The youth sports program here is a JOKE! Last fall my son did tball and went the entire season without a coach! Each parent had to be out there coaching their own kid the whole time, and nobody was notified about team pictures ahead of time so half the team wasn't there for them. We decide to give the Y another chance and my 11 year old son is doing 7on7 football now. First of all, I never heard anything from the coach before the season started about when practices would start, so I had to call the Y and have them tell the coach to email me. A few days later I finally get an email saying their first practice is today at 6pm. The email came in at 6:05pm. So my son missed his first practice because the coach didn't have my email address for some reason. Then his 2nd practice was weathered out. So when we arrived for his first game, we didn't even know who the coach was nor had my son been given the opportunity to practice with his actual team. What's more, when we arrive, they tell me they gave his jersey to a kid that registered late (despite us having registered my son months ago) and give my son a jersey that doesn't match his teammate's and says Coach on the back and fits him like a dress. I was told his would be in by the next game. At the next game I asked his coach about it and he said "oh I dont know nothin bout no jersey, he can just play in what he's in" and no one from the Y was there to talk to about it. Speaking of the coach, the coach told everyone to be there 2:30 for a 3pm game, but the coach didn't get there until 3:01! And with no text or notice that he was running late. Then the practice following that game was cancelled altogether due to the coach's own personal schedule. We're not even going to bother finishing the season. This is such a waste of time and lies on the Y's sports director.
We've recently joined up as well as the child care is great (in the child care section). That said, outside the childcare walls, there are a number of kids climbing and playing on the equipment. They're not doing anything other than getting in the way and most are unsupervised. It's annoying having to wait for a treadmill so that 6 year old can screw around on it just to push buttons. The main locker room doors are also really dangerous! They open outward to the main walking strip and I've already hit some people opening the door (yes I opened it slowly). Why wouldn't they make these swing INWARD to not interfere with the main path? OR put a window on the outside door so that you can see people before opening the door? OR better yet, there are 2 doors to get into the locker room.. just remove the outside one... Furthermore, there are never any towels and most people don't seem to wipe down the equipment afterward. While my wife enjoys the classes, I'm not impressed.
I like YMCA. Especially the ladies at the entrance they are so friendly. I sent my kid to soccer lessons and swimming lesson years ago so we decide to try swimming lesson again this summer. The only good thing about the lesson was my kid had fun with other kids. Many students in our lesson were late frequently. So was one of the female coach. Sometimes she even sneaked in the class through fence door from the back. There are only 30 minutes each class and I didn’t get why coach waited for late students to arrive then started the lessons. It’s not fair for other students. The female coaches chatted with each other during the class and complained they are so tired. Just so unprofessional. I can’t believe how disrespectful they were. Is it because your students are young and naive? You can tell some coaches didn’t even want to be there. By the way, I don’t know the coach’s name cause she never introduced herself. I hope YMCA can hire better people.
Class schedule is abysmal. There is only 1 class at 7:30 in the evenings, and very few classes on the weekends. It didn't make sense to continue if I could only make a class or two a month so I went in today to cancel my membership, which they make you do in person. Huge inconvenience and completely unnecessary except it gives them the opportunity for a hard sell to get you to stay. I was told that if I had come in the day before I would have made the 30 day cutoff and wouldn't be charged for July. Well I work so I couldn't go the day before. So now I'm going to get charged again in July for something I won't use. Oh but they said my membership is valid until August 15....useless. Not sure what the purpose of a 30 day cancellation notice is except to bilk more money from members. Its not like there's a waiting list to join. Also their website mentions dues being pro-rated and refunds issued for unused portions but that apparently isn't the case.
Called today for information on swim lessons and summer camp, I was completely disappointed that the young gal that answered knew nothing and kept referring me to their website, which I had already visited before even calling. Poor customer service in my opinion, not even sure why pay staff to answer phones if they can't answer any questions and just refer you to the website. I'm also turned off by the fact that there is not an option to register in person as the website forces you to accept automatic billing and I'm not interested in doing that for one summer camp week. Also, you can't even do group swim lessons unless you form your own group with friends and family. This location is right by my house but now I feel compelled to find a different location for swim lessons and summer camp, very unfortunate.
Done with the YMCA after 12 years. I've been a volunteer coach for several seasons. We've had at least one of our kids in a sport with the YMCA for the past 12 years. They finally got basketball back this past winter. No playoffs for the older teams and almost every game we played had just one ref. No spring season. Was told Summer basketball would start in July. Now I see from the website that the next season won't be until December. No update from anyone at the YMCA. They easily could have sent out an email to at least the previous coaches so that we could have had our returning players go elsewhere instead of waiting around for a season that wasn't going to happen. This place is going down hill and the person in charge of organizing the sports seems he couldn't care less.
I really love this location- the front desk staff are always positive, smiling and inviting. The Y warrior classes with Marci and Laney are incredibly empowering as are their spirits and instruction. Madelyn in childcare who also does some kids class instruction is amazing and has just the right balance of energy, positivity and keeping little ones engaged and following directions. The people are why we keep coming back and I wish I could name everyone who has made us smile and feel welcomed as a family when we visit. The facility may not be able to compete with the ritzy gyms but we find ourselves here the most.
Youth Sports staff does not respond to concerns about their programs' rules not being followed. I have emails that were ignored (but thanks to out of office notifications I know were received) going now on over a month. Also when confronted can not point out anything in their procedures that says what they are claiming verbally. In my opinion they tend to only play by the rules they feel like when they feel like it and make them up and enforce ones that don't exist in their written rules as they please.
Youth baseball program was HORRIBLE. My son played in 8U coach pitch. Scores were not kept properly, our team had 3 wins that were not reported because the scorer responsible was a parent on the other team and I guess didn't wanna report a loss for their team. There was also a team that had obviously played together a while, probably a select team, comprised of kids that were TOWERING over some of our kids. They had to be 10 or 11. Easy to say that I will never bring my child to play here again.
Baseball program is completely unorganized. This is our second year of trying to put my son in the program. The first year he was told to be on one team. He did 1 practice and then the following week moved him to a team that had no coach. My husband had to step up to coach. The end of the year they lost his participation trophy. This year the orientation and start of the season got delayed. Waste of money. Good luck trying to get ahold of anyone who is responsible for organizing the season.
A completely filthy area. I bought a membership for YMCA but after going and seeing the place, I decided it wasn't worth it. After canceling the membership I did NOT recieve a refund as promised on the website. ( The website said they will happily refund the unused portion of the membership) the also charge me again the month after even though I cancelled my membership already. I did NOT get a refund for that either. What a joke of a amusement center!
Patrick Dukes absolutely awful. Our girls go without uniforms nearly the entire season, no team photos. Patrick responds with banning me from attending my child’s volleyball games for having spoken up for all the other disgruntled parents. What a joke. No refund, no answer for robbing all of us of what we paid for. Absolute worst sports experience we have ever been through. I suggest going somewhere they care about equality.
Have reported monitor at one of the upright bikes as malfunctioning three times. Nothing done. Turns off like clockwork between 7 and 8 minutes and has to be turned back on and reset. Very irritating when watching something like sports or news. Despite the printed sign, there is no coffee after noon. When asked we were told they don't make any after that time.
Every class that I have taken the instructors have made it such a great experience. I have never felt judgement from the instructors or any if the other members. Staff is always friendly and helpful with questions, and the child care availability is what makes it all possible. Joining the YMCA has been one of the best investments I have made for myself.
I have been very impressed with this program. There are always a lot of different activities offered (swimming, playground, inside and outside games, field trips, arts and crafts) which my son enjoys. The program is structured and provides a routine but also in the context of summer camp and promoting fun!! All of the camp counselors have been wonderful
Such a fun, family friendly atmosphere with activities for all stages of life (kids, teens, adults, seniors). Welcoming and engaging staff who WANT to get to know you and your family. Enthusiastic instructors and trainers who are committed to you becoming not just physically strong but mentally strong. Everyone at the Y genuinely cares about you!!!
Variety of times/types of group X classes and my awesome Personal Trainer, Jessica Thompson. I like the family-oriented atmosphere and that it’s not so overwhelming when you walk in. I love that James always calls out my nickname when I walk through the sliding doors like I’m the most famous person in the gym. I look forward to coming to workout.
My daughter went to swim lessons every year since she was four and had gotten great instructors each time. This year it was different. She had class at 9am with one instructor to six kids. I complained to the manager on this and didn't get anywhere. Needless to say we won't be going back which is sad because it's only minutes from our house.
The Y keeps the kids actively engaged throughout the day with various activities. They encourage the kids to befriend one another and to work together as a team. I've seen my child's self-confidence grow since attending summer camp at the Y. I know my child is in a safe environment while learning new skills and having fun.
My 3 year old recently completed a two week swim class at Northpark. Although weather presented some challenges, I was happy with the classes and instructors. The lessons were reasonably priced and had several options for times. I would recommend them to others and will probably do additional lessons for my son next year.
I love the group exercises I have tried so far. The facility is kept clean and sanitizing wipes are available throughout the gym area. The kids love the playhouse. Swim instructors are great and patient with the kids. The locker room is always clean and there's lots of lockers available everytime I've needed to use one.
Don't ever use YMCA. It is very difficult to cancel membership. I submited cancellation on 12/1/22 but until 2/1 they still take money from my credit card event they sent me email to confirm my cancellation request on 12/1/2022. I called YMCA near my house to refund me two month but no body pick up the phone.
I recently joined this YMCA. The location and equipment is fine but the 5 stars goes to the personal trainer I hired named Dan-ette! She did an excellent job training and getting me into shape. I was recommended to her and she exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend using her for personal training needs.
I've never been to a gym where the patrons are so inconsiderate. Nobody wipes the equipment after use. I have spoken to the staff many times about it, and they do nothing. Patrons will hog equipment for excessive time while looking at their phone instead of moving on. Terrible gym.
Very bad not clean if you canceled membership they don't refund you they didn't say that when you join they take from me 2months pay and we even didn't go there only one time and I orady pay 30$for one hour they nice when you join only after that they don't care
Did free swimming lessons for water safety here. Instructors were great. Only got a few classes for about 40 minutes each, but for free so it was great. Thanks YMCA for water safety class. My child knows more about what she can do to stay safe.
Horrible experience with the communication for the football and basketball, no proper communication about the coach, practice and games. Very irresponsible people, no service after paying money. Need a good management here.
Had a great time at youth wrestling tonight. Coach was great. I wonder if they need two on duty at once with such a full class but it was wonderful. The rest of the facility is nice and the staff is friendly.
Great! I exercised for an hour with silver sneakers. I was happy to see old friends that I didn't see since March. The number is limited and each one sanitizes his equipment, keeps distance and uses masks.
Loved visiting this Y. The staff was super friendly. We went to the outdoor pool and had a blast. The lifeguards enforced water safety, and that is a huge plus. We will definitely visit again.
My kids have had positive experiences playing basketball and t ball. It's low stakes, with the focus on skill building and enjoyment and not on competitiveness. It's low cost and high fun!
My second home!! The atmosphere is just so welcoming and so comforting! I love this place! My kids absolutely LOVE it too! It’s the perfect gym for the whole family! …
I recently started working out at this YMCA. Facility as well-maintained with plenty of exercise equipment and classes. The friendly staff makes working out even more enjoyable.
Coach Michael was amazing. Great in communicating. Great training skills. His love for the game and the kids is more than evident. Thank you for a fantastic soccer season!
They have very small pool and a lot of rules. Those who do not allow children to play with pool toys. Some swimming guards are so rude and they get angry with the kids.
Best place for the whole family to workout. Staff was nice and very helpful. Plenty of cleaning supplies to make sure the equipment is safe. Still the best Y I go to.
I enrolled in the Silver Sneakers program, so now I can exercise indoors and stay out of the extreme heat. I also like the surrounding nature trails for birding.
Helpful and friendly staff, clean facility, and great classes to choose from. Absolutely LOVE the Silver Sneakers classes! I'm kicking myself for not getting
Youth baseball has been an unorganized mess. You get no information. No practice days, noone to speak to regarding questions or concerns. Would not recommend.
Great staff. They have a great variation in both equipment and classes. They also offer babysitting, and they have fun contests throughout the year.
Great location and friendly staff. The programming is great too—something for everyone at every age. The kids especially enjoy the seasonal pool.
Excellent personnel currently working and assisting everyone who requires any kind of help! Various programs and activities are always available.
I love the variety of group classes at times I can actually make it to. And the child care programs! I could NOT do it without the child care :)
Great classes and staff! Also, the people exercising at this Y are so friendly! They introduce themselves and invite you to be in the "famiy."
The only squat rack is not set up properly. Rungs are at odd heights and the safeties are permanently set too high. Also, there's no dip belt.
Excellent place with best service, equipment and professional staff. Best of all everything is clean and in working condition. …
So disappointed we pay are monthly fee so we can go when ever we want to the pool. They don't even have enough lifeguards for the pool.
As a powerlifter the YMCA gym is a great place to hone my muscles and get stronger, while also being surrounded by like minded people
We were impressed with the facility and we had great swim lessons with Coach Jason. My kids are both more confident in the water now.
Been a member for years. Why are the hours so poor in weekends when everyone is off work. Till 4pm in Saturday?? Unacceptable.
From an out of town branch. Very pleased with the kind, welcoming front desk. Nice clean, newer facility with good equipment.
Excellent, inexpensive, welllaid out, plenty of free parking, lots of help, experience employees in and willing to help you
Helpful and friendly staff, clean facility, great instructors, and variety of classes to choose from. Love ❤️ my Y!!!
Do not go if you are a dead lifter the assistant director will single you out every time you "drop" the weight
Excellent staff. Equipment clean. Some people do not wipe down after use but James does an excellent job.
Great customer service and facility! A nice kids summer camp! Happy to be a member for years!
I paid for the pool, they always found a reason and closed it. a complete disappointment :(
Wonderful place to work out. Rachel is a great person. Also everyone at the front desk!
Neat and clean place. Very welcoming staff. New equipments. Wonderful place to work out
The North Park Y is a place to get healthier, meet new people, and enrich your soul.
My daughter LOVEs the day camp!! She actually asks to stay as late as possible
I donated blood for American Red Cross. It was well set up and efficiently run
Great classes and equipment is very good. Staff are great and very welcoming.
Very clean. Very nice front desk employees. Tough life guards! Good on them.
Wish they had more transportation from school for the after school programs.
For the price it is great! Awesome place for a very good work out. Love it/
Great atmosphere. Great staff. A good place to achieve your healthy goals.
We went to my son's baseball practice here. The field is in decent shape
I go three to five times a week, easy to use and spacious enough.
I wish the had more classes in the evening, but I love it anyway.
Nice staff and enough equipment/weights to get a decent workout.
Clean, great customer services, machines were working properly
Needs to wider variety of classes for different skill levels
Great up-to-date equipment and perfect classes for seniors!
