The Nyali Bridge is a concrete girder bridgeconnecting the city of Mombasa on Mombasa Island to the mainland of Kenya. The bridge crosses Tudor Creek (a tidal inlet) to the north-east of the island. The bridge is one of three road links out of Mombasa (the others being the Kipevu and Makupa Causeways). The Likoni Ferry provides a third transport link to the island, and is situated at the southern tip. The mainland approach to the bridge serves as a police checkpoint in both directions. It is 391.65 metres long and 26.3 metres wide with a total of six lanes. The main bridge is 330 metres prestressed continuous box girder over three spans with the centre span of 150 metres. The outer spans are 90 metres each. The bridge is founded on piled foundation. The newer Nyali Bridge includes an approach bridge with three spans totalling 61.65 metres whose superstructure is simply reinforced concrete beams and deck. Since its completion in 1980, no periodic maintenance was done to the bridge until 2005 when major repairs to the bridge were carried out. The repairs included post tensioning the box girder and shear strengthening using crack sealing and use of steel plates on the internal face of the box girder. (Wikipedia)
Wide road allays to ease congestion. A superb underground passage for accessing Nyali and Mkomani areas and the larger Kongowea market. This has in turn made work easier for traffic who sometimes take advantage to take improper fines. The Passanger lane has reduced human traffic accidents and more so relatively fast movement of cars and persons. In addition it connects Mombasa and Kilifi County, Mombasa Island and Nyali Leafy Mtwapa Suburbs. Welcome for eye cactchy scenarios
Facilitates fast movement with lanes for pedestrians and motorbikes. Approaches on both sides offer convenient entries and exits. Although damaged demarcations take time to repair, the breeze here would tempt a motorist to slow down a bit to feel it. The Japanese who constructed in the early '80s fitted it with a large analog clock at the center. I wonder where it went.
An amazing stretch over the Indian ocean connecting the island of Mombasa to the main land of Kenya. It's part of the Mombasa - Malindi highway with Buxton as the last stage before leaving the island and Lights & Kongowea as the first stage immediately you cross the bridge. The Kongowea market is where you find the famous Kingeleni a rich part of Kenyan history.
Its engineering is a concrete girder bridge connecting Mombasa island with mainland and is perfect , strong and safe to us as per now, though its being in use for about 40year, but is engineered to last for a hundred years and is always busy at mornings and evening hours . Authorities should void a still traffic on the bridge for the safety of bridge users
I encountered the force of nature , the wind blew against me and produced a drag while i was cyling from kongowea towards buxton across the nyali bridge..... but on returning back the same wind almost airlifed me up from the road as it gave me a push ahead , my cycling speeds were so high that i moved parallel to cars # Noma sana
A first rainy experience by this bridge on foot was unforgettable. On this rainy afternoon, I was gorged in rain, even an umbrella won't help. Even if it's a drizzle, wait before crossing on foot. It has a beautiful scene, cool breeze that'll refresh even the most scorching heat. Pass by on foot to have a view you won't regret
The New Nyali Bridge is a concrete girder bridge linking Mombasa Island to the Kenyan mainland spanning across Tudor Creek. Before it used to be a floating pontoon bridge built in the 1930's before it got replaced in the 1980's with the now concrete bridge.
Connecting north mainland with the island....a night walk is relaxing, the breeze leaving chills on your skin...well protected (double rail)foot path that can fit common wheelchairs.. foot traffic: morning hours and evening upto 1900hrs.
The breeze from the ocean is wow! You can as well have a view of NYALI at a far distance, as well as water sporting activities from Tudor Creek water sports racing in the ocean down through the bridge to the other side, Nyali
Its a bridge for f*$cks sake. Has only one job. Although there's some potholes and traffic cameras and cops hang out there. They get particularly antsy mornings and evenings. Other than that its a f#$ing bridge.
Nyali bridge is where i grew under the bridge and its really a nice place when you are on top of the bridge you can have a nice view of the buildings and hotels which along the ocean. Its a nice place to be.
What a wonderful bridge, long and across an ocean to join an island to rest of kenyan soil. Attractive and you can only feel the vibration of the heavy vehicles crossing over
It’s a bridge. Hugely important for transportation purposes and adequately caters for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians. Not sure whether it is a “must visit” in Mombasa.
This is the bridge that links Mombasa city to the northern part of coastal city. Its dual carriage enables it to efficiently handle it's massive human and motor traffic
This bridge is big enough to pass three vehicles at once heading to the same direction. And its a two way traffic bridge. The bridge also it was built by experts
Nice to cross the bridge with their relatively new street lights and peer up and down the creek. Shame to have the police stops holding up the traffic
just cool and stong indeed with lights along for safety during night hours,,,, it makes movement easy between inland Mombasa and island Mombasa
Spacious walking space for pedestrians. Perfect view of all time... Developing Shehena apartments welcoming you on othe side of the city.
Nyali bridge connects Mombasa island to the North coast. You can view the magnificent structure from a small boat or medium-sized yacht.
Constructed with the best technology of the 21st cent, strong and supports safe passage of people and goods across the Tudor Creek.
Alot of improvement can still be made. Lightning should be improved. And flow of traffic to be well controlled during peak hours.
The way this place lights up at night! is just beautiful. And the scenery as the creek opens up to the ocean is divine... …
The bridge was long! But so beautiful. I'd definitely recommend going across the bridge at sunset and taking a selfie or two.
It's a good view to release the stress and pressure u’ve had, though it's not ideal place at night as there are no lights
The bridge is nice, the breeze is cool. What I would encourage is for the county council to ensure the bridge is clean
Hitorical construction of one of the oldest, highest and longest heavy-duty bridges in East and Central Africa.
The view of the ocean and surrounding towns (Tudor, Buxton and Kengeleni) is interesting. More so at night.
Traffic men along the bridge are doing very good job, thumps up,especially during happy hour excellent !
Cool place to walk and look at the island... Near the technical university of Mombasa.... Awesome view
Great.. just for some traffic in the late evenings and mornings.. but is a good adventurous place
With the overhead sun being no shed along the pedestrian lane walking is not a good preference.
Great view of a section of Tudor, Nyali and old town! One of the beautiful sceneries in Mombasa
The nyali bridge. Overview photograph of the bridge marks an awesome picture of the coast city
The foot pathway is always congested during rush hour bt i like the breeze along the bridge
Nice place and really cool and fresh air place and a great scenery looking down the water
easy to use for both pedestrians and vehicles.. a cool breeze as you cross …
