I recently visited Old Market Square in Winnipeg and I was really impressed. The square is located in the heart of the city's Exchange District, which is a historic area that is full of old brick buildings and cobblestone streets. Old Market Square is a great place to relax and people-watch, and there are also a number of restaurants and shops in the area. The centerpiece of Old Market Square is The Cube, a unique performance space that is made up of a concrete cube enclosed by a flexible metal membrane. The membrane can be opened or closed to create a variety of different spaces, and it is used for a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, and markets. In addition to The Cube, Old Market Square also has a number of other amenities, including a playground, a fountain, and a variety of benches and tables. There is also a large mural on one of the walls of the square that depicts the history of the Exchange District. Overall, I thought Old Market Square was a fantastic and cozy place to spend an afternoon. It is a great place to relax and people-watch, and there are also a number of restaurants and shops in the area. I would definitely recommend Old Market Square to anyone visiting Winnipeg.
At the Fringe Festival free stage. The act I went for was quite good, stayed for another, also good. Hung around to do some busking. The free stage is for so called "street performers" but I doubt if many of them are buskers. I played for 30 min. and didn't get a single tip, nor did I see anyone tip the stage players. Listen folks, we worked for years to develop our skills, and we offer them up to you for free. If you don't like it, fine, don't tip. If you come out to see us but don't tip, you're not holding up your end of the bargain. If buskers can't earn enough to even buy a meal we will all just disappear, and we will all lose something special. Busking is ancient, older than society itself. All cultures understand the value of free expression of the arts, but it comes with a price. If you don't pay it, the buskers do. Just 1 dollar from each patron is enough to keep the dream alive and make your city something special. I give a dollar to every busker I see. I challenge you to do the same. The reward for you pays out in ways money can't buy. Thanks for your time.
Overall this place is amazing. There are lots of restorants in the area who serve amazing food and great atmosphere. If you are visiting, or need a place to take some one special for a meal, restaurants around this area should be considered. If you are into history, these area provides history buffs alot of your mind to digest. Old buildings around this area with some modern twist gives new live to this neighborhood. Very historical location ties to Winnipeg labor strike in 1919, with its amazing historical buildings with amazing architectures are a landmark to visit. If you want to experience the area, advise you to do just take a walk... focus your eyes up, down, left and right... amazing things you will find. Great location for wedding, engagement and any kind of photo shoots. Have fun
Cool stage. I was there for the free shows of the jazz festival. The festival setup had a nice layout with the permanent stage, there was food trucks off to one side on the streets. The only slightly annoying thing is one side of the open green space has some sort of concrete edge you can sit on, but depending how crowded it gets, it's the only spot to go towards the street and it's a big step. There was water pooling on that concrete part despite no rain in the past day, but that seemed like a common occurrence in the city...
Went down to enjoy an the Fringe festival on a beautiful summer evening. Had a few drinks, watched some performances and listened to some great music. The are was clean and safe and included people from all age groups and cultures. It's really great that Winnipeg puts on this festival every summer and with the weather being so fantastic it was really awesome to be able to sit outside and enjoy.
Love heading over to old market Square during my lunch hour or on the weekend. It's an awesome place to sit and relax and watch the world go by. The old buildings the architecture is truly fascinating and when you pair it with a sandwich from King and Bann and a donut from Bronuts it makes the day perfect.
Great place for mini concerts. Stage is marvelous and I love the fact it is used for us Winnipeger's artist eg. Caravan. I enjoyed seeing out own Winnipeg artists of music perform there, that's to caravan sponsor it for free. Google next event there! Great food all around the area.
Free music regularly great food in the area. Make sure if you're going for lunch to check out the red river college food program. Best lunch for the price you will ever have. Fries are the best I have ever had there

Sad to go. Went to pick up lunch and eat there. However I quickly realized listening to jazz or music with all that’s around was depressing. Use to be a great place for lunch and music.
Was there for the soca reggae festival and also the fringe festival. Convenient location in the middle of downtown winnipeg. And nice seeing everyone out after the covid lockdown
Praça agradável, na primavera e verão, tem apresentação de jazz na quinta-feira e sábado. Leve sua cadeira ou esteira para sentar no chão. Barracas com comidas e bebidas.

Old Market Square is a unique area of Winnipeg. Lots of quaint restaurants and shops on the area and almost always something going on at the Cube Stage.
Maybe its because its been a minute, but it was so nice to be out and about. People walking, lounging and it was clean with available "seating area"
