It's quite a cool place. Lots of old bosses. Lots of history. It's not as big as I thought but there is plenty in there. It's just a shame they don't do the bus rides more often but I guess on a quiet day. What's the point in running the buses I like the fact that the children can get on the bosses. Not all of them but a lot and have a look around and you can get on an old metrolink tram the cafe is excellent. Value really well. Priced food and not bad at all. Although I will see if you get a pie it will be microwave so a little soggy so maybe just get a hot sandwich however, my pie was delicious all in 12.40 for a pie, two sandwiches, one of which was hot, two drinks, a bar of chocolate and a packet of crisps. I don't think it is bad at all, especially for a museum You don't have to pay for under 16s but you do pay for yourself which for us meant 6 I don't know if they get any funding but it certainly doesn't look like they do and the gift shops is very nice. I really wanted the cushions but I'm not sure I could have convinced myself to pay 45 for two cushions however, there's lots of stuff for the kids that like £1.8 £2 so certainly not going to break the bank we took the train in tram here because I thought the kids would enjoy it more but I've got to say looking at the cost and the time if you've got a car it's probably just easier to drive there. It's not in the city center. You can park on the street for free. I don't know if it has a car park, but there's plenty of parking right nearby

This was a lovely place to visit with a pre-school age child. There are a range of buses in 2 large warehouse-sized rooms, many of which you can get onto. For slightly older children, there is an area with old style offices and plenty of information to read as you go around. The cafe is small and basic but very good value - as is the entry fee at only £5 for adults. It is pretty bus-focused, though there is also one metrolink tram (the original prototype I think). The only drawback really is the parking - there wasn't any space initially outside and the surrounding roads aren't ideal to park on. There is a larger car park at the nearby Manchester Fort retail park though I think strictly you're only meant to park there whilst shopping.

Came here with my 2 year old daughter to take a look at and go inside some old buses. The site itself is part of the very much active bus depot with what I guess was a couple of redundant sheds within it. The selection here is really impressive and features a really wide selection of buses from the greater Manchester area along with a original Manchester tram prototype and a WW2 era fire engine. Entry was just £5 for me (free for my daughter) and we spent about 45 minutes here. A highlight was being able to go inside about 5 different buses. Well worth a trip if you are in the area!

I give it 4 stars for effort and the fact my son loves it. But really it should be 2 stars! Possitive: Lots of busses to climb on, good fun to explore. Even a tram to get on. Only £4 entry fee. Negitive: only 2 big halls in a leeky bus shed. Takes about 1 hour to explore. Very dirty and cold! Not the most informative place. When you compare this place to other transport museums like York or Glasgow (which are free!) And how they have has big modernization and lovely things to explore it puts this place to shame! Come on Salford/Manchester council! Give this place some money and maybe a new building!!!
Been in Manchester 10 years and finally visiting this museum. It's a great little place for bus enthusiasts or anyone interested in the bus and tram history of Manchester. The only downside is that it is just really busses and trains. For a Transport museum I was expecting a bit more, which is why I've gave 4 stars instead of 5. But all in all its a good way to spend a couple of hours. Plenty to see, plenty to learn and you can even go inside some of the buses as well. Remember to look up when you are inside as there is lots of cool signs and stuff all around the room which you could easily miss.
Love this place. Its small but with plenty of buses crammed in and a bit of a tram t68 but unfortunately the cab is no longer fully kitted out. You can go in most of the buses and go upstairs. It's expensive for what it is as you're only in there for an hour at the most. My kids also cost me a fortune by wanting a bunch of model buses in the gift shop! It was virtually dead when i went during the week too and has a nice old style feel to the place with an old cafe for refreshments. Would highly recommend if you needed to kill an hour and wanted to see the history of public transport.
It's a small museum but well looked after and definitely worth visiting if you're a bus fan. You can walk around and look at the buses, read about them and you can get inside on some of the buses too. There are also staff members around whom you can ask questions and who are happy to share their expertise. Tickets to the museum are only £6 for adults and children go free. To get to the museum you can take a tram to Queens Road and then it's about 10 minutes walk from the tram station to the museum.

Take a trip back through time and see what you, your parents, or grandparents used to ride around the local area on. Friendly enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff will happily answer your questions. It's easy to lose a few hours wondering around the exhibits. Even get a ride on running day. Great value attraction all the family can enjoy. Visit onsite cafe for a brew and a snack. Gift shop too. The opening time to the actual opening time was quite accurate, we arrived at the museum at around 9:50 and entered at 10:00~, the tickets are not expensive if anything, probably cheaper than most places in Manchester. The inside was nice and contained a lot of buses and engines. Some you could enter and some not. The shop is also very cheap and there’s a Tea Shop inside the museum. Would recommend! 9/10

Nice diverse showcase of retired bus models from different regions around UK. Wish there was more on the development of Metrolink and railways in Greater Manchester though. The so-called shop needs much improvement - if they offered officially licensed current bus and tram models as well as postcards it could bring in more funds to support the Museum.

Basically, it bills itself as a "museum of transport" but there is not a lot here except buses and trams from the war era. Nothing about the steam era. Nothing about pre-industrial times. It's basically just an interest outlet for certain groups of people from certain demographics. Nothing here for kids really. Quite expensive as well.

A wonderful museum, full of fascinating and nostalgic old buses. Lots of well-designed information boards giving the full history of each vehicle as well as items of more general transport interest. It was also really interesting being able to watch the vehicles being stripped down and restored. I loved visiting here and highly recommend it. Make sure it is open when you plan to visit as it is not open every day.
Love this place, i try to go often but been recently and went to the 80s themed bus weekend and it was fab, didn't manage to go to Swinton on the Express bus as didn't have a lot of time but overall it was very good, loved the old retro buses and the merchandise. Bought an 80s bus book from the shop too and i love it.

The museum houses a superb selection of vehicles and helps tell the historic story of how public transport helped to shape the great city of Manchester. Take a walk through the past, board some of the buses that are frozen in time, restored to their former glory, enjoy a bite to eat and drink at the traditional cafe, and learn about the history of moving people through the stories of those involved.
A fantastic place for all the family. I would recommend coming to one of the various events that are held throughout the year. There are lots of exhibits to see and the museum captures the public transport in Greater Manchester from times bygone to the present day. The bacon barms at the café are of particular note if you come in the winter time, as are the warm pies served traditionally with peas.
We visited in the morning, when the museum was quiet. It was staffed by enthusiasts, who gave us a useful introduction and left us to browse. There was a lot of detailed history of the various bus companies, which would have been particularly interesting to local people who remembered the companies and colours. Possibly misnamed as a museum of transport, as it was almost exclusively about buses.
This is the place for bus enthusiasts or anyone interested in the history of transportation in Manchester. It's for a couple of hours and may not be a perfect place to take kids since I only found a couple of buses that are open and you can get into them and feel history inside you. It's transport museum because it's around buses and tramways. No airplanes or spacecraft though.
Really interesting day out. Love the smell of the old garages! Great seeing all the old buses and coaches. Lots to see here. The little cafe is really cheap. The staff are really helpful and there are plenty of buses that you can get into and look around properly. If you like old transport this is a really great choice. It's not expensive to get into either. Kids loved it here!
Excellent little museum of buses, kids can visit for free and adults pay five pounds which I assumer goes to the upkeep of the vehicles. There is highly knowledgeable staff whom give us some detailed information about some of the display vehicles. Take a hour or so out and have a visit. Some of the buses you are allowed to board which is fun if you like that type of thing
Enjoyed our visit, some really interesting aspects especially in relation to the WW2 era and the effect on transport in the city. Some of the staff were unfriendly (to the point of being quite rude) which was very disappointing. It would've been nice to see something other than just buses too! Worth a visit for the fair entry fee, very modestly price cafe is decent too.
A fantastic place to learn and reminisce about bus transport in Greater Manchester. There are over 60 buses, some trolleybuses and a few other vehicles, some of which you're free to enter and look around. The entry fee is a bargain at £5, and the pie and peas in the café was amazing.

Had a lovely afternoon here with my two little boys, a must visit for anyone with children who love vehicles. There is a lot to see, and you can go inside some of the buses as well which the kids loved. The museum is very clean and social distancing measures were very good too. There is the cutest little cafe inside which is like going back in time, loved it.
Transport yourself into an era gone by, took my son to see the buses who loves them, lots of interesting facts to read take your time to read them. Buses at the back are parked quite close by. Not all buses are open for you to go inside, I believe 4-5 buses max are open but the ones that are open give you an amazing nostalgic feel. Overall a good experience
A wonderful living museum celebrating the history of public transport in Greater Manchester. Lots of exhibits, friendly staff, and a great cafe serving basic meals and snacks at bargain prices. On special event weekends a free bus service to/from the city centre operates, using buses from the museum collection. Very atmospheric and a great place to visit.
If you've ever lived anywhere in Greater Manchester and ridden a bus, this museum will fill you with nostalgia. The smells, the sounds, the memorabilia. The staff all volunteers, the gift shop not a rip off!! Fantastic day, thank you all for making us feel so special.

Great collection of old buses of Manchester in a big spacey warehouse. Entry is £4 for adults and free for kids, and different prices for concessions. One can get on many of the buses and tram, as well as learn a lot about the history of transport in Manchester and around. A good place to spend a morning or an afternoon, especially if it's raining.
Amazing place! Holds lots of history of Manchester and surrounding area. Its prefect for transport enthusiasts! There are mostly buses and a few trams. The entrance fee is affordable; no need to book. Entry into the displays are permitted in some.

Fantastic transport museum. Focuses heavily on Manchester based busses, but they certainly know their subject. If a tour is available, I'd recommend taking it. We had a fantastic guide today. You can view 100 years worth of transportation here, all beautifully preserved. Almost makes you feel like you've gone back in time.
A superb, very reasonably priced museum full of old vehicles and artifacts. Well worth spending a few hours. They run vintage buses on certain days so check before you go! Nice little shop, great old school cafe and friendly staff.

Easy to navigate. Nice clean bathrooms. And very thorough and interesting information (as far as busses and trams are concerned). It is only five pounds as well, making it even more worth a visit. Burns about an hour or two. You can enter the busses and get some good photos.
