Recently we've had the opportunity to meet our Odesa guide Leonid again. He impressed us as a positive and open-hearted man, who loves his job. Nowadays you can meet such people absolutely infrequently. It has already happened, that the word "enthusiasm" causes more an ironic smile today. That is why such Leonid's personal qualities are genuinely admirable and deserve to be respected. It is felt, that this man is really partial to his Motherland's destiny, that Odesa region for him is something more, than just a place to live. He has got a professional talent, remarkable knowledge of history and ability to interest. Leonid shows people his life views, helps them to see Odesa region in a new way. Usually I’m quite skeptical as for competency of guides and information value of their incessant, idle chatter (not without reason and unfortunate experience). This time, however, I had to entertain for a couple of days my visiting relatives and, having no time and to be truthful being a poor storyteller, I decided to rely on the recommendations and called Leo. Well…what to say? His recommendations are well-deserved. On the first day I accompanied my kin on a city tour, intending to have some fun by making venomous comments on the nonsense I expected to hear. But in a half an hour I found myself obediently following our guide through the city and listening with a great attentiveness to his artistic and, more importantly, substantial performance (not to say that my first attempts to comment something were crudely hushed by my own niece…who will not receive her New Year’s present due to the unfortunate mistake of post services). From now on I could relax and forget all concerns for my guests: tours to museums, Catacombs, Second World War memorial, Odessa Film Studio, issues of food, transport and shopping, useful tips regarding places to visit on their own…he was almost as useful as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. As a result, for the next two days my relatives were returning tired, but completely satisfied and stuffed with new impressions. I suppose that the best tribute that I can give to Leo’s professional skills is my time, that I spend now, by writing this comment. And, of course, my sincere recommendations!

Si está buscando un guía extraordinario que no te aburrirá por media hora con miles de fechas, entonces Leo y su equipo es exactamente lo que está buscando. Muy recomendable!

Leonid Tanatarov was my guide in Odessa in the summer of 2017, in my first visit to the city. In a walking tour lasting several hours, Leonid provided an excellent introduction to Odessa's spectacular history, its architectural patrimony, its cultural heritages, and its diverse neighborhoods. Leonid's knowledge of the city was deep and impressive, as was his passion for it––which is to say, his feeling for the city's moods and textures, which lent his tour a depth well beyond information alone. Leonid's particular talent as a guide was his capacity to create an experience of Odessa and not just his presentation of Odessa. Many other guindes are not so skilled––essentially colonizing their subject with their approach and account of it. Leonid knew how to use his role as guide to open the city for me, and then let the city itself act. Not least, Leonid's English was excellent. At the very end of last year summer, our traveling fraternity of 4 people took roads to Odessa ... First days we, armed with a map-guide, independently explored old streets. But soon we wanted to know city closer. And then we had Odessa city tour with a local guide Leonid. The city before our eyes played new colors. Thanks to Leonid we saw a lot of new things, with different eyes we looked at beauties that already seen yesterday, and also climbed into secluded corners of city, where we could hardly get ourselfs. Miraculously, with easy hand of Leo, even closed doors were opened before us, and we saw unusual layouts of inner courtyards, or, for example, ancient forged stairs. Keen on interesting narrative, we did not notice we walked a few hours to a row. We left Odessa full of new pleasant impressions and positive emotions, a considerable part of which is, of course, merit of our guide! For which we thank you so much!!

I visited Odessa film studio last holidays, and for me it was the best experience of this type of excursion, although I`ve been to Mosfilm and Lenfilm before. And the reason is our tour guide Leonid. He found his own key of presentation, that wouldn`t be boring even for a schoolchildren (which group I was lucky to join). Leonid was absolutely charming with his ability to interest teenagers, make them think, to explain the nuances, with his lively facial expressions and witty remarks. Extra bonus - cat Njusja: it turns out, cats in museums are also welcome. Suddenly, we were allowed to touch and to pick up different objects from the exposition - tactile sensations are also very important. I consider it was my great success to get here. Thank you Leonid! Our small group came to Odessa during big trip over Ukraine. Firstly we studied this beautiful city without guide. Just walked around and observed Odessa attractions. Afterwards we decided to know more from local tour guide. That's how we find Leonid and it was kind of luck. This man is totaly in love with his city and it's history. At first we got main sightseeing odessa tour, but then Leonid proposed us to visit catacombs. During catacombs tour we spent underground nearly four hours!! It was incredible feeling! Endless mine tonnels. Gloomy atmosphere. Many stories of that place. Unforgettable experience! Thanks to Leonid, we felt save there and didn't fear to get lost. We caught a 1200 tour which was perfect in duration at 2 hours. There's more to the catacomb network than can possibly be seen in a single day, but this tour provides a mix of different artifacts, exhibits, and tales from all the different eras of the catacomb's history--not just the part about it being an abandoned Soviet shelter. We were fortunate that our tour group was just four people--we encountered larger groups from other tours, so we were happy to have a more personal experience with Leo, our guide. We were treated to a small snack and a compelling story of WWII partisans during our break, which also featured a chance to sample some strong liquor. I recommend this tour--but don't throw the coins in the pond, it harms the fish!

What a wonderful tour! Leo was extremely knowledgeable, and the information was so interesting. Perfect balance between keeping things moving and sharing information. Also, it was the perfect length. I recommend deciding between the adventure tour and the standard catacombs tour Leo offers based on your clothing and mobility. I personally enjoyed the walking on the adventure tour (fairly flat, but you have to be sure-footed), but I was not dressed well - this was well-advertised, and simply poor planning on my part. Either tour (or both tours!) would be enjoyable, but do not miss the opportunity to take one of these great, safe, fun, and informative tours with this knowledgeable local!

Odessa City Tourin thr Just off Deribasivska Street there’s a sumptuous late-19th-century shopping passage covered with a metal and glass canopy. The Odessa Passage is part of a sizeable development that includes a hotel on its upper three floors. It’s all in a lavish Academic style: You’ll be met at the entrances by statues of Mercury and Fortuna, and on the first floor there are stucco mouldings and rows of exuberant sculptures. Its all a testament to the extravagance of the last years of Tsarist Russia. The passage has boutiques, souvenir shops and cafes to potter around, and a plaque commemorates the site of Carl Fabergé’s Odessa branch

Hello, in August, I visited the Odessa Film Studio. I have long wanted to visit her and finally I managed to go there. Once there, I felt the atmosphere of each film and played some roles in my mind, and Leopold Vredenhgausen, a wonderful person and master of his craft, helped me in this. Without his huge baggage of knowledge and involvement in his work, I would not have felt the spirit of the time when the film studio was really great and famous throughout the USSR and produced many beautiful films. Leopold Fredenhgausen, if you read my words, thank you for your professionalism and wonderful excursion.

I met Leonid during big tour around Ukraine. My group and I were especialy interested in jewish places and our last point was Odessa. Leonid was a guide who did sightseeing Odessa tour for us. First of all I liked his style: unobtrusive and attentive to the desires of tourists. He told us a lot of facts about Odessa, choosing interesting and exciting stories without any unnecessary information. It's rare when tour guide can make a tour as conversation, but not as a lecture. Highly recomend get city tour with Leonid!! You will know many interesting things from him and spend a good time.

Our guide, Leo, was extremely communicative, friendly, and flexible before booking the tour and in adapting to our needs (including us running late). He's an intriguing and fun guide who is both a captive storyteller and a knowledgeable expert, capable of responding to all of our questions. We only did the shorter museum tour (which was a great value for money) and regret we couldn't do a longer, wild tour in the catacombs - all 3 members of our party would have loved to do it the following day. Highly recommended not to mention the small group size for added personalization. Do it!

Wonderful visit with Leo who, through his knowledge and his anecdotes, will immerse you in the history of the 2nd World War and the Cold War. In addition there is a constant temperature which will allow you to cool off in summer or warm up in winter .

The tour was very interesting. Our guide told the amazing the story of Odessa with such passion just for 5 peole grupe. We saw most beautiful places in Odessa and heard interesting, quite funny syories that you wouldn't be able to see and hear being on tour bus. The best part of our expierence was the unbelieveble stories witch was not what we had expected. P.s. Couple days ago I was accompanied by private guide Leonid during catacombs tour inside partizan museum. Musem itself pretty simple, but Leo show it from many different sides: short and meaningfully about appearing of Odessa catacombs and miners life, altogether with interesting catacombs stories of nowadays. Amazing. A wonderful experience that I would recomend to anyone who's keen on exploring and learning something important about Odessa, except who's claustrophobic. I would personally recomend the wild tour, for it gives you the chance to see a lot of different scenarios. Had a great tour today. Get the tram 5 from the station to kolontavsk street ( about 10 minutes). It’s well worth a trip into the Odessa underworld. Leo will guide you from 1794 to the present day. We did the tour Wild #1. It was a great and exciting experience. We have seen a lot of very interesting and amazing places beyond the museum. The guide Leo seemed to know each stone, gave a lot of information and told us interesting stories - we could feel his enthusiasm. The catacombs are a must have in Odessa and one of our highlights.

We had walking tour with a group of children around Odessa and film studio. I cared, that it's could be too hard for kids to listen historical information, but we would lucky with a guide. I found Leo on Google maps and he had a group Catacombs tour available. It was a great tour of the catacombs (old mines without any dead bodies) that have been partially converted into a Soviet era emergency bunker. He had plenty of useful information without it being dull. I recommend his catacombs tour.

Leo is an excellent guide, he is so resourceful and friendly, he knew so much about the underground, during the tour he just kept on throwing different stories, big or small, which added so much fun to the short trip, I would definitely recommend him and if I come back, I would book a wild tour with him.

A great tour of the Catacombs, we only organised it the night before but they made it all very easy. The guide helped organise taxis after the tour and even took a couple with him as he was heading into the centre himself. highly recommended if you want a different view of Odessa.

Leonid was an entertaining and knowledgeable guide, with tons of good stories to tell about the catacombs. The tour itself went through many different chambers and passages within the tunnel network right under the city. Highly recommended!

I highly recommend it. The guy was very welcoming, knew what he talks about and tells interesting stories about the place. He even shared tea and cookies with us under the ground. If you are intended to go to catacombs, don't search much.
