanne, Renoir - all here. It’s probably better to visit in the morning. It gets very crowded and it’s hard to enjoy all the wonderful pieces. Definitely recommend getting a ticket in advance, with a time-slot, if possible. I’m not sure you can book a time-slot with a Museum Pass (I couldn’t so I had to wait in a longer queue), but that queue has a shorter waiting time.

* This museum is housed in a former art deco railway station. * The main exhibition hall is located in the terminal platforms and has a stunning decorated ceiling and outsize clock. * The museum has a brilliant decorative arts displays of furniture and interiors. * The main attraction is the huge collection of French painting from around the Impressionist period. Monet, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh have dedicated rooms. * The restaurant serves light main meals in what looks like an ex-ballroom.

Free entry if you’re disabled and no wait, which is great if you cannot stand for long periods of time. I went to an exhibition on Van Gough which is lovely however they stagger entry to stop it being overcrowded, but it was still extremely packed which made it hard to see the art and it is slightly unsafe for those with disabilities due to being knocked and pushed. However, it’s my favourite gallery/museum in Paris, and the view of Paris skyline is spectacular.

One of the world's great museums, with a phenomenal collection of Impressionist art in an amazing setting. The only museum in Europe that we've returned to twice, to satisfy our souls. Tips: Book your tickets in advance for opening time--shorter, faster lines to enter plus the museum is less crowded then. Headsets are worthwhile. The escalator to the Impressionists (which are on the top floor) is at the opposite end of the building from the entrance and hidden behind a wall. We couldn't find it at first, but there were staff who pointed it out to us.
Great selection of art works including Monet and Van Gogh. I spent 4hrs here still not enough, recommend you spend a solid 6hrs here at least if you want to take time to enjoy the galleries and exhibitions. I booked online for free admission when it was available, highly recommended to do so, even if paying for entry is still totally worth it! There’s also a nice cafe in the building, you can sit down and enjoy different view when you are tired of walking.

Very beautiful architecture and multiple floors of art. I visited the Van Gogh exhibit and the impressionist art which were extremely nice! There’s also a clock window in the fifth floor that had a nice view of Paris. Seems like there was a gift shop after every exhibit tho so plenty of places to get souvenirs! Would recommend getting a timed ticket for it though - the line for no tickets seemed extremely long (my friend waited roughly 1 hr to get in).

For panting and sculpture vieweing, the spaces and lights are great. The collections, are incredible. There's a coffee inside (great for a brief rest), but there are times that a line of people is formed to get a table. There is a restaurant either, but we didn't go there. The bat thing is that in the most famous paintings, the casual photographers doesn't leave much chances to close observers (and the details are great to watch). VERY IMPORTANT: if possible, book attendance with weeks of anticipation to avoid being sold out at your visit
One of the best museums of Paris and the world, definitely worth a visit if you like 19 and 20th century European art. The building alone is worth the visit. It can easily get crowded (we visited during the exhibition “Van Gogh à Auvers-sur-Oise: Les derniers mois”, and it was full, almost too full), so think about buying tickets in advance (or subscribing to their annual card ‘carte blanche’ - not the most efficient enrollment system, but still worth it). Highly recommended!

Go straight through the start and up to the top by fastest means possible then work down. Some amazing art and to get best value 2-3 hours. We spent 4.5 hours here and could have stayed more admiring the art. Wonderful mix of paintings from primarily French artists, and lots of sculpture. There are big crowds admiring certain paintings, but be patient and you will get your turn to observe and admire.

Really liked this museum. Recommend starting fr the top and going down. The best pieces were up top. It was an Impressionism filled exhibit. Really thoughtful pieces important in the context of french history and art. The cafes were cute as well. We stopped at the one on the second floor since the one on the fifth floor seemed super packed. Recommend getting museum pass for it.
One of my favorite tourist spots for a first timer for Paris. This museum was easier to tolerate than the Louvre... I find the artworks in here more elegant and stylistic than the classic Louvre, which is boxy and less ornate and incredibly crowded to even stand being in there for an hour. This museum by contrast was easy to see in one visit and it was extremely satisfying.
A must visit when in Paris. A lot of small tours that could have prevented me from getting up close but I just made my way as I paid for a ticket to get in just like they did. Many masterpieces you will recognize from your school books. Amazing to see Rodin’s, Van Gogh’s and other masters works.

A super museum. Lots of fascinating and beautiful art. We preferred this to the Louvre because it was less overwhelming and there was a nice restaurant at the end which allowed people take a break. Would recommend for anyone in Paris, thoroughly enjoyable.

The museum is nice but entry to the Van Gogh exhibit is too disorganized. We waited over an hour for a see just a few of the paintings. The more “famous” pieces are actually on a higher floor with no line! I recommend skipping the line and go straight upstairs.

One of the must visits in France’s capital. The Mussée d’Orsay has a wonderful collection of French impressionist, symbolist and naturalist masters. It also boasts an impressive collection of statues, placed in and around the central hall of the old train station. I have come back several times over the decades and it continues to amaze and surprise.

Stunning. My favorite museum in Paris. A must-go. We didn’t book tickets, and it was around 4 pm on a weekday (Thursday when they have the late nights, which was really cool) and waited around 45 min - 1 hour to get in. Next time book tickets!

Very nice! I truly recommend to get at least 3 hours to visit it and an audioguide. Also, get online tickets and skip the line. It took us 13 minutes to enter the museum, not 2 hours like those who were waiting in line to buy them cash.

If you love the impressionism it is the place, as the original train station structure was built around that period of time. There was a line, yet it didn't take long to get it. Perfect for a short yet fruitful museum with a smaller crowd.

Buy your tickets online in advance!! Musée D’Orsay is a great museum. Of course compared to Louvre it’s smaller. However, there are not many museums around Europe. If you stay in Paris for a few days, great option for a second museum visit.

So much art, so much culture. So many tourists. As an avid consumer of tourist hotspots, I am used to the chaos that surrounds these establishments. From long lines at the entrance, to masses of art enthusiasts in the building. This museum did not disappoint. I’ll definitely be back for more. Thank you for hosting me. Merci beaucoup
Stunning, not to be missed museum. Excellent Impressionism collection. Beautiful building in and of itself. Nicely laid out so even when busy it doesn't feel overly crowded. Favorite areas were the main hall and the Van Gogh and Monet displays. Don't miss the Phantom of the Opera displays as well as the under floor diorama of Paris.
Fantastic. Be sure to book a time slot in advance - they fill up faster than the Louvre. The special Van Gogh exhibit was a total madhouse, it's hard to truly appreciate with so many people. The 5th floor paintings are the best.

A very beautiful museum, located in a former train station, and built in art nouveau style, with art, sculptures, furniture, etc. from the last decades. Our personal highlights were art from Monet and van Gogh. Worth a visit!

My absolute favorite place to visit in Paris. It is a converted train station directly across the river from the Luvre. So much impressionist art work on display. Beautiful building and beautiful restaurants. Buy front of line tickets and get there early as the lines to get in are super crazy.

We booked a private tour of this museum so skipped the lineup. I loved this museum, there was many beautiful artwork pieces. Two of my absolute favorite artists’ works are featured here— Monet and Van Gogh. We visited in early September on a weekday and it was not too crowded. If your into art I highly recommend this museum.
Hard to escape the crowds but Thursday night is a better time to go than most. Fabulous collection with mo' Monet than Notorious B. I. G. could have been thinking of. Buy a timed ticket online. Seriously so much easier.

Amazing place, a definitive must-see. Beautiful artworks. I really enjoyed all the Monet paintings they have. As for other aspects, the prices at the coffee shop inside are on the expensive side, so keep that in mind.

The museum is really beautiful, and there's so much to see – a lot of art and exhibits that can easily fill up your day. However, it tends to get quite crowded, so be prepared for that. It's definitely worth taking the time to explore, though, given the richness of the displays and the diverse range of things to discover.
We spend almost 3 hours at the museum. If you have reservation, there is no time waste to enter in. If you did not visit Louvre, first you should go there and for an other day you may visit this magnificent museum too

Clearly one of the world's foremost art museums, and not too expensive to visit. Very busy of course, the crowds mostly in the impressionist/post-impressionist galleries. Certainly not so busy in the furniture areas. The main hall, the former station area, is spectacular and worth the visit on its own.
Bonne visite !
This is the place to go to see phenomenal architecture as well as top shelf art. A bit crowded but nothing compared to overrated louvre. Worth the wait in line and and afternoon of Paris time.

Outstanding exposition of impressionists , modernists and postmodernists. Don’t skip exhibition of Claude Monet and other fantastic artists at the 5th floor. Collection of sculptures right after entry is simply stunning. It is impossible to list all famous paintings, it just needs to be seen.
Went for the van gogh exhibition, and saw a lot more. Lots to see and much bigger than expected. You could easily spend up to 2 hours here, or 30 minutes as a quick walk through visit

I loved this museum more than I loved the Louvre. A lot of great works by famous artists- Monet, Manet, Degas, Van Goch, Delacroix, and others. Check out the Starry Night over Rhone painting- its is amazing. Tickets are not expensive but the museum is very crowded.
We went for the Van Gough exhibition and it was great. Busy but great. If you're going at the weekend then go early as there was an hour delay for entry when we left. Brilliant exhibition that charts the final days of Vincent right through to his final painting.

A fantastic museum pretty close to the Louvre. We got in for free at 5 as they close at 5:50 which was great as we didn't know this was the case. There is quite a lot to see here and it is beautiful. Really great looking building.
