I wasn’t sure about this place after looking at the reviews, however tried it out anyway. I was surprised that the security was actually really friendly and we struck up a good conversation. The “earlybird” drinks were amazingly cheap and they filled glasses to the rim. The music was okay although it got very repetitive as it just felt like a lot of pop with notes of techno which you could tell the crowd was hungry for but the dj never went fully into that sort of music despite it getting much later into the night. I know you can’t cater for everyone but I think it could have changed the energy in a good way. Overall, this place seems to have a bad wrap in the reviews but it was not like people make it out on here. If you’re young and in Hobart on a weekend i’d recommend trying this place out.
Attitude of the bouncers is absolutely disgusting- my boyfriend was denied entry to the club last night due to the type of shoes he was wearing, which happened to be his work boots. Personally I think bouncers should focus more on the types of shoes that will actually do damage, which is the toothpick thin heels that all the girls wear that I have genuinely seen puncture other peoples feet before. At the end of the day I honestly never expected bouncers to care more about shoes than public intoxication and people doing hard drugs in line. I’ve worked in bars before and our main customers are tradies, which my boyfriend is not, and I can assure that “work boots” are most definitely not on the no entry list. They just want to deny people entry for their own enjoyment.

Really sexist bouncers, all my friends where let in and where off their faces but because I wasn’t looking happy they didn’t let me go in. Disgraceful behaviour, my friends wanted me to go in with them to make sure nothing would happen to them and I had to wait 45 minutes to “get better” bouncers just ruined my weekend. Extremely unhappy with this “friendly” club. Do not go here with a ounce of sadness they will not let you in. I do not recommend this place. Fix your bouncers

I almost got rejected from entering obar at around 11:45 pm last night because the indian bouncer didn't accept my ID (drivers license). I am 20 years old, and my driver's licence and a credit card are all I carry with me on a night out. The bouncer was very rude, yet I stayed calm and collected as my ID was valid and real. I understand my hair has grown a little longer, and I was wearing make-up that night, but that should not excuse the rudeness I experienced. Get better security guards, please and ones that can read ID correctly.
Going to Obar was a fun experience, I hadn't been there since they moved to the new spot and it is a lot nicer. There is much more space and honestly the only thing that kinda sucks is all the stairs but once you get past that it's a pretty good venue. The drinks are low - mid process depending on what you get and the vibes are pretty good!
Absolutely terrible management :/, whoever the short manager was has a God complex and gets off on denying valid id, since when is the only acceptable id a drivers license

The bouncers are so rude to you. They tried to kick me and my friends out on my 21st. I’ll never come back until the bouncers have more respect for people
1 star is too high. This place is horrific. And the bouncers bruised my arm when they stamped it.

Really rude bouncers. Absolutely mean and unnecessarily snarky.

The DJs are stale as hell and won't play anything released past 2013.
