Fun thing to do to escape the rain! They don't do special discounts, but they've lowered the overall admission price during COVID. You can buy tickets ahead online, but we had no problem just getting entry at the door. They have some really interesting exhibitions and arrows to direct a COVID-conscious flow. There are also QR codes you can scan for some virtual information, and you can also do a scavenger hunt! This is a place for people of all ages and I think everyone can learn from a visit. My friend and I (mid 20s) spent more than 2 hours here. I particularly appreciated the visible efforts in reconciliation integrated into their exhibits related to First Nations. Also, as a fourth gen Chinese Canadian, I really enjoyed their section on Chinese Canadian history in Vancouver. There's also a very cute vintage Vancouver section with neon signs that is popular for pictures.
This is a brilliant little gem of a museum in a great location. It shares an entrance with HR MacMillan Space Centre behind the giant crab sculpture. The museum excells in celebrating First Nations stories and the social history of Vancouver - typically an undervalued history. The museum deserves 5 stars but is weirdly domestic. The whole thing feels slightly unfinished and is a long way from polished. It's unfortunate because it devalues some of the seriously excellent exhibitions. There are random storage cupboards left open and when we visited the "gift shop" was just a couple of racks behind some rope. It's as if it's run by a committee who have some great idea but no time to properly see them through. This small issue aside - definitely worth a visit.

The museum of Vancouver is so outstanding. I feel that there's a little of something for everyone. The Haida Now exhibit is done well, and curated by Haida curator Kwiaahwah Jones. I've seen that particular exhibit multiple times, and always find something new to discover. I feel that the museum is really good at incorporating the histories of many different people. I found their online booking easy, and they were all pleasant to deal with when we arrived. It was great that it's air conditioned for the heat wave as well. Their new exhibit "A seat at the table" was exceptionally well done as well. It was a really great look into the contributions that Chinese Canadians have made to Canadian culture and history. I'm also a big fan of the Neon exhibit! All in all, it's always a great experience and enjoyable place to be!
VANCOUVER'S STORY BEGINS HERE. We had such a great experience at The Museum of Vancouver (MOV). Great balance between regular and feature exhibits. From their website: ‘MOV connects Vancouverites to each other and connects the city to the world. An enthusiastic civic advocate, MOV is dedicated to encouraging a deeper understanding of Vancouver through stories, objects and shared experiences. MOV is an independent, non-profit organization that seeks partners to support the evolution of the Museum’s visitor experience. Our vision is to inspire a socially connected, civically engaged city.’ Would definitely recommend this to locals and tourists alike if you’re looking to learn more about Vancouver and its history!
Interesting place to visit with slightly older kids. There are some good information on the history of the area from nature to indigenous to modern Vancouver. You can easily spend a couple hours here; however, that would require serious interest, concentration, and reading. If you aren't as into the history, then you can simply enjoy the exhibits, videos, and artifacts. The boys found the car the most interesting, and my daughter's attention was captured by the women's rights exhibit. Overall, I'd recommend the museum as a secondary stop, but probably won't recommend it as the primary visit.

The museum of Vancouver is a wealth of information of our cities history. They have a beautiful candid view of our past and do an amazing job displaying things in a fun and educational way. Staff were so nice and sanitization stations are all over the place. Not only that but they provide styluses of any interactive stations inside so its all hands off! Lots of space between us and other patrons and we were even lucky enough to enjoy a 30% off sale in the gift shop on our visit. Amazing location and a great resource for indigenous history and our cities history. Great for homeschooling parents looking for a safe space to learn!
Small museum focused on the time evolution of Vancouver from the indigenous settlements till the 60”s - I loved that while you walk through it’s aisles you were transported throughout several eras of their history. What I liked the most was the Jukebox (it works!!) and the great history of indigenous. Please, come with the right expectation of a small museum. For some reason, as I live in Ontario I came thinking in the ROM which is massive! There are several seats throughout the museum in case you come with an elderly person. Right priced at $15

Who knew Vancouver had a museum to rival the Royal BC museum in Victoria? Well, I didn't. The historical set pieces with actual artifacts from all over Vancouver tell a compelling account of the distant, and not so distant past. With the inclusion of the 70's hippie counter-culture and a retelling of First Nation history by First Nation people, the museum accepts with humility the false arrogance of our past. The two extra art exhibits were a surprising and appreciated bonus!

Their permanent exhibitions are well-designed, and are very informative and entertaining at the same time. If you ever wondered about the riots in Vancouver, the history of the neon lights or wanted to know more about the first nation settlements that existed before Vancouver, this museum is the right place to get educated. The only obnoxious thing I experienced was a young student group about 20-25 people who were yelling at each other, played tag and were generally very loud. It would be great if they had been told before entering the museum to keep quiet.
There is so much to explore. You could easily spend 5 hours here just going around exploring and reading. It really feels like you are going back in time decades even centuries with all the amazing artifacts and displays. Each area makes you feel like you are actually in that time era. Really amazing feeling. Definitely a place worth exploring. Don't know how busy it gets during week days and Saturday but i went there on Sunday and there was not much people which gives more room and freedom for yourself. The people in front desk are very friendly and nice.
If u are from EU, it probably wouldn't impress you. It is just a collection of old vintage furniture and things from 1900 till 2000 ish. Because vancouver doesn't have any history. It was the only museum I've been where the items didn't have any dates. Also they had a separate space exhibition which we had to buy tickets for again and also was low level and boring. I felt i wasted my money in this museum. It was a rip off! Also we thought the parking of the museum is free and we got fine I don't recommend this museum at all.
DRESSED FOR HISTORY: WHY COSTUME COLLECTIONS MATTER It’s a beautiful collection of dresses, shoes, and accessories from XVII-XXI centuries. You can touch history through beautiful hand made silk and lace, beautiful details of embroidery and silver buttons. You can sense how the dynamic of life was changing and how this dictated new fashion styles due to Industrial Revolution, wars and social changes. Wonderful exhibition.

Took the MOV self tour a few days ago. I came in around 10:30am, so the place was quite empty (which I prefer). Photos added. Its a sombre feeling every time I learn more about the indigenous folks but is a must for everyone in Canada to know. Nice to know were "alien enemies", I was not so aware of these things. Old days were pretty PRETTY bad legally. Make sure to show your student ID (if you have one) to get a bit of discount.

My overall experience was very informative. There are many artifacts ranging from First Nations culture to the late 20th century. While there are many virtual displays, there are a ton of word based information so be prepared to read a lot if you want to make the most from here. The atmosphere was peaceful, front counter service was good and the fee is reasonable. Just note that parking here will cost you.

Excellent way to spend a few hours in the city. Always thought provoking, well organized and relevant to Vancouver exhibitions. Visited with girlfriends and took our time going through the galleries and discussing our favourite elements. The vintage fashion display we saw was beautiful with gorgeous dresses and accessories with explanations highlighting the reasons for the changes in styles through the years.

Lovely insight into the history of the City of Vancouver. Learnt a lot, though I'll say it seems to be focused more on history post 30-40's and not earlier. Though I guess records might be scarce. The special exhibits rotate through the year and are interesting as well. First Sunday of every month are pay what you can. Not really worth the price of full admission, but definitely a nice visit for the family.

A fairly small but wonderfully curated museum, with a focus on local history and artists and really thoroughly designed exhibits. When I visited, the historical women's fashion exhibit and the 50's through 70's galleries were wonderful and well worth the trip. You won't need too long to see the entire museum, which is only one floor. Maps are available at the front desk but you may need to request one.

The Museum had a ton of fun and educational exhibits. The entrance fee was reasonable. My friends and I spent a good couple of hours exploring all the exhibits in some of which, we had the ability to interact with items on display. The neon exhibit was beautiful. There was also a wall where you could write whatever you wanted, which my friends and I definitely did. It was a small but sweet feeling of being a part of the exhibit! Would definitely recommend!
Your typical history museum that explains the history of the city as a whole. I enjoyed learning about who inhabited the lands prior and overall it was a good experience but if your not a fan of history it is probably best to skip this. There is a space museum in the same building for different tickets which could be good for kids but they still have timed entry tickets.

More of an antiques exhibition rather than a city history museum. A few, disjoint exhibitions without a linear narrative. You won't learn a lot about the history of Vancouver here. Instead the museum tells you a story about North American culture and social changes throughout the last 150 years. It could be a museum of any North American coast city. Not to mention that it doesn't say a word about recent Vancouver history and the city's current problems.
Nice local museum with a well rounded history inclusive of native tribes, immigrant stories, and the lives of average people. The building itself, and the crab fountain out front, are worth seeing even if you don’t have time to tour the museum. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the cost is reasonable for the size of the museum. Would recommend for those on vacation!

A medium-sized museum; I was here for a couple hours and feel like that is enough time to see the museum. It is an interesting look at Vancouver and some of the major impacts that have shaped the city. It wasn't my favourite museum in Vancouver (I loved the Museum of Anthropology), but if you enjoy history and how a city is shaped, this is worth checking out. I definitely enjoyed the neon sign exhibit and learning about that aspect of Vancouver's past.
Permanent exhibits preserving local history. Ongoing exhibits and displays covering a wide range of subjects, Most recently a production coming from the Venice Biennale. Ghetto. A theoretical exploration of the future of refugees on an increasingly turbulent planet. Huge! Relevant! Brilliant! Provocative, Disturbing! Everything Art should be.

Architecturally, this place is awesome. Both the exhibits and the building feature a lot of vintage / retro flare. The men’s washroom hasn’t been updated since the 1980’s.. and I LOVE IT. Feels like I’m stepping back in time. ** ~> My only feedback would is (1). to add to the Neon / retro exhibit .. the entire space feels a little sparse & (2). affordable parking. The price will deter me from visiting or recommending it to a friend.
They have rotating exhibitions. It's usually pretty quiet. The neon exhibit is good for photos but the neon lights make portraits and selfies look a bit off. They have a sort of time capsule area with what interior decorating was like in old Vancouver. Also one time there was a beaver who lived in the pond behind the museum.

The Museum of Vancouver always surprises me of how endless the exhibits seem. The BoarderX exhibit was seamlessly done and the pieces were great. If you are interested in exploring many perspectives of the city’s history, I would recommend the MOV. Also very convenient location next to another attraction, the Planetarium.

The exhibit “A Seat at the Table” was very interesting! Telling of the Chinese immigration experience through the lens of the restaurant industry was an engaging approach to the topic. The rest of the exhibits told some general Vancouver history through the decades 1920s-1960s/70s. A nice use of displays, ephemera, graphics and cool old items like sewing machines, a washing machine, TVs, and even a car.
I visited here on a rainy day and spent a couple of hours touring the exhibits. There was a range of guest exhibits and then some on the history of Vancouver. As others have said, it is not huge and a bit dated but I spent 2 hours here easily and found lots to look at. There is no cafe but a couple of vending machines.

One of the best museums in VANCOUVER! Such an educational experience! The 3 exhibitions were absolutely unforgettable! Felt very Covid safe and able to social distance. Don’t miss the March exhibition , “Chinese Immigration and BC” , “ Distant Decades of Vancouver in the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s” ( My son’s fave) and all the neon lights of old Vancouver ( my fave) . So worth seeing this one! ❤️
Small but illuminating museum. The exhibition in focus when we visited was A Seat on the Table. It was about Chinese migrants, the Indigenous, racism, and people trying to preserve their cultures. It was insightful and useful for understanding Vancouver as a city. Tickets are reasonably priced at $15 each.

I am so bummed that we didn't allow ourselves enough time to fully experience the museum before we had to head out of town. One could easily spend 6 hours here! The neon sign exhibit was just about the neatest thing ever. The historical exhibits on each of the decades were above and beyond. We spent several hours here and barely scratched the surface.
Small but informative museum. You can spend a good 2-hour here enjoying the exhibition. It’s also an awesome spot for photo shoot especially in the cherry blossom season. In the back of MOV, you can see beautiful cherry trees, great spot to capture gorgeous photos!

An expensive disappointment for this tourist. The guest exhibit didn't translate well from Vience as the cultural backgrounds of Italy & Canada were ignored. The main static exhibit focused exclusively on historical negatives at the expense of showcasing SOME of the amazing +ive experiences that contributed today's vibrant and successful city.
I adored my visit here! The special exhibit about Canadian design renegade Tobias Wong was fascinating! Take a walk through Vancouver’s history as well as Chinese and Indigenous artifacts. Plan for 90-120 minutes then take a stroll along the sea wall if the weather allows. Ample pay parking. Pay what you can on Sundays! Highly recommended.
The museum was great! The $75 parking ticket ruined the experience. It was raining heavily and the signage was poor. We ran into the museum to escape the rain and missed the signs no indication when we paid to get into the museum that we needed to pay for parking. Not feeling like a valued museum patron. Won’t be returning anytime soon.
I have been to the MOV a few times before, and I have always enjoyed it. I love the 25 cents jukebox! I also love the historic town. This time, I went specifically for Dressed for History. The exhibit was interesting. I would have loved to see more dresses from different cultures/eras, but I guess it would be a much bigger exhibit.
Visited this museum not very long ago. I really enjoyed the exhibit that spanned from the history of Chinese immigration, Indigenous groups in BC, early Vancouver days and to the 1950s. It’s great to see a glimpse of all these. The tour has to be booked online and to visit the museum doesn’t cost as much at $10 for adults.
Drive up from the states to see the dress exhibit, which was excellent! Well worth the drive! The cost to get in was very reasonable. Friendly staff. My only issue was that there was a school field trip, and they were extremely noisy.

Unfortunately less place to take a sit in between and there was no cafe inside, but inly vending machine. Coin locker takes 25 cents coin only.

Well organized, highly creatived exhibitions and full of "wowing" moments. There are a lot "interactive" items that really make you want to dig in to learn more, for me, I had been constantly searching online back and forth along the way. It would be even perfect if MOV provides free guest WiFi
Great museum & location, learned many new things about B.C.'s history as well as Canada's. However, it is definitely not worth the entry fee of $20 and it does not accommodate all populations for a worthy discount.

It feels good when a city acknowledges and honours its people. Those who made a difference must be talked about. From the inside the place looks super awesome, someone did quite a brilliant job with it. Also don’t miss the 1950 gallery and the cool Ford Fairlane!

Decent museum with essentially 3 areas on one floor - it’s not huge and dated. My favourite part is the area where it recreates what it looked like at the time and there is some audio playing which creates some atmosphere. Staff were very friendly.

Nice place to spend time (for max 2h). Almost all the presented stuff are belong/related to BC and not really old. Thicket price is little bit high for what you see comparing to other museums, still worth to see.

Beautiful exhibits. Lots of history. Plenty of woke political correctness going on which isn't really my thing but if you can just set that aside, you should enjoy your visit as much as I did.
A small quirky place with a few rooms showing the history of the city through time. Some of the displays are good, but not enough details. Dont expect too much for the price. Not much people.

Cool museum with interesting exhibits that detail some important aspects of Vancouver's past and present. As a tourist, I was disappointed that there was no gift shop.
I did not expect it was so interesting. We paid the parking just for 1h30 but we would love to have more time to see all the exhibitions. I really recommend it!
Briefly talk about the history of Vancouver on immigration and social changes over past 2 centuries. Very small museum, only take about an hour to finish.
It was really amazing because you can see a big timeline about the Chinese immigration evolution since century 18. Also , as student just I paid 10 cad.
