The Angkor Exhibit is a well worth investment and time, whether you are a history veteran or know nothing about it. Even if you haven't heard about it before, you will enjoy it and feel like you've learned so much after. I visited the museum for the first time and I couldn't be happier after my first visit, the exhibition was not only interesting fore (a self described history nerd) but it was also engaging for my friend who's not a fan of museums and even for my 15 month old baby, who loved all the interactive activities and pointing at all the sculptures (see the video for her playing with one of the activities). The exhibition setting goes from the beginning of the empire, to heist, decline, and then modern day Cambodia and the Khmer rouge to remind us how important past cultures and preservation are. There's plenty of build your own temple/palace Lego style game for the kids too. At the end, I bought a date night box so I could share the experience with my husband. Great job NHMU! I eagerly await for your next exhibition!

The Natural History Museum of Utah is a sensational interactive destination in Salt Lake City. A visually stunning building set at the base of the Wasatch Mountains is home to dinosaurs, rocks & minerals, animals and indigenous peoples. At the start of the museum, a hands-on kiosk guides even the smallest of guests to the museum level that most interests your blossoming Biologist, Paleontologist, Naturalist, Historian, or Geologist. This way, if time is limited, make a bee-line for target areas. Engaging all five senses, visitors can smell extinct flora and fauna; dig for fossils; engage Paleontologists at work; draw dinosaurs; jump to create seismic waves; assemble cells and DNA strands; observe ants; touch a snake, and so much more! Before or after entrance, trails open up to the majesty of Utah's natural wonders for hikers and bikers alike. Be sure to pack sunscreen and good shoes! Whether there's an hour or all day, don't miss this gem. It's in the top 10 "things to do in Salt Lake City" for a reason. 10/10 recommend!

This was one of my favorite museum experiences I’ve ever been able to participate in. The walking amount can be a bit of a struggle for those with lesser endurance, but even then, slopes are gradual, elevators are available, and the entirety of the exhibits, save for a couple optional locations, appeared to be easy enough to navigate and handicap-friendly. The stories and presentations were excellently captured, and they made it very easy to discern between interactive and non-interactive attractions and displays. Fun for any age, with lots of visual, auditory, and tactile interactions throughout. Set aside a good 2-3 hours if you want to see everything and experience things wholly. We spent 2 and a half hours here and ended up having to be rushed out at closing time half-way through the Colors exhibit. Absolutely worth the time, the travel, and the visit.

Museums staff prohibited me to talk with visitors ,they said, I'm disturbing them, I came to visit to learn, how can I learn without comunication?, I found the museum lots of ignorant staffers, most museums information is wrong, they didn't want to learn from me, that I've visited hundred of museums on the world. They kicked me out, also watch the staff woman and guard observed me to leave, crossing her arms till my uber's arrival. Good they refunded my ticket payment . Disappointed from ignorant museum staff. Never recommend this museum, go to NYC natural history museum, and anthropology museum in Mexico city. The best in this world , not this one, in salt lake city Utah Never will come back to this mormon city , for sure If you aren't mormom don't visit salt lake city Utah .

Museum is huge, 5 levels, all each have a little outdoor patio with stuff to read. Don't lose your ticket cause it's also the key to get in an out from the patios. Lots of interaction rooms, areas and monitors. When you enter there's a cute quiz that suggests where to start. We didn't listen an started on level 5 an worked our way down and across. There's stairs an elevators. Next to the elevators on each level are restrooms. It took us about 3-4 hours to complete the museum an shop the gift shop. There's much to look at. Native american, fossils, dinosaurs, geology, the earth with minerals and plate tectonics, animals/insects, DNA, micro biology, and human/ animal evolution. An a mini zoo. I'd definitely check it out.

Great collection of dinosaur fossils, for dinosaur lovers. It's amazing to learn how many species have been discovered in Utah. The information providing context about Utah's changing ecosystem over millions of years is plentiful and very interesting. I enjoyed the overall design of the building, making it easy to visit the different exhibits as a continuous path. There are interactive displays for kids (and adults!) like one to see erosion in real time. Another amazing one is a touchscreen that allows you to explore the tree of life. Try finding humans! Finally, the exhibits with Native American art and artifacts also include informative and enjoyable videos of Native Americans explaining some of their traditions and current challenges.

We went in during winter break, and it looks like others had the same idea, too! It's been a long time since I've visited the Natural History Museum, and I loved seeing all the new additions. Of course, the classic dinosaur area is always a win in my book. We enjoyed walking through the Cambodian exhibit named Angkor. Lots of cool artifacts! There are five levels of pure fun and subjects to explore. Our 2 year old loved her experience! There is even a play area with water and boats for little ones. They were a success! Lastly, we enjoyed stopping by the store and buying gifts for a very reasonable price. 10/10 recommended if you are in the Salt Lake City area!

A Billion Years Of History! This was the highlight of my SLC trip! The dinosaur exhibit was definitely the best part of the museum. As a child I've always wanted to see dinosaur bones but being from Ohio there's nothing that even compares. It was really enjoyedable to see the exhibit on the Temple Of Angkor. What made this exhibit even more special for me is because it reminded me of the time I was last in Cambodia where I made alot of amazing memories. Overall I would say this one of the best museums I have ever been to and would love to come back. If your considering on what places to see in SLC I highly recommended to put this at the top.

An incredible museum, fun for both adults and children. They feature new specialized exhibits about every 6 months which is nice to see and learn about new subject matter. They have very knowledgeable guides and people who are part of the exhibits that can give wonderfully detailed explanations of what you are looking at. Highly recommend this as a place to spend 2-4 hours depending on the pace with which you walk and read and comprehend what you see! Also, if you have kids that love dinosaurs, they have one of the best Dino exhibits I’ve ever seen, definitely worth going!

3-15-22 Went to Dinofest. Great lectures and displays today. 6-25-22 I went to bugfest today in my opinion not as cool as dino-fest but still really cool got to taste recipes with bugs in them. All kinds of bugs on display and bug related crafts and activities for the kids. As always the museum's usual collection is always awesome especially the fossils 1-29-23 Dinofest. Great again this year. Glad lectures are live again not virtual like last year 8/13/23 Bugfest again. Added lectures and more activities very cool today. Still got to try receipts with bugs vey tasty

Museum displays most everything nature did in Utah over millions of years. Learning that SLC valley was once under 1000 feet of water is hard to imagine, but the museum was able to show and explain it. Prehistoric creatures once roamed the area, sea life fossils are still found in the field. Life and how human kind survived 7000 years ago is also documented. Native American arts and crafts are also on display, There's something for everyone's interest and curiosity. Interactive displays for all ages, and a small dig site for children.

I’m biased because all natural history museums are wonderful and this one was no exception. Plenty of interactive things for kids to learn (I’m just a big kid at heart). The rocks and minerals section was pretty small, there was a lot about the history of Utah and it’s wildlife. “Did you know 80% of the species in Utah rely on the wetlands that only consist of 2% of Utah?” Lots of dinosaurs! Lots of facts about nature. A relatively small museum in comparison to others I’ve gone to. There is also a great view of the mountains from the museum.

Had a great time here with my two small kids. Lots of steps but there was an elevator for the stroller that was quick and convenient. The dinosaur exhibit was a little hard to find and my husband ended up having to go back through with our 5yr old to find it before we left. Some of the hands on features didn’t work but most did and they were fun for everyone. The staff were helpful and our toddler was free. The gift shop is pricey but had some great stuff that the kids are still enjoying weeks later.

This museum is amazing. I love how it's laid out, and it definitely looks like a canyon on the inside. You can go to the cafe without a ticket, if you want. But the museum is so worth the price. There's 5 floors with so much information. I loved the mineral area, and the dinosaurs from a local quarry were also great to look at. The native voices exhibit is so informative, and definitely worth the stop. Parking is free, and they have a good lot with ramps. The views from the cafe are great, and they gave bathrooms near the elevator exits.

The dinosaur exhibit is wonderful. I love the gemstone exhibit too. I also enjoy the geology exhibit that traces the history of Utah through millions of years of massive change. The museum regularly hosts visiting exhibits from all over the world. I recommend going during these times. There are also interactive activities for children in the mornings and at scheduled times. In other words, to get the most out this museum, you should look at their event schedule and plan ahead.

Easily one of the best thought out and organized museums in the world. The exhibits are captivating and engaging to all ages. Plan ahead and expect to be there for 2 to 5 hours. Well worth the price of admission at $20 a person. The staff is all friendly and helpful with answers to questions that come up. Exhibit glass and surrounding areas were kept very clean and we saw touchable surfaces cleaned regularly throughout the building. Bathrooms were clean

You must experience this place. I’ve been several times over the years. Parking is convenient and ample. The facility is immaculate. Everything is spotless clean, even the bathrooms, and staff are disinfecting regularly. Everything is set up to be touch less. They provide styluses to use during the visit at each exhibit. All the exhibits are amazingly maintained and the new installations are awesome. My three year old loves every aspect of this place. There is a lot to do and see and learn. The gift shop is pretty cool and prices are reasonable. I highly recommend.

What a great experience and well worth the visit. Not sure of cost as I went as veteran free this weekend. Located off Wakara way at University of utah. 5 floors to explore. Native American indigenous peoples on top, an observation deck looks out over the Salt Lake Valley. Dinosaur on a level some play and Interactive for the children. Wild life exhibits on one floor. A great walk through history. Everyone should visit if not once, many times. Gift shop and food court are here to.

This place was so awesome! We must've spent five hours there. We did what felt like EVERYTHING possible!! Our child had such a great time, especially with the interactive pieces like learning how water carves waterways and canyons. Myself, I most liked the dinosaur exhibit. The speaker who educated us about tarantulas and gopher snakes was also very informative. Honestly, if I lived here, I'd probably have an annual pass to this place.

Architectural jewel abuts the mountain-side overlooking Salt Lake City. Comprehensive exhibit on local first nation tribes is a must see, and floors on flora and fauna, rock formation and the dinosaur era are well curated and enough to interest both the young and old. Well worth a visit. Loved the dioramas. The cafe was being remodeled during our visit so pack snacks for the kids!

Went during dinosaur festival which was pretty fun. Remember that this is the natural history museum, not a dinosaur museum so it covers native Americans, the history of native utah, even the dinosaurs are all native in Utah. Very fun experience I would recommend. I only planned on staying 2 hours, my 4 year old insisted on staying and stayed focused and occupied for 5 hours.

It would be fantastic for school field trips, homeschool, just education in general. It’s a little more expensive than some other places, but it’s WELL worth it!!!

My favorite part was the Native American artifacts. A lot of the science exhibits are hands on / oriented for younger children. They also have an impressive array in of gems and minerals - many of which I had never heard of, but were very pleasing to the eye. It was quite expensive, and closes right at 5. I would have liked more time to explore the upper levels.

If you like looking at dead stuff and old stuff, this is the place for you! And there’s even some alive stuff, including hissing cockroaches, frogs, large spiders, etc. (all in tanks, of course). The sheer amount of fossils and dinosaur bones they have is really awe-inspiring, and they also have a huge amount of native american artifacts. This is a very educational environment, and would be a great place to take your kids to introduce them to some new concepts.

  • Morgan Adams

I would definitely recommend visiting here. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. You can reserve your spot online. It had plenty to see for the little kids and adults. The dinosaur fossils are impressive. It is stroller and wheelchair accessible. A lot of stuff for the kids to play with and touch. I didn't see hand sanitizer, so I would recommend bringing your own.

Breath-taking place. You'll dive deep into the history of Utah. It'll surely give you a serotonin boost. The palaeontology section is mind blowing. Loved their collection. The dinosaur's bones are marvellous. Their mineral collections are also praise-worthy. You'll need 3-4 hour min to visit the place. They have a cafe on the ground floor. The ticket fee is $20 for outsiders, free if you have a student pass (of the U) Highly recommended place.

Incredible natural history museum. It incorporates all your senses except taste. It has beautiful story telling with graphs, pictures, and objectives, and it invites the museum goer to engage in the scientific process. We have little kids, so they zip through museums and we don't get a chance to stop and read all the information, and it still took 3 hours to get through. The exhibits were fabulously displayed. The architecture of the building is art itself and the way the museum flows from floor to floor tells a story through time and keeps you fully engaged. We will certainly be back every time we find ourselves in SLC.

  • Tom Allen

Really enjoyed my experience at the Natural History Museum of Utah earlier today. I was surprised at how large the building was up on the hill behind the University of Utah and right next to Red Butte Garden. The Nature of Color exhibit had me hooked. This seemed to be the most crowded area and it was interactive. I also enjoyed the other exhibits, but I was especially drawn to The Nature of Color.

Such a fun museum. There are some great exhibits and the kids (littles and bigs) were very entertained. They especially loved the dinosaur skeletons and also the microscopes. The parking is tight but there was enough even during the busy time we were there.

Worth the visit! Life-size bone structures & fossil displays truly put into perspective the diversity of all life forms. The underwater dinosaur exhibit was my husband's fav. We don't have kids yet, but would be such a fun & educational activity if we did!

This place is awesome! We spent three hours there and could've stayed longer. The fossil exhibit is great, the color exhibit is fascinating, and the Native American exhibit is enlightening. Tons of parking (at least on a Friday afternoon in the summer).

I absolutely loved this place. There was something for all of us to do. My teenage children had fun with all the hands on exhibits.

It was so fun to see all the exhibits BUT, it was so hard to figure out where to go next. The exhibits are spread between 5 floors with very long distances to travel between them and not any direction signs. I'm sure we spent 20 minutes one

We love the museum! Great exhibits for all ages, and the rotating special exhibits are always really cool. My daughter will literally spend the entire day here if I let her, and even though I've got most of the full time exhibits memorized

  • Kat Sheppard

Amazing museum! Great staff who were friendly and knowledgeable. I loved how each section had a place to keep my 2year old nephew entertained! The displays were beautiful and well thought out; I learned a lot and was engaged throughout the

Super cool museum with lots of interactive exhibits. Accidentally visited it n school field trip day, whoops! But still had a great time. Huge collection of dino bones and lots of information on paleontology. We learned a lot about Utah!

  • Justin Cardenas

The museum itself is amazing, but your security is doing waaay too much, didnt even tell me anything went straight to saying hes got PD on the way to trespass. Walking around that building like hes in a dangerous state/city or something

This is one of the best museums I’ve been to in the past few years, especially around learning about dinosaurs. There is much to see, so it’s safe to carve out a few hours to half a day for a visit. Highly recommended! More

My family and I had a great time here. The dinosaur exhibit was top notch. My 14 yo did get a little bored after we left that area, but my husband and I really enjoyed all of the exhibits.

  • Marianne Stern

We go on Wednesdays when the Museum is open late since we got off work after 5 so it is a great chance to visit. We love it though it might be busier on this day and the weekends

  • Kalhiem Burrow

I love it! An amazing place to take your kids or just to go on a date. I love the history and the depth of how much this museum has to offer. Will be going again!

  • Scott Perdue

Awesome museum that also happens to be next to some great trails, like the Living Room Trail. The dinosaur exhibit may be the best I’ve seen.

  • Alicia Anderson Pigott

We love this museum. It's great for all ages and does an excellent job of displaying ancient Utah history. We are suckers for dinosaurs.

  • Gary Wright

It was a little confusing to understand the floors cuz they all merge together. But it was an amazing museum. Also it is accessible.

A must visit and can spend a good couple of hours here. Make sure to visit the rooftop for a great view of SLC

  • Saman Ray

Beautiful museum, may not have tons of stuff like other ones but there are good items on display.
