Im giving one star only because I have to to save my own review. I am writing this for two reasons, one - i was sold the wrong book, secondly when i realised it was the wrong book i called to advise them and was told i would receive a call from the owner. Two weeks on I follow up with the store who dont have my name or my contact info, i was advised the owner had been out at concerts and had perhaps forogt to follow up with me, what?. Later that day the owner calls and says she cant find me in the system and my names dont match with what she has??? No chat about sorry for your inconvenience or that it took them two weeks to get back to me. Honestly you would think that just by the nature of their business they could show a little compassion for their clients, its a $50 book which i bought on the advice of their staff - what do i know??? I am a business owner and the happiness of my clients is of utmost importance to me, my computer system does not determine if my client is right or not - my mutual understanding of my clients needs does. If someone complains i am on it that day - not two weeks later. Shocked and saddened wont be back and will tell everyone who will listen.
I visited this store for the first time today and brought my 4-year old with me. After perusing the online shop and seeing the amazing selection of sensory tools they offered, I knew we needed to check it out. My son got to explore the different sensory toys and I was able to see what interested/helped him the most. He became dysregulated towards the end of our visit and started running around the store. One of the wonderful employees came to talk to him and very kindly asked him to walk instead of run to make sure everyone stayed safe. Although I felt stressed about trying to manage his dysregulated behaviour, I certainly did not feel judged or shamed. In other stores, I often get the feeling that my parenting skills are being questioned when my son experiences dysregulation, but Odin is such a supportive, inclusive environment which I truly appreciate. We will 100% shop here again.
What a gem of a bookstore, with books for mental health, special needs, anxiety and much more. I am so grateful to have found this amazing store and am happy to be able to support a local business They also have other great resources such as posters, card sets, sensory regulation tools/toys and many other treasures to be found. Prices are good and the staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I happened across the store's website while looking for a particular resource and placed an online order for pickup. I was promptly called that day to inform me that one item needed to be ordered but I could pickup the rest of my order at any time. This will now be my go to place to find the resources I need to work with my clients with autism..
A wonderful store for those who are looking for self-development books and tools for various ages. Can be especially of interest to practitioners of helping professions, parents looking for ideas for meaningful gifts for kids, and anyone interested in psychology, therapy and wellness. Also it is the only store in Vancouver (as far as I know), which offers a collection of MACards ( metaphorical associative cards ), especially many decks from the OH-cards series which I highly recommend to anyone as it is a fantastic tool for storytelling, therapy, counselling, life coaching and self-development.
A really great little book store for those who struggle with mental health ailments. An amazing selection of books for all ages combined with a stim-toy section really makes this a one-stop shop for those seeking some guidance on their journey with their mental health. I was delighted to see some stim toys I have struggled to find and picked up some of my favourite mighty putty mini’s! Staff was ready and willing to help, and the environment was calm and welcoming, making it perfect for those with autism to get what they need without having to deal with social pressures and high noise levels.
I walked by this bookstore today and decided to check out their selection. I work as an SLP with a wide population and was VERY impressed with their selection, which included books for kids and adults about anxiety, autism, social skills, and a range of mental health topics, etc. Owner was very friendly. Overall a great little store!
A wonderful bookstore and my go to place to purchase sensory tools and educational toys for the children in my life. I hope that during the pandemic and always, local bookstores such as Odin Books receive much support from the community and stay with us for generations to come.
We had looked for a specific book on autism and were unable to find it. Odin not only ordered it for me, they shipped it to my daughter in Alberta! They even included a note with a smiley face . Great, friendly, efficient service. Thank You. …
